- Extremely satisfying restoration video of an old Ford RC Truck.
This restoration was quite involved, and took many hours between filming, cleaning, and repairing this old electric toy truck.
The RC truck I restore in this video is a vintage 1980's Tamiya Ford f150 ranger step side model. It is an electric, radio controlled model car powered by a 7.2v battery pack delivering power to a 540 size electric motor.
To start the restoration, I disassembled the entire truck back to a pile of parts. Some plastic parts were broken, and many screws were rusty. The tires were destroyed, and the body was dull and damaged.
The plastic and aluminum parts were cleaned in soap and water, and some old adhesives had to be removed.
The electronics had to be cleaned and repaired. The speed controller had some bad solder joints, and the battery plug needed to be replaced. While I was restoring these components, I decided to eliminate some connectors and replace some old wires.
Luckily the electronic servos and radio receiver were functioning properly, and just needed some cleaning. I chose to replace the old rusty electric motor as these are common and not super significant to the authenticity of the truck.
Next the Ford truck body needed to be restored. The plastic was extremely dull, and the color was gray while is should be gloss black. I left the original decals in tact, and proceeded to polish the plastic as well as the decals. It worked very well, and the shine and color was restored.
The tires were extremely old and damaged, and beyond repair. The wheels had been spray painted at some point in the past. I was able to restore the original color of the wheels by removing the spray paint with acetone. After the paint was stripped, a fresh set of tires were installed.
During reassembly, I also upgraded the shocks to modern oil-filled units. These are much smoother than the old parts, and improve performance.
I was able to find some of the missing parts to complete this model on ebay.
During re-assembly, grease was applied to all gears and moving components that required it, and thread lock was used where screws are likely to come loose.
When the restoration and repairs were complete, I was able to enjoy running the toy truck as it was intended to be ran when new.

thank you for making real restoration videos, not stuff you destroyed yourself and threw them on the ground and pretend you found it
Those are the worst! This was a 100% authentic ebay find.
Nothing’s more gratifying than taking something that’s been neglected for many years and turning it back into something worthy of being displayed on a shelf again. 🤙
I restored around eight vintage R/Cs now, but have three more RC10T1s to finish up...Keeping the late-‘80s and early-‘90s alive and well!
I’m pretty big into modern day R/C cars. Never knew how old R/C cars worked. Love this!
They have come a long way. It's like a blast from the past driving one of these older models!
Aspazz
Cool video. That was my very first RC truck I ever had when I was 14 years old. I'm 45 years old now. Long time ago. I was just thinking back though and I do not remember my Blackfoot having speed controls like that. Mine were all electronic I guess you'd call it. I also remember putting a whole bunch bigger engine in it too, it was not only fast but wow could it jump for also. :-) I remember I stayed up all night long putting my brand-new Blackfoot together. I was so tired the next day I couldn't even go to school. LOL
I had this as a kid. The memories you just brought back!
Same here, it gave me goosebumps!
haha had one also was a blast... completely destroyed it though.. a buddy was into racing associated rc10 at the time and we put one of his old electronic speed controls and i believe it was a 12t double... had a little track flat out on the straight into the first jump... that thing tumbled for what seemed like forever broke the body cracked the frame in like 5 places one of the wheels went flying... total right off as they say lol brother had a hornet friend had a frog and grasshopper... i had a clodbuster that sat in my closet up till about 10+ years ago brought it to a hobby shop wanted to update the electronics get it running again... he liked that it was all original and offered to trade me for an emaxx... so i did... but yeah the black foot was my first proper r/c
My brothers got this one. I maintain it 4 him

Nothing can beat the feeling of self accomplishment of cleaning and repairing renovating an rc truck or car
It almost brings a tear 😢 to your eyes, for how much loving care he puts into the rebuilds!
I never had any RC toys growing up, but this video was oddly nostalgic to watch. What a great job, thank you so much.
Thanks for watching. I remember saving for months to buy one as a kid.
Same
The Tamiya Blackfoot was my first big Rc Car . I think i need my own one again.Great Restoration. Pls more of this .
Pp
Same here! That thing was a blast. Even when the mechanical speed control would start on fire! :-D
The Frog was my first hobby grade car
Same here. Finally talked my parents into letting me get a hobby grade rc and this one was it. My parents wanted me to pay for the hobby shop to put it together but I insisted on doing it myself. That thing was not the fastest but it was a blast.
Have you guys every tried the gas powered ones, my golly they are fast.
I was screaming with joy until you put the mechanicals speed control back in.
The sound at the end takes you back .
Nice resto, still have mine that i built when they first came out. And I'm 56 lol
I still got parts and pieces.
So detail. I really love your restoration style 😍
I got one of the original Blackfoots back in 1987.
Lots of memories!! Ty for the video!
Those KO Propo servos were awesome back in the day! Way out of my price range when I was a kid!
I remember burning the crap outta my hands on those resistors lol
Lol heat generators they were. The new electronics are much more efficient and stay pretty cool.
