Ear theory: Yellows' ears are to deal with the excess heat from conducting electricity, and help with balance while climbing large heights and narrow platforms. Of course they also help with listening for predators whenever they're out of reach from the rest of the Pikmin horde or whistle leader. As for Game 1, what if their ears made them better bomb carriers, since they could detect the hissing of chemical reactions, and could tell when they were about to blow off?

A theory I’ve seen that I like is that the pikmin, candypod bud, and onion are all the same species at different stages of development The theory goes that onions produce pikmin seeds. If those seeds are disturbed, they become pikmin and served the role of find food for reproduction. If a seed goes undisturbed for a very long time, though, it will grow into a candypop bud, which serve the role of allowing pikmin to adapt and evolve to the environment. If a candypop bud is undisturbed for long enough, it develops into an onion in pikmin 1/2, which serve the role of reproduction in the species. Let an onion go undisturbed long enough, and it sprout a vine that will bear the more advanced onion in pikmin 3. The idea for this theory comes from data logs in pikmin 1 and 2 where olimar suggests candypop buds might be the “next stage in pikmin evolution” and or a type of pikmin
I've always believed this. It just makes too much sense. But it also means that an Onion had to have flown underground at some time, and planted seeds, because that is where all candypops are in 2. It makes me wonder how Pikmin fare naturally. They always seem to be on the brink of extinction at the beginning of each game, but then the credits of the games show them having much larger numbers and taking over the environment.
@@mustacheman529 There are those snatch bugs that grab pikmin and fling them into the ground replanting them, that could be how the candypop buds grew underground

I’m surprised that when he said the flowers were underground that he didn’t mention albinism. They have red eyes and porcelain white skin. They are adapted for living under ground. This explains their small size. They are burrowers. They need to be smaller so that they can dig out food easily. You don’t want to dig out more of the area around the food as possible. They probably put themselves in the hole to pull it out. They are also faster because they generally use that speed to dig at a decent pace.

About the whole "animals were bigger in prehistory due to their being more oxygen in the atmosphere"-thing. This is actually a common misconception. Higher oxygen levels in the Carboniferous (some time before dinosaurs) allowed insects to grow to large sizes. This happens because insects have a very inefficient method of getting oxygen out of the air. Basically, oxygen has to diffuse into the body through a bunch of tiny tubes. Vertebrates (and especially birds and dinosaurs) have efficient lungs that let them get plenty of oxygen out of the air evenat modern levels. Large animals are perfectly capable of breathing without lots of oxygen, and oxygen levels during the time that dinosaurs lived were variable but not necessarily any higher than today. Dinosaurs got really large because a number of reasons: they had life histories that promoted large size, they had adaptations that allowed them to get big (in particular, sauropods had air sacs in some of their bones, like modern birds, making them light for their size), they had digestive systems that made use of large amounts of food. The largest marine animals today are larger than the ocean animals of the past. Blue whales are the largest animals to have ever lived, but many baleen whales overtop the marine animals of the past. You rarely see reports of prehistoric marine animals (like ichthyosaurs or huge crocodiles or sharks or the like) getting much bigger than about 60 feet, while baleen whales reach 100 feet. For the most part, these are air breathing animals. But the oxygen level of the air isn't really what controls their size, instead, ecology is more important. The biggest animals are either top predators, megaherbivores or filter feeders, all three of which can be efficient at large sizes.
Yellow Pikmin's ears always made me feel like it was more of a rubber plant, and the ears were to represent the big elephant ear leaf that many rubber plants have

I just opened pikmin 2 up. The description of Pellet Posy states that "In the stem of the Pellet Posy, one can observe the muscle fiber unique to half-plant, half-animal species such as pikmin and candy candypop flowers, so the Pellet Posy is a species that can be a considered a close relative." They are in fact a hybrid and not just sentient plants!
2:40 Actually, pikmin _DO_ attack with their leaf/bud/flower. If you look closely when they attack you'll see an effect that appears when they hit an enemy, and that effect appears on the end of their stem. That's not to say red pikmin don't simultaneously use their nose, though.
rock pikmin theory if olimar turned into some kind of pikmin hybrid, maybe rock pikmin were a form of semi sentient rock creature that resisted being converted into pikmin food. or, just a rock taken to an onion. because normally pikmin only take dead enemies to their onion, so maybe anything canbe converted to a pikmin if it passes through an onion.

