Everyone's ignoring the biggest change in this game: they centered all of the text! (It was left justified before.)
there is a actaull piklopedia in the deluxe version
@Chandon G Really I didn’t notice..
@Chandon G I only did 2 then 3 and soon deluxe..i hope ultra spicy will maybe make the tripping thing more common as it said it’s a very hard mode so the game should work against you.
@Chandon G they said that in the vid
@Chandon G they said that hey noticed the Pikmin are keeping up with them more often
Having the WiiU version my plan was to pass on this release. That is until I played thru the demo with my son. The couch coop is a dream come true so I’ll be double dipping. Sorry wallet.
So awesome dude ! Hope you have some great gaming moments with your son
@@Bigpimping-by6yj for sure. Playing thru Luigis Mansion 3 together was so fun and now he’s getting into smash because of Minecraft dlc. It’s been good times on that front.
@@Franklinplatt64 the more people who buy the game, the more likely Nintendo will put pikmin 4 higher on there priority list
I double dipped too. Lol!
11:08 “When it could’ve been an amazing online experience.”
How many times has that been said about a Nintendo game?
Doubt it actually would be good, considering Nintendo's online...
@@Alex_1A
It would probably be food
@@Alex_1A I think that online with pikmin is especially difficult for nintendo due to the 100 pikmin running around. I am not saying it cannot be done (There's plenty of games that do it just fine) but Nintendo seems to just no get good online stuff.
I mean if I'm being honest I dont think online when I think of pikmin. Couch co-op and competitive yes but not online
Everytime Lol
Only reason I’m not getting this right now is because I’m swamped with tons of unfinished and yet-to-play games on my Switch. But this is definitely on my eventual to get list.
Same and I have the original
This should be your priority, trust me!
Same. I’ll wait til christmas
Cool dude, well did you at least play the demo
Same. I bought Luigi's Mansion 3 a year ago and haven't played it!
You didn't mention one of the coolest features: THE PIKLOPEDIA IS BACK BABY! With entries and takes by each astronaut!
Fine, it's not THAT big a deal, but it was one of my favorite features of 2 and sadly missing in the original version of 3. So the fact that it's back and better than ever is a delight.
I’m just super sad it isn’t a legit “live” feed of the the enemies for you to mess with a tiny bit. It’s all just footage... :\
The piklopedia is easily the best part of pikmin 3 deluxe. If there was no piklopedia then I would 100% skip. Current plan is to probably pick it up once the price drops.
It is a big deal
That Toy Story 2 cutaway was great. 🤣
Unfortunately no
Where?
@@blacknoir1024 4:20
Fortunately yes
@@EWOODJ that's the sad thing tho. Andre's attempts at humor...theyre...theyre getting stale!
"The main problem of the gyro controls is the near constant recalibration." THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I was having so much trouble with the gyro mechanics in the demo. Hopefully Nintendo can fix the kinks of this mechanic because I love playing Pikmin with the Wii remote and Nunchuk than the gamecube controller.
the gyro thing happens with every switch game so I would assume thats a hardware thing
Yeah I understand what you mean. I am biased, and I never played the wii versions, but my experience with wii pointing controls has been a struggle on other games because it would lose connection often. Like on mario Galaxy and I was trying to pick up starbjts and couldn't😅.
Hopefully things are patched, and made a little smoother
@@Ceaugo true, but hopefullybit is closer to after launch if anything
Wii controls were perfect but I think the new targeting system is the way to go given how weird the gyro is now.
To be honest mario galaxy had the same issue and i got used to it
I always just used the gamepad when i played the original so I’m fine using a pro controller
I used the Gamepad with touch screen. It was great
The game bad was better to to use. I loved using the map.
I've always loved the gamecube controls so it doesn't bother me using the normal switch controls. I just wish the swarming attack returned because it was my favorite mechanic
Me too
NOT THE TOY STORY REFERENCE 😭😭 I love you André
I dont always comment in the positive. but this is a great review. Objective. And showing and telling the pros and cons. This seems the right length for a review as well. Keep it up guys
It needs to sale well. If not, Pikmin 4 will not have the priority it deserve.
I think that if this doesn't sell well, Pikmin 4 might never come out...
