What a stunning creature Toni Halliday was back then. She looks like a model in this video. And what a great band Curve were in the days of their first few albums. It's really quite criminal that they never caught on.
I remember the first time i heard Curve, John Peel played them on his late night radio show, i was blown away!! Miss John so much, he gave so many artists a stage, I think many owe their music success to him. love Curve, miss John.xx
Fun fact how Curve could've been the one appearing in The Crow movie scene as a female fronted band, as it was originally planned but due to visas problem they couldn't get from Canada (touring) to US. Instead we had also amazing Medicine with Time Baby III. Wouldn't mind then experiencing the alternative reality version of The Crow with Curve in it as well;)
Proud of my 17 yo self who can find so melodic and mesmerising bands like this. Mysterious skin introduced me to Curve. Since then I've been going back and fourth trying to find similar bands and enjoying this one as well.
I watched the Rick Beato interview with Billy Corgan who cited Curve as one of his influences. I forgot this song, but it is great to go back to it after all these years.
Actually, both Garbage & Curve are great bands; Shirley & Toni have the looks & voice; the members of either bands were experienced, Butch Vig & the rest were grunge producers while Dean Garcia was in fucking Eurythmics. It's just that the press back then prefer Garbage and push them more into the limelight and that Shirley Manson has more charisma, despite Toni has an equally great talent. The 90's music press were fucking vicious back then. It's good to know that the newer generations are discovering Curve through the Internet. Who knows, maybe they might be inspired to start their own Curve-influenced bands?
I'm surprised this band went completely under my radar, especially during that late '80s to mid '90s kind of period when I was heavily into female vocalists like Heart Throbs, Lush, Cocteau Twins, Dubstar, Echobelly, Dead Can Dance, Toys Went Berserk and so many others. Credit to Rick Beato for the heads up on this band.
You've good taste. I only realised that every band I loved had a female vocalist about 15 years ago - Broadcast, Stereolab, MBV, Curve, Lush, Cocteaus etc. Since then it's bee n quite easy to pre-filter the bands I probably won't like out. I'd much prefer Bananarama to Oasis nowadays.
@ManoNegraCG they probably went under your radar as pretty much all their songs sounded the same - check out the footage of their appearance at Glastonbury festival in 1992 - it's all one flipping song for an hour ! Toni Halliday is a beautiful woman but that's another issue.
@@revol148 Totally agree. I think I got this song on a single disc they were handing out in front of a concert for The Cure in 1992. I loved this song - really outstanding - but was the rest was...meh.
@@bobbab5759what Cure concert was that then - I guess in 1992 it must have been on their Wish tour (I flipping love that album) ? I saw them on that tour but Curve weren't supporting them !?
A nice little story - I saw Curve in Dublin in the early 1990s. Bono and The Edge were at the gig. I ran after Edge and got my ticket signed, then back to McGonagles to meet the band and got all my EPs signed. I gave Toni a t-shirt of my band Honey Ryder, which she asked me to sign. There was nowhere for me to lean, so she said: "Here - lean on me!" and presented her thigh! She invited us back to the hotel and my G/F at the time said we had to get up early in the morning. Obviously in hindsight, I should've said: "You mean YOU do!"
Great story. I got my three EPs signed in Comet earlier that afternoon. The gig was reviewed in NME or Melody Maker or both. It was 28 November 1991. Bought a cool t-shirt at McGonagles but the neck expanded a few weeks later.
Toni Halliday is beautiful and a perfect voice for this soundtrack Much loved in the early 90's but catch the first three eps if you want to treat yourself to some awesome music Dean Garcia on guitars and Moulder on production, it's prestige and multi-layered with Toni plastered over it Awesome - thanks for posting
Vaguely remember this track, back in the day there were so many Indie artist's jostling for attention, but listening now it stands out as a classic. I suspect the video is referencing a siren/mermaid vibe. Cool.
Always remember coming home from skool I got cable connected and sunshine was shining and this song was on I was in the floor transfixed my mum could see this she still can..❤️
Still sounds as fresh today (23/10/15) as it did when it was released. Makes todays music sound hollow and really rather pointless......doppleganger is one AWESOME album!!! Got it on vinyl. Treasured possession.
I can't understate how much this band blew my mind- coming from a hardcore punk background, these guyz totally turned me on-nto drum machines/sampling and noise effects as pure sound power- ...and there aren't many, if any, equivilent acts out there with these * V O C A L S *- just freakin stunning. I rate Curve on a par with Silverfish- pretty well same era, same country, different niches i guess, but both just fuckin unbelievably cranking, and also both inconcievably underated.
I think Doppelganger is still one of the greatest overlooked albums of the early 90s..
totally agree
Totally agree , dreamy floating ,liquid bass ,great vocals ,great album indeed
So true..
Overlooked maybe, awesome definitely! 😉
It has influenced many bands across the world.
that liquid bass line really pulls this song over the top
That voice, those guitars. Can't get enough.
She's so beautiful that I couldn't blink my eyes during the entire video.
Same feeling here.
You should have tried a gig when they first started,Trent Uni,Big Eyes and ears totally immersed Amazing
That's make up. Girls at my school looked like that and they smelled, or looked like they did.
@@duncefunce1513we all smell, you must be gay
2020 and the mighty Curve still sound timeless and epic.
2023 allmost :) listen it today ❤️
that's when i discovered them! totally unforgettable

