If you ask someone how they know one of their friends, they'll tell you where they met. I thought that was a plausible story - it's not a millennial wedding without some ill-judged nostalgic nu metal or emo.
I think she took his answer "he goes to the gym I went to" too literally as if he meant "I invited a random guy from the gym" as opposed to "I invited a friend that i first met at the gym"

in my experience a lot of women don't get gyms and gym bros. They go to the gym to listen to a podcast and walk on the threadmill for 1 hour, that's it. Or just don't go. I've spoken to many, many, far too many women in their 30s i've met through dating apps that have no idea what a gym looks like even. They think it's carnival strongmen levels or a gay club, nothing in between. The moment i saw him i thought:" yup, they've met at the gym and i bet he is a great guy to hang out with". He is in shape and has that good vibe
People do make friends at places they visit regularly like at the gym. It isn't that odd. Lee has his doubts on AJs story. So this one was easy to figure out as a viewer x🥳
