I'm sure its been said, but Danny is called the Octopus of the drummer world. He's easily considered one of the best drummers of all time (debates to be had about genres and periods, but I think this speaks for itself)
True about Danny being one of the best, but Horacio Hernandez (El Negro) is the octopus and you can see why if you check him out
@@hshura09 no disagreement - I think its fine to have octopuses across genres :) that's why its really impossible to have a GOAT in music, really.
@@hshura09 Danny actually reminds me of a viper. The speed and power in such economical movement, his perfect poise. He's mesmerizing to watch closely.
I agree with you but for some reason I go back and forth with Danny and Jimmy Chamberlain.
I'm a huge Rush fan, and for a long time, I would've called Neil Peart the GOAT. But I think Danny has surpassed him...and that's ok, and I'm cool with that. And I think Neil would be cool with that, because it's a case of the student becoming the master. Danny learned by listening to Neil, and I think Neil would be proud that Danny is taking the craft to even higher heights.
Yes, and of course Danny's study of percussion has drawn from several drummers and percussionists across many genres and cultures. But Neil has always been at the core of his style.
I have a feeling you may cry with joy at their concert
Dont need to be at this concert dude. Im crying in front of my shitty screen..
Don't shame yourself! It's no sin to momentarily forget Neil Peart's name when you're neck-deep in the backend of an increasingly climaxing Danny Carey drum solo. We've all been there.
To be fair, it's one of the only times where it's forgivable to forget haha.
Hell, I've forgotten MY name during some of these.
Danny's drumsticks look like hummingbird wings in his hands. ✌
The involuntary smiles that Danny's playing creates is one of the biggest reasons I keep coming back to these reaction videos
The keyboard is called a marimba lumina and he plays it during the song Invincible. The electronic drum pads that Danny uses are called Mandala pads that he co-produced himself. The other electronic drum is called a Korg Wavedrum. He'll probably wear a Karl Malone jersey to SLC. Unless he has a Gobert or Mitchell jersey. I'm seeing Tool in Miami where I expect to see him in a DWade jersey.
You know, I've seen them three times in SLC, and I never bothered to check whose number he wears. Seeing them again in Jan, so I'll have to pay attention this time.
I wish I could experience Tool again for the first time. They were my dad’s favorite band. Every time I hear this song, I feel a part of him watching me. You’re spot on in them being very spiritual.
I have a teenage daughter with your name who will likely one day say the same thing about me.
Where is An Idiot Abroad? Who carres about these boring videos?
@@user-tf4lk4fm7i if you're overseas from me, i'd consider you an idiot abroad.
I have a close friend, and her dad's favorite band was also Tool. He passed away weeks before being able to seem them live, so she took his photo with her when she went to see them. She sent me a photo of them together, so when I went to see Tool here in Berlin, he was able to see it with me. He's now traveling with me as I see several concerts this year.
Danny Carey is amazing, but lets not forget Mr. Sebs keeping the constant 4/4 on a treadmill throughout the song.
Neil Peart is the drummer for Rush. May he Rest In Peace. Danny actually says at every awards show appearance that he thanks Neil by name every time. I can’t wait till after your concert experience and hear what you have to say. It’s a spiritual journey. Visual effects are out of this world. I’m guessing you should probably do a TOOL reaction a day so you can know what to expect. Great reaction as always
Yes, this.
TooL is complete in the live performance. You get to visually and sonically immerse into them. There's this symbiosis that takes place if you're into it.
Like a sort of sensory amplification tank.
Fragment into motes and spiral out.
This really gives you a new appreciation for these artists. They've mastered their craft. The art that creative, dedicated humans can create.... Incredible!
And even at the level that Danny plays, he still doesn't take a step back and think how good he is. He just keeps sharpening his blade.
It makes my heart happy to see we have converted yet another! Welcome to the Tool Army!! We are mighty!! 🖤
The best part to me is watching how much fun Danny is having! We all wonder how he does it, while he makes it look easy!!!
It is fitting that this song includes the lyric "Eyes full of wonder" It was great to watch you live that lyric.
That last part gets me everytime
What's next? Try H. It's a beautiful song about growing up and becoming a parent for the first time.
That's where talent and dedication can get you, what an inspiration
That big keyboard behind Danny is a synthesizer that he stands up and plays. It's called a Virus.
Actually it's called a Marimba Lumina.
Lol, love that you were so confident, having been trolled about the name. Typical tool info.
Yeah I saw him play it Leap Year night last year.
@@dan.j.boydzkreationz , please clarify your statement as to which name of the instrument you're refering to. So there is no confusion.
