You’re really doing a great service here Shane. Thank you. Respect.
Here's the full review of the Fender Champion 50XL guitar amplifier. Let me know what you think.
Thanks for the review Shane. It sounds good. Did you notice any 'noise' when using the reverb? That seems to be a common complaint in some reviews.
@@PelicanIslandLabs I didn't notice it at all? Maybe if it's cranked up too far it may have issues. I didn't notice any problems.
Fender was brilliant to put a good speaker in one of their inexpensive amps as standard. Love your reviews!
I think these Champion amps are great for the money.
Any chance you’ll be doing a review and demo of the Fender Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb amp Shane ?
Love all your content mate been following you since the beginning 👍🏻
I love mine. Not as many options as it's competitors but damn does it have the best clean tone I've heard on a modeling style amp.
I’m brand new to 🎸 and I bought this amp with my guitar and I had no idea how awesome this thing is. And priced pretty reasonable for what it offers. I’m super excited. Thanks so much for this video!!!!! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
I have this amp. I saw things in your demo, that I haven't even tried yet. I understand this is not a twin reverb, Princeton, etc. That being said, it is only 15-25% of the price point, and as you said, Fender did a fantastic job of 3 dimensional sound. And in that respect, (3-d sound), it blows the Katana away. Love your videos as always. I will bookmark this one.
I also took this over the Katana. Andertons also mentioned its very good clean sound.
@neonthunderbird yes. You can. No problem. It’s sold state.
@neonthunderbird no problem. It’s a great amp for its price. I would buy it again. Are you a beginner? You can play quietly at home or loud (band volume) . It you look for a amp for Clean / Crunsh / Rock this amp is for you. If you play rock / Metal you probably better up with the Katana. The Katana also does offer a software where you can edit your sounds further. The fender does not offer that. Hope that helps. If not please feel free to ask.
Kudos to your editing skills Shane!
I just ordered one based off your review. Just needed that little nudge. Thanks Shane!
your reviews are superb ...thanks for your help
Shane I really appreciate all you do and all the honest Gear reviews that you do. I was just wondering about this Fender Champion, how well does it take pedals? Is this a good clean platform, or does it fall in the range of most solid state amps in the fact that its ability to take pedals isn't all that great?
Thanks Shane ! I have been waiting for this one. Blues On.... 💙
Sounds pretty awesome. Keep hearing celestion speakers are great. I think they're right. Great video
Thank you for doing this...helped me find the right settings for this amp... :)
Shane, I love when you mention your not a metal player you come with some Rob Zombie . Kudos my friend
Looks nice. Off topic a bit, but I’ve been using my silver stripe bandit as a power amp only for my Joyo British, AC Tone, and California pedals. They sound so great into the return effects loop bypassing the pre-amp. You should check it out if you haven’t.
I've been shopping for a new amp and I think with your review, I've found it. I'm a beginner guitar player, playing in my living room. This should work quite nicely. Cheers!
I have the amp and you Absolutely nailed biggest issue, cannot stack affects, Other than that, I think one of fenders better offerings at a very reasonable price point.
Thanks a lot. A really helpful review
Sounds fantastic. Great sounding rig, great playing.
Sounds pretty good for the $ mate ! Nice demo as always ! :-)
Nice sounds! (the playing ain't bad, either, lol) The control panel is identical to my SuperChamp x2, just with some different voicing options, and a slightly different group of fx.
IMO, Fender does a really good job with the digital reverb and tremolo effects- I love me a good tremolo, too!
Hey Shane.
Really surprised to see a Celestion in a Fender.
I'm really kinda blown away with the tones.
A consideration for playing in tight spaces where my Aircraft Carrier of a Pedalboard!!
Thanks!!
Once again Shane's tone makes a cheaper amp sound good. I liked how you used your harleys Benton's instead of one of the more expensive ones
Scotty Whittaker that amp also has a really great speaker
Nice amp indeed . It would be NICER l👀king if it had the same speaker grill as the Fender Champion 40 though . A bit more sparkle . I grabbed a Champion 40 swapped out the stock for an 12" Eminence Swamp Thang . . . BEASTING ! 😈
Great demo!
