My favorite thing about 80s new wave is that it has gotten better with time. During the 80s, at least in pop and rock, there was a bit of division. You had fans of what would become classic rock, people inspired by the 70s. Then there was glam rock and the proto new metal. Of course there was overlap between those two groups, lots of it. Then, finally, there was new wave, and not a ton of overlap. There were radio stations that would play Deep Purple and Def Leppard but if you wanted to hear Echo and the Bunnymen you needed to spin the dial. At the time, the criticism of new wave was that it was 'soft' as compared to rock, with absolutely no commentary on the quality. Now, of course, with people our age, the overlap in fans for all of those genres is near complete. Nearly all of us would be happy with a radio station that went from Boston to Metallica to Tear for Fears. More, though, in terms of artistic merit, new wave has finally gotten its due. For my money anyways, new wave is much more timeless than that late 80s glam rock.
I’m so with you. I wish kids these days would have as much fun as we did with great friends, parties, great music, movies, hair 😆 instead of sitting in front of a computer all day and hating life.
Dave Gahan is an amazing front man! The crowds love him. Check out their live performance of “never let me down again”. It’s up there with this performance. “Personal Jesus” is a banger too
Love this! There is a whole culture of this era, this music. Tears For Fears, Simply Red, U2, INXS…all should be checked out! I see you falling hard! :)
IMO, when the crowd sings the bands song(s) like that, it’s pure love. It’s love from the fans to the band and love from the band back to the fans. It’s such an incredible feeling to be a part of it. I’ve been to a bunch of concerts and shed many tears when this happens. That’s why i go to concerts. To be in room of complete strangers yet we all have something in common, love for the band.
D🌹M has been my favorite band since the 80s. I am a Devotee big time. I have seen them several times in concert. The feelings that they give you are euphoric live. They are the BEST. Go down that rabbit hole, you won't regret it.

Their “101” performance at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in front of 60,000 fans is iconic. Whatever song you choose next, if the “101 version” is an option, you can’t go wrong.

Usually this kind of music is not my style. I love Depeche Mode though. With Dave Gahan a real character as lead singer. For a while it didn't look good for him back then. But he got himself together and they are still here. Lots of great tracks. An underrated and not too popular one is the later "It's No Good" with a fantastic music video in my opinion.
So glad you’re getting to experience the music I grew up with! Just shows you how talented, creative and fantastic music singers and writers were. It’s so fun to watch your pure joy and love. ❤

I just seen them I concert last November 13 in Chicago what a great show it was and it reminded me of when I seen them when I was in my 20s I’m now 64 I really enjoyed the show.
Hi from Galicia ( north of Spain). I love Depeche Mode and Simple Minds. The best of 80's british music for me, even they still make great music today. You must react Simple Minds songs "Alive and kicking" and " Love Song" and " never let me down again" and "world in my eyes" of DM. Thank you for your videos.
You could actually call Depeche Mode industrial as People are People really put them on the map with an industrial sound. They are legendary, I have seen them live many times, always the best experience. You've only dipped your pinky toe into their catalog and picked a great song and performance to start with. Keep going, do the entire Violator album, you will not be disappointed!! 💙🤟💙
YES, my favorite band of all time. Saw them perform last year - it was a great experience! Although my fav DM song is 'Stripped', i'd suggest 'Never let me down again' next.
Always makes me SO happy to see yet another “kid” discovering a band like Depeche Mode. April 2023 I had to move mountains to get to San Antonio, TX, nine hrs from my home in central Arkansas, and overcome a list of other complications and hurdles, but I managed to see them at the beginning of their last tour, and was really impressed with how much energy they still have onstage. Dave is still the ultimate frontman, still all over the stage throughout-he always manages to hold the audience in his palm the whole time. I knew there would be a sizable number of younger fans-I’d say about 30% (at least) were under 30. They’re still popular with younger people, like my 17 year old, who has grown up being introduced to this from both parents, and really loving it. She was actually the one who was supposed to go w/me-but of course something had to screw that up and keep her from being able to go. (Obviously I still went and loved the show, but just wish she’d been there w/me.)
It took me a few years to appreciate how good Depeche mode is. I was a due hard rock/ metal guy and wouldn't listen to much else. Their full live Paris show on RUclips from a few years ago is definitely worth checking out. In fact from the thumbnail I think it is from that show.
I already commented but I’m very passionate about them. Seeing them in concert was one of the most exciting experiences I’ve had. Their 88 concert at the Rose bowl , was the most attended bowl concert at the time. They are revolutionary in the industrial pop rock genre. You could dedicate an entire channel to their career.
Dude! Get ready for a huge rabbit hole here. Depeche Mode is a good introduction to what we used to call it in the 80s, New Wave. This will lead you to: The Cure (a personal favorite), The Smiths, Morrissey, New Order...just to name a few and I AM HERE FOR IT! 🎉🎉
I've been a DM fan for many years. I've had the pleasure of seeing them in concert 9 times. It is an amazing experience. To me, they are one of the greatest bands ever, but seeing them live is where they really shine. Everyone in the crowd sings along with Dave on every song and on stage Dave takes his performance to another level.
I love it when young people discover their grandfather's music. You have to be careful, you quickly become addicted to "Dépèche Mode" and the music of the Grandparents. Thank you to life for allowing me to be young in the 70s-80s-90s, it was pure musical happiness.
Declan you have just witnessed musical religion. Depeche Mode is not just music they are an experience I’ve been lucky enough to see 3 times im my life. I suggest going down the rabbit hole you’ll never want to leave
Personal Jesus next please! British alternative/New Wave (mid 80s-early 90s) is my sweet spot - it is SUCH a vibe. New Order, Talk Talk, Tears for Fears, The Waterboys, early U2, and more
It's so good to see more people getting into Depeche mode, I've followed them since they formed in 1980, and been a fan club member since then...you have a treat coming when you start to listen to their back catalogue
There is not a bad DM song. The rabbit hole is real. I was 16 when this song was first out. I’m 50 now. 😊 I saw them live in vegas on their Playing the Angel tour. They are amazing!! Try People Are People, Personal Jesus, Strangelove, Master and Servant among others. ❤ Dave Gahan is one of the sexiest front men ever. Martin Gore writes the songs and sings lead sometimes like Home, Somebody etc
Kids of the '70s, '80s and '90s were blessed. This was the typical standard of music we heard when we switched on the radio. Well, this is slightly better but my point stands - we got great music. For free.
Depeche Mode was one of the most fun bands I’ve ever seen live. I’ve loved them since the late 80s and then when Violator dropped everyone went fucking nuts it was all over the radio and in the clubs. I would def keep going with violator tracks for now. Other British New Wave music that’s fun is New Order, Information Society, Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran
The whole Violator album is spectacular.

