I have had this watch since 2018. I wear it running, swimming, and mowing the lawn. It's a great no fuss watch and pretty much dominates my wrist every weekend. During the week I wear my Grand Seiko at the office. I like having watches on two ends of the price spectrum from Seiko for a well rounded experience. I highly recommend this STO over all the new ones as I believe this one has the most beautiful dial and is more understated than the new models they have produced.
There is something about the Seiko turtles. They fit in so well despite being huge. Great review, Ivan!Love the books and figurines in the background!!
Thanks for that - yeah the case design is excellent here, and contributes to the fit and comfort. Haha can you actually tell the titles of any of my books??
I have this and love it. The dial is amazing. I've swapped the silicone strap for a steel 5 link engineer style bracelet. It is a fairly big watch, but so comfortable. I do think a watches lug to lug measurement is much more important than the size of a case when it comes to how a watch wears. I think too many people just look at the size. Good review of a great proper dive watch 👍
Love this Turtle as a bloke with 8.5" wrist it is a great size. I have 8 Turtles in my rotation from the new grenade dial to the original 6105. Great reviews always.
When I was Eleven I scored a hand me down OG, I was Jonny Surf King with this thing hanging off My wrist, survived so much abuse would get hammered skateboarding also, in its demise the face was so scratched You couldn't read it without lighting up the lumes remains, loved it.
Enjoyed your review, thanks! I own the Seiko Prospex SRPA21J1 PADI Turtle “Special Edition” Air Diver (Pepsi) with a similar case. Great watch keeps time @ 3-4 s/d. Glad to see Seiko recognizing the importance of our oceans. Stay Safe!
Absolutely love that dial! Never truly been a Turtle fan, something about the proportions doesn't sit right but that dial really is something else all the same!
Yup, I love mine! I never regretted getting one.. Funny, your thumbnail looked like a gold version... That dial is so nice. Bezel is also buttery smooth... and it lines up as well!
I’ve owned my SRPC91 for over a year now, and my also 17cm wrist does prefer the more compact SKX more often. Nevertheless, as a secondary wild card Seiko Diver, I don’t think you can do much better than the STO Turtle. If you love blue gradient dials, then I reckon that this is the next best treat for the eyes behind the James Cameron Deep Sea Sea Dweller.
Thanks for the video review. I got mine from Jomashop for $277. Was nicely surprised at how it looks in person. Turtle #8 for me. Best looking, all lines up nicely, bezel action is, well, Seikoish...and not like my Merkur.
Awesome, needs the Navy Blue rubber though! The chapter ring needs to go and expand the dial making it even more easy to read at a glance. Unreal show, The Five is just sad and this review has Me going Psyeicho for My next Seiko. Beauty Westie, Yes Please.
Great review as always Ivan. I had a close look at one of these in person a couple of months ago. Can't afford it but didn't stop me having a look. Beautiful watch in person and the blue to black transition is awesome. Personally, I think I like the SRPC25K version more but either way I wan't one at some point. It's on my grail list. Thank your friend for allowing you to highlight this watch for us. He's a lucky man. 👌
Thanks for that man - the SRPC25 is a nice looking model, although personally I probably wouldn’t go pass this one for it, this graduated dial is just gorgeous!
I picked this up at Kohl's yesterday for $199 on clearance. Japan Mov't version which I believe is assembled in Malaysia. Would have been nice to find the all Japan version at that price new. Kohl's had nothing else like it in the display case, clearance, or regular price. Didn't come with any paperwork. Not complaining though.

Nice review. I’m a fan of the Seiko Turtle. I really like cushion cases, and this is a very nice one. I’m not a fan of Seiko’s price increases. I have seen some Turtle models ( not the King Turtle, which I think they ruined) go for over $600 US. Not worth it. You can still get the classic black version, SRP077, for under $300.
I like the larger size. BEAUTIFUL blue dial. 13.2mm thick is good I HATE the band. Don't care for a black bezel and I di NOT like the crown at 4 o'clock. As usual. Great review, thumbs up from me. Stay healthy
@@PerthWAtch No sir. I have a chronograph, digital. In my lifetime, I spent, Seekonk ultra thin, $500 (when $500 was 10, 12, 15oo today.) 2 chronic at least @125.00 each. They rust, corrode? The buckle and crown. I feel they have quite good movements for the price. I don't trust Seiko quality anymore. I feel much better buying an Invicta case and bracelet with a Seiko movement. I bet my newest Seiko is 20 years old. Most are beautiful!
i think the jdm released watches come in a more somber box. even casio g-shock's containers are fairly simple compared to those released internationally . having said that i prefer the save the ocean 2 blacked out edition of the turtle. they are ravishing!
The $100 or so price difference has to do with whether the dial says "Made in Japan." I wish they did an STO Mini Turtle for my 17cm wrist, because I do quite like the dial.
I have had a gilt turtle for a couple of years. I love the watch for the most part. My biggest issue is the handset is not properly aligned. When the hour hand crosses the 12 o’clock the minute hand is two minutes behind. I’ve never seen this even on really cheap pieces. Super annoying as I don’t think it merits fixing tbh
Can you comment on the widely held belief that a “Made in Japan” model such as this masterpiece are of higher quality and visibly better finishing? I think many of us watch fans would agree that going to Japan and purchasing a Japanese watch is a rite of passage that we all must strive to fulfill!
There are side by side comparisons between Japan made models and non-Japan models that have been done, and it does seem that the finish is better, at least on some comparisons I have seen. Going to Japan to get a watch would be pretty cool... alas many would have other priorities in life that prevent us doing that!
This model broke my heart. I had one and it had a misaligned chapter ring. I thought I would have my local watchmaker fix it, to my dismay this turned out to be a manufacturer defect that he couldn't repair. I sold the thing on. 💔
@@PerthWAtch two shops basically said the same. The shop on the high street said it would require a service and quoted $250 which is what I paid for the watch.
hello Ivan. thanks for the Seiko "Save the Turtle Watch" review. hopefully something more interesting and controversial watch will be coming soon. :+) Have an awesome Oogway Day, Ivan.
I believe the 4r36 is a re-badged NH35, but nothing wrong with that. Lovely dial, and usual good Seiko finishing. My issue with Seiko watches is they cost more than they should do, and rely on their name. San Martin/Heimdallr/Proxima etc, produce something better for a lot less. For the best part of £400 I would want sapphire, and the bezel looks like the typical wishy washy Seiko action. Love the turtle shape, it's classic and comfortable. Good review as usual
4r35/36 is the designation when it's used in Seiko. When it's used by third parties it's NH35/36. It's the same movement. Yes Seiko rely on their name, but they also do have great original case design and don't have to copy anyone, unlike some of the other brands mentioned there. Their pricing pisses me off, but on the other side, if you can charge more and make more, from the perspective of a company director and shareholders, the argument is that you *should* do just that! What's the big deal about a sticker, when you can just rip it off? At least it's not on the dial eh! ;)
@@PerthWAtch I am a retired senior retailer. I worked for a company who would take merchandise from another retailer to the manufacturer and tell them to make the same thing better and cheaper.
