I haven't seen this video since the spring/summer of 1991 on 120 minutes. Second single after "Pearl" from their "Whirlpool" LP, still have the same CD that I bought back then... still miss being 21.
The best reaction I have ever witnessed was at a club in Leister Square circa 2000. I was crashung at my mates place (We've known each other from the age of four), He was a DJ at the time, DJ Chris Rice- the English one , not the Aussie. He pulled up the Chapterhouse album and said he was going to play their most famous single. Then he said he had to go to the bog and left me in charge. I Played this TUNE and the previously empty dance floor filled up and Chris asked me, "What was the name of that song?" It was an Indie club. And we had been snorting the ol' Marching Dust and playing with Mary Jane. And we had a tub full off Bud in ice water in the DJ booth, it was part of Chris's payment. AHH HAPPY DAZE!
So I search up “underground rock 2021” and I get a song from 30 years ago, which itself is a poor man’s imitation of the popular rock music of 50 years ago. Wow, thanks algorithm gods!
Best band in the world, 95% of their songs are all well composed, original and almost no fillers on their only 2 albums, all good. I'm sorry but the Smiths had a lot of fillers on their albums even tho they were great too...
Hard disagree, not smiths every song may have been amazing but I feel like the band always brought something of value to the table on really all their works, and I'll gladly die on this hill.
This is exactly what I imagined this songs music video would be
I'm a fan of another shoegaze band called "Lush", and the moment I saw this video, I had a strong feeling it would be shoegaze as well. Called it!
This is Beatles-like psychedelic music, I love it.
They did a cover of the Beatles "Rain" as a B-Side on one of their singles, in fact. Or on an E.P.? It's out there somewhere.
This band deserves much more recognition
Wish I knew more people who would dig this song as much as I do :/

This song is so cool and otherworldly, gives me the chills and makes me feel like I'm floating at the same time.
That's because you are.
Shoegaze is maybe my favorite music genre ever! If you like Chapterhouse, I highly recommend "Nothing Natural" by Lush and My Bloody Valentine.
lol label tried to commercialize boring shoegaze, good luck with that
I saw them in 1989 in Barcelona, and still is the best gigs I ever seen. And I have been in thousands... Love them.
Nothing nowadays in music feels or looks as cool as this✨👌🏽
and two years on, today's music is from another fuckin' planet compared to this piece of genius.

MY BLOODY TAMPON
Oops, wrong thread.
Everyone back then had at least one oversized striped t-shirt. I think it was an international law for every person under 30.
I was so happy to see cats dressed like us in jeans and tees rather than the poser hair bands' ridiculous neon coloured Lycra and Spandex.
And a floppy-fringe haircut, parted in the middle. 😅
My God, they're all so beautiful.
Hearing this for the first time. It's perfect.
I think I have found a new (old) band to love. Followed this from RIDE
"Followed this from RIDE"

Chapterhouse is way better than RIDE in many ways.
@@cesaru3619 On record maybe...Chapterhouse couldn't really play their songs the same way live, Ride were even more intense than their records :)

This song inspired "Mysterious Ways" by U2. The band was listening to a lot of shoegaze and Manchester bands in the early 90s

I think I'm the same age as these guys, I used to love them. God they look like babies in this video. However, fab music, still love it !
I love songs with heavy chaotic outros like that
beautiful boys. gentle 90’s.
Saw these nutters in Bradford Uni, 91. Blew my mind to say the least - they did the sonic noise total MBV wipe-out thing at the end.
Thank you Chapterhouse.
Wish the mood back we had that days. 💐🥰
lyrics
Falling down
Leads me where I wanna go
Higher now
Leave me I don't wanna know
Falling down, I'm on my own now
Don't tell me it's time to go
Time to reach out to the side
Time to take me for a ride
Suffocate me gently baby
Drown me in your velvet snow
Falling down
Lead me to a sacred low
Higher now
Tell me what I wanna know
Soft and blushing pale in secrets
Breathe on me those words we love
Silent joy I'm thinking of
Take me to a world above
Falling down I'm on my own now
Sinking in a reeling girl
