THANK YOU!
Just bought one of these as an elderly beginner guitarist. I had no idea it could do all this stuff. Seems it’s something I will grow in to. Thankyou for the thorough demo. I am sticking with the clean side at this stage. Btw. Cost approximately 500 New Zealand dollars which seems very reasonable to me Cheers

Does it copy other fender amps? Probabley a stupid question
@@jamiekerley4123 The 6 first amps are Fenders but idk for the other 6 amps
Great demo. This amp sounds like a winner, good price, easy to use too, which is big for us senior rockers!!
Good review Mike. All functions and controls nicely detailed and described. Most of the reviews try to project the player, who exhibits his playing skills rather than the review in question ! And here, though you are a very good player, you have detailed the product rather than trying to impress the viewer with your playing skill. I appreciate that very much. Keep it up.
I returned my fender mustang gt 100 for this amp because of this video. thanks man, great amp.
its such a bad amp
hope you got what you wanted out of it though
@@zackd6168 are u saying the mustang or champion is the awful amp? Thinking about buying either one
By far the best demo of this amp I’ve seen.
Drinking game:
Take a shot every time Mike says "woah that's trippy"
Woah, you'll be tippy. haha
Fender nailed it with this amp. It’s a great all around amp. Price point is incredible
FENDER REALLY NEEDS TO ADD A DAMN MID CONTROL!!
They also needed a separate knob like the Vox VT series to control how much of the overdrive is added to your signal. For those two reasons I won't consider this amp, I'll get the Katana instead.
Fender does offer amps with a mid control. One of them is the Blues Jr IV. (More $). I don't think that there is a better sounding amp with this many features in this price range. Great review.
No need for mids.....
Turn down the bass and trebel knobs and it cranks the mids... Like bass and trebel set to 12 o'clock works perfect for a balanced tone for me.
Sensational review. Best I've ever seen on any amp, ever, bar none. I was leaning heavily toward this amp and had basically made my decision before your review, ..But your review sealed my decision.
Greatly appreciate the nuances you brought into the review, you knocked it out of the park.
I ordered this amp before seeing your video, so glad I did. Great job on the demo. Can't wait for it to arrive.
Just the correct amount of verbalism and short to the point play. (Not endless pitter patter that some reviewers do). Thanks! I want one!
That's exactly why I subscribed.
This review convinced me to buy this amp. Fender needs to send your a commission for this sale 🤣. Best review I've seen on this amp went through it how I'd go through an amp in the store. Done deal
One of the best amp reviews I've seen so far, thanx!!
You guys who are complaining are spoiled. I remember driving across town to buy a used delay pedal years ago. For the money this is awesome.
I got the champion 20 as my first amp.
It sounds great with my epiphone les Paul would definitely recommend it for a practice amp.
It sounds great for clean songs like snow by the rhcp or overdriven songs like creeping death by Metallica and everything in between. Also the effects are really fun to play around with.
It cost me one hundred dollars which is a really great price for the quality, and if you have the money I don’t see why you shouldn’t buy the 50.
i own the fender 20 and unfortunately it just cant handle distortion pedals and it just overall is missing that beautiful high gain tone, great first amp tho i love mine!
Just bought this after watching this video can’t wait to try it out
Same here.. bought one an hour ago.. this thing rocks in vintage tone and has a lot off headroom.
I was actually thinking about three choices.. Katana 50 - Blackstar ID Core stereo 40 or this one.
This fits me the most..
@@brunoCondor I'm a fender amp guy through and through, mainly because I love psych too much
I have watched a lot of reviews on this amp today bouncing between this & the orange crush 35rt. This helped a lot thanks.
Very cool. I am impressed by that amp also. Can't believe it is only 219 bucks! The 4 pedals built into it would cost more. I have an ME70. pretty much does the same.
Indeed, and the plus of a non-generic speaker: a Celestion midnight 60, apparently designed for this amp.
Sounds good that amp. I'm impressed.
Your playing is awesome in this man
This musician can make ANY amp sound glorious.
