    I had three mechanics try and locate the leak in my car over the last year and they couldnt find it. Today I fixed it myself after watching this video. It was caked with mud and leaves behind the wheel well. A thousand Thank You's for making this video! No more frustration and worry about mold and rotting floorboards 😊

    ive owned my civic for 11 years and am just now starting to get a water leak on the passenger floor board. i routinely clear out pine needles from the cowl, but i never would have guessed that they were filtering through the grate. much less thought that they were the cause for such a common problem. thanks for the tip!
    one tip for you though, if you start getting a leak through the roof, start by checking the antennae cover plate. i am actually replacing mine with a solid plate that replaces the antennae altogether ... found it on rock auto!!

    Thank you, this is exactly what I needed for my old Honda that leaks onto the passenger side floorboards every winter. Very clear, and thanks for explaining where all the drains go. I had not even thought about the lack of drainage leading to my foggy window problem in the winter.

    This makes so much sense. After a long rain, if i make a tight turn, water floods in from under the floorboards coming from the passenger foot area. With the cold weather coming in, the heat doesn’t just evaporate the moisture anymore so every morning i’m having to defog my windows with a towel lol. Thanks for this video!

    Thanks for your help Dan. My wife's 98 Civic had this problem today. It didn't take much debris plus a lot of rain to cause a flood in the car. I had to use a wet/dry vac to suck out over a gallon of water from the floorboards. I did make one small modification to Honda's design. I added a bit of aluminum flashing to prevent water from dripping into the air intake so that if this happens again, I won't get the water inside the car. This also explains an earlier problem I had with a bad engine computer several years ago. The water ran in and rusted it. I could see the damage, but had no idea where the water came from. Mystery solved.

    • @TweekerDan1984

      @Wailingmongi two additional places that are common to cause leaks are the door weather stripping molds (inspect the weather stripping for damage and clear out any built up debris) another thing I’ve come across is damage/cracks on the frame welds (Check any weld seems in the area where the leak is accruing) these can be difficult to see but I have actual shared videos of sealing these welds. ruclips.net/video/Ya7RpaqLQfs/видео.html

    If this doesn't help you and theres no mud and stuff inside of the wiper area take out the carpet where your pedals are located. You will find a little rubber pipeline that runs through the body of your car on the ground of the car on the left side of your seat (driver side).
    This pipeline has a rubber plug that makes sure no water comes through the hole right where your pedals und fuses are on the left hand corner. The plug was loose in my eg hatchback. If the plug is loose water drains in even if the car's wiper area is clean ;)
    Might help you.
    Tried to explain it best I could I'm german.

      Same problem. Water on the driver side again. This time with the ej1 civic I noticed there's no pipeline.
      I'm going to rip out the carpet to locate the leak. Maybe this time it's down to the debree.
      If not and I can find another reason, I will post it here.

    there are other points to look out for,on the top of the car remove the 2 black strips sometimes below there tends to rust and leak...a next spot is below the strips to the sides of the front wind shield to the top corner where it meets the top strips,that corner also rust and leaks...and the last one that i just discovered on my EG and makes me feel to sell my car is over by the hood hinge's behind the fender,to me it looks like my A pillar has a crack in it and water comes in,i may have to get welded up

      I took it all apart, thing is now the side of the windshield the molding the rubber part that directs water down ripped out. And they aren't sitting right. I worked on it for like 4 hours today. I think I did more harm than good. I talked to a guy about just resealing everything. He said once he takes off the OEM glass it will for sure crack and if I take it off and redo everything, and I see rust I won't put it back on.
      All in all, I think I did more harm than I did good since there are gaps now from the side panels on the windshield. I'm on low income atm and I just hope I didn't make it worse than it was.

    Have the same problem but I've got a question
    I already know that the bottom shelf / layer takes water out with the 2 side holes on the sides; and in my situation i believe they are both fairly clean.
    However according to your tutorial the top "shelf / layer" also takes water out. Then; where does it send water to? I couldn't find the path.