They are legendary, I have seen them live many times, always the best experience. You've only dipped your pinky toe into their catalog and picked a great song and performance to start with. Keep going, do the entire Violator album, you will not be disappointed!! 💙🤟💙
OMG. This takes me back...my sister and I were such fans!!!! LOVE this song.....hope you like it too.
Love love LOVE this band! We all listened, loved, danced to Depeche Mode in the 80’s! I still listen to them all the time! Enjoy! ✌🏻🇨🇦✌🏻
YES, my favorite band of all time. Saw them perform last year - it was a great experience!
Although my fav DM song is 'Stripped', i'd suggest 'Never let me down again' next.
Good call. Better yet, *both* (;
@mctrashpedal Agree with that!
Great band! I have fond memories listening to them as a kid and teenager.
It took me a few years to appreciate how good Depeche mode is. I was a due hard rock/ metal guy and wouldn't listen to much else. Their full live Paris show on RUclips from a few years ago is definitely worth checking out. In fact from the thumbnail I think it is from that show.
Berlin...
@kharius1 another good one ...was it from the same tour ?
Depeche Mode was my favorite band when I was a kid in the 80s, and into the 90s.🙀🥁
Just listened to this last night and thought Oh he would love this one
As a kid we always called this genre of music “new wave”. They have great songs! “People are People” and “Blasphemous Rumors” are amazing!
Enjoy watching the concerts. Add the studio version to the Playlist.
Love the Playlist myboy!
LOVE Depeche Mode!
One of the greatest bands youll see live! You need the live version of never let me down !!!!
ABSOLUTELY! 💯
Excellent song!:Excellent reaction as always~❤
I love it when young people discover their grandfather's music. You have to be careful, you quickly become addicted to "Dépèche Mode" and the music of the Grandparents. Thank you to life for allowing me to be young in the 70s-80s-90s, it was pure musical happiness.
Oh Dave Gahan is a beautiful, incredibly talented man ❤
If you like this one I recommend I Feel You and Walking In My Shoes
Love Depeche Mode! Went to their concert a year ago. Never stopped dancing, the energy was electric. Dave is a showman for sure!
Declan you have just witnessed musical religion. Depeche Mode is not just music they are an experience I’ve been lucky enough to see 3 times im my life. I suggest going down the rabbit hole you’ll never want to leave
They are absolutely amazing live. Incredible front man, he dances his ass off all show.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Alternative Rock
One of my ALL TIME faves! The ENTIRE album is amazing! They are phenomenal live!
They have sooooo many good songs. You should really check out "Barrel Of A Gun" and "It's No Good"
Glad you found them. They're on my playlist and I still listen to them every day. Amazing group.
Personal Jesus next please! British alternative/New Wave (mid 80s-early 90s) is my sweet spot - it is SUCH a vibe. New Order, Talk Talk, Tears for Fears, The Waterboys, early U2, and more
Walking in my shoes is surely the song youll love cause i saw dirt album on your background
One of my all time favorites! Check out their songs Barrel of a Gun and Personal Jesus!
It's so good to see more people getting into Depeche mode, I've followed them since they formed in 1980, and been a fan club member since then...you have a treat coming when you start to listen to their back catalogue
There is not a bad DM song. The rabbit hole is real. I was 16 when this song was first out. I’m 50 now. 😊
I saw them live in vegas on their Playing the Angel tour. They are amazing!!
Try People Are People, Personal Jesus, Strangelove, Master and Servant among others. ❤
Dave Gahan is one of the sexiest front men ever. Martin Gore writes the songs and sings lead sometimes like Home, Somebody etc
Yes! Love Depeche Mode! Deep dive these guys! My favs of the time.
Enjoy the Silence is a masterpiece.
YESSSS! My favourite band of all time!
Kids of the '70s, '80s and '90s were blessed. This was the typical standard of music we heard when we switched on the radio. Well, this is slightly better but my point stands - we got great music. For free.
Me. My daughter and her friend drove to Cleveland OH to see them in concert. We saw them in Indianapolis IN in the US. They were fabulous!!!