Yeah, he is ridiculously good....
im so confused, my amp barely changes tone when i switch to crunch, but for you it sounds way different. not sure wtf is going on
I'll never understand why Fender thinks it's okay to not add an adjustable Mid Range with these 200 dollar and below amps. Makes such a big difference to be able to adjust the mids. One of the reasons I sold my Champion 40 and upgraded to a Boss Katana 100. That and also the Katana is wicked!
Yup. Pretty bizarre honestly. What sound on a guitar is important? What frequency range do you need your guitar to handle in a band?
*MIDS*
I got a katana 100 and oddly enough I find myself playing this fender more 😂
Brought it to a band rehearsal tonight. It was good.
The good feedbacks are what I live for😁
I love a bit of reverb on it’s own BUT Reverb Hall (3) and Reverb Spring (4) FX settings always give a highly noticeable hissing noise which interferes with the tone. It seems to me that reverb+chorus, FX setting (02) is the only option to get some reverb but it has to be combined with chorus. What a shame. This must be due to a software glitch for this solid state digital amp? Fender must rectify this.
Others here have also said this.Otherwise lovely, sparkling clean tones and an excellent Celestion 12” Midnight speaker that’s warm, clear, responsive and room filling, definitely NOT “boxy” sounding as others have described for the Mustang GT series with all it’s gadgety, WiFi, fiddly bluetoooth settings. This is great for simple plug and play to get one’s way super quick.
Great video! Best demo I've found on this amp. I'm looking at this amp to go with my Tele. So much Fender amp for a great price. 😎
I just got an almost brand new one used. I really like it.
The big question!
Does one want a modelling amp like the FENDER MUSTANG GT 100 with all the “bells and whistles”, limitless presets, Bluetooth & WIFI connectivity, on board tuner, LED screen etc etc etc
OR
a simple “plug and play” with beautiful Fender clean tones, a few amp models and presets but with a better 12” Midnight 60 Celestion speaker, open backed with warmth and room filling capacity, not boxy, truly giggable, the new black face FENDER CHAMP 50xl? Yes. unhyped, under the radar and cheaper and better!? No 10 second warm up no need for hours of knob fiddling and hours spent finding the “right” tone?
I want a versatile amp that’s simple to use with legendary Fender clean tones without the LED screen (hopeless eyesight) whereby every note I play in a chord is crystal clear👍...and it’s cheaper!👍
Exactly why I bought this even though I own a Katana 100... 😂 Actually thinking of selling my Katana tbh
Best video ever for this Fender 50XL! Bravo!
British 2 was my favorite as well. it has that nice mid low.
Great job. Very helpful.
Awesome video! Helped me make up mind as to which amp to buy.
Got this Amp on Amazon and I'm so glad I did. This is so much better.
I own one of these and I didn't think of turning the bassman's gain up
Very nice and complete review, thanks a lot Mike!
Just bought this amp, love it,thanks for posting
I KEEP WATCHING .. ENJOY YOUR PLAYING ..
Sounds nice! I notice there is a Fender Champion 40. I am kind of torn between the two. My main use is the clean channel - looking for the "Fender cleans" and dirt from multi-fx and stompbox pedals for effects. I have gone through the manual and the Voice and FX are the same (like the knobs of 40 better). In your view, which one is better and why? Is it just the 10W more or the speaker on 50XL is better for cleans?
Great question. I think they both sound kind of thin, but this one sounds more British and nasally than the Champion 40. But is the Champion 40 better? I think it's a matter of taste regarding the tones and the speaker (Celestion in the 50XL)
The Champion 40", is my second favorite amp, after the " Blues Jr.", I put a Jensen Alnico in it, the stock speaker was a little bland.
I have this amp, don’t get it. It sounds super hollow, and you can only get reasonable mids on the basic clean channel. But it does take pedals nicely
About to buy an amp today, so I guess the Champ 40 is better then
@@JAF2991 I played both awhile, and ended up w the XL. After almost a year, I'm much happier w the XL - the dimensions of the cab and the celestion speaker give it a thicker sound w alot more oomph. Some of the amp models do sound hollow, but I've gotten a nice sound by layering different amp models in recordings.
