BIG HIT with the family tonight!
We've _all_ been sick, & without ever having this before, I just knew it would hit the spot!
I did have to adjust the heat down for them, & the sugar for me. I cut both in half; making up the difference with ssamjang paste.
I would've loved it full spice, but it was still *very* tasty.
Thanks for another delicious meal, Maangchi!

I know this has nothing to do with your dish, but I want to tell you that I like it very much that you have no background music in your cooking videos. The sound of cutting vegetables or frying meat gives it a very authentic touch :)

Before when I was still young and one time I'm sick with high fever and I have no appetite to eat, my Mom will cook kimchiguk then my appetite comes back and I can finish my meal and lowers my fever... kimchiguk makes me feel good and it's soooo tasty even you have a fever.. thank you Maangchi for posting this dish... :)

Keep your kimchi container outside the refrigerator. It will ferment in a few days. You don't have to wait for 2 weeks. The kimchi I used in the recipe was stored in the refrigerator right after I made it, so it took 2 weeks to ferment. Check out the kimchi recipe on my website and read the part of FAQ please. Good luck with your Korean cooking!

Thanks to your recipes I go through a MASSIVE jar of Kimchi every month and a half on my own! (You know those HUGE jars they sell premade Kimchi in, in the stores? Well, I emptied one and that is my Kimchi Jar) I have Kimchi stew/soup pretty much every day. Not to mention the other Korean dishes I cook now. And I love it! Thank you! =)

I made this today. I try to follow the recipe as close as possible. I didn't have the pepper paste. So, I use red ground pepper itself and some soybean paste. And I didn't use sugar. I used organic stevia, instead. It turned out delicious. Will do this again.

I just overspiced it and I've been scared to use it since then 😅 But watching this recipe makes me wanna try it... Is 7 month old (untouched) kimchi ok? If it's gonna be too spicy will cleaning of some of it help?

Can't wait to try it. A nice lady who owns a restaurant near me gave me a bowl of Kimchi soup one day when I was there because I had such a bad cold. Please check out my white steamed rice recipe: www.maangchi.com/recipe/rice
This is how I make the multi-grain rice in this video. Black sweet rice makes the rice a little purple.
      1. Combine 1 cup short grain rice, 1/2 cup sweet brown rice, 1/2 cup barley rice, and 2 tablespoons black sweet rice in a heavy pot.
      2. Wash and drain the mixture of the grains a couple of times. Drain water as much as you can and add 3 cups water.
      3. Cover and let it sit on the kitchen counter for a few hours.
4.Cook it over medium high heat for 10-12 minutes.
      5. Turn the rice over with a rice scoop or spoon.
      6. Simmer it over low heat for another 10-12 minutes.
      7. Fluff with a rice scoop to remove excess steam. Serve immediately with side dishes.

Wow looks so good. This restaurant near me does Kimchi soup with Salmon, I love it. Would love to try and make it one day.