Fun fact: if you throw yellow pikmin that aren't fully matured into a circuit to activate it, they will become flowered by the end of the cutseen, most likely implying that they take in electricity to power themselves.
Remmember, that olimar's ship appears in super mario galaxy, so pikmin are most likely an evolution of mario plant like animals, like piranha plants and those so have bones.
You say that the Bulbmin aren't really Pikmin, but they are... They're a parasitic form of Pikmin that's embedded into a Red Bulborb, who's mind it controls. That's why it has a leaf sticking out (from the Pikmin parasite), and acts like a Pikmin, and can be converted to other kinds of Pikmin when thrown into a Candypop Bud, while looking like a Red Bulborb... I'm hoping these return in Pikmin 4. Also, there are Candypop Buds for all the other colors of Pikmin too, not just White & Purple Pikmin. For Whites & Purples, it just happens to be the only way to get them, since you don't find their onions...
Fun Fact: While in Pikmin 1, the intention was that oxygen was poisonous to Olimar, this has been retconed in Pikmin 3 as seen in a few optional dialogues to be that the oxygen concentration on PNF-404 to be too high for Koppaites and Hocatations to live with obvious connections to the, well, connections between oxygen concentration and fauna size as stated in the game itself.
Pikmin is just so one-of-a-kind. I'd recommend it to anyone on the verge of growing tired of gaming in general. Such a far-fetched concept realized to completion. Pikmin 3 Deluxe is a masterpiece
In response to your mention of "Hey Pikmin!" - It's terrible for a Pikmin game, but it's pretty good for a puzzle platformer. Being in the Pikmin series simply puts it right next to some of the best games out there, that it just can't live up to.
I've played it, and it's not even a good puzzle platformer. Most of the "puzzles" just consist of you throwing whatever pikmin type is given to you at a certain object or enemy.
Funnily enough, Pikmin do attack by whipping their leaves at the enemy, I believe the increased Red Pikmin damage being caused by stabbing their thorny nose is still accurate though
You should do a series analyzing certain enemies in the series, since there is so much to talk about with them, but also I wanna hear you talk about them!
As for Rock Pikmin, I always just believed it was some sort of liquid goopy secretion that solidified and hardened as if it were a sort of hard candy except these Pikmin were able to secrete it and it just hold together and form quickly while being planted
Sir, I believe you are wrong, in the Wii u title nintendo land there is a pikmin minigame, and in said minigame you can play as a weird mii pikmin, and as said pikmin you can get a hammer power up that replaces your leaf with a hammer, causing you to deal more damage. Thus it is a leaf slap, not a headbutt
@@painteater8805 ruclips.net/video/233Z0WhDrak/видео.html There is a part when a Bulborb shows up and that's where it's revealed that Yellow Pikmin at least have mouths. He makes an ":o" face.
I believe the canon reason why red pikmin are fire resistent is that their noses function like vents to let out all excess heat and let them regulate their temp even in fire. Like I could be making that up but I don't believe I am. Also yellow pikmin ears are to help them glide, hence why they fly further. They can just pick up air a bit easier
I have a theory about what happened to the purple and white pikmin, slight spoilers ahead. Since they can only be in caves, their populations were scarce. Their candpop flowers dont bloom in the day either, worsening the problem. With the use of the geysers, more and more ventured to the surface to roam freely. They meet up with other pikmin. They try planting candypop flowers above ground in places they think they'll grow in, and they eventually find a spot/spots. As the pikmin world changed, and the crystals started showing up, it was found only the purples were able to make a dent in them. Similarly, it was found that only white pikmin were able to safely find stuff barried in the surface, due to them being poisonous, and most likely avoided by enemies. The pikmin then realize this, and start using the flowers that gave stronger purples, and more maneuverable whites. Throw some mutation chance in there, and I say theres a semi decent chance this may be close to what happened.
So, fun fact, the color of the flower atop the pikmin's head means absolutely nothing. Red, Blue, and Yellow all have white flowers. Purple and White pikmin have purple flowers. Rock and Winged pikmin have pink flowers. If it weren't for bulbmin having white flowers and Puffmin having mushrooms instead of flowers, I'd say that the color of the flower only exists to show which pikmin were introduced in which game. So white pikmin having flowers similar in color to the poison gas is just a coincidence.
I would be surprised if Pikmin in this post Apocalyptic were some sort of toy like thing before. Like some for of ant farm that did more. That's why their trained to respond to whistles, their 'onions' look more mechanical and that there are so many varieties.
Bulbmin are actually Parasitic Pikmin. When they are smashed into the ground by Mamutas for example, their buds are orange (although they glow green), meaning they are actually orange pikmin. These pikmin could be used in the future to take over small enemies and avoid certain hazards
One thing I'd like to add to white Pikmin, their size is important if you live underground, because tunnels don't need to be too big, and you can easier squeeze through narrow cracks. Plus tiny tunnels are more likely to support themselves. Found this out in the sandpit
I like how every pikmin originally had a part of the body represented with them! Reds were noses, Yellows were ears, Blues were mouths, Purples were hair, and Whites were eyes (they had more distinct eyes.)
Purghaps the purple pikmin became more vulnerable after being exposed to the surface bcs of their short legs and heavy weight. So they attempted to burry into rocks for protection
To add to the theory about Rock Pikmin being light but dense, they can float. If you throw a Rock Pikmin into a pool of water they'll float, or at least try to stay afloat, instead of immediately sinking to the bottom like... well, like a rock.
Lockstin: Water reflects the sky and that's why water is typically blue. Me(inside with the sky nowhere near my water): wait this is reflecting the sky???????
Olimar's notes on the bulbmin in the piklopedia say that the bulbmin are part of the Pikmin family. They are simply a parasitic pikmin variant that has taken over a bulborb's body.
My suggestion for why Yellow Pikmin have ears: They act like antennae, picking up on electromagnetic fields. This could also be why they can pick up bomb rocks - the ear-tennae let them know what part they can safely grab to not set it off early
A theory i like is that the onions are like a queen art to the worker ant pikin, and that sexual dimorphism is just kicked up to 11 here. Another part of this theory is that the candy pop buds are a sort of nymph stage (or child stage) of the onion and would eventually turn into an onion after a long period of time. Could also be used to explain why there are no purple/white onions, as the buds could vary well need direct sunlight to metamorphosis into an onion
Fun fact, the “mouth” of a blue pikmin isn’t actually a mouth, it’s gills, and I’d assume that pikmin drink nectar by simply absorbing it through their skin, in the same way frogs absorb air through their skin
The bulbmin are also incredibly important, being pikmin that have evolved to live in appear as bulborbs and have no onion or candypop bud. I personally think that they reproduce via spores, and then find their host, if not living within their host as birth. They might also be a hybrid species/chimeric organism through evolution.
Pink pikmin are insanely good at catching and fighting anything airborne as well. You tell em to charge at something they act like the bees in botw and swarm em till they die
I was actually thinking about this the other day and am thankful you created a video that answered it! I was very curious about these little creatures! Glad I got to learn so much more about them. Awesome video!
Despite how old this video is, I felt I should give this Onion theory. The Pikmin 4 Onion is how an Onion is supposed to look, natural. But when an onion gets damaged, the Pikmin (who have been seen to be sapient, the landing sites don't just grow there) need to give it protection while it heals, such as some lost human technology, or some clay, creating the other onion forms. Assuming this theory is the case, the Onions in Pikmin 1 and 2 must be very damaged, as they can't fuse or hide their legs. TL;DR, Pikmin 4 Onions are how they're supposed to look, and the Pikmin add protection over time. Edit: just wanted to mention, we found out from the Japanese Website that Rock Pikmin are a type of Mistletoe Pikmin, which while not seen in games, are parasitic. Tl;Dr, Rock Pikmin are Pikmin Parasiting rocks
Fun fact that Lockstin forgot to mention regarding White Pikmin: White Pikmin actually have a .75x damage modifier to their attacks, but, they also have a 1.25x attack rate modifier, making their attacks quicker, effectively balancing them out to a 1x damage modifier because while their attacks are weaker, they are also quicker.

