    Mistake 6: You can't polish a turd - realize when it's time to start over 😉

    The 4th tip is very good and not well known for beginning producers! A tip: don't be afraid to go back to your vst too, not just effects. Sometimes the core of the kick is the biggest issue and you will need to change the parameters of pitch or so!

    Finally someone who addresses the facts about compression on a solo kick.

    The snare issue is obviously going to happen if you use the same snare, but I agree it’s totally unnecessary

    I do agree that compression is not in far most cases anything for a kick drum, especially not a hardstyle kick. But sometimes for sound designing of the attack, there is a distortion-EQ-chain that in between has attack-comp involved and when I discarded it the attack wasn’t as good anymore. It did create harmonics that responded well with the following dist. Putting and comp on a made kick or lastly is a great way to weaken it.

Rome wasn't built in a day! You can only always improve.

    How should you treat the sub in your hardstyle kick? What amount of sub is right for especially the tail but also the punch?

    • @Quant-Beat
      @Quant-Beat Год назад +1

      It’s a good question, and the answer is “expected for the genre for the time”. Because it’s a level of among far most, one should follow that. That doesn’t necessarily mean that their level (which is very similar to each other) is the best, but the market expects a certain level and the Dj won’t be happy tweaking around for one track / artist for the low end. If you take let’s say a Frontliner kick, you see mostly a 6 dB higher sub peak than the low mid peak. Look in an analyser, take a kick from someone you know have acceptance in the scene, commercially. That shall be a safe reference.

      @@Quant-Beat Thank you for your response, will do!

      @@VelocityMusic. Easy to forget but so important as one has to "fit in" so the audience and Dj has the same low-end from your track to the others. It is also difficult to only listen to your own sub amount then listen to a reference, because that might be in another key so your room can hide the true comparison. Look and listen, crucial for the sub-amount.

    I mean maybe use a different snare...

      Or create an attack from scratch in e.g. Serum: 1 saw wave->snappy pitch env (master pitch)-> vol env 10-15 ms-> distortion lin fold, mix 100%, vol ~50%-> eq high pass ~500hz, peak ~850hz, accentuate high end

      @@Max.ToneOfficial or just make it from the 909. A tok is 4 parts for me: first a very high frequency click, then a very resonant but short “tok” around 600 hertz (usually people mistakenly make this from a snare) then a low mid punch layered with a distorted mid range character. All that can be made from the distorted 909
