    Just bought one of these as an elderly beginner guitarist. I had no idea it could do all this stuff. Seems it’s something I will grow in to. Thankyou for the thorough demo. I am sticking with the clean side at this stage. Btw. Cost approximately 500 New Zealand dollars which seems very reasonable to me Cheers

    Good review Mike. All functions and controls nicely detailed and described. Most of the reviews try to project the player, who exhibits his playing skills rather than the review in question ! And here, though you are a very good player, you have detailed the product rather than trying to impress the viewer with your playing skill. I appreciate that very much. Keep it up.

    FENDER REALLY NEEDS TO ADD A DAMN MID CONTROL!!

    • @choplass
      @choplass 5 лет назад +2

      They also needed a separate knob like the Vox VT series to control how much of the overdrive is added to your signal. For those two reasons I won't consider this amp, I'll get the Katana instead.

      Fender does offer amps with a mid control. One of them is the Blues Jr IV. (More $). I don't think that there is a better sounding amp with this many features in this price range. Great review.

    I got the champion 20 as my first amp.
    It sounds great with my epiphone les Paul would definitely recommend it for a practice amp.
    It sounds great for clean songs like snow by the rhcp or overdriven songs like creeping death by Metallica and everything in between. Also the effects are really fun to play around with.
    It cost me one hundred dollars which is a really great price for the quality, and if you have the money I don’t see why you shouldn’t buy the 50.

    I'll never understand why Fender thinks it's okay to not add an adjustable Mid Range with these 200 dollar and below amps. Makes such a big difference to be able to adjust the mids. One of the reasons I sold my Champion 40 and upgraded to a Boss Katana 100. That and also the Katana is wicked!

    I love a bit of reverb on it’s own BUT Reverb Hall (3) and Reverb Spring (4) FX settings always give a highly noticeable hissing noise which interferes with the tone. It seems to me that reverb+chorus, FX setting (02) is the only option to get some reverb but it has to be combined with chorus. What a shame. This must be due to a software glitch for this solid state digital amp? Fender must rectify this.
    Others here have also said this.Otherwise lovely, sparkling clean tones and an excellent Celestion 12” Midnight speaker that’s warm, clear,responsive and room filling, definitely NOT “boxy” sounding as others have described for the Mustang GT series with all it’s gadgety, WiFi, fiddly bluetoooth settings.This is great for simple plug and play to get one’s way super quick.

    The big question!
    Does one want a modelling amp like the FENDER MUSTANG GT 100 with all the “bells and whistles”, limitless presets, Bluetooth & WIFI connectivity, on board tuner, LED screen etc etc etc
    OR
    a simple “plug and play” with beautiful Fender clean tones, a few amp models and presets but with a better 12” Midnight 60 Celestion speaker, open backed with warmth and room filling capacity, not boxy, truly giggable, the new black face FENDER CHAMP 50xl? Yes. unhyped, under the radar and cheaper and better!? No 10 second warm up no need for hours of knob fiddling and hours spent finding the “right” tone?
    I want a versatile amp that’s simple to use with legendary Fender clean tones without the LED screen (hopeless eyesight) whereby every note I play in a chord is crystal clear👍...and it’s cheaper!👍

    Sounds nice! I notice there is a Fender Champion 40. I am kind of torn between the two. My main use is the clean channel - looking for the "Fender cleans" and dirt from multi-fx and stompbox pedals for effects. I have gone through the manual and the Voice and FX are the same (like the knobs of 40 better). In your view, which one is better and why? Is it just the 10W more or the speaker on 50XL is better for cleans?

    • @mr.d.572
      @mr.d.572 2 года назад

      Great question. I think they both sound kind of thin, but this one sounds more British and nasally than the Champion 40. But is the Champion 40 better? I think it's a matter of taste regarding the tones and the speaker (Celestion in the 50XL)

      @@JAF2991 I played both awhile, and ended up w the XL. After almost a year, I'm much happier w the XL - the dimensions of the cab and the celestion speaker give it a thicker sound w alot more oomph. Some of the amp models do sound hollow, but I've gotten a nice sound by layering different amp models in recordings.