Imagine if other creatures ate the parasitic Pikmin? That would be a cool idea
Hopefully, Pikmin 4 brings back all the pikmin
Fun Fact: While in Pikmin 1, the intention was that oxygen was poisonous to Olimar, this has been retconed in Pikmin 3 as seen in a few optional dialogues to be that the oxygen concentration on PNF-404 to be too high for Koppaites and Hocatations to live with obvious connections to the, well, connections between oxygen concentration and fauna size as stated in the game itself.
Its time we introduce these 2 to steve the red leaf pikmin
They have to know
Pikmin is just so one-of-a-kind.
Rock pikmin break E V E R Y T H I N G including the frog op-nes of the other two games
I always assumed Yellow Pikmin ears made them more aerodynamic, which allowed them to fly further.
Actually that might be it
Funnily enough, Pikmin do attack by whipping their leaves at the enemy, I believe the increased Red Pikmin damage being caused by stabbing their thorny nose is still accurate though
0:38 ITS PIKWIN!!!!!!!!!!
Also in pikmin 3 the yellows can dig faster. Possibly because of their large ears.
I always thought the yellow’s ears were for detecting the vibrations of buried bomb rocks.
You should do a series analyzing certain enemies in the series, since there is so much to talk about with them, but also I wanna hear you talk about them!
Wow.When I read the title i actually read it as pkmn
Pkmn as in Pokémon or Pikmin?
@@ireplytoeverything3122 pokmon
As for Rock Pikmin, I always just believed it was some sort of liquid goopy secretion that solidified and hardened as if it were a sort of hard candy except these Pikmin were able to secrete it and it just hold together and form quickly while being planted
pikmin update along with enemy video when?
Sir, I believe you are wrong, in the Wii u title nintendo land there is a pikmin minigame, and in said minigame you can play as a weird mii pikmin, and as said pikmin you can get a hammer power up that replaces your leaf with a hammer, causing you to deal more damage. Thus it is a leaf slap, not a headbutt
Thank god, finally someone else who realizes that
This released just as i started to get back into the pikmin fandom what-
“Blue Pikmin are the only ones with mouthes”
Bulbmin: *Am I a Joke to You?*
In one of the animated cartoons that Nintendo made, we're shown the mouth of a Yellow Pikmin.
Where? Maybe a link?