@@BlueRyse
That’s a very fair assumption
Realistically, if it sells over 1 million copies it should be at least on Nintendo's radar since there are only 30-40 other switch games that have sold that most with the majority of course being major titles like Splatoon 2 and animal crossing New horizons. 1 million would put it not far under the same sales as the xenoblade games which should be good enough for Nintendo to consider it a success. Keep in mind Nintendo aren't looking for it to sell 6-7 million copies in fact I doubt they're expecting it to go far past 1 million which is why even this low a target needs to be met. Assuming it sells over 1 million I'd say pikmin 4 is on the table and if it were to absolutely blow up and get the 5 million+ sales nobody is expecting then it will be very high on Nintendo's radar
Tldr It really just needs to hit the 1 million mark for pikmin 4 to be on the table
The trailer surprisingly got over a million views, and the switch is a far more successful console. This will definitely outsell the wiiu version.
@Chandon G 5.68 million? A Pikmin game selling as much as a 2D zelda game? Do you even know how much do pikmin games sell? they barely manage to hit the 1.5M bar.
If this entry manages to sell 2millions, it should be fair enough for a Pikmin 4.
I feel the mass whistle from the ship kinda defeats the purpose of Pikmin being lost at sunset
I just chose to not use it in the demo. I think it’s a great feature for people that need it, but Pikmin veterans can just choose not to use it.
Yeah, so does the giant whistle. It kills the purpose of having to be careful, just like the whistle safety mechanics. It feels like those changes were made by the programmers and Miyamoto wasn't even consulted on the changes. I mean, they kill his vision of the series a good bit.
@@magicowlofbacon9416 honestly I feel like that’s definitely a Miyamoto thing to do so idk
@@rhettmitchell Well, this series is basically his favorite series of all time, and he stated outright that world-building was first over gameplay when asked why he removed lore-breaking conveniences from Pikmin 1.
They still have to get home, its not an insta warp home.
Too bad they didn't make it 1080p. Even Miyamoto said that this is the one Nintendo game that truly benefits from higher resolutions.
Maybe they update it later to run in 1080p or at least run 720p in handheld mode and not 540
No one ever mentions the Stylus-Only controls that were patched into the WiiU version. They felt amazing!
Yes! Stylus-Only was my favorite way to play. I'm going to miss it😔
Yes! Thank you!! lol
It did, I used it all of the time but recently started playing with the Wii U pro controller
Gamexplain: Complains about pikmin not being smart and treats it as a game issue.
Me: Isn't that how pikmin act tho? It's their personality, not a glitch or misprogram.
This is litterally every pikmin/youtube gamer. Pikmin does things in a deliberatly specific way, player complains when they want it to do something its not going to do, gets mad when it does something they didn't want because they didn't bother to understand how the ai operates, calls it a flaw or bad programming because it doesnt follow their made up logic.
Didn't play the previous games, thought I wouldn't like it when I first heard about Pikmin. Downloaded the demo solely because I thought they looked super cute and I wanted to see it's all about. And I loved it right away. Got the game on release date and oh my god. So much fun. Definitely in my top best buys ever.
People that never played pikmin (like me), you should REALLY play the free demo, it's a really good example of what the game will be and it's a huge demo too!
I agree. They give you the entire first level/boss to play and it's huge. Took me around 1 & 1/2 to 2 hours to beat the level/demo. Man the game is fun. Im definitely picking up the retail version after playing the excellent demo.
I can't wait to play this. This will be my first Pikmin game.
I hope you end up liking it, if you do i heavily recommend trying the first two games, you can play pikmin 3 without them but they all have their own things going on, pikmin one is kinda like a acarde game, seeing how fast and efficiently you can beat it and can be beat in one sitting but going for the fastest path possible is a blast, pikmin 2 is my favorite in the series just due to the collection stuff and the caves being the best parts of the franchise while being challenging, though if you play pikmin 2 your going to want to go in with 100% completion in mind, and finally pikmin 3 has more of a story approach while trying to mix in the arcadey stuff from pikmin one, honestly the only downside to pikmin 3 is its kinda short and easy though its a great introduction to the series other than that theyre all great games
Have fun with it, ik I certainly did. It was one of my favorite games on the wii u
@@soundabyss Those first two games could be so brutal and unforgiving at times lol.
@@bk7064 honestly i just recently played pikmin 1 for the first time after sucking ass at it when i was like 10, and honestly pikmin one isnt bad at all with difficulty (except the final boss anyways, went in with about 600 total pikmin, left with 200 and beat the stage in one day with 4 seconds left on the clock, it was honestly neat going into that stage completely blind after all these years), and so far going with 100% in pikmin 2 hasnt been so bad either, sure theres some hard parts but its never felt like itd be too hard you know what i mean, like its always manageable.