      It costs the same as the Katana. So, you're getting far less for the same price. That, and customers having to send the entire Fender amp back to the company for 'software updates,' is probably why it's not selling.

    • @Da_Publick
      @Da_Publick 2 месяца назад

      The Katana 50 MK II costs roughly the same as the Champion 50xl. So you're getting far _less_ than the BOSS, for the same cost. That, and customers having to send the entire amp back to Fender for 'software updates,' are the likely reasons it's not selling.

    • @JammyGit

      @Vyshawn foreman - I'd say yes because listen at 03:08 when he changes channel you can hear the hiss, after that happens he quickly turns his guitar volume down whenever he stops playing. The guitar has humbuckers too. This was just on a low gain amp & setting too. So you can bet that any more distorted & higher gain sounding amp models are going to hiss like a cat. I'd steer well clear of this amp if I were you mate.

    The reverb on mine is going crazy. Not sure if it’s meant to be that way or if mines broken. They both kinda sound like white noise and static and go on forever. The only way it’s useable is with the fx level barely turned on. It’s the same for the reverb + delay setting as well. Is this the same on yours???

    • @GreatGreenRiver
      @GreatGreenRiver 5 лет назад

      Mine does this too. I got it tonight but will return it asap. It must be defective. The speaker sounds good but the reverb is bad and it’s a noisy amp. My tube amps don’t hiss like that at idle. Those who think Blackstar ID Core amps are noisy... well they are not worse than this Champion.

      My 50xl has the same problem with the reverb, even with the fx level set really low. I've seen other people around the internet also experiencing the same problem. Wish I didn't miss my shop's 30-day return window or I would've brought it back. Instead the amp is in for a warranty repair. It's been gone for 2 weeks, which is a big disappointment for an amp I've had for less than three months.

    Just to be a little perverse, I see the Champion has a Frontman 25R as a neighbor. I bought the Frontman five years ago and was disappointed to find it lacks quintessential Fender chime. The Champion seems chimey enough. In your opinion, what's the best use for the Frontman now that it's up against both Champion and Mustang tone selections?

    When is this amp going to be available worldwide? I've seen quite a few RUclipsrs's videos about it, but right now it's not even on the Fender site, and no one is selling it in Malaysia yet.

      Check this site out.. www.thomann.de/gb/fender_champion_50_xl.htm?ref=search_prv_0
      They normally sell worlwide.. that will cost you about 30 US Dollar shipping. Greets.

      You just plug your guitar cable into the input and plug the output cable into the input on your amp.

    How would you feel about swapping between the amp models and effect settings in a stage setting Mike? Looked like you were having a little difficulty moving cleanly from one setting to another.

    • @TheArtofGuitar
      @TheArtofGuitar  5 лет назад

      I’d just hook up the footswitch and keep it simple. Like I mention in the video, it’s not my first choice for live but could get me through just fine. :)

    • @chrisjeneson5091
      @chrisjeneson5091 5 лет назад

      I fully agree, the footswitch is vital and in my opinion it should be included. Put 10€ on the price and all would be well. Thanks for the reply-

    Old vid i know, just ordered this amp and was wondering what the guys who have owned this thing for a year or two now think about it so far. Has it held up well? And has it performed to your satisfaction overall? Hope i'm not making a big mistake by ordering this amp. Great review!

      Mine is great. I have had it almost two years now and it sounds better than when I first bought it. I am into tube amps now but I still take this one out to play at least 3-4 hours a week. It's just fun. I like the fuzz sound I can get out of it.

    • @N2tao
      @N2tao Год назад +1

      I have had mine for just over six months, and I like it more and more as time goes on. Having had a couple of great tube amps in the past, I was skeptical at first, but for the price, I figured I'd take a chance. Very glad I did. Without question, one of the best amps for under $300 usd. Is it a '65 Deluxe Reverb, no; but, it Definitely punches above its weight class.