Me to
Same
I upgraded to a solid state controller after replacing something like three or four of those. Made the truck Ten Million times more reliable.
Very good job
beautiful chasis
Yes!!! NO MUSIC!!! Thank you Sir,,
i had one of these back in the day nice kit to build and run around the garden
most respect to you sir for restoring this R/C, hats off
Although I would have done a few things differently, you get all the points for restoring a mechanical speed control. I've NEVER seen that done. Bravo
Lol, not necessarily worth the effort but in the spirit of keeping it original, it had to be done!
Curious to what you would of done different?
😁 This brings back a lot of memories! I had a lot of cheap Nylint, Tyco, etc. RC cars as a kid, but the "Blackfoot" was my first hobby quality one in the early 90's. Mowed lawns all summer and mail ordered it out of the Tower Hobbies catalog. Awesome restoration, and thanks for the trip down memory lane!
I remember those days of summer jobs to pay for rc trucks!
Do more RC car restorations!
It's a good idea to have the tools to do these repairs/restorations a beautiful job if I may say so :)
This is like the only legit restoration.. I’ve seen cars in this exact same condition, like my RadioShack golden arrow. It was in a garage for 35 years.
This was one of my favorite truck builds as a kid. I had lots of good times with this truck.
Éelelwl
És,dd
done really well i love that you used that box wrench that Tamiya gave you
I must have about 20 of them from years of kits haha
It certainly was satisfying to see you breathe new life into an old RC monster truck. I used to love those when I was little.
Thats a quick truck i didn't know old rc cars were just as fast as todays!
Geared a bit high, but yes quite fast!
I had a Blackfoot when I was in 6th grade, got it for Christmas, I'm 42 now
Do you have it left
I wish I did, as well as the clodbuster and bunch of other older Tamiya classics we had when I was younger
I still have my BlackFoot and King BlackFoot
I've Had, 2 Blackfoots, & A Clodbuster, Of Course I'm a Bit Older... I Really Enjoyed the 2WD Blackfoot!
I am also 42, i had the striker (tamiya?)
I also had the kyosho double dare.
The Willys cj5 or cj7.
All my friends had the grasshopper..
Was using 9,6 volt batteries and LeMans 240 engine or something like that..
Good old times.. Melted wires and connectors, changed the tamiya powerplugs to 12v spade connectors.. Melted the speed controller..😂😂
The White resistor Block had to be changed all the time.. 😁
Ahh, that times.. Miss it now😟
whenever you find out the speed controller is mechanical you know its the 80's
Edit: 70's to 90's lol.
I had a Digiace system (3 channel) like that in an aircraft I built in the late 70's. They were old even then...
Decendants of the big and heavy Digimites that took a lot of power to haul around. People who remember the Digimites were there at the start of digital proportional R/C.
Ahh, memories...
Traxxas still had mechanical in the 90s lol but they weren't exposed like the tamiya ones. Definitely a throwback on tech though. I had a guy come in the hobby store he had bought a re-release of the cloudbuster and had never seen an electronic speed controller before and he was my kit didn't come with my speed controller LOL I blew his mind will just say that it's really cool seeing people that I wanted to get back into the hobby again very thankful to be working at a hobby shop and I get to see all walks of life of different ages but love when people come in and talk about the old cars.
@@TheMdavis07 First hobby grade RC I bought was a Traxxas Rustler RTR in 99 It had a mechanical speed control and it sucked bad lol I upgraded everything and modified the steering radius It was terrible stock It turned out to be a decent racer Nothing like the old Losi:s or Team associated though lol
I got one these when they were brand new in the late 80s. Since they were rear-wheel drive, they were extremely fast for the "Big foot" type vehicles. Loved it a lot, and I am considering buying the remake from a couple of years back! GREAT restore job! And thank you for taking me back to me and my dad building this!
Pumpkin.
Also, don't forget about the Grasshopper 1&2 models, and the Frog 🐸. The Lunch box, and Midnight
Super cool, I'd love to find old rc wrecks and restore them.
Not so easy to find!
Beautiful and efficient! Reminds me of a sloth that gets the job done.
Wow.. not only an incredible rebuild but a chilled and soothing video to watch
Thanks for watching!
Old rc cars where so well built
True, I miss all of the hard plastic bodies.
Plzz keep restoring RC cars 👍
The original Blackfoot was my first RC. Very cool.
I think it looks much better with yellow wheels as originally made. Awesome restoration work!
I had that truck when I was a kid, I saved my money for a year and bought it and a radio for $500, I had to put the entire thing together, it taught me so much about how stuff worked and following directions Etc. Now we just by them “ready to run” and yes I’m 45 years old and still playing with RC.
I used to sell those new at a local hobby shop. All of the Tamiya r/c cars were great sellers, well made, and easy to get parts for back then. I still own a few.
Damn for an older rc she's quick. Cool project thx for sharing.
