In an interview in Sept 1992 Guitar Player (Joe Gore interviewer of The Cure for the mag) , Robert Smith said that this is one of his top 5 favorites (at that time). He said that he went into a trance after listening to this 20 times in a row.
NEAT! Robert Smith is a god. I've been listening to this album for a looong time and its always been so underrated. Its just pure magic. Falling down supposedly inspired "Mysterious Ways" by U2 to some degree, pretty sure they were fans of this album too It could be the most underrated album of the nineties They also played right after nirvana at reading festival... This band has a ton of history
that's something spacemen 3 did, listen to the same song over and over again, it does put you in a kind of trance. and that concept definitely comes through in their music, very repetitive (in a good way)
@@dirtmcgirt1038 Yeah I know..the US version that came out on RCA in 1991, the same year as the UK version, had two additional tracks on it one was Mesmerize
I disagree. I loved them, and not because they were attractive fellows. You can dislike them, it's your choice. Not sure why you're listening to them on RUclips if you think they suck..lol
Your scarlet hour, is here even now. Holding my mind, with your second sight. Mesmerize. Leaving, what's mine. I'm with you, all the time. Reach me and you'll find. I watch you come alive. Don't stop to follow, dream for tomorrow. Never have shine, have second sight. Mesmerize. Mesmerize. Leaving, what's mine. I'm with you, all the time. Reach me and you'll find. lets all just hope those marshall stacks were deemed 'rooted' long before the filming of this video. this 90s wastage has doomed us all. also, 90s fashion, or lack thereof, needs to return!
Happy memories. DM boots, baggy jeans, love beads, raver tops and bloody good music. When girls didn't feel the need to be tarted up fake dolly birds and you could dance wearing footwear that didn't cripple you. Such a lovely happy time.
+aqua Did I say otherwise :D? Just thought to bring up my two pennies on the subject. I fancied the 80's a lot more to be quite honest. It went a bit downhill when the 90's came, especially with all the incense reeking neo-hippies and baggy youth, which got a few good slaps by me and some of my mates from the gym. Some good times also during that decade, but to be honest, no need to be nostalgic there love. The drugs were better in the 80's (Cocaine only, wouldn't touch that Ecstacy crap), and music was better to be quite honest. To each to their own of course.
Well said Arturo. Couldn't stand the fucking pathetic hippie sods at the time (and still, yuck). Always a bummer at the raves, knocked the fuck out of one guy who in a Rave in Somerset once, shaking his dreads in front of my face. The scumbag was crying afterwards like a proper baby Lmao... Despite the dirty hippies, it was alright I guess, the 90's. I had my share of fun, bit too young to experience the raves in the 80's but heard those times was mental. Big brother used to go then.
Had this on an old CD years ago but had no cover and could never find who done the song. Seen Vintage the other night and was delighted. Great tune, an Indie classic.
I was totally mesmerised the first time I heard this song. It's like being in a trance, closing your eyes and listening to songs like this and "Autosleeper". Still one of my favourite songs
Robert Smith talking about his influences on The Cure album Wish: “One night I must have played 'Mesmerise' 20 times, drinking and turning it louder and louder, putting myself into a trance.”
very 90s classic indy/alternative! how did I miss this? and it has a bit of a "Breeders" sound to it. I guess Robert Smith claims he was listening to this song on loop during the recording of Wish... I don't really hear the influence anywhere. Just my 2 cents... Love the song tho!
This sounds incredibly dated with that cheesy drumloop and wonky digital synths of the era.. you could place it in 1993 easily - saw this song mentioned in the Robert Smith interview mentioned elsewhere in the comments section and was expecting something special

That's super rad. Thanks for sharing.
And Smith channeled that into the Cure album Wish.

Can we just live in the 90s forever?
No. The 80s were far superior
One of the greatest songs, from the kings of shoegaze xoxoxox
Utter crap, but it had it's time and place. '92 was my freshman year in college.
