😆 I did the same thing for a long time, and someone did a hit and run on my lexus. Now I used that money, and I got an FJ Cruiser! Once I pay it off, I'll be looking to upgrade, and this bumper that we've been eyeballing might be mine! It could be yours too one day!
I am not a fan of removing the OEM bumpers as of right now, but this rear bumper is super nice and I love the additional gas can holder as well. I'm sure if I installed one on my own it would take me a year to get it on lol.
haha... I'm with you that it is important to think about why you are changing out a bumper. Better departure angle, ability to carry fuel, location for a hi-lift jack, or ability to rack a large tire are all good but make sure you plan to use them... BTW: we have a Metal Tech front bumper because we wanted the protection up-front, better approach angle and ability to mount a winch but we have still run with an OEM rear bumper... although we have had to replace a number those "self-ejecting" rear bumper wings :-)
The idea is so the oversized spare wheel does not rip the mounts from the door, and also wear out the door hinges, the extra weight will accelerate the wear, I had a 35" spare on my Landrover Defender rear door, it went through the hinges in a matter of months, the Landy was ten years old to start with so wear was already happening. So I went for an all singing all dancing combi bumper spare wheel Hi Lift jack two jerry cans a water carrier with shower attachment and short wave aerial mount, all this after I Bobtailed it so not much overhang. Hope this answers your question Marcus Velasquez.

