So the defense is essentially arguing that Cohen, in his heart of hearts, knows that Trump is innocent, but has somehow managed to hornswoggle all these other people, backed by all this evidence, that Trump is actually guilty. That, to me, is absurd. Cohen's a weasel, but he's not a supervillain.
No. They are saying he a liar and has a financial and invested interested in seeing Trump arrested. I think Cohen is a liar and the recent updates makes me think he probably lied to the prosecution. This trial a sham.
Yeh, you're right, not a saint but not a 'super-sinner' either: - I've come to view him as a "born again" version of the former Cohen who was willing to do all of Trump's dirty work for 'Da Boss'.

Nice narrative, but unfortunately none of us saw it, and cannot know the jury's reaction. This could be terrible for the prosecution. We just don't know, but it likely wasn't good.

I already know the trial will end in hung jury. All the jurists had to fill out questioaires and one of them asked : What news sources do you get your news from and one jurist wrote : X and truth social. He should have been Dismissed immediately. This is what happens when things are rushed.

The jury will examined all the evidence, not theatrics. Base on facts not fiction, they will make their decision. Cohen's testimony shouldn't be dismissed because of his past.

It's probably good that they have a long weekend to prepare for re-direct. The issue of the phone call will be critical to reframe and let Cohen describe how that call could have reasonably been multi-purpose, as well as the emphasize the other instances where Cohen testified to having spoken directly with Trump about the scheme and his blessing/directing it. But they'll need the clarification of those matters to be crisp and credible.
Not calling Weiselberg to the stand or explaining his absence will lead to a hung jury or acquittal. Weiselberg was responsible for financial records and without him linking Trump to knowing or directing him there is reasonable doubt.

I think that people fundamentally misunderstand the job of Ari on this program. It's not to parrot talking points for the left. It's to point out that maybe, just maybe, there is another side to this case. Cohen is not a perfect witness, and it is not the job of the defense to prove anything. During OJ's first trial I remember people saying he was going away for life. Then came "If the facts don't fit you MUST acquit!" and then surprise! He was found not guilty. Ari is pointing out that even though Trump maybe guilty as sin it is possible that the jury may find that the prosecution didn't prove Trump was guilty of that sin.

So how exactly should have Trumps Accountant labeled the accounting notations in the private records so it didn't become 34 Felonies that could mean 134 YEARS in jail for a records keeping fraud crime? Who was defrauded a requirement for the crime? Both the State and Federal Taxes were filed properly(both were audited)??? I am confused? Any NY Accountants chime in?
The problem was putting the reimbursements through the books of the Trump organization. That was a campaign finance violation, so they did their best to cover it up. When someone does something to help your campaign and you pay for it, that makes it a donation in kind. The answer to your question is that it should never have gone through the books.