Man this is so cool to see old-school R/C rides living the good life again
Absolutely amazing restoration, beautifully filmed, must have been a lot of work to film and restore all the details.... please do another Tamiya when possible, love it :-)
My favorite toy car was the battery-operated Dr. Doom's doom roller. Next to that was also TRUNDAXX battle transport vehicle. This toy was fit for the 6-inch 'Masters of the Universe' action figures. 🔋 🏴 🔌 ✊️ 🚤 🔋
the sound of electric, it's from the future
Back in our day this was the R.T.R kit after it was built. You learned a lot putting these kits together.
True, I loved building kits as a kid.
I had this one. Upgraded the suspension and motor and had a blast with it.
My son and I built that truck as his Christmas gift back in 2000. Painted it Chevy Orange however.
The Blackfoot was my first real r/c truck. It was a kit, so I had to put it together. It worked perfect the first time I tried it! It was a great truck! They have come along way since then!
DAMN! What a lot of parts. I had no idea
I had that tamiya bush devil back in a days when i was a kid, which is basically same car as this
They build quite a few models off of this platform, but I had not heard of the bush devil. Learned something new!
@@SatisfyingRestorations I remember this one back then. I couldn't get a hold of one for some reason, so, later on, I got a Traxxas stampeded instead.
I had this truck, memories!.
You really made me thinking of buying one of those...
The rain on the background 😍😍
100% authentic background sounds on this channel!
Super satisfying
I have suggest it's so beautiful the body is ford raptor! 🤩🤩🤩
Nice one, brings back memories from when I fixed up a Tamiya bear hawk
Man what an awesome video. Absolutely love the asmr as well. Bravo
Awesome. I have the same kit sitting in my parents garage since the late 80's. Going to give it a resto but with modern electronics.
Anything restored is just fantastic! Great that you could do this!
I bought two of those when they were new back in the 80's.. they were the beasts at the time... So much fun... I gave all my RC stuff to my eldest son which included a sand rail from that same company.. Tamiya.... I asked him about them a year or so back and if he still had those...and he said he stills has them... along with an RC boat from that same era that I had given him... So cool to see you cleaning that ole bad boy up..!! I remember I had custom gearing and shocks etc.. all the aftermarket parts you could buy...
Awesome job!
Nice ball polishing!
Super blackfoot was my first car lol. I loved that thing so much. Took it to a local speedway every Saturday at the mall to race it and find out it needed upgrades. Electric speed control, 13 triple motor, oil shocks, bearings, foam tires. Those were the days. Thank you for reminding me of this with a great rebuild 😏🤘
Sweet , another ASMR RC video !!
Gotta love no cheesy music!!
Great job, thank you
That was a walk down memory lane. I had a FROG which was the same chassis.
He has got a better memory than me
that and the frog were the original iconic rc cars. i have an original from from 1983
Awesome, I love the hilux as well!
Very nice job
Love the use of the Tamiya lug wrench 🔧
We need more rc resto
It seems that the Blackfoot was always that fan favorite. The original backyard basher. It was always the one that escaped me. I never got it but always wanted it. Upgrades galore and I can almost smell the roasted mechanical speed controller. A proper restoration. Nicely done!
Ah yes, glorious mechanical speed controllers.
This is as much fun as doing it yourself ! Great video and attention to detail. Thanks
This vid helped me on what to do in restoring my new bright ford truck thanks
Sooooo beautiful
great work🤘🖤
Personally if it were me restoring this truck I would have made it stock but, you do you man because it still looks good.
I mean all I changed was shocks and wheel bearings. Close enough to stock to keep me happy.
Nice resto. Best way to go is whack in a 2.4ghz receiver and a ESC. Gets rid of half the junk you have to put back in. Love the 1970's Soldering iron.
Thanks for explaining what each part is I appreciate that :)
Good job 👍
very good video to watch, thank for sharing your talent😄
I like this my car 😍😍😍
Man you did a great job on the restoration. Brought back lots of memories. Thanks
Super Arbeit grüsse aus germany.
Awesome video. THANKS👍.. I have my black foot....got it in 1990 & still running good...
Now that thing looks fun.
We had 2 of them. I finally sold them to a kid in a garage sale we had a couple years back. Both still worked.
I used to have one of these when I was a kid. Bought it 2nd hand at a yard sale. It was tons of fun. Great RC.
Золотые руки и голова. 👏👏👏
Great content very satisfying I love RC
Soap and vodka...one hell of a cleaner.
This video brought me so much joy. Doing something like this but with a Tamiya frog. Just need to paint the body and get a better drive train.
Комментарий в поддержку канала и ролика, а также труда мастера отреставрировавшего эту игрушку.
at least you had electronics and a body to work with lol.
very very good💪👍
It's really cool to fix it ❗❗❗
I remember this truck around 1990 i will be damn good memories play with R/C BIGFOOT TRUCK. AWE
GREAT job 🔥👍✌️
More rc restorations please.
Those Tamiya Blackfoot's are awesome RC trucks. I still have one in my collection of rc vehicles.