I'm extremely excited to see Super-Spicy mode Co-op Speedruns. That's gonna be crazy!! I can't afford the game rn (thanks, november releases x100) but I'll be certain to grab it by the end of the year. I NEED more Pikmin!!
Perfect use of that Toy Story clip!
4:21 I loved this reference in the review
im sorry but the way they run around & follow you is so cute 😭😭 they look so funny
I HATE the new big whistle! I end up taking Pikmin that I don’t want way more frequently now!
Sameeeee, I like how when you whistle it doesn’t bring pikmin carrying stuff come to you. But thst big whistle just isn’t necessary man. I hope it’s an option and that they dont force it upon us but it’s looking like they are.
Will this lead to a discussion with a certain fuzzy and blue monster?
@@MrHomelessHobos Since when?
I can't tell if this is an r/woooosh moment or not...

The intro is the best part of this review
I hope the ultra spicy mode is more than just a Pikmin cap.
I think it also makes fruit give you half as much juice
@@jes3788 that's hardly a threat when you're going for 100% anyway.
Honestly I expected more n
@@dylanshadowstar9779 yeah I agree, kind of disappointing. I always had a shit ton of food on wii u so this won't make a big difference
@@jes3788 also annoying that the mode still has the easier things such as a huge whistle, and the callback feature etc. Less Pikmin just sounds lots tedious than hard plus we could already limit ourselves easily. Not like people havent been doing 50 max pikmin runs since the first game.
slightly stronger enemies and no nectar/less bombs that were added in the normal modes. Oh and hazards like fire and drowning kill much faster.
The thing that really bothers me about the side-story mode is how they just used the SPERO's as a collection point. It would have felt more... proper I guess to have modeled the Hocotate Ship for the Olimar's assignment missions (or at least the exploration pod), and that blue ship we saw at the start of Olimar's comeback for those missions.
7:50 there is also the fact that fruit juice has been cut in half. Meaning you only have about 50 days or so and you need to gather more fruit for one portion.
I love that you put the Toy Story 2 reference in this review, Andre. You win the internet for doing so!
12:22 for the score
That intro is so freakin good!
My absolute favorite Wii U game. Gonna miss having the persistent map that the GamePad offered but portability is a worthwhile trade.
Nobody seems to meantion this but in ultra spicy mode pikmin drown and burn quicker.
In 3 second they are gone
The Ultra-Spicy Mode has a surprising number of small changes that do make it noticibly more difficult than normal. It's still not as difficult as Pikmin 1 or 2, but it's a fun challenge nonetheless.
Not only did I not have this on Wii U, but also deciding to wait on a PS5 means this is a no brainer to buy this for my switch, I have waited for a pikmin on the switch since launch day
This’ll be my first Pikmin game, so I can’t wait to check it out once it drops this Friday!
Playing through this just before pikmin 4 comes out. It's such a gorgeous game
To add to the switching between pikmin controls you can cycle between left or right by using both R and L buttons, you don't have to cycle just one direction.
I love that there is a gyro control but it sucks not to have a reset gyro button, they could use the down arrow button
This review is absolutely incredible! GameXplain makes the best reviews of all time! ❤️❤️❤️
I may be forgetting, but weren't the Wii Remote controls facilitated by Wii Motion Plus? That would mean that much like the Switch Pro Controller, the Wii Remote used motion controls to work the pointer, not the the IR sensor, which would mean it also required recalibrating every now and then. It's been a while since I've played Pikmin 3 on Wii U, but I believe this was also a similar control design as on Switch now.
It would automatically recalibrate by using the sensor bar to orient itself and using the gyroscope to cover the pointer when it couldn't see it. With both those two things it basically meant you never had to recalibrate as all you were really doing was pointing and you could still use original wii remotes without motionplus in Pikmin 3 on Wii U as far as I could remember.
I love pikmin! It’s just AWESOME!
Its hard to believe this game is already over 7 years old.
so how do u know where uve explored if whole map is visible
Imagine if Gameexplain also had reviews for NMH1&2 uploaded today as well
I had no problems with the Wii U gamepad setup. The charging dock that came with the Wii U was perfect for setting it up right next to my gaming space. But it's cool it's nice to play on Switch.