@@jeffmatthews6672 It's what I've heard and it's what I said. Had no idea it was called that so the more you know.
I was introduced to tool and opened myself to their music just a couple of months ago and ever since I feel the need and hunger for it and to share it is so good. Multidimensional feelings
This is one of the best Live Videos of any band I've ever seen. Big shout out to Vic Firth for having this video produced and edited this way.
Danny is one of the scariest beings on the planet. Not just because he's 9,000 years old, AND STILL JACKED
It's his mind. It's terrifying. Watch the beginning. He shifts around until his spine is in place. Once it is, his shoulders hardly ever move. Once he's locked in, the tentacles go to work. I see why they call him The Octopus.
I think you're ready for a back to back listening. Either listen to the two version of "Pushit" they have (original on Aenima album, self cover on the Salival album) OR listen to Wings for Marie followed by 10,000 days (2 part song off the album 10,000 days). They get into the more experimental side of TOOL more like Pneuma than Aenima.
Great suggestions
Pushit is my favorite child of Tool, the live version even better. That whole salival album is 🔥, I'm definitely pushing for the Maynard's Mom saga also
this right here!!!! Hes right, you know?!?!
Wings for Marie 1 and 2 make me cry every time. He will need to listen to Perfect Circle- Judith for the trifecta!
@Big Homie Steve The Metal Head There are other APC/Puscifer songs about Maynard's mom, Momma Sed, probably Orestes, I'm sure there are others.
Thank you so much for watching this with us! I really hoped you would! Im glad to see that im not the only one that FEELS these songs, and gets the emotion. I love seeing you try to hold back the emotion in some, if not most,of these songs. TOOL is one of very few bands that hits me in one way or another almost every listen. And ive been a fan since about 1994-1995, when i first watched the video for SOBER. I was hooked immediately. Something so dark, yet so enlightening at the same time. Love it! Keep it up! Spiral Out!!!
We share your joy in watching a master loving what he does.
"How do they invoke such sentimentalism?'
By pouring their pneuma into it.
Be. Prepared. For an intense visceral experience. They are true masters of their craft - mentally, visually, sonically.
Yes! I was waiting for this one! 🖤 Danny is an absolute legend 🖤🐙🐐
It's awesome that you're going to see them live! I'm seeing them in March. This is my advice to prep before the show. React to the following songs off of Fear Inoculum, because they will be paying them. Invincible, Fear Inoculum, maybe Descending and 7empest. This is so you can be singing along when you're there. Can't wait for this to change your life.
And it will! Ive seen them 7 times, and I cant wait to make it 8! and 9! and 10!
@16:01 I agree...I can see how much you love what you do!!! I know it is cliche and has been said over and over again... But I do wish I could experience this live cam video again for the first time. I love seeing how Danny's playing is mesmerizing you... I was the same way when I first saw this. As a muscian myself, I noticed the crazy polyrhythms and the ease of how he changes time signatures throughout the song. I can't wait to see your next reaction my dude!
I was 23 when I saw them live the first time, and at my most recent one, I was 42.
Wonder if I'll ever see them again...
This is the one I've been waiting for. Hope you enjoy this work of art, that this 60 year old magician, puts on
Edit: Neil Peart is the Rush drummer btw.
I’m excited for you to experience them live. It will change your life! See you there 🌀🤘
I have been lucky enough to watch Neil Peart with Rush live in concert, Dave Grohl with Nirvana live in Concert, and a few others who are considered great, and having also seen Danny Carey live and in concert with TOOL and in a Pub playing with friends of his I can honestly say Danny is the GOAT. RIP Neil Peart and I’m sure he looks down from heaven and says yea that Carey boy can play.
Beautiful homage
In his rider, he has the arena provide him a jersey from the team which plays in/closest to where they are playing. This was in Boston. When he plays in Salt Lake, he will have a Jazz jerzy with number of Malone or Stockton.
His default choices are the Lakers, his favorite pro team and the Kansas Jayhawks where he grew up. Both times I've seen them in Vegas he was rocking the KU gear.
Sebs! its so fun watching you love and appreciate the song as well as the musicianship. Also the fact that you are going to be seeing them live makes me vicariously happy. This band is what I've been listening throughout 2021 and made me appreciate music in a whole new way. Watching you in awe of the music makes me excited. Cheers man!
Danny was a basketball prospect at Kansas U, however he chose to go to LA and pursue his musical dream, Tool is a very big band so they play all of the NBA arenas in North America, so he gets a custom uniform from every team when they play those arenas...this video was shot in Boston...hence the Bird jersey, he wore an Allen Iverson Jersey the next night in Philly and he wore his cousins Kansas U jersey in AC New Jersey two nights later....it's pretty badass
That "I'd hit it" comment caught me off guard! Damn that was funny!!