Pretty nice, my older brother has one and loves it. He doesn't know how to adujust any of the effects.Only clean.
Mate have you considered demoing the Blackstar ID TVP amps with their actual valve emulations of 6V6, EL84, EL34, KT66, 6L6 and KT88 ? ( seperate to the ID Core Line )
These are a different beast to the Mustangs and Katanas and really versatile in a whole different light of power , projection and tone and as these amps all come under the modelling/ solid state/ gigging or home use amps you demo this widely available brand abscence on your channel surprises me ( they are not a metal amp by any stretch of the imagination........ go on you'll be pleasantly surprised ! )
That Vibrolux sound was fantastic! Makes me think "Hammond B3 Organ" and that's got me all kinds of excited...
0:19 - 1:24 Holy CRAP. I'm learning this, I'm gonna stare at this video until I learn to play this because that is one the most tasty F'in thing's I've ever heard!
Hey Shane Thx for the review! Have you had the chance to try the Champion 100XL? I would love to see you review that amp in the near future.
Killer amp for the price! 50 watts is great and if you run it through a PA you have all you you need!
What is a PA?
@@jrblues Public address system, pa speakers.
I agree it sounds better then the mustang gt. Great job as always shane !! :)
Just picked this up today for dirt cheap.. impressive little amp indeed.. great video and tasty blusey phrasing as always friebd 👍👍
A BIG Thanks to Sky Music ! 🥰
Great vid‼️😎🔥
There's nothing like Fender Sound, I want 1. Great video Shane
I got this amp and use it quite frequently. Use it clean with a lot of pedals....
I cannot decide between this and the 100 (not xl). This definitely has the better speaker, but I feel like the 100 with it's two speakers, will give a more full sound when recording in my budget home studio.
Hi Shane, thanks for this. Hey how this amp handle a multi effect processor? Please help
Love that you used affordable guitars with this affordable amp.
Thanks!
Hey man! How do you compare this Champion xl with boss nextone line? They have a near proposal of sound?
Hey, I was jw did you get all your posters from one site? I was thinking trying to find all those same size be eh unless company dose it lol.
nice playing!
Man, this is the one I want!
Coming from playing through Peavey amps, this amp sounds great for the money & you get a Celestion speaker, you don't get that with the Boss
Played one today sounds good for the price point for cover gigs or church
I picked one up a year ago after a lot of research. Not bad. As Shane insinuates, you probably want to have some separate pedals so you can stack effects, if you're into more complex sounds. I play mostly clean with reverb, so not a big deal for me.
hey man, i'm looking to buy this too. can you tell me if this can handle some small gigs and if it is decent for playing + mic for live shows?
@@JonoMaiaBR It's ok. I would suggest you consider the Fender GTX100 if you're doing shows... it has a bit more flexibility, I think.
Great demo. I think the Katana is the way to go for higher-gain stuff, but this does cleans and low-to-mid gain stuff much better. It has a top-end shimmer going on that the Boss really lacks. Great amps for cheap, both of them 👍
Buy both and get an aby pedal and your ready to gig...
@@s1iznc1d34 I tried one and wasn't impressed with the high gain tones, although the Tweed and Marshall 1959 models were unbelievable. Then again, I prefer my high gain with really thick mids (I play a Marshall DSL40C with an Eminence greenback clone), and this has more of that 90s/00s scooped sound to me. If that's your cup of tea, then yeah, this thing is probably all around better than the Katana.
agree
I got this amp. If you look for Metal Sounds this amp is not for you. If you focus on clean / crunch stuff this is for you. My opinion
Between this and a Blackstar IDcore what would you prefer?
Error?! When you say you're on 'Clean + Compressor' (around 8:20) Green light is on? - if so, that's Clean 2 (65 Deluxe) according to user manual - dial on panel doesn't show all 'Voices'; it's unintentionally misleading … they just aren't all included. As you turn dial, light goes Red Green Amber for each category. I have just brought one of these home (Australia) and am getting nasty break-up even on minimal gain on 'Clean + Compressor' (65 Twin) - Amber. A fault? Think I need to return unit to shop. Other settings questionable to my ear as well. Thanks for usual good show, though.