Looks like a good choice for someone like me who would just use it to record at home . Good review .
what an awesome amp. I dont know if anything else comes close other than the BOSS kitana. But I love how this one does so much at way less than the kitana
It costs the same as the Katana. So, you're getting far less for the same price. That, and customers having to send the entire Fender amp back to the company for 'software updates,' is probably why it's not selling.
The Katana 50 MK II costs roughly the same as the Champion 50xl. So you're getting far _less_ than the BOSS, for the same cost. That, and customers having to send the entire amp back to Fender for 'software updates,' are the likely reasons it's not selling.
5:56 Sounds like Jack White, that's nice!
Hey guys, I figured out his name, it's Mike.

@@suvindraickybicky1216 I know it is old comment but I would never go with "digital" amps like Fender Mustang series as I used to own one and all pre-set sounded pretty unrealistically horrible. My next amp will be Champion 100XL because of one reason.... rockabilly since I own Gretsch guitar now. I owned Fender Mustang IV amp and didn't like the way it sounded so traded it off for Marshall amp but then again, didn't liked how it sounded so getting Champion 100XL next.
AXE IS AMAZING .. AMP SEEMS TO BE WHAT I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN ..
Is that Michael McIntyre?
Yes....he doubles as a guitar salesman too 🙄
Some amplifier similar to Champion 50 xl in quality sound. In Mexico is out of stock. Thanks friend.
you also sold me the dang geetar fella - greetings from australia
My amp doesn't break up when I whack the gain up wtf. Not enough bass?
if instead of the clean channel they would put a preset knob and a save button just like in the mustang, switchable with a foot switch. then this thing would be perfect.... and get rid of that strange hall reverb maybe....
9:38 Sounds like a Dire Straits tone
The riff at 8:15 sounds like heartbreaker
Jacob G. I think he was actually playing it but with his own improvisation abit . Cause he did mention about led zeppelin right after that
Nice review and Axe!
I play surf music and the spring reverb on that amp sounds nice I could not hear the drip sound on it so wondering if you do get a drippy sound
14:53-56 sounds so familiar but I can't place where I've heard it from before? Any help?
Brennan Rasmusson the Stray Cats- Rock this town
I really wonder if boss katana is still the king or did this fender owns it
IGarrettI boss Katana is definitely better
Think the katana smokes this no problem. The fender is limited with the effects and the katana 50 is a bit cheaper.
Depends what you are buying it for. The speaker on this kicks fuck out of the katana. This is a clean, blues, rock, live monster. The katana is for everything else and also cheap studio killer with the software hook up that I don't think this has anything like it.
Fender Champion 50XL vs Boss Katana 50 - Is Katana still king? Or will the Fender take the crown?
(ruclips.net/video/Ee4Y968MUXQ/видео.html)
Bea and Pete did a Katana vs this 50XL via Anderton’s
Hey I love yer stuff man. These other guys were irritating me with their "concerts" OK IM impressed. They can play better thanme with my 50 yrs of playing. I like the way you had th screen setup . I noticed the buzz. I thought it was just me. I have a Rickenbacker. Wow u just answered my question...Bass and treble are universal. Ch1 or Ch2. I know it seems dumb, but I didnt know! Hey brother, once again you haveanswered all my questions. I remember u did some Beatle stuff didnt you. Lotta fun.
Thank you for this review, I just bought one
I have this one.. it's loud enough to jam with drum, trust me..i dont even turn up the volume to the fullest when playing with rock genre, together with drum..best amp for gigging in a small gig around 50-100 crowds without mic'd..
Is it noisy because i had the champion 40 and that had a horrible hiss
@Vyshawn foreman - I'd say yes because listen at 03:08 when he changes channel you can hear the hiss, after that happens he quickly turns his guitar volume down whenever he stops playing. The guitar has humbuckers too. This was just on a low gain amp & setting too. So you can bet that any more distorted & higher gain sounding amp models are going to hiss like a cat. I'd steer well clear of this amp if I were you mate.
The reverb on mine is going crazy. Not sure if it’s meant to be that way or if mines broken. They both kinda sound like white noise and static and go on forever. The only way it’s useable is with the fx level barely turned on. It’s the same for the reverb + delay setting as well. Is this the same on yours???