YESSSSSSSSS IVE BEEN WAITING TY
I’m so happy and excited for you getting to see them live. Prepare to have mind blown🤯. Spiral Out!
Tomas Haake "Clockworks" Drum play through is a good one to check out
I’m 44 years old and got hooked on reaction videos about a year or 2 ago. I was wondering why. It occurred to me that people like you (who find true joy in discovering the bands I love) are reacting how I wish my friends & family would when I try to show them.
So thank you for filling that void ❤️
Danny is the king of polyrythms and those electronic pad he's playing are called Mandala Pads
I can’t count how many times I’ve seen your reaction to Danny Carey drum cam . When I saw your smile and excited I almost cried because I have the same ! saw this drum cam milion times and every reaction on it on yt, I have never enough . You are my favourite ! Fear innoculum is a masterpiece . The best album ever . Greetings from Poland ❤️
I am thankful for this reaction. You're seeing them in SLC in January? I'm seeing them January 11th @ the Tacoma Dome. This will be my 6th time seeing them live. I was meant to see them May 14, 1992 @ the Outhouse in Lawrence, KS but went into labor and gave birth to my daughter instead. ❤
Danny is a die hard Lakers fan. Ran into him at Pavilions on Pacific Coast and he had a #8 Kobe jersey. The reason he has on. A Celtic uniform is because Danny wears the cities basketball teams best players uni during the concert there. In Philadelphia he wears an Iverson uni, Atlanta Dominique, Boston Larry Bird which in this case the team his name Carey on the jersey. He lives in Malibu so he runs around town only in Laker gear.
Much love! Hope you had an amazing holiday and now the count down begins until the show! Have a blast man. Thanks for your reactions.
Just thinking about going to the show in February makes me wanna cry im so happy lol.
Welcome to the army! I'm so excited for you to see them man! Tool becomes part of you and you're a better person for it! You have to be my favorite reactor now, watching your transformation into a fan was awesome to see in real time
So glad I found this channel
Sebs! Just an inspiring person and as a lifelong Tool fan it's such a great experience to witness your appreciation for these guys! God Bless and look forward to watching you enjoy the ride....
Love your reaction to this!! Enjoy the show you will!!!
The symbols on the trigger pads are called Unicursal Hexagrams, made "popular" by the early 20th century occultist Aleister Crowley. Danny is a well-known practitioner of the occult and is a huge "fan" of Crowley. And of course, he is an AMAZING drummer!
Been waiting for this one. Great video
Watching you grow and evolve is awesome. Great reaction to tool. You’re lucky you have all the albums to go through and at your disposal I had to wait years in between albums. Keep them coming.
I have been waiting for you to watch this.
Just found your channel today and binged ALL your videos, love your insight and attention to detail. Keep it up man!
I can’t wait to hear about your first Tool concert. I’m sooooo excited for you!!! I’m seeing them in January in Denver for my 14th time…it gets better every time!!
Man, you're fortunate to get the opportunity to see them. I wasn't able to when they came to NC in 2019, and I'm hoping they won't wait *too* long before coming back around.
You must do Descending. That song is the cinematic score for the ultimate battle of good vs evil on a galactic scale. Highly overlooked in reactions. My favorite by far. Justin Chancellor's fav as well.
The keyboard thing behind him is used on a Fear Inoculum song. Can’t remember which one… I think Descending.
Also the symbol on the drum pads are also the name of the drum pads. Mandala. And they’re special because different spots create different sounds. Which is unusual. Designed in conjunction with him.
Flying from eastern Canada to Ohio in March to see this man. This band in concert is going to be a spiritual event. Enjoy!
That drum cam is my favorite video on the internet.
watched it MANY times.
Loving watching this journey with you, my friend
This has to be the best example of perfect drumming on RUclips. I’ve watched this video 50x of Danny and counting
im going to see them for the 3rd time in Feb. in DC. cant wait! you WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED
So glad you have the opportunity to see Tool live! I think you are in for a life changing/mind altering experience! I will be seeing them in February at the arena in Orlando!