I still can't get over that C-Stick swarm function missing.
I already beat the wii u version so I dont know if I want to get the switch version
We've played through the entire story in 2 player and it adds so much to the experience. The quality of life stuff is great too.
7:03 nah, they’re smarter in 3 than the original. I had a group of reds in pikmin 1 take out fiery blow hogs and they decided to take a swim
I never really had the proper chance to enjoy Pikmin 3 on the Wii U as sharing the TV is a pain in the @$$. I really hate Wii U games that have you switching between the gamepad and the tv: it's the same thing Kirby and the Rainbow Curse suffered from. So I really can't wait to pick up this game, and I enjoyed playing the demo of it on my channel.
I love how you talk
How does it feel to play Pikmin 3 deluxe with a gamecube controller?
Does the demo also render in 720p?
I'm just glad we get to play as Olimar, even if it's just side content.
I played the entire game in handheld and still noticed that at the start of most levels and when speeding up the juicing animation there was still some fairly obvious frame dropping
Weird that they added nails you can lock on in the story mode. They weren’t there in the original.
Still not showing the epilogue I see...
I’m fine with a pro controller because pointing is a nightmare for me
I’m definitely considering getting this port I already have the Wii U version but being able to play Pikmin 3 on the go is definitely a selling point for me.
I loved playing the mission mode stages so much on the Wii U that I remember buying the DLC pack for the additional ones. I thought they’d be included with this new re-release but I have the game now and don’t see them? :( I was looking forward to the Christmas-themed level along with the others but it looks like they aren’t included..
I really hope they add online to bingo battle in an update or something, even if it’s just switch friends. They could make a fair amount of switch online memberships that way, so it would probably help profits too.
Love the Game, total nostalgia trip.
Disappointed there was no improvement to the graphics - it looks better handheld, but somehow looks grainy on my 1080p HDTV.
Nintendo dropped the ball there, but the bonus gameplay content is stellar, even when I'm just happy I get to play Pikmin again.
I hope ultra spicy mode adds some real challenge, like harder enemies across the maps. There was only one one Bulbear in the original Pikmin 3, they should have much more in ultra spicy mode
I'll probably stick with the original release for pointer controls, but I'll probably buy this one too for co-op and to support the series. :)
Also, am I the only one who really wasn't bothered by the original map? It always worked fine for me, I just set the gamepad next to me while I played.
12:15 A *bloody* fantastic co-op
...?
To be fair, with the assist mode... That sounds super nice to me, as someone who Pikmin 3 was my first Pikmin and I just didn't have a grasp of what was best to do and such. Pikmin 3 looks gorgeous, and I love getting engrossed in the environment, but when you first play there isn't that visual clarity of where you're meant to go, and what's msot important (other than parts). So, it's nice that when I was just fucking lost, I wouldn't waste a couple minutes figuring out where the fuck I needed to go occasionally
The gamepad touch was the best control mode, I just want to know if they improved it on switch
Wow, to me this game still looks amazing.
Yeah, I noticed that the gyro wasn't too great in the demo. I think the problem is that it struggles staying in place when using the lock-on features. I never really had that problem with games like Captain Toad or Okami.
That said, I'm definitely getting this game. I love Pikmin too much to not get it
Along with Zelda, Metroid, Kid Icarus, and ARMS, Pikmin is one of my most favorite Nintendo IPs, and I hope everyone that didn’t own a wii u gets this game, and hopefully we can get a Pikmin 4 someday
Dear god I hope pikmin 4 is made with coop as a main focus. I bet barely 1% of people who play pikmin live with someone else who also loves pikmin
Hi. Got two little questions... (I’ve never played Pikmim) (1) Is the story of this fresh version dependent on previous releases? Should I start fresh with this without any prior knowledge of this series?
(2) If I play alone (no co-op), will this still max my game play experience? Or is this game meant to be played with a local friend?
Many thanks for your feedback :)
Hey Darren! Rest assured you won't really be missing anything essential by starting with Pikmin 3.
As for co-op, it's certainly not essential. I just had a bit more fun that way :)
@@GameXplain Thanks! Alright I just subscribed, as you care to reply me :)
Gyro controls are nice, but im glad they're optional
Pikmin 3: The Unfortunately Timed Review Embargo Edition
Having the pikmin no longer lag behind you seems like a bit much, honestly. In many ways, it makes getting flower pikmin less important. When playing the original version, your speed through the level was dictated by how fast your pikmin were, since you didn't want to get separated and risk them getting eaten. Not to mention how much easier it is to deal with certain enemies, like the wollywogs. Not sure how I feel about this one.
