    Manchester United’s owners, the Glazers, have been controversial figures since taking over the club in 2005. Many protests from fans have been aimed at their American owners, with Manchester United’s debt climbing, poor transfer markets, and Ed Woodward to run the football side of things for far too long in the opinion of some. With the help of RISC Vision, we’ll take a deep dive into Manchester United’s financials, their debt, their dividend payments and more.

    • @boilermakerspecial4714
      @boilermakerspecial4714 3 года назад +81

      It has more to do with both coming from the NFL specifically than being Americans.
      The NFL is a hard salary cap league so no matter how little a team spends there isn't a Man City or Chelsea out there to spend double or triple the amount. This also means that one team can't have all the best guys at every position because their combined salaries would be higher than the cap. So the best players tend to get spread out across the league. It's also why there is so much parity in the NFL
      TLDR: They operate their clubs like they have a hard salary cap in a league that basically doesn't have one

A team can play the whole season losing all matches and fans would still go and watch on TV. Plus winning the super ball is easier in my opinion from a probability point of view, the season is 16 games max (if u rank below a certain number of teams in the east/west conference league u play something like 10 games max) so I'm saying the NFL is made to make every owner billions even if u plan to win or lose your games (i bet that the glazers drop brady soon and be non competitive for 10 years)

    As an accountant this is an excellent video. Problem with most of these tactics implied by venture capitalists and people who take over businesses is that even if it’s a cash cow now (and they’re making significant money off of the club) the debt accrues so much that it becomes impossible to make the payments and the company eventually goes insolvent. Eventually they will need to either sell off the entire company or the company will go into bankruptcy.

    • @wayneshamba6961

This means they paid dividends out of the company reserves. (Reserves are part of Owner's equity, which are difficult to dilute as per say)

    I've worked on quite a few M&A deals and a lot of LBOs amongst those as well. It's very commonplace especially in the US. How it works most efficiently is when the VCs and PEs pay a large premium to the Company's value (EV) to buy the club and fund it mainly through debt. But these investors bring in their expertise such that the actual value of the Company also increases. Cause that's how the shares held by them also increase in value.
    However, in the case of Man United, it seems like the investors brought in expertise for the commercial side of things but the club regressed in terms of the footballing side of things.