Great bumper, planning on getting one. I do have a question. What do you do if you have backup sensors? Are they no longer used? Disconnected? Or is there a way to continue to use them?
The bumper does incorporate the backup sensors. This FJC just didn't have them so couldn't show. Give Metal Tech a call (or email) and they can let you know the steps.
Hey Thanks for getting back so quickly! I am going to start putting away some coin to get this bumper! Thanks again! I will set up an account at the website!
+Fred 79 yes, Metal Tech 4x4 has an option for FJ Cruisers with backup cameras. Give them a call. They are great guys and happy to help you get all the info you need to make sure their bumper is right for you.
The rear bumper is a nice bit of kit, but I did not like the lack of spacer tubes on the long mounting bolts, also no locking nuts either nyloc or split pin or R-clips, as he did not use threadloc on any of the standard nut's and bolts. As the only criticism all together a nice bumper.
POPPASHANGO it does not even though their website says it will. You will need to remove the OEM hitch and buy a center-mount hitch as the bumper bolts into the frame where the hitch bolts on.
great question... I'm going to suggest you ask Metal Tech 4x4 that question. It has been a while and they may have change the attachment method. I don't want to give you bad info.
Good question... I've not heard of any plans to add that option but Give Metal Tech 4x4 a call and they can tell you if it is even possible based on the swing arm specs.
Last Great Road Trip unfortunately im not from the states , from South Africa . I will have to search around for a place where I would be able to get something like this , luckily the FJ is still produced in SA so here ought to be a place
Not yet.... but the Red Eye 2 was patterned after the Pegasus, Lexus GX470 rear bumper and the install is very similar (ruclips.net/video/AqoUvquepDk/видео.html)
emilio trench those are NATO style cans. They are not available new in the USA. The owner had gone up to Canada and found a couple at a surplus store and brought them back with him.
Just started watching the video and noticed that he chose the world's most noise maker tires humanly possible for the road..... Many Many better alternatives out there now...
If you have questions about it's legality give a call over to Metal Tech and chat. You can talk directly to the design engineer. They are a great crew.
Additional gas tanks , it's already got a 160 Lt standard tank already in the truck , why would you want to carry more fuel , water I can understand , but fuel
a lifted, heavily load truck can drag MPG way down and then if you are staying in 4WD the hole time on the trail it goes down further. No one wants to wants to run dry in the middle of no where and 100 miles to the closest town.
@@lastgreatroadtrip My FJ gets me 1700 Klms , I spend a lot of time in the bush never needed any more fuel ever , I could nearly drive from Melbourne to Perth without refueling
+Marcos Velasquez this looks like a good one to answer. If you are running 35" tires they will not fit on the OEM tire mount but it will fit on on many swing outs. and you're right... some just like the looks, along with a place to care fuel cans.
Sorry don't know that one... not my truck. Loaned for the install video. Go over to the fjcruiserforums.com and search wheel tire combo and you get threads with pictures and descriptions for tons of combos. Great resource.
........ well this soy boy has seen too many people cut a tendon on their thumb. its a a real thing. more like when. not if. theres always a time when its going to snag and drag. but keep it up. take your guards off. im sure you wont ever be a statistic.
Phlem Phlam got to fill the silence with something :-) but that may be an experiment gone bad... we've moved to other music for the credits in newer videos but there is only so much CC stuff out there. BTW: love the avatar! and that you watched to the end :-)
When you lift your rig you more than likely also get a bigger set of rims and tires, the FJ's stock tire carrier will not accommodate for them. That is why
No PPE gear: safety glasses, gloves, guard for grinder, using grinder with one hand instead of two. Do your projects well and professionally especially if you are mentoring others. Train them well to do their projects not to become statistics.
I don't understand why the FJ is so popular for off-roading, the visibility from the drivers perspective is terrible. You'd be better off with an older 4 runner or Jeep surely?
***** Why to people wheel FJC... because they can :-) but really they are reliable and capable right out of the box (e-Locer, A-trac, crawl). The visibility isn't as bad as some would say, you need to know where your corners are and line your mirrors up correct... but they are not perfect either... a bit wide if you wheel tight trails and not as much room as a 4Runner. But much cheaper then equally equipted 4Runners of same year. And of course people either just love the hell out of em... or hate em.
geez maggeez lots of bolts to take care of. I'm sure its not that hard to install but looks like a pain in the dick with 17,000 bolts to look after. I'll pass for a more plug and play bumper not a jigsaw of ten parts bumper.
Thanks for the reply! I love LGRT videos on the fj. It has helped me a lot. I changed my front and rear diff and transfer case oil with your help. Next is to drop the oil pan and change that filter out. Any videos on that??
+brian dejesus We run an MT so unless someone we know lets us know when they do Transmission maintenance we probably won't have an opportunity to video it.
The door no longer carries the weight. The bumper carries the weights of the larger tire, gas cans and other accessories. The truck's frame carries the bumper... how it should be :-)
6 years later I'm watching this video, goes to show the FJ issa classic. Awesome video
I agree... the FJC is destined to be a classic.
I don't even have an FJ and yet I'm watching this for the second time. What's become of my life?
haha...
😆 I did the same thing for a long time, and someone did a hit and run on my lexus. Now I used that money, and I got an FJ Cruiser! Once I pay it off, I'll be looking to upgrade, and this bumper that we've been eyeballing might be mine! It could be yours too one day!
Not only is that an awesome bumper but this is probably one of the best instructional videos I've ever seen. Great Job Guys!
Thanks Greg glad you liked it
Nice
I remember seeing your rig at the FJ Summit several years ago.
I am not a fan of removing the OEM bumpers as of right now, but this rear bumper is super nice and I love the additional gas can holder as well. I'm sure if I installed one on my own it would take me a year to get it on lol.

Great video as usual from LGRT I've never even considered replacing the rear bumper till now. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanks for the kind word!
That's a nice bumper out there.
Thanks for the tips.
Glad you liked it. thanks for the note.
Still my favorite swingout for the FJ. Definitely love mine! So much sexiness
It does scream cool... thanks for the note.
I like the idea of heavy-duty bumpers. For me it would be in case someone looking at their phone while driving bumps into my FJ.
Thanks man you inspire me to do more modifications to my fj
careful... it's a slippery slop :-)
Sweet bumper. Love the chick singing at the end.
finally a new video! that was a good one
Thank YOU!

8:54 those factory welds look like crap
Would this be possible with the back up camera?
I love this bumper, but I have 2014 FJ with backup camera, Does this bumber come with this option?