Are there any amps you don't like? Seems as if you can make any amplifier sound good.
Well done Shane! I think I'll likely just use the channel 2 clean and my multi-effects which I can change with my foot. :-) I hate using menus and the the coloured lights on the little mustang, so simple dial-up access is the road I travel on :-)
Simple is best in my opinion. I recently bought a second hand Line 6 Spider IV 75 watt which was as new (too cheap to resist at £60) and it is taking me ages to work out how to get the best out of it - life is too short ! Effects ? Use a pedal board would be my choice :).
I absolutely agree! I'm in the same boat. I've had my line 6 for about 5 years and I've gotten so tired of feeling like I've gotta be a sound engineer to find the right tone. Today I just ordered the this fender and I can't wait to jam out!
Do the effects reverb etc work on both channels?
Kind of funny how to switch to shots of the amp while you’re playing. “You’re not even plugged in mate!”
Keep up the great work Shane!!! If you have a choice between the new Fender DeVille IV or Fender Super Reverb Reissue, which one would you rather choose?
Deville for more clean headroom and more volume vs the Super Reverb for a classic 4x10 tone that is still loud. It really depends on your taste. Both are great amps.
Yep Like Ice-cream.
Dude this is great I’ve been looking between this and the Boss katana and I think this made my decision easy
I have also decided to go for fender champion 50xl. Shane persuaded me :-) the cleans are much more fuller sounding than katana
Me to , i like that all things are in front of the amp n i dont like using pc programmes for the sound. Very useful amp great speaker.
How did you like your decision? I’m currently choosing between the boss, fender mustang and this one.
@@bridgelaurie9490 wh
at did you get? Im hoping a store has them for me to demo as Im in the same boat
Sorry meant - What did you get?
Hi Shane. If you get a Fender Tone Master Deluxe or Twin Reverb in your area I would love to see a demo. From what I heard and seen on other youtube video demos they look pretty impressive. They are cheap but look very well make with solid pine cabinets and a host of features that look useful and not gimmicky.
I’ll get my hands on them soon hopefully 😎🎸
Do you like this or champion 100 For sounds quality especially with strat
From Leo: Is it loud enough to gig with? As much as I like some of the features, the old model, the Champion 40 was very weak for a 40 watt. My Peavey ValveKing 50 makes plenty of volume.
Yes, it's loud enough to gig with...
This thing sounds fantastic
How does this compare with the Champion 40? Is this worth the cost difference?
So I want to buy myself a budget amp and I'm in doubt between a Bugera V5 and this Fender 50XL, what would you recommend? I generally play all kinds of Rock (I'm aware that I would need pedals with the bugera and I have no problem with that)
You need to grow your hair longer for rock.
What I can't seem to find is a review comparing this 50XL with the now discontinued tube-drive Super Champ X2. I have an X2 that I love. The 50XL has the exact same control/knob layout and effects. But wondering whether the tube vs solid state issue holds here? These two provide the closest possible apples-apples comparison opportunity we might ever get.
Does this amp have an effects loop?
Shane great review. However I bought one sent it back asap.. Just sounded to digital for me..I immediately detected it and M put bbn it right back in box sent it back.. I bought it after sending a GT 100 back.. I now believe I didnt spend enough time with it. I bought the champ 40 which sounds far better, its more SS sounding vs digital champ xl model..
I like it better than the SCXT. The 12' speaker really sounds much better.
I'm not sure why you didnt spend much time w/chamo 40..I watched review you did..
thanks good to know, I too find the 40 tone more natural, and I have a 90s Tech 21 100w speaker to test it with and to give it more headroom!
Hi Shane, so, this or the Boss Katana 50 mk2.
It seems to be identical to the Line 6 Spider v1 with an upgraded speaker. Can it save preset custom settings through the foot pedal?
No
Just ordered this bad boy with the foot switch. Can’t wait to try it out
how much was the footswitch ?
Michael Seymour 20 bux. I returned the amp. Didn’t like it. I got the Marshall mg100hgfx half stack. Very satisfied.