      +Rgx Ohm when you say the top shelf/rail are you referring to underneath the wipers? I don’t remember exactly but I believe the waster runs from the entire center shelf to each side drain. Do you know if any water is coming into your trunk or into the cab from weather leaking into your heater box?

    • @nobody2254

      Hey; thanks for replying.
      Sorry I don't know the names in English for the part I want to describe.
      Lets say right after the windshield you have the 1st rail (Shown in the Video at 1m10) (where you tighten the cowl to) and bellow; the rail where you have the wipers engine and where the water is supposed to be drained in both sides.
      So my questions are:
      - if the rail above (right bellow the windshield) does drain water as well;
      - If the Cowl should actually have a sponge like tape (since mine does not);
      Also: I ended up in some more research (see links bellow); where people recommend to replace some rubbers and the cowl's tape (like mentioned above mine does not have any tape, neither on the side of the windshield nor on the "bottom" side next to the engine compartment / bay).

      Hey there;
      Have been taking care of my "new" Honda (Had a EG3 as well - Now with MB3 Aerodeck) just taped the cowl / grid with new tape. I pray to be able to assemble everything properly. xD
      Anyways I'm assuming the only place it will drain the water will only be on the bottom rail.
      I'm gonna buy some silicon gel to prevent some extra water in the "grid clip holes" on the chassis; then add a plastic cover above the Blower Vent / Air Intake to protect it from future water drop in there and add some. Will try to repply after my holidays.
      Thanks for your Tutorial - Highly Appreciated and Helpfull

    I’m curious you see how passenger side drips water or gets wet but where does it leak into the car on drivers side? Or is there just a channel the water runs down to the drivers side from passenger side of firewall or dash?

    • @TweekerDan1984
      @TweekerDan1984  4 года назад

      Yes there is a long channel that will allow water to flow to the passenger and driver side drains. If the channel gets full of debris the water will build up and usually overflow into the heater area on the passenger side or sometimes the water may overflow dripping water onto the fuse block causing all kinds of finicky issues throughout the car. Please let me know if this did not answer your question and I will try again. 👍

    I think I have the same problem with my 2004 Honda Civic. However I have a hard time removing that plastic cover, because it is different from what you show in the video. Do you have nay advice of how to remove it? Thank you in advance.

    • @TweekerDan1984
      @TweekerDan1984  7 лет назад

      +Daniela Georgieva the cover will still have similar plastic clips and screws. You most likely will have to disconnect your wiper fluid hoses. If you unscrew and create a good opening near the wheel as shown in the video you may be able to spray a garden hose into the drain from the topside without removing the upper valance panel. Spraying the hose down through the drains may help any debris flow out of the drains as long as you create a large enough space for the debris to exit.

    Hey man is this my problem in my 2000 coupe? I park where the front is faced downhill a bit and front floor gets soaked anytime it rains. If I park the opposite way the water will be sitting in the backseat floor. I can’t tell where it’s coming from. I was thinking the top of the car where the gutters are but have no idea.

    • @TweekerDan1984
      @TweekerDan1984  5 лет назад

      These drains could cause water in the front and rear of the car. The other common culprits are the real taillights, trunk weatherstripping and then possibly damaged door weatherstripping. Do you know if you have water in the trunk where the stair tire is located?

The service bulletin is for this similar type of leak for 92-97 civic. "SYMPTOM A water leak into the footwell from under the left or right comer of the dash. PROBABLE CAUSE Not enough sealer on the cowl side of the panel -to-bulkhead seam. CORRECTIVE ACTION Apply sealer to the seams where the side panel joins the bulkhead."

      Are you 100% sure that the front floor boards and trunk have no water? It is common for these two areas to overflow into the rear floorboards. If those two area are dry your weatherstripping around the doors may be loose or failing.

      Hopefully I am able to point you in the right direction. I would check the front floor boards. There is a chance the water is coming in from the front of the car through the drains. If there is debris in the track under the front window or in the those side drain channels it wouldn’t take much for water to back flow into the car while parked facing uphill. You could try parking the car downhill to help with your issue until you have time to address the leak.
