As a Manny Santos STAN, thank you for making this! I always thought Manny was done soo dirty because of how the men that she was with and the students at degrassi treated her, but sadly, it is realistic. We dont want to admit it, but everyone is so much quicker to call a woman promiscuous before ever saying the same about the guy (and is something we still see today, even in this modern era of feminism). In actuality, I still think Craig wouldn’t face many consequences because thats whats still (sadly) realistic. I think people would say things, but girls would still be falling for his bad boy charm and his friends would still like him. This is a really great video! 💗
Let’s not even go into how Jane gets shitted on as a character for cheating on Spinner, but Craig is idolized as a character even with his horrible past.
I related to Manny SO MUCH growing up and watching Degrassi. It always seemed to me that her actions weren’t malicious they were a result of being perpetually unheard and invalidated. I grew up with parents from a strict culture, similar to Manny, and acted out due to that a lot. I never understood the Manny hate! To be completely honest the episode with her ab*rtion impacted me so much, it made me so much more committed to safe sex than any church or school lecture. Showing these raw moments where Manny faced consequences for her actions (no matter if I felt those consequences were justified) made me tighten it up as far as getting into trouble. Manny Santos is a queen, we can never let the world forget it lol
I think that it always bothered me how Emma reacted to Manny’s actions. Manny was actually a very loyal person in general. During a part of the Xmas special where she called Craig, my heart broke to see her desperate to have any amount of his attention when she deserved so much more.
I agree about Emma! I’ll also never understand her initial reaction to Manny wanting an abortion. Yes, Emma is a product of teen pregnancy but she had been established as a feminist from the beginning.
@@scarhead11 omg exactly! She was very much “all for fighting for an issue” as long as it mattered to her. The way she treated Liberty when her ex moved on with Liberty was nasty, she never seemed like a feminist to me.
@@mariella2884 emma was a awful friend and just a nasty person in general. Her beliefs in feminism were only to benefit her and no one else. I couldn’t stand her growing up.
Manny ditched Emma at the rave to have sex with Craig in Emma's bed. I do not feel bad for her honestly. She knew Craig had a girlfriend so I am unsure what behavior she was expecting from him.
I think the reactions of the characters were (and unfortunately are) realistic. But the show itself never painted Manny as a sex-crazed person, as viewers we were able to see her struggles due to the unfortunate reputation placed on her. Also, I think its important to note that Jake Epstein had condoms thrown at him in real life- so people had a hard time separating him from his character as well.
Bro, the whole problem started with her, trying to be older. She could’ve just stayed as she was but she wanted the attention of older dudes No amount of insecurity can eclipse that level of stupid
I think the cultural effect that TV shows had on US 10 years ago is very different than what they have on us now. I think 10 years ago it was very easy to look at the Craig and Manny storyline and not know anything about the actors and be able to fool yourself into thinking that they are the same. Only recently have we began speaking up about parasocial relationships and the facade of television, characters, and the intense emotional one-sided attachments to fictional characters. Also we have to remember that the target audience of this show was preteens and teenagers. I was watching Degrassi the next generation when I was 15 years old. I could not even begin to grasp the seriousness of separating character from actor and I was trying to become an actor myself. I am very thankful that hindsight has been so clear and we are able to reflect on times like this now with a better understanding of how media has shaped us. With that said, Craig is a character with someone who I once adored when I was younger and after re-watching Degrassi a few times and my adulthood I see him ultimately as someone that I would never want my child, sibling, or friend to have a relationship with. This is not only due to his reluctance to seek help for his mental health, but also his misogynistic behavior in regards to women. I have a very small soft spot for him out of nostalgia but that's where that feeling ultimately stops.
I could never get into Craig. I felt bad for him when he was introduced and I liked his first few stories, but he seems like the kind of guy you have to walk on eggshells with. Whenever he makes an appearance after his departure from the show, I'm just not excited to see him because he's left a bad taste in my mouth when talking about him. A show like Degrassi can turn asshole characters like Jay, Spinner, Bianca, and Holly J. and make you enjoy seeing them or even root for them to succeed after a few years, but Craig was someone I was kind of glad to get rid of. I only enjoyed him because he was a good reason to bring Joey back in to the show.
Craig was a jerk. I never saw the appeal then and not now. As for Manny, I think her intentionally hooking up with someone's boyfriend is a no-no. I think that is a line you do not cross. I felt bad for her with the revenge porn plotline.
Manny would get hate for getting with a man that is taken. We are in an age where it’s women stand with women so she would have been ostracized for going against “girl code”. Craig also would have been flamed by all the girls too
I personally think Manny reputation got ruined when she showed up in a thong at 14 because that immediately gave ppl a "certain image" of her, along with stealing boyfriends but despite this as much as she was criticized Craig should've been criticized as well for his actions but nothing as changed, nobody cares when a guy is "promiscuous" but girls are supposed to stay innocent forever 🤦♀️
Honestly I love manny but she literally goes for guys who are in relationships with other girls it’s one thing for them to break up and then she goes after them but she blatantly goes for men in a relationship like Craig entertained it but she chased him from the club to his garage etc.
to be fair, I remember Peter being a pariah during season 5 because of what he did. he basically didn't have friends until Emma FAILED her mission at getting revenge and instead pittied him and ... for whatever reason, that turned into lust???? lol and then Manny forgave him later on. his actions even followed him into season 6 for a bit. i thinking about his introduction to darcy,
I think that the reason I liked manny while watching the show and found Craig irritating is that I didn't watch Degrassi growing up- I started it a couple of years ago with today's teen's attitudes in my mind. But I bet that if I had watched manny and also Craig back in the 2000s, I would have probably just stuck to the narrative that was portrayed- that she was a slut and Craig a leading man.

That is like a six year gap

Nope now they want women to be forced to carry even with complications so society’s gone backwards

@@scarhead11 I think it creates nuance in a character. I think she took Manny's abortion personally because she is the daughter of a teenage mother.
I think if Peter did what he did today, Manny would have gone to court against Peter for distributing child pornography.

If Craig and manny ever got married, her name would have been Manny Manning😬
I follow you on TikTok please more Craig videos
this video is amazing
Degrassi does it right
Damn straight. I'm a superfan of Riverdale, Degrassi, and Chilling adventures of Sabrina
Emma and Manny glo'd up good.
I liked Craig, and they canceled Degrassi in Australia before he became the asshole so it never became a bad thing for liking Craig.
Yeah, I think he would get a completely different reaction. Great video
