I actually appreciate that it was Dave in this conflict, because he was already established to be insecure about his place in school, as well as his relationship status. This was also before his growth spurt the following season, so he's been carrying some internalized misogyny. It also helps that he wasn't there for a lot of Adam's storylines that bolstered his own confidence, so he doesn't know first hand what Adam has gone through prior to this point. Regarding Adam, he definitely made some weird choices in relation to Dave. If he already told Eli about the struggle, then why not just have Eli show him the stance? Eli was already established as being by far the coolest regarding Adam. Regarding the conflict itself, I think it was excellently done and definitely one of Dave's most memorable storylines. The only gripe I have is that almost all of Adam's storylines on the show are in relation to his identity or dating while trans. I love how educates the audience, but at some point they needed to stop treating Adam like a teaching device.
That scene with Claire and Katie was terrible. Imagine the girl who will end up dating your stepbrother/the guy you dumped after being cheated on by the guy your best friend used to date that she had stolen from her own best friend trying to force you to review a play from your abusive ex-boyfriend who literally wrote the play to mock you. But yeah, her face is annoying or whatever
I really love Degrassi because it always tried to talk about tough subjects and be inclusive, even if it didn’t always completely succeed (especially with their characters of color). The fact that they had a gay character in 2004, a bisexual character in 2005, a lesbian character in 2009, an openly trans character in 2010, and way more queer characters is honestly revolutionary imo. Not many shows at that time featured lgbtq+ characters and I’ll always love Degrassi for what it did.
@@siddayengl I dropped off after season 10 of Degrassi TNG and never watched next class 😭, but I think it’s really great they had a non-binary character!
I do think the situation would’ve went differently if Adam would’ve had a conversation with him about the bathroom before peaking. Everyone is on guard in the bathroom.
Yeah it wasn't right, but people are missing the two differences between them. Adam was a few feet from afar, looking at his stance whereas Dave came up directly NEXT to Adam and PEEKED DOWN... (This is just for certain people in the comments)
Exactly. While inappropriate Adam at least had a understandable motive and was not trying to make Dave uncomfortable while Dave was actively encroaching on Adams personal space
I thought I made it clear that I said that Adam should not have done that. That's not really the point of the narrative. I explained why Adam did what he did, not that I think he is right for it. Just because Adam did something wrong doesn't mean that Dave should say the things he should say.
@briannawilliams97 the way you dragged Dave compared to the faint whisper on Adam making Dave uncomfortable in the bathroom is what I felt was insanely biased. If it was the other way around and a trans woman was peaking at a woman using the toilet that would be looked at ten times worse. They already stigmatize trans women using women bathrooms for predatory behavior as it is even though 99% of them aren't doing that. They were both wrong equally. Transphobia is wrong, violating a person's right to personal privacy in a bathroom was wrong, and Dave was wrong to try and reverse peak at Adam at the urinal.
@@Alexavian i thought it was pretty clear what this episode is about. how can someone know that someone is uncomfortable if they don't say it. dave that whole episode was not clear what was bothering him with adam. how can you as a person expect someone to understand what makes you uncomfortable if you don't say anything? dave was not knowledgeable on the topic of being trans so he was uncomfortable. what adam did is what any teen would do tbh. doesn't make it right or anything but not all teens would say a slur tho. to me the difference is that of apples and oranges. this is obviously a show but in reality you can't expect teens to have an open dialogue about what makes them uncomfortable. i mean the plot would have been completely different if dave let adam explain why he did what he did.
Comparing bigotry/racism towards black people to transphobia ain't it, yo. We were trained and kept in slavery. Trans people were not. I have no issue with trans people whatsoever, but do not compare the two. Dave was wrong for doing what he did but acting as if Dave didn't have the right to feel how he did, is wrong as well.
im not saying that i necessary disagree with you, but to adam he felt that it was the only way to explain how it was to be trans after numerous times of trying to get dave to see why he was wrong to be biased towards him

I didn't have much hate for claire i feel like there are characters much more Deserving of that title of "insufferable"
Awesome video! I’m shocked this doesn’t have more views!
This video was so good. Keep them coming

Really good video 👍
The narration of this video is absolutely bias. Adam was wrong to follow Dave into the bathroom and look at him using the urinal