There is a part when a Bulborb shows up and that's where it's revealed that Yellow Pikmin at least have mouths.
I'm also guessing that at some point new onions sprouted up when the pikmin diversified
So white pikmin having flowers similar in color to the poison gas is just a coincidence.
pikmin is a GREAT serie to make your kind of videos on, i wish seeing more of this here!

Why is Pikmin?
I would be surprised if Pikmin in this post Apocalyptic were some sort of toy like thing before. Like some for of ant farm that did more. That's why their trained to respond to whistles, their 'onions' look more mechanical and that there are so many varieties.
Well its good a new Pikmin game is coming

*”ah yes the floor is made out of floor”*
Hey, can you do a video explaining whatever the hell Rayman is supposed to be
It is nice to see this series getting all the love it deserves

You don’t say
Locally in Pickman free the electricity only stuns pick men that are not yellow
Pokemon, pikmin, pac man, hmmmmm how odd
Bulbmin are actually Parasitic Pikmin. When they are smashed into the ground by Mamutas for example, their buds are orange (although they glow green), meaning they are actually orange pikmin.
These pikmin could be used in the future to take over small enemies and avoid certain hazards
What is that absolutely amazing music in the beginning??
Now you need to discuss Glow and Ice pikmin when pikmin 4 is released
One thing I'd like to add to white Pikmin, their size is important if you live underground, because tunnels don't need to be too big, and you can easier squeeze through narrow cracks. Plus tiny tunnels are more likely to support themselves. Found this out in the sandpit
You better continue the "times I've said something unneeded" joke. For the good of our health.
I like how every pikmin originally had a part of the body represented with them!
Reds were noses, Yellows were ears, Blues were mouths, Purples were hair, and Whites were eyes (they had more distinct eyes.)
Pikmin, Pikmin, PIK-MIN!
Pikmin, Pikmin, PIK-MIN!
- Arlo 2020
Purghaps the purple pikmin became more vulnerable after being exposed to the surface bcs of their short legs and heavy weight. So they attempted to burry into rocks for protection
To add to the theory about Rock Pikmin being light but dense, they can float. If you throw a Rock Pikmin into a pool of water they'll float, or at least try to stay afloat, instead of immediately sinking to the bottom like... well, like a rock.
I always felt like the Pikmin games deserved more love. Especially the original one for GameCube.
I actually thought that red Pikmin hits with there leaves and that sharp nose of theres
don't know much about the game so I didn't end up watching the whole thing but it still gave it a like cuz I know you got to make a living too
a pikmin video without arlo? is this even possible? no, thats why he is here
Lockstin: Water reflects the sky and that's why water is typically blue.
Me(inside with the sky nowhere near my water): wait this is reflecting the sky???????
Olimar's notes on the bulbmin in the piklopedia say that the bulbmin are part of the Pikmin family. They are simply a parasitic pikmin variant that has taken over a bulborb's body.
My suggestion for why Yellow Pikmin have ears:
They act like antennae, picking up on electromagnetic fields.
He need too did this with the Pikmin enemies
Fun fact, the “mouth” of a blue pikmin isn’t actually a mouth, it’s gills, and I’d assume that pikmin drink nectar by simply absorbing it through their skin, in the same way frogs absorb air through their skin
Hm. Smart
You should analyze ice pikmin and oatchi (a weird dog-pikmin hybrid)
This is gonna need a update, ice and glow! Plus the other odd ones
