I'm thinking the best bang for the buck would be a 335 XI. Just deal with the headaches (VC gasket, OFHG, Injectors, HPFP, plugs and coils, vacuum lines also flush the fluids are the things you need to do if you dont have paper work.) Just do it once and your golden for the next several years. Now that the maintenance stuff is done it will set you back 2K if you do it your self. The fun start to add up quick if you add some DP, FMIC, CP, inlets, upgrade the fuel pump and some E85 and a tune and your making 500AWH all for under 3K realistically. Best part all of the mods are DIY stuff you can do in your garage. If you dont mind wrenching the 335 is the way to go. Your also going to have the most luxurious, least dated and best driving cars of the bunch . Its truly an enthusiast car. Once this is all done it will be reliable. No Pain No Gain!

We bought a 2001 A8L for less than 3500$. 310hp and 302tq, plus old school luxury with low miles and a service history was a great buy. The math equates to 10.62$ per Hp. some of the basic maintenance gets pricey, but those older Audi V8s are less problematic and use a timing belt instead of a chain, which makes it less expensive to replace. Outdated luxury is much cheaper than new.

If you over boost your Subaru though that’s when major issues start to happen like head gaskets etc, if you want major tunes you have to upgrade a lot of parts obviously otherwise keeping a Subaru stock it’s really reliable!

I would spend a little bit more to buy the S60 II t6 AWD rather than the s60R. It's hotter, has a lot of modern features, i would say that it sounds more aggressive with the inline 6 (305hp) and it drives amazing. The v60 d3/d4 AWD is also a strong contender as it can easily be tuned to reach over 300hp on the stock engineblock, a company called BSR tuned one to 400hp.

Thanks for another excellent list. In worked in N.Vancouver for one of Canada’s last Jeep/AMC/Renault dealerships. I had the pleasure of driving those AMC Eagle Wagon Limiteds (with fake wood) and Spirits, shortly after the company (AMC) disappeared (1990). Back then they were the only real 4WD ‘cars’. And compared to anything on today’s list; they were ‘archaic’, to say the the least. In every way. Thanks again for another Ideal list.

  • @jordankrall7497

I feel like the 3 series bmw 330xi would of been a better choice with a lil more horsepower 255 would be a nice difference from 230! Also the 3 series from 325 - 330 here in Ohio go for pretty cheap from the cheapest being $2500-$7000 and $7000 being very low miles and in almost perfect condition also the n54 335i is a great tuning platform you just have to keep up on the maintenance or do preventative maintenance and you shouldn’t have to be scared to drive it plus I’ve seen them go for as cheap as $4500-$12000 at most.

B7 2.0T is better than the 3.2. You can tune, fairly cheaply, a 2.0T has same power, more torque and better balance.
There is a reason the V6 option was dropped for the model later generations.