I've WATCHED THIS 500 TIMES AND I STILL GET JACKED UP LIKE I DID THE FIRST TIME!! DC IS JUST MAGNIFICENT!!!! HE IS THE MASTER OF HIS CRAFT!!! TRULY THE HUMAN OCTOPUS!!!!!
glad you plan on seeing them live. enjoy your holiday and i look forward to your reaction to Eulogy.
one of my favorite videos... they slapped a go pro on every angle they could for this.... i love how their music live is as perfect as the album versions. been a tool nerd for 20 years
here I am watching this reaction for the second time, I love your reaction bro, thanks.. 🤘...
You will have even more appreciation for the music once you see them live. I will see them in January in SoCal for the 3rd time this tour...2x's at Staples Center and now Honda Center. I have seen Tool ever tour but one since Lollapalooza at Shoreline Amphitheater in 1993 and I am amazed every time...!!!! Enjoy the Top Shelf sir..!!!!
I'm thankful to be here enjoying this with everyone. Every single time that I watch that drum cam I think - "that's not even human! How does he do that? I don't understand!" 🤯 Happy Thanksgiving!
I cannot wait to hear your reaction to the concert.
Saw them 2weeks ago in Sacramento at aftershock. One of the best. This song is awesome live.
SebsDuran
This is coming to become a Tool reaction channel!
I enjoy watching you become a fan!
And many others will/have as well. I've been a fan since 5th or 6th grade, now 39.
I've watched this performance 100's of times. Caught the live show 1/29/20 Nashville, before covid. And watching, again, with you, is the first time I (you) noticed the Larry jersey with his name on it. 🤷♂️
I'm goin to see em live in Jan too here in AZ! So excited! Gonna be my first time experiencing a live show on a "higher wavelength" if you catch my drift haha gonna be an amazing time!
Excellent choice! Such a cool video.
New sub, Pneuma is also my fav. It's my lullaby. My brother is 67 and still drums, 2-3 gigs a week!!
i cant wait to see them live, i was planning on going before the pandemic and now that they are back again and going to San Diego, the border is closed and my visa got expired.
I had the pleasure of being at this show. As well as two others on this tour. 12 in total since I was 17.
Danny looks Awesome❤
I love these videos! Subbed for TOOL!
Can’t wait to see them in a few weeks too @ the Maverick Center! See u there! 🤘
Let’s go!!!
My favorite Tool song. Might even be my favorite song period. It helps with anxiety, and relaxation for me anyway.
Ditto, on every level!
I never get tired of seeing people react to danny and tool
subbed for this, good stuff
love tool man, this is a great song.....such an amazing band
I’m in the 4th row here. AMAZING show.
YES!! I have to have a little puff before this one 🔥💨
Watching this video is like seeing how magic is performed, but this is true magic!
This show was my 7th time seeing them. They've never sounded better than this, truly an unreal experience.
This is such an awesome video. Im excited for you to check out H. It will pull at your heart strings. Its about Maynards first child.
te queremos amigo!
January in Sacramento, Ca. Can't wait!! I'm actually taking my dad, lol.
Another great drum cam video is of Tomas Haake from Meshuggah and the song Bleed. Great reactions as usual :)
No disrespect to John Bonham (R.I.P) because he was an absolute beast at his craft but Danny Carey is greatest drummer of all time imo. Almost defies logic what he can do. Love your Tool reactions so glad that you have found them. You definitely need to react to 7empest from the Fear Inoculum album. Quite possibly their greatest achievement as a song. Danny and Justin doing their usual beast mode in driving the beat but Adam Jones is the standout on this song. His solo work in the middle of the song with Danny and Justin smashing the backbeat is possibly greatest piece of music I've ever heard. Its no fluke that it won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance despite it being a 15 minute song. You won't regret it. Tuning in from little old New Zealand 👋
This was filmed when the 🐙 was 58🤯 Great to see another young soul embrace 🛠T⚙️⚙️L🛠 Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours🙏
I'm jealous. I first saw Tool in December 1997. I've seen them 3 more times. I just couldn't justify the price for January. They were amazing every time. You are in for a treat. Saying that, the first time I saw them, they opened with Third Eye. Check it out.
Love your reactions bro.... Tool = Greatness!.. Danny wears basketball tops from teams who play in that city that they are playing the concert in....ie LA = Lakers jersey baby!!.. If they don't have an NBA team he'll wear a college teams jersey. :)
A grand master!
So effortless
January, Tacoma WA!!!..TOOL is gonna be awesome 🤘👍
There is a video out there of Danny Carey playing on a tiny drum kit with a bunch of kids covering "The Pot". He has a look of pure joy the entire time. You should look it up. I think you'd enjoy it.
Can't wait for descending reaction
Such amazing complex drumming! All four quadrants of his body is doing something different. He would have to focus his brain on what each quadrant is doing! So impressive!
