My high school and college years in the 80s. Glorious. No cell phones, drinking age was still 18 in a lot of places, and life was pretty good. I'd go back for sure.
All of us older folks (I’m 46) that grew up in the 80’s, we’ve been trying to tell you younger generation folks, this what our radio sounded like. It was hit, after hit, after hit, after 80. Cumulative wise, no other decade can touch the 80’s.
Agreed. I was born in 89, so I mostly grew up with my mother's music from the 70's and 80's (and of course 90's music in the radio). In my opinion, the 80's had the best music, followed by the 60's, followed by the 90's, followed by uh... 70's and 2000's on a shared place, lol. Most music made past 2010 is just sad and past 2020, downright depressing 😆I know I'll be accused of bias cause it's "what the youngins listen to" or whatever, but I am after all only 34 and I think it's objective, that modern music has very little melody, hardly ever any real instruments and is largely one-dimensional and samey.
@@Kev27RS Like everything, this is a subjective matter, but it is widely regarded that the songwriting and melodies were stronger during the sixties, and if you were to drop your age bias, this become apparent to you. The eighties and nineties have their share of great bands, but the vast majority can't hold up to the likes of Dylan, Hendrix, Beatles, Kinks, Small Faces, Stones, Zappa, The Byrds, The Doors, ad infinitum. There really is no comparison, and as i said earlier, this has been the general consensus for years now!
@@Katehowe3010 Don't get me wrong, the 60s and 70s has great music as well. The 80s and especially the 90s had so much more to offer than Rock bands...
@@Kev27RS Talk Talk, my favourite band were a product of the eighties, although their last two albums are timeless, unplaceable masterpieces, and Nirvana, the most important rock band of the nineties could release 'Teen Spirit' today, and it would fit straight back into the modern landscape! You cannot say this about the majority of eighties acts, as they are chained to the synthetic production values of the day. What's most important is that you like what you choose to, and that agreeing to disagree is the sensible outcome! Cheers.
Pope! How are you? Even though I am a Juventus fan, I love your AC Milan jersey! I just discovered your channel. Yes! Those were ALL 80s hits and very familiar songs. I keep going with your interest in the music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. They were the best. Also, spread the word!! We have to educate the younger generation that the music of today is nothing compared to the decades of the past.
Wow, brings back so many great memories, when I was care free, and living life with do mush joy. I'm 60 years old, 4 grown beautiful kids, 4 beautiful grandkids, and look back in the day with fond heart felt happiness. Thanks for the journey.
I wasn't feeling this at first, but then we got to the songs I remember from my childhood halfway through, what a trip! Amazing music to grow up to. Great video man.
Sad that they only played like 5 seconds of each, they definitely should had done 10secs. That said there was a few on this list that I hadn’t heard in years. I grew up in the 80s it was a magical time. Also as far as pop music, nothing beat the 80s
as someone born in 1985, MJ and Roxette was my jam back in childhood. Followed by all the boybands in the 90s. (NSYNC, West Life, BSB, MLTR, Boyzone, Boyz II Men, etc)
Talk about a trip down memory lane. These were my teen years. On a side note, this reminded me of a weird dream I had a few months ago where I was trying to crawl up a sand dune while being circled by toddlers riding electric tricycles and singing "Rock me Amadeus" Hey, I said it was weird... 🤣😂🤣
The 80s was the decade that first introduced MTV and video culture as a new inseparable industry that music artists were suddenly faced with. This resulted in pressures for slick production and tighter, more accessible hooks, competition for more video rotation in addition to radio. The old guard of the 60s and 70s had to sink or swim with these new demands. Many great veteran artists had to compromise; YES went for a harder, metal-pop sound, Genesis went mainstream pop, David Bowie went for a slick, refined, dance pop approach which resulted in his weakest period. Pink Floyd broke up, Led Zep were no more. In spite of all these difficult shifts new artists like Prince, Talking Heads, Eurythmics,The Police, Madonna, and of course Michael Jackson's peak period, Peter Gabriel's strongest era, etc, introduced an exciting new paradigm. It was a very interesting shift into a more "plastic" era and artists who were used to surviving via the power of their music and concert draws alone were faced with a very difficult transitional era for pop-rock.
You hit it right on the head pop diversity there isn't any today.today's music lacks soul it all sounds the same bores me to tears thank god we've got videos that can take us back when music was full of diversity and greatness plus longevity.
absolutely, people had a unique sound or else they didn't get on the radio, and you needed a great song to be on the radio or just wouldn't be on it, you had tons of one hit wonders, you don't have one hit wonders now, it's just a couple of the same people getting on the radio no matter what they put up, the game is rigged, songs put together with the same formula and imagery marketed over art, the 80's had great songs in all genres, I think we probably peaked in the late 80's, somewhere around there, when the internet came, or at least the mp3..it all went down hill, a blessing and a curse
*When all of his work is combined (producing, solo stuff, Genesis stuff and collaborations) no artist spent more time in the US Top 40 in the 80s than Phil Collins.*
I know their are pockets of good music happening today. That said. With everything laid out like that. I can't help but notice. How diverse even the mainstream popular music sounds, of that era were. Compared to today's.
Omg the 80’s……wow my best years in my youth….much partying and dancing. Many I recognice here, but I remember many songs who was much better than this, but we nearly dance to everything anyway 💃🏼🤩😂🍻😅 Thank you so much for sharing 🤩
There were a few in there that I don't think I had ever heard...but the rest I remember well. Yes, the 80's had some major hits - in both Pop and Rock. I was in my late teens during the beginning of the 80's, early 20's in the latter part of the decade. Hearing some of these brings back some fond memories of the time.
Thank you for the trip down memory lane! I am old enough to remember when each of these came out! Also, how awesome is the power of music? I have specific memories that pop up every time a different song 🎶 came on. ✌️🤘🏼🎶
I was born in the 80's...strange times when I look back on it but there was some good music during that time...you had to actually have talent to be successful
i forgot how awesome 1984 was for music. i grew up all the the 80s and i remember every song and it just triggered 10 years of memories. looking back at it now, we were striving for the kind of technology we have today, but in all honesty, 80s and 90s pre-internet were so much better. 80s was the $hit! The Hair, Music, Fashion, the CARS!!! so many unique muscle & sports cars
The 80's was just non-stop genre-defining song after generation-defining song after era-defining song.
Onslaught of Michael, Madonna, Prince, Whitney, Tina, George, Cyndi… etc. What a marvelous time
The 80's were rocking, most fun dancing, clothes, hair. It was total fun.
My high school and college years in the 80s. Glorious. No cell phones, drinking age was still 18 in a lot of places, and life was pretty good. I'd go back for sure.

I'm a 60's and 70's guy but the 80's had quite a few bangers. Happy man you featured this collection of 80's hits.

My favorite decade for music
I was 8-18 in the 80s… unique, crazy, awesome music that transitioned to what we hear today. It was the beginning of electronica and rap
I LOVE your reaction, style, the fact you don't (just) listen to mainstream. Big fan!
Hope you view some more Zep songs pretty soon. It's gratifying to see a young person react to them the way us old-timers' do.

MJ
Prince
Whitney
Bowie
George Michael
Thank God we still have Madonna!
I suggest and highly endorse you checking each one of these songs…you won’t be sorry.
Know every one, was 16 in 1980.
As a teeager of the 80’s myself, there are 5 songs among the 120 I didn’t know. 😁 But I think they weren’t big hits in my country.
GO MICHAEL
