shrikes will target ships radars so a DEAD load out on a prowler or Corsair can help disable a fleets defenses (plus help drain defenses), not that you had any trouble with those 😂 This video is an excellent demonstration of the insane firepower of a Navy CSG though. That ToT attack by so many harpoons is utterly devastating.
I've found it is possible to jam them, but you need to fly your prawlers low below horizon until they reach their jamming range. Then once harpoons start getting shot at prawlers should pop with ECM already active; and once harpoons are done dive down and boost out of the on max speed. But with the amount of harpoons you can launch that might be unnecessary to risk EW planes at all :D
Just played this one last night, only difference there was a soviet sub I couldn't locate. He sank my Kidd class and almost got my carrier. Little bastard.
Yeah he sunk both of my ticos. Really annoying because when you launch a helicopter the ship will just keep sailing full speed in one direction and you cant stop it until the helicopter finally completes the pre flight checks and takeoff. Torps got free kills for that very reason -.-
So some thing I came across in another players video that you could also employ in this battle is that apparently the TLAMs work as decoys for enemy air defenses. Even though they likely won’t hit something (unless something happens to be in their path) the enemy doesn’t know if they are anti-ship missiles or not, and will fire on them, so the two dozen or however, many TLAMs can help deplete enemy defenses. I haven’t seen this tried, but who knows, you could even fire them in a spread like World War III torpedoes and see if one actually is able to hit something just going straight in. The one downside is that the missiles will fly for 1000 miles so you have to be careful what is behind whatever you’re trying to decay, plus you can only compress time 10 times the entire time they fly that thousand miles
I have sent 3 whole waves of planes that have 4 harppons each. With ECM support. 48 harppon missiles total. All intercepted. No damage to the ememy fleet. And those helicopters cant get rid of them either. Full loadout of F14 4 phenoix, AIM 7 and sidewinders. ALL MISS. WHAT is going on?
I want to play the red side next because it seems very bad for them (although the AI is dumb and can’t use the carrier’s air wing at all which helps a lot)
@ they’re working on it. At the moment it will launch an E-2, and other ships will launch helos, but that’s about it (I suspect they haven’t written the code to let the AI work out how to pick a load out for aircraft)
Love your heli mod dude. I've found launching harpoons without active ecm against soviet SAG is just a waste of harpoons. I always try to have a prowler or 4 jamming the ships when I launch a harpoon attack
In that mission there are two planes on my side that are RTB to the carrier and not landing but going around it flying under water, and not landing on it. The game devs need to fix that problem. Has anybody else had that problem in the game sea power?
@@BrotherMunro Another thing is that they can not be shot down either I chased one around for an hour because the carrier had it in the que to land, and it was headed for the enemy at 30 knots and no way to steer it or slow it down. My other ships couldn't keep up with it.
Can u do a video on new threat upgrade mod for fun?. Its brings the 89 versions of some of the nato ships and there very strong. If u can make avideo like 5v5 for fun. Fit gives vls to some of the ships with slightly updated missles.
Seapower legitimately demonstrates what the USSR Navel forces at their height could do. NATO was legitimately afraid of it. Peep a Russian boat, they are equipped with like 10 ASM tubes, you can call it "spam" all you want, but overwhelming our missile defense systems is exactly what these ships are designed for and to land hopefully 1 or 2 missiles in a single salvo. You multiply that by 10-20 Russian boats and you have a mess on your hands. You wanna best a Soviet Navel fleet you need intelligence and you need to scramble your planes before you ever enter missile range and hit as many boats as you can equipped with multiple ASM tubes and eliminate or severely reduce the ASM threat.
Luckily, the US Navy was in abundance of capable carrier aircraft and utilized their AEW&C aircraft to the max. Ideally, USN ships wouldn’t have to ever be on the offense against surface ships- carrier aircraft just remove the threats for you. If both sides were expecting a fight and started looking for each other on the open sea, a carrier force and a soviet naval fleet- the US carrier force would likely have the spotting and information advantage. Really, the only big advantage that the Soviets had (and arguably still have) is the capability of their anti ship missiles. Which ARE scary. But, a swarm of aircraft with harpoons that can hit you from ANY direction hundreds of miles from the main fleet is terrifying.
@christopherchartier3017 did we have 100+mi range in the 80s? Regardless I know our carrier based planes easily operated outside 100mi ranges and we could easily strike them before they hit us. Seapower? More like airpower 🤣
@@christopherchartier3017 It makes some sense, therefore, why the Soviets had somewhat better (if generally shorter-ranged) air defense SAM systems than NATO (compare an Udaloy and a Spruance, which are rough equivalents in terms of role and capability - the Udaloy has a several rapid-launch VLS systems for a _lot_ of Tor/Kinzhal SAMs which are short-ranged but highly capable, while the Spruance has a single Sea Sparrow system aft which can only fire 8, somewhat less capable but longer ranged missiles and then takes a while to reload) and, at least with the Baltic and Black Sea Fleets, planned to mostly operate within range of shore-based fighter coverage.
I'd like to live in a world where the contact has not faded
“ fortunately the fleet is all on encom, thank goodness for that” while the e2 just launched radiating haha. Great video though mate

There is no overkill, just enough weapons
"There is no overkill. Only 'open fire' and 'reload'"
From "The Seventy Maxims of Maximally Effective Mercenaries"
That moment when you told the Corsair "weapons Free" and they decided to engage with bombs instead of Harpoons...
You can get your jammers in range by bringing them in on the deck and then popping up when in jamming range to 1,000 or 3,000 feet.

Could only imagine the oh sh*t moment the Soviet Radar operator had when seeing all those Harpoons streaming in.
your heli mod is really good , thanks for making it
Glad you like it! 😄

You've got to have them come back at the altitude they came in at, the air is thicker the lower you are, and that decreases range.
Talk about macross missile madness with those P-3's Harpoons!

It's whaling season!
I thought there was going to be a video with stealth17
He was unwell and I have had to postpone recording it

Yeah I have, it seems to happen less often now but aircraft are probably the most wonky and bug prone bits of the game right now

pity AI is so basic not to say dumb. Almost take all of satisfaction of winning the scenario out of it
A simple way to turn the officer's songs off: mute the game