@@whitneyadamsiii6314 oh ...ok , what style music do you play mate? And why were you not happy with it ? (thnx for the response too)
Michael Seymour I enjoy playing metal and softer stuff like hard rock and alternative. The clean tone was beautiful. I just couldn’t find a distortion tone I liked. I always could have gotten a pedal or something. But I just decided I wanted something with an effects loop
@@whitneyadamsiii6314 aha .....makes sense . I didnt think the metal sound was convincing - so i can see how it you could get better .
I am after a vintage rock sound - not even hard ...so i think this will suit me ...its really what suits a player, but i think you made a wise choice there . Thnx for the explanation mate....and good luck ! cheers,. appreciate it .
Shane is it possible for you to sap a comparison between the Champion 40 and the 50 xl ? I can’t find one on RUclips . I want to buy my first Fender amp . Thanks for all your great videos. There is one on RUclips but it’s not very well done
Great question. Honestly having seen a few videos on the Champion 20 and 40, this sounds better, but to me they all sound a bit thin. Also the 20 and 40 have no effects loop, not sure if this does.
Sounds better than the new Spider and even the Katana, but the limitations are a deal breaker.
Hi Shane, did you also notice the issue with Reverb never ending background noise, like never fading, in Hall Reverb and/or in combined with with chorus and delay? many reviews comment on that.
Blues solo sounded noice on it.
I’m assuming there is no foot switch . I see the input but I’m guessing the foot switch is separate
Yes, the campion 50 rocks!!! 👍
These Amps sound great, I have the 50 Watt version and may buy the 100 watt too, the Fender Champion are great value for money amps and they sound pretty good.
@@meenis 50 XL, is the one I have, want to buy the 100 watt as well, it was not available when I bought the 50 XL where I live.
@@SomeTimeGuitarist May i use this one in live events?
@@davidcastellanos881 I think 50 watt is loud enough for live gigs, but would suggest you get the 100 watt with twin speakers if you can, I think the 100 watt just is better for a little more money, but if size is a concern then 50 watt with single speaker is great.
as far as output, doubling the output power from 50 to 100W only adds 3dB of increase in the sound output... thats not a lot for twice the price
@@kenwittlief255 Good Point, the only real advantage of the 100W I would assume is the independent effects section for both channels.
What type of the guitar is the first black guitar?
How good is this amp with pedals?
For home use, how does this compare with tone master deluxe? Is the tone and feel of the tone master superior to the champion?
How does a $225 amp compare to a $900?? Much better, I'd say...🤔
How does it compare to the champion 40?
I'm already liking this more than the Katana 50
Hey shane , how are you . These amps are good for a pedal platform?
Yes, definitely.
I will be getting one soon. Oh yeah.
great !
Fender Mustang GT 40w or Champion 50 XL?
great review....however , that wah sounded like donald duck imatating a jimi solo ! lol ....
but great amp , gonna get this - sick of lugging heavy gear
I can't unhear that now xD
It's officially the Donald Duck Tone
It's comparable with the katana, with a nice variation in tonal character. Running it in stereo with the katana would probably sound pretty huge.
I run it in stereo w a blues junior at home. It's a great amp for the money. Perfect for taking to places where you don't want to mess with a tube amp.
I almost got one of these. But the valves on the monoprice stage right 15 persuaded me the other way.
You may live to regret purchasing the Monoprice/Stage right 15 watt tube amp with 12" Chinese Celestion speaker.
I got mine on sale last year just when President Trump started the tariffs. China blinked big time and for awhile they were selling the 15 watt tube amp for$127.99.....that's right One hundred twenty seven dollars! I grabbed one.
Truthfully it's only a mediocre tube amp, not inspiring to my ears. -Peter
The Monoprice 15 watt tube amp is a good choice tbh! I have one too and after swapping the speaker to a Cannabis Rex and throwing a 5751 tube in v1 and a 12at7 in v3, this is a great sounding beast of an amp! I immediately sold 3 solid state/modeling amps because they couldn't compete. The Katana 100 head sounded thin, shrill and artificial in comparison! 0_0
Can anyone tell me which footswitch is used for this Fender Champion 50xl?
Did you write what you were playing ?