Toni Halliday ma personal ❤
2024 is the year I run up the views on this gem. This is everything

Hearing suburban relapse on my radio in my bedroom changed my life.
John was a legend, the amount of new artist he got started is incredible.
3:18 my favorite part. Her big smile ❤
Yes , priceless
In in love with the "heyy, heyyyy, heyyyyy" parts
I don’t think anyone in any music video has ever looked as gorgeous as Toni does here.
Can't tell you how much I love Curve, still sound fucking superb.

Kate Beckinsale´s doppelgänger... This band is amazing, guitars, atmospheres, her voice... and Toni...my godness or goddess
Karloff Winkler: Kate wishes.... However... I bet Kate was a fan, hmmmm????? Cool!!! :)
You better look twice. This elf is unbeatable.
I’m in love with her voice, it’s mesmerizing
couldnt said it better
fragile and raw, perfect rockvoice. not to mention she was and still a daang hot woman
I feel that there world be no 'Garbage' if it wasn't for Curve. Garbage took Curve as inspiration and made it into pop.
What a band! What a woman! Phenom!
Proud of my 17 yo self who can find so melodic and mesmerising bands like this. Mysterious skin introduced me to Curve. Since then I've been going back and fourth trying to find similar bands and enjoying this one as well.
try other contemporaneous and similar bands to them such as Garbage(who borrowed a lot), the sundays, primitves, Adorable, Ride, Chapterhouse, Lush

Your 17 year old self is a living legend

この曲好き!😊
I saw them live. A great performance. Wish I could see them again.
Incredibly timeless music...
before republica and garbage there was CURVE....and curve were the amazing ones.
And before Curve there was My Bloody Valentine! 😉
This song has been stuck in my head all day
This is one of the bands of the 90s ❤
My two greatest musical loves: Curve and Gary Numan. Legends!
"Garbage" should donate all their royalties to these guys!

cuz looks are important to make good shoegazer music.
your not the first to have that thought, oof
Absolute Banger of a track and what a Goddess..Omg
One of the best basslines
ye
Absolutely. Ever listened to Medicine? They're fucking awesome, but this song was their cue, especially for their earlier stuff.
This song is so captivating and ethereal ... I love it so much, the girl is beautiful!
This just gets better with each play - I miss them
Beautiful Toni Halliday with that haunting voice... it's a fucking crime this only has 32k views :(
Such a great band. When i hear this after all these years i fall right back in love with them.
best Curve song, Toni Halliday beautiful.
If Grunge was into plaid, Shoegaze seemed to have had a thing for horizontal stripes.
Yep. That's why I wear baggy Stripey jumpers all the time. It's the Shoegaze fashion dude
Never heard this before. Outstanding.
I am still really in love with this song. And the album - I have not known anything this awesome since .....
Addicted song!! I just loved them! The singer is awesome!
absolutely love this band, constantly replacing worn out CDs
The intensity of this song literally gets me high

It's a shame they lost all the driving bass and sexy guitars and fell in with regular dance music because this shit is timeless.

Sadly no - still kicking myself!
...and on his gravestone you could read "The dude who could have fucked Toni...but he did not"...What a sad story! :-P
HAHAHA

i miss curve...one of the best bands of their time...!
When that drop comes in, man the sound is so good!
3:18...I'm melting...
Oof. Such epic timelessness
Totally sublime..💖💖💖, I remember being blown away at the time.
Curve we're so good and underrated they were class Alan Collins
Curve would've been perfect to open for U2's ZOO TV tour. Their sound and U2's then sound merge nicely.
Utterly utterly utterly utterly utterly utterly utterly utterly utterly utterly utterly... STUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That music video does look like it was released in 2006, although this video was actually released in 1992, way ahead of its time.
Yes video is amazing
What a stunning lady!
First heard this on Gary Crowley’s weekend afternoon show on BBC Greater London Radio. Bought
the CD single on the Monday!
excelente tema.. no hay ningun dia que deje de escucharlo
Slip back in time whenever I hear this
Curve/Siouxsie and the Banshees always.... Great song and video! ♥
How on Earth could it be possible that I'd forgotten Toni Halliday? She was exquisite.

She's mesmorisingly beautiful, and also has a dark edginess to her which is very unique!

I saw them live with Debbie Smith on guitar. What a legend! Great gig.
When alternative rock meant something. What a classic band with an incredible sound.
I love grunge! It's my favourite genre of music 👌
Not really grunge...some similarities
This band is magic a unique !!! Please come back guys !! make a remastered versions of this album-
Agreed, a fucking genius record that never hit the heights it deserved. I was lucky enough to see it toured as well 👍👍
