As someone who owns a Weber kettle with a Spider Venom I can honestly say after 100's of cooks that the Venom is a absolute beast, and I can control it from anywhere, my sister lives down the street from me and I always go down to her house while I'm smoking a pork butt or ribs and can control the grill and check the temperature while I'm away. $750 IMO is a great price for this grill. The Venom itself is $200.
Not for nothing, Spiders’ support is excellent. I’ve emailed several times for questions related to my spider-22 pellet attachment and always get a prompt response. If I didn’t already have a Summit, I’d get this.
Thanks for reviewing this. When Spider announced this, I had just received my Summit Kamado the weekend before. The WSK is heavier duty than the Weber 26" Kettle and has a 24" cooking grate, this is thicker gauge. The vortex for the 22" and 26" works perfectly with the WSK. The WSK has the vent in the center so when doing wings with a vortex, you do not need to spin your lid around. If I needed something on a budget, I'd probably get the WSM 22". This is an intriguing option tho
I honestly think you made the right choice and will have zero regrets. The WSK has a dual wall construction which will decrease the fuel usage and stabilize the temps. This spider looks cheap to me (lots of nuts and bolts on the exterior) and only time will tell how it will hold up. Yes, you have to wait on the accessories to maximize the "potential" of this grill. I hope Tom gets a WSK to give a review on it. For my money is WSK all the way.
In my opinion this might be the best grill built within in the last 20yrs and the price is not too bad considering it built like a tank. Now if they could come up with a way to use pellets as well that would be outstanding. Great review as always Tom. Cheers from Trinidad & Tobago 🇹🇹
For that much, I'd just get another BGE. Mine is 20 years old and my go-to for smoking and grilling. The large is big enough for 4 chickens on vertical roasters or a 17 lb turkey. Super efficient (18 hour cooks with coals left over) and holds temp without "accessories" (I do occasionally use a Smobot for remote monitoring and damper control, no fans needed).
Your comment is a moot point. The Huntsman and BGE are not apples to apple comparison. Wow! Your BGE can hold temps for 18 hours without a fan. This is a product for people who do want a fan. At 22” the huntsman’s comparison would be the XL BGE. Very different price point. This product isn’t an attack on your BGE. It is simply a different product with different features that may or may not appeal to you. I drive a Honda but I certainly don’t spend my time and energy wondering why people would ever choose to drive something different.
@@chadh983 LOL. Irrelevant comment? Are they not both charcoal fired grill / smokers? I'm just sharing my experience, take it or leave it. I think the Huntsman is a pretty good looking grill. Built to last at a price point. The BGE has been the best return on investment of any grill/smoker I've ever purchased. If it ever got damaged I'd most definitely replace it with another one. Kinda like Honda buyers...
I used the Spider grill on my 22" weber, and the internal case that holds the electronics, melted, and it became inoperative! I don't know why the picked plastic? Why not Bakelite? Much more durable. Fortunately, they sent a replacement. I have to design a sheild that absorbs heat before it radiats to the Spider, and try to physically isolate the spider from the grill.
Thanks for watching Doug! I’ve used mine on Weber 22 dozens of times for low and slow and hot and fast without issue. Curious as to how this could happen since it sits outside the grill and well below the charcoal grate
It kills me that this is the same size as Weber kettle. I currently use a Kettle and a 22" WSM. The Huntsman doesn't solve the issue of needing more space compared to the kettle, which is why I have a WSM. I love the Idea, but it's not practical to replace my setup
Very interesting. Seems like the Huntsman is an auto Kamado like the Acorn Auto Kamado. It's biggest advantage is the easy access to the burning fuel area in case more needs to be added after a while. I don't know if the Acorn unit is still sold. The last time I looked it was half to 2.3rds the price of the Huntsman.
Tom can we get a video of you trying more Weber accessories with it? I’d love to figure out an indirect setup that still let you top up the coal through the door
Tom your the best in informing us in products. I enjoy the way you explain everything. This spider gill is amazing and can’t wait to buy one!!!!!🙏🙏🙏. Again thanks 😊 😎😎😎
Great review pointing out all the details that is important. Ive been watching this thing ever since the launch and now its time for you to cook on it and need to see more how it performs when it matters not as a demo...
