  • In today’s soft spoken male ASMR ramble I want to talk about something very important to me: IS IT OK NOT TO LIKE GAY? Although we live in a world where personal taste and preferences are almost banned, I think it absolutely is and I would love to know what you think about it

There is not “too much activism” in the LGBTQ+ community! I will agree that demanding respect while disrespect others online is not the “activism” we need though. Respect is all most of us want though and that is NEVER too much to ask for.

It’s okay to not relate to gay people and in turn not want to participate in some gay events and such but to not like homosexuality is odd. It’s not something to like or dislike it just is.

Sam, thank you for being brave and telling us things that are sometimes unpopular: that we, straight ppl, are sometimes forced not only to tolerate but also to love gay ppl. I do understand the dynamics of a pendulum: after years and years of hatred, LFBTQ+ ppl want to be loved, cherished and regarded as super special. And if they aren't given that, they tend to be a bit (or a lot) aggressive in their demands. Again, I love your way of thinking, your golden path of balance. ❤

What you described is politics though, the highlighting of underrepresented minority groups is a politically charged action in society. Progressives, like me fight for the rights of everyone while focusing on the most targetted people at the current moment for better or worse. At this moment its us queer people and racial/ethnic minorites facing direct targetting. Hope i was bale to make this as clear and understandable as possible.

Im sorry but this video is extremely misguided and the ability for you to have these opinions is back by the hard work of the gay and trans people eho came before you. It just comes of as a bit of a Pick Me mindset tbh. No offense 😒

I think I agree with you. Unfortunately, social media has created false realities for people where people cannot really understand that you don't need to be 100% surrounded by people who love and accept you all the time for society to function. Society functions due to difference. I think its good that there is some activism and awareness but the fear of "getting it wrong" also hinders progress, because it then becomes a hangup for vocal society which engenders negative feelings as people will harbour resentment due to that anxiety of getting it wrong. I do think in some respects the community (which I am part of) has swung too almost overcorrect for the intense historical hatred and fear "we" have lived in and that's not helpful either. I think we need to be striving for balance and not trying to push for something that could backfire (if that makes sense). I think we should definitely be looking to erradicate intolerance and bigotry but not everyone has to love us unconditionally, that's unrealistic. But treating each other as human? That's a realistic goal.

I agree with everything you've written and balance is indeed the end goal in my opinion, without forcing anything on anyone or without making anyone pay for what was done in the past as they have no control over that 💪

I think most people just want respect, but some people (usually younger people) tend to over-label themselves.

No gay person in the community wants strangers to come up to them in the street and congratulate them for being queer - that feels forced. And I disagree that people "don't have to like gay," I think that's fundamentally wrong. Disliking somebody for being gay is very telling of somebody's character. That's just my opinion though, and I respect yours

Very interesting yet complex topic, and I think you handled it flawlessly. I completely agree with you; I don't want to say that activism is going too far, but I've noticed that terms like homophobic and transphobic are gradually losing their meaning and impact due to constant unnecessary usage. Unfortunately, within the community, you can't even ask questions or express doubts about gender ideology, let alone criticize the Pride parade.
However, as an atheist, I believe everyone can say that they don't like "gay stuff" because we have our own cultural references and point of view. It's totally fine if someone doesn't like something, but I draw the line when religion is involved. I love having discussions on any kind of topic and exploring new perspectives, but when I hear something like "I don't like the gay lifestyle because the bible says so," I'm sorry, but I am not on your side with that. It's like talking to a brick wall. But, this is just my personal and biased opinion.
Maybe my skepticism comes from the fact that the LGBT community sometimes behaves like an actual cult, and that's why I experience so much friction with it.

@@newluix93 Thank you so much for your comment, Luigi, and sorry for my late but I was on holiday.
Yes, it's hard to even ask questions in the community or to express anything that goes against the grain (in fact, I wasn't 100% sure I should make this video at all). But there are quite a few brave people out there that do ask those questions and challenge the system. And there are more and more of them/us on RUclips, and I like the fact that most of them belong to the community themselves. So, hopefully, this will help steer us in a more balanced direction.
As for religion, it is a shame that it tends to blind people into not accepting us, BUT from personal experience I'm very happy to say that it's not always the case and religious people (in my case they are mainly catholic) can surprise you with how open-minded they are, and that's an incredible step forward. I have a feeling that those who are against being gay simply because the Bible says so are generally unaccepting people that let religion affect them negatively and their closed-mindedness applies to many aspects of life, and gyaness is just one of them

What you seem to be saying, Sam, is something I've often mused about: that you can acknowledge and respect without fervently cheerleading. It seems to be rather common with special interest groups to treat outsiders as either ardent fans or the Devil incarnate...no in between. Never have understood that approach, as it alienates potential, or even actual, allies...
As to the question "how to be respectful", the answer is surely in the question: the way to be respectful...is to be respectful!
