One car that I rarely see mentioned for young car enthusiasts for cheap is a 3G Mitsubishi Eclipse gt. You can get one with a manual for under 2-3 grand and they are really easy to work on and they handle and look pretty good aswell
I agree, very underrated but a little unreliable and a little slow
Also, another underrated car you can get under 5k is the Acura rsx

The g8 is so under rated. I never would have thought of it (unless i was still living in New Zealand). That and and the Mustang are 2 great starter/ first cars for gear heads!

For the 1st time buyers. I've owned a g35 for 7 years. 150k miles, only.thing I've had to do was change the head gaskets. Drove it to cali and back from Texas. Its been superreliable, and a good choice. If you're looking to modify it, look elsewhere. It's super expensive to get any major gains out of the vq, but if you want a reliable car, this is the car for you.

My first car was technically a Camaro 2SS. First vehicle was a 67 c10 I bought off a farm when I was 13. Cleaned it up, dropping in a sweet little 350/th350 and a new gas tank and new brakes and it was pretty sick. I ran with open headers and a mild cam. Truck was both loved and hated though high school. Set off car alarms anytime I started it. Though now it’s got a 509 in it

Corvettes (specifically C4 generation) is EXTREMELY cheap to insure. Reliable and 300hp if you go for the 90+ model year. I pay $20 a month for insurance on my 1985 corvette. Super fun car. Most people think because its a sports car that insurance is expensive... Most insurance companies just look at it as an old chevy
Nissan Altimas are the most and Jeep Wranglers are the least!!

Classic 80's or early 90 Chevy G20 Van. V8 motors, burnouts, lots of room for activities, holds lots of friends, fitsa queen mattress for camping, looks rad with sidepipe exhaust and cragar mags, perfect for tailgating and customizing...
I would add the 90's Acura Integras. I had a '93 and a '96. The '96 was especially nice. I'd get it up to 75 mph on the way to work in the morning. (okay, it was actually close to double that speed.)

Constantly battling the CEL and stuff breaking/going haywire on my golf has not been beautiful. I loved it for a few months before it started falling apart. And I babied that thing too and took such good care of it but it didnt matter

That acronym is genius for Miata. My first car WILL be an Evo VI. As of now I am 18 (in 2 days as of this comment), and I have a job set up, part-time paying above minimum wage (luckily) along with juggling college I should and will be able to get one right when they are US legal in a few years, plus extra money for a place to stay (if I keep my job of course). Been loving the videos!

Acura rsx type S such an underrated car, I own 2 of them. 225hp NA as my daily and 557hp turbo as my weekend car.
Grand prix is slept on I think. You can get the GTP or GXP for some pretty good power. Good motor that lasted me 250k miles. Lots of options to tune it. Comfortable ride
My first car was a golf mk6 1.8L tsi, really love it, upgraded to a m7 golf r later
Can't forget the 4STANG (4th gen Mustang, as I call it) I'd love to have a 1995 5.0 one with a soft top and in canary yellow...Ooh I'm just thinking about it and I can't waaaaittt!

still within that price range, I bought me an Audi S6 V10 as my first car. Absolutely adore it and still can’t believe I own one of them! They don’t have any failure points but are maintenance intensive, but most of the work you can do yourself with you RUclips video and an OBDeleven. It’s a very dual personality car, you can be driving home from the grocery store in a quiet, comfortable sedan one minute, then carving canyons with a screaming V10 the next. Sounds like an american V8 that turns into a Gallardo. Plus it’s the perfect sleeper! It’s only the sound and the V10 badge that really give it away. Seeing peoples faces when they realized was priceless 😂 best part is, it’s such a nice car it’s converted two of my friends into car people, and people who can’t tell a crankshaft from a head gasket have had some really nice things to say about it after going for a spin!

For me I would pick the G35 or the Golf. For cheaper cars under 25k I love the Pontiac G8 as well as the Chevy SS. I also like Saab’s and Volvos. Subarus are cool too. Someone in my family has a Legacy and it’s a great winter car.
Pick NOT a german car. From a former VW GTI fanboy. Unless you LOVE the idea of constantly battling the plethoras of common issues those blasted cars are plagued with.
(I made the mistake of buying a GTI and am selling it as soon as it can accelerate without stalling)

The g series Infiniti’s were beautiful man. I miss them. My first car was and is an 07 g35 sedan with the “new” redesign that looks like the g37. Such a nice car I genuinely don’t wanna see it go ever. Hella reliable too. Back in the early days I slacked a lot too. I had the check engine light on for months and nothing went wrong. Turned out to be one of my catalytic converters going out and a few leaks but the bitch RAAAAAANNNNNNNN like it was healthy. I bought it with over 150k too. Transmission sounded a tad dry just needed fluid but fr these things don’t get enough credit for how reliable and fun they are to drive
What about the Acura TL (2004-2008)? You had that on your older lists, is it still good?
They’re sporty and fun cars by no means a race car but it’s well rounded, unfortunately there’s not much to do to them

@Ideal Media, I have another alternative to the Pontiac G8 and it is the 2005 Pontiac Bonneville GXP. Yes, it is not based upon the Holden type cars, but if you can swap out the Northstar engine on the GXP model and put in an LS engine under the hood instead, and maybe make some aftermarket modifications to it, you can have yourself a nice little sleeper muscle car. Kelley Blue Book says that these vehicles typically go between $4,123 and $5,127 (as of 02/22/2021).

I have had a civic, a golf, and a Miata. I drive a standard 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 now and it compares if not surpasses the above listed for fun, gas mileage, comfort, cost, reliability, and performance. Of course I modded it a little after falling in love with it lol. I always find it funny that you car guys always overlook the 1st gen and second gen Focus. It's no GTR R34 nur, but I gotta tell you, I have absolutely NO regrets. Why don't you find a good condition one and take it for a spin? You WON'T be disappointed! I did love my Golf though I must admit. The Miata was a nightmare in a rainy climate and the Civic was cardboard seats style which reminded me of the 1st gen Neon. Not a good impression at all.