I really agree with this one. Some "positives" he mentions seem like more of a dumb down rather than quality of life upgrade.Pikmin speed was vital to the series, and the super whistle from the ship is a dumb mechanic in my opinion. Defeats the purpose of keeping track of your pikmin
They should have a made a trilogy remaster. I would have brought that 💯
Is this the guys real voice or does he put it on?
I’m buying this with a Christmas game stop gift card since I loved the demo. I am also getting breath of the wild for a gift from someone so these two games will give me a lot to do, lol.
And because of the new captain switch mechanic makes hacked levels with 4 captains messed up! :(
I have the original and I’ve played through it countless times but I’m definitely buying again and def gonna play through it with friends
This is my first time playing a Pokémon and I absolutely see the hype. This game is fantastic
My god this game looks good , those bosses are amazing
Holy Crap it's been seven years since the original!
The Pikmin retrieval whistle seems really confusing. Going out to get Pikmin you missed is a pretty big part of Pikmin and I think it's not a good decision to remove it. It's really disappointing that Bingo Battle and co-op don't have online. I'm super excited for the Piklopedia though.
Well i respect that it gives a 'do you really want to do this' prompt so you know it's not how the game was meant to be played.
You can choose not to use it...
@@wsemenske I can choose not to use it, but a new player wouldn't really have any reservations about it. I think for people who use it it removes meaningful and memorable challenge from the game which I think is a shame. I'm not against it being in necessarily, it's generally good for games to have more options, but including it as just a basic part of your toolset seems unfortunate. I'd probably lock it to easier difficulties, or maybe as a toggle when starting a file.
I think its fine for new players who were always turned off by the the stress Pikmin can cause (which has been a deterrent for people since the beginning). Plus, sometimes it can just be frustrating when there is one Pikmin missing but is too small to see on the map. I probably won’t use it, but I appreciate the option. And I like how the Pikmin still have to run back to base, so it isn’t an instant win. They can still get attacked on their way back or not make it in time.
@@ApolloDawn85 I wasn't aware of the fact that they had to run back. While I still kind of wish (For my admittedly super silly reason) that it were a game file start option rather than something always there that's a lot more reasonable to me than how it worked in my head because I imagined they'd just be teleported back to the onion.
Please tell me the presedent is playable
This was a very good review. Helped me see that, as a pikmin veteran, I probably shouldn't buy this. Not at full price, anyway. Thank you, GameXplain!
0:39 I love the 69 blue Pikmin
The mclassic is the best addition I could've gotten for the switch, its AA fixes almost all jagged edges switch games suffer from
has no one else said anything about how this being online, with nintendo online would be a tad bit choppy
I really want this version for the co op, and just to have another great game for my collection, but I need my PS5 and Spiderman first. Maybe next year.
Great game to play while waiting for the ps5 to come out perfect timing.
As soon as I heard I could finally play this game without the annoyance of the game pad I pre-ordered day one, only thing that I really hated about the original game was all of the stuff assigned to the pad that frankly really didn't need to be. (This version being case and point on that).
Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Xenoblade Chronicles, now Pikmin 3; a lot of WiiU big hitters still coming the Switch. Can only hope Xenoblade Chronicles X gets a definitive edition now.
Andre, online won’t work. Have you played Mario Maker 2 online?
Wish they could port the first 2 pikmon games also
So hyped!! Can’t wait to relive one of the best WiiU titles!!
okey so there is the classic controlls like in pikmin 1 and 2 that is nice since both my left joyocns of my controller have drifitng issues beyond my repair, sooooooo i am left whit my very dope and awsoem third party controller and portabel only joycons that have no drifting issues as they are made diffrently, however both lack the function of gyrocontrol, altho mayby the portabel only one do they are just not usebel whitout energy from the switch itself.
I'll probably get it when it's on sale
mClassic (or similar hardware scaler) users: Since the game only uses 720p anyways, set the Switch's TV output to 720p so the mClassic does proper upscaling. If you don't, the Switch will actually send a 1080p signal to the mClassic, and you won't get the full benefit of the mClassic's upscaler. This game (and similar games that top off at 720p) really shines when you do so :).
