I'll never ever understand why there are so many many gays working in hospitality. I worked a horrible retail job in the 2000s and it has left a stain on my life that will never ever wash away. I'm glad you got out alive. Getting out of it was the best thing that ever happened to me.....PERIOD.

@@wutta-do5zy I'm sorry to hear you had as terrible an experience as I did 😱
At least here in London I don't think working in hospitality is related to being gay: it's mainly about making quick money while you study or, if you are a starving artist, after you graduate. Maybe retail has more gays because quite a few of us tend to like fashion. I've never worked in retail myself so I don't have any first-hand experience, but I can imagine it can be soul-crushing, too 😱

As a Starbucks employee this is painfully relatable 😂

Oh, I've forgotten. Would you share your abstinence from alcohol thing? If it isn't too personal of course.

@@D.C.1 of course! There is no trauma or drama related to it so it's very easy for me to talk about it. It should come out in a couple of weeks 😊

You are a beautiful man. I wonder why you didn't try modeling? Working in the hospitality field is NOT easy. Working for certain companies results in a different outcome. I was a former model and then I bartended. I had to wear black tie attire and make and serve cocktails. It added to my resume, but not my spirits. It was a great career building move, but it sucked every shift. However, with that on my resume, it opened up plenty of opportunities. I quickly learned that the most money was found in bars....aka dance bars. I had to put up with a lot, but the money at the end of the night was enough for me to keep doing it.

@@gwgrote5 When I trained as an actor, I did consider modelling as well, but I quickly realised it wasn't for me because, as vain as I am, I don't like having my picture taken, not even in normal life. I don't even take selfies. And I don't like or can't pose. So, unfortunately, modelling wouldn't have worked for me as I don't think I would have been good and it would have made me very uncomfortable 😔 but I definitely wish I liked it.
I have great respect for bartenders as I think it's even more intense than being a waiter. Bartending wouldn't be for me, I'm afraid. I don't even drink so I would have to learn everything from scratch and I don't like the fast and relentless pace of it. Well done for sticking with it because I certainly would not have been able to! Also, from what I hear, bartenders in London tend to be paid very little unless they work for very sophisticated and exclusive companies, which wouldn't be the setting I'd be looking for. It's interesting how some people prefer waitering, others retail and others being behind the bar

In the US you can get a bartending license three years before you’re legally allowed to drink lol