Muy interesante tengo un mueble parecido.
Get some wide fenders to cover the wheels and you got an amazing looking rig.
Wheel spacers are bad get offset rims instead.... I do like the modified fender flares
Professional work
Whats about the rearme coil springs with the extra weight?...
Looks great! Thanks for the video! Do you hace any problems now with the rear window?
Give Metal Tech 4x4 a call to talk through any questions you have. They are really nice and love to answer questions about their gear.
its nice ....but too much load
I hear you... it is a lot. but on the Rubicon or Baja you'll be carrying all that somewhere in/on the truck.
Hi mate, nice bumper... I like the rims though, what's the maker and where to get it?
Rayan Alhazmi sorry not our truck for this install so not sure on the wheels.
I am thinking of adding this bumper to my build list. Will this bumper work with the factory tow hitch assembly?
+POPPASHANGO I believe it does but give Metal Tech 4x4 a call just to make sure.
POPPASHANGO it does not even though their website says it will. You will need to remove the OEM hitch and buy a center-mount hitch as the bumper bolts into the frame where the hitch bolts on.
Thanks for the info! I may just delete the hitch as I have yet to use it in any instance.
really this is a good work and I wish if you install it on my car
Ibrahim Othman glad you like the video. Love hearing from folks so thank you for your comment.
How Much are these and is there a kit for the license plate mount and lights?
Thanks for the question. The kit comes with a license mount... Give Metal Tech 4x4 a call for all the details.
nice Good work
Thank you.
OMG 3:19 safety definitely not first!
Don't worry, they don't hire soy boy pussy's who can't handle a grinder. SMMFH!
Good idia
Hello how are the Jerry cans attached thankyou
great question... I'm going to suggest you ask Metal Tech 4x4 that question. It has been a while and they may have change the attachment method. I don't want to give you bad info.
I wonder if it would be possible to have 2 tyres at the back ??
Good question... I've not heard of any plans to add that option but Give Metal Tech 4x4 a call and they can tell you if it is even possible based on the swing arm specs.
Last Great Road Trip unfortunately im not from the states , from South Africa . I will have to search around for a place where I would be able to get something like this , luckily the FJ is still produced in SA so here ought to be a place
Good luck. They do ship world wide but that shipping cost might hurt :-)
Are there any videos of the red eye 2 installation?
Not yet.... but the Red Eye 2 was patterned after the Pegasus, Lexus GX470 rear bumper and the install is very similar (ruclips.net/video/AqoUvquepDk/видео.html)
Will this fit if I have custom fit bushwacker flares?
I believe so but giver Metal Tech 4X4 a call just to make sure and they will be happy to answer any other questions you have. They are great guys.
Lovely this is fine good looking jeep you are okay keep it up
its a toyota more reliable than a jeep
Great!
That’s amazing man
From where can I buy that’s parts
For my car
Please
And thanks you again
Check Metal Tech 4x4. Their website should have everything you're looking for
Last Great Road Trip
thanks for the help. I really appreciate it
What about obscuring the license plate?
The plate relocated to the fuel can carrier.
nice 1!
Thank you...
What do I have to do if I have a backup cam?
Metal Tech has a mount for the backup camera.
Nice so super
Thank you so much
I cry when I hear this song ='(
What brand are the two green gas cans?
emilio trench those are NATO style cans. They are not available new in the USA. The owner had gone up to Canada and found a couple at a surplus store and brought them back with him.
You can't put gas in a green can (at least not in the USA)
Just started watching the video and noticed that he chose the world's most noise maker tires humanly possible for the road..... Many Many better alternatives out there now...
I believe they are OFF-road tires
Is that street legal? It looks like it completely obscures the rear view mirror.

Cruiser are the most awesome vehicles..... I'll never part with mine....
I'm with you on that one... still love my FJ Cruiser after 11 years and hope to hang onto it for a long, long, long time.
what size is the fuel can?

what's the whole point of having an aftermarket swing arm other than looks?

+Last Great Road Trip thanks for answering never thought about the whole Tire size lol
Looks like trying to assemble an Ikea dresser.
haha
So basically youre buying "end caps" a cover and tire swing for your rear? Exposing the rear body....seems a little steep price for that?!
Thx for your thoughts
+Last Great Road Trip oh I still am going to get one, I guess I just didn't realize it.
What kind of rims
Sorry don't know that one... not my truck. Loaned for the install video. Go over to the fjcruiserforums.com and search wheel tire combo and you get threads with pictures and descriptions for tons of combos. Great resource.
no gloves and no guard on the grinder.. lovely