Yeah, gonna need the diffuser, but nothing wrong with that. They're a small company, they probably didn't want to wait for the diffuser. I bet even a flimsy aluminum oval or some cheap sheet metal would do wonders. I have an 18" pizza stone, hmm, a couple of fire bricks...
I think that's a good deal for the money. I have a Weber summit and like it a lot. The WSK is crazy efficient. Takes very little airflow to keep temp. There's some opinions out there that more airflow is better for smoking. And that's probably right.
Thanks for a very in depth review of a grill I've never seen or heard of before. It's a great looking grill and the esthetics are right up my alley. I'd love to see a grill like this that would run off of rechargable "tool like" batteries.
Thanks for Watching! As it does,,, like I said Spider Grills will give you a free battery when you order the Huntsman using the code I provided. Did you not watch the video?
Thanks for the review. I've seen several videos from the company on this grill. It looks very solid. I personally am not a fan of the 22" kettle style. When you do indirect that leaves you little surface area. If you like that style, this seems like a great premium option.
Tom, Would you, can you use the Snake method or Minion method with the Huntsman grill? Or are you supposed to just dump a pile of lump and briquettes in the hopper along with flavored wood??
Great video as usual Tom! I've been looking forward to this one since I pre ordered the huntsman early and have been using a venom for about 6 months or so and love it! I still have and love my grills but this one called to me! like a weber on steroids! I also appreciate the free battery brother! saved me some coin in this tough economy I can put towards some meat to grill! cheers and happy grilling sir!
Every router Wi-Fi has a 2.4ghz and a 5ghz. The reason spider grills is using a 2.4 frequency is because the range goes much farther than a 5ghz. You have a 2.4ghz as well. The reason you can’t connect the spider grill to the app is because both of your Wi-Fi frequencies have the same name. Easy fix, just log into your Wi-Fi router and split the networks. Make the 5ghz a different name then the spider grills will see the app in your phone. Also when you say 5G, that’s referring to cell service speed not your home Wi-Fi. Hope this helps

I purchased the Spider Venom based on your review and it works AWESOME! However my WiFi does not work either and it appears even with this new product they HAVE NOT fixed this issue. I've had my Venom for almost a year now so my question is how long does it take to resolve the WiFi issue when other companies have fixed theirs? I feel Spyder is far above their competition except for this one matter they fail!

Thanks for watching Alan! I did email them on this, hopefully I’ll get a reply
Cook a pizza on that bad boy Tom!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for watching! It’s on the list
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ that’s great to hear…
How many BBQ do you need?
Thanks for watching! Lol
Didn't see where to put the code when checking out at spider's website
When you check out, you add the battery to your purchase and then put HORSMAN in the discount code box and the battery is free. Thanks for Watching
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ I also don't see a place to put the code during checkout. Added battery and Huntsman full payment, no place for coupon code for the battery. Created an account as well, still not there.
@AdzeCO Thanks for watching, just email them, the directions I posted in the description came straight from Spider Grills. I’ve had others tell me that they didn’t have an issue ordering
I don't see it either. I'm guessing they pulled it?
Scratch that. I followed the instructions of the user a few comments above, and clicked on Checkout from the popup, and that worked like a charm.
I wonder if there is a way to get the free battery pack if I've already ordered and paid for mine
Thanks for Watching! You could email them and ask….
fishing doc, def send an email with your order # and explaining youve already preordered and watched toms video and provide the code. i just sent an email and within 10 minutes i had a tracking number with package on the way! such great customer service!!
Thanks for Watching! Good to know that it works
Where do you put the code in I can't find a place for it and can't find contact info for spider grills
Thanks for Watching! They tell me it’s there, I will email them
I was able to get it to work. It doesn't show up if you go to checkout from the cart. But it will show up if you go to checkout from the pop up after you add something. Have to play around with it a little. Add and subtract to get it correct and have the discount code box show up at checkout.
Ok, thanks, I did ask them to take a look, I’ll pass on what you experienced, Thanks
zamzam water
They made you pay for it??
lol, yes I paid for it, my choice, that’s why it’s an Honest Review….Thanks for Watching
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ cool, i was suspicious as you called it a Horsman and not Huntsman at the end of the video lol
@paulwarner5700 Thanks for watching Paul! Lol….
Awesome, well, build unit! Love the charcoal door! But for the price, my Auto Komado is 2 years old and going strong! Bought mine for $159 .