Decent review. Anderton's Review is a STEP up in the ROOM mike
sound. I think if you like simple and good Fender tube amp tones this is it.
For a paltry $250 w/ftswtch. Loud, light and simple.
Two of these in Stereo (true seperate physical) would be the ultimate 100 Watt setup.
I'm half way there. And, currently run two Peavey Classic 30 heads in stereo
with seperate 12" open back cabs . Go stereo. Better live for EVERYONE's ears.
Afterall we have two of them.
PS: Still love the Collingwood Magpies and Geelong Cats from my Melbourne days.
Good, are those 50w enough for rehearsals and playing in small places or will it fall short? Which do you recommend to put pedals, fender or boss katana 50? Thank you
Diego López I have this champion 50xl. If you used it for rehearsals. You would be fine. It’s sounds great and past half way volume it’s super loud. So give it a go it’s probably one of the best rehearsal/practice amps out there within budget
@@ammogunslaughs5124 have you tried the orange crush? Those little amps are awesome too
Rasec Silecar yeah I have mate. Yes very good. But you do have to try this fender champion 50xl. Probably best budget rehearsal and bedroom amp
50 watts is enough to gig small-medium venues with. Either will take pedals well.
I play with small jam groups regularly and use this amp. It's handled the days when we have lots of musicians show up very well!
Shane how does this compare to the Champion 40 you reviewed a while back. I have the 40 and was just wondering ...
This is a cool amp. I would need to test them side by side, but I feel like this amp would be the way to go.
@@intheblues I think that would be an awesome video that would help out a lot of people, tbh. Cheers, Shane.
i would even throw in the small 20w, too. just being curious how it keeps up with his bigger brothers on lower volumes.
I loved the Champion 40 and thought it was loud enough to jam with any drummer. The 50xl is a notch above and with the 12" Celestion it kicks ass!
Is this tube, solid state, or digital? I can’t tell. It sounds really good though.
solid state.
Fender Champion 100 is a killer of new Fender tone master twin
I have one in my jam room right now :-) I'll be filming it next week.
@@intheblues 1000€/dollars is ilogical por that amp Bro
In Spain for 150€ hoy have a Champion 100...the clean Channel is...
Salutes from Spain Shane
I can’t decide between getting this + a multi effect pedal or a mustang gt100. Need for practice and gigs and home recording
I'd steer clear of the GT100. Fender missed the mark with the Mustang GT series. The tone is just very plastic. I would go for this or look for a used Mustang IV version 2.
Really depends if you want to plug n play or have a million effects. I own this and there are pros and cons. I think this amp sounds great for what it is, but that being said it's limited in a lot of ways and I don't like the way the controls work. If you're the kind of player that tends to pick a sound and stay with it, this amp is killer. I also think this amp is killer if you have pedals. Otherwise, the Mustang is the way to go. That being said the advice differs for what it's used for. These are just practice amps for me so I don't need the best tone out of them.
what scale are you playing?
" EGG--SOLENT , MATE ! " MY 50 YEAR OLD ACOUSTIC 134 IS NOT DOING THE JOB ... THANKS ! "
Do the Celestion speakers make a big difference in the tone over Fender speakers? I bought a Champion 100 with dual 12 inch Fender speakers but there's the Champion 100XL with dual Celestion speakers for $150 more. Do you think they are worth it?
The XL comes with a few more modeling effects too, so the price difference isn't only the speakers. But my question still is: Are the Celestions worth it?
Yes, the Celestions are what make this amp sound great IMO. That being said for that price you're getting into very solid used tube amp prices. Not saying you should get a tube amp, but I know a lot of people buy solid state thinking they can't afford tube. Personally I own both for different reasons.
@@RogerThat902
I ended up returning both Fender amps and went with the Boss Katana. Not even a comparison. The Boss amp is superior to any Fender solid state in every way.
Thanks for your help though...😎
Which is better the champion 50 or the mustang lt 50..... For blues and classic rock sound.. And clean.
Get the champion
Would this sound Good with distortion pedals infront of it ?
I put a dist. pedal in front of a 25 watt Fender Champ and it was way too loud and hard to control. Better to use tube amps i believe.