Mine does this too. I got it tonight but will return it asap. It must be defective. The speaker sounds good but the reverb is bad and it’s a noisy amp. My tube amps don’t hiss like that at idle. Those who think Blackstar ID Core amps are noisy... well they are not worse than this Champion.
My 50xl has the same problem with the reverb, even with the fx level set really low. I've seen other people around the internet also experiencing the same problem. Wish I didn't miss my shop's 30-day return window or I would've brought it back. Instead the amp is in for a warranty repair. It's been gone for 2 weeks, which is a big disappointment for an amp I've had for less than three months.
Fantastic review. Fantastic amp.
Waiting for mine to arrive!
thank you! Better than the one Fender did!
Can you tell me about Fender Champion 40, how it is for metal? Thanks.
Fender are good for metal , only if you put your pedals to the clean channel. If you dont have pedals forget it try something else.
Can anyone recommend me some good settings for Nirvana songs on this amp?
xd Dysfunctional have treble and bass at 3’oclock on the second British channel with max gain.
I am very interested in this for doing rock harmonica
Just to be a little perverse, I see the Champion has a Frontman 25R as a neighbor. I bought the Frontman five years ago and was disappointed to find it lacks quintessential Fender chime. The Champion seems chimey enough. In your opinion, what's the best use for the Frontman now that it's up against both Champion and Mustang tone selections?
I teach using the Frontman's. They're good for general all-purpose but the channel switch breaks on every one I've had. :/
Why is bass turned all way up during whole video ?
Great job
When is this amp going to be available worldwide? I've seen quite a few RUclipsrs's videos about it, but right now it's not even on the Fender site, and no one is selling it in Malaysia yet.
Check this site out.. www.thomann.de/gb/fender_champion_50_xl.htm?ref=search_prv_0
They normally sell worlwide.. that will cost you about 30 US Dollar shipping. Greets.
Excellent review.
Seems like a great deal to me
I have this amp for guitar use…sounds great. Can you use this amp for keyboards using clean channels and no effects?
Nice demo
what riff is that at 16:52
U2 Sunday Bloody Sunday
What foot switch are you using? I just got this amp and wondering what everyone using.

Thank you, helps me a lot!
What is the difference of this and the champion 40? They have the same specs features
Someone lost a bet, on which one would sell better, classic design or 'modern?'
How do you make petals work with the voice always being permanently on
You just plug your guitar cable into the input and plug the output cable into the input on your amp.
The Orange setting
Great review👍
Dificil saber qual comprar aqui no brasil🇧🇷
Fender 50Xl custa $ 500 DOLAR
Boss katana 50 CUSTA $ 600 DÓLARES .🤔🤔🤔
A lot of noise when your not playing, great sounding amp for the price though
Noise suppresser
good i play this in a good sized gig
Really helpful, thank you.
How would you feel about swapping between the amp models and effect settings in a stage setting Mike? Looked like you were having a little difficulty moving cleanly from one setting to another.
I’d just hook up the footswitch and keep it simple. Like I mention in the video, it’s not my first choice for live but could get me through just fine. :)
I fully agree, the footswitch is vital and in my opinion it should be included. Put 10€ on the price and all would be well. Thanks for the reply-
Could you gig with this?
Thanks Mike!
Brit 80s Crunch is very Orange Micro Terror.
Thanks! 👍✨
Does it work well with pedals and big multi effects like the boss me80
Nice amp!
Can this run on batterys ?
Ayy lmao
Old vid i know, just ordered this amp and was wondering what the guys who have owned this thing for a year or two now think about it so far. Has it held up well? And has it performed to your satisfaction overall? Hope i'm not making a big mistake by ordering this amp. Great review!
Mine is great. I have had it almost two years now and it sounds better than when I first bought it. I am into tube amps now but I still take this one out to play at least 3-4 hours a week. It's just fun. I like the fuzz sound I can get out of it.
I have had mine for just over six months, and I like it more and more as time goes on. Having had a couple of great tube amps in the past, I was skeptical at first, but for the price, I figured I'd take a chance. Very glad I did. Without question, one of the best amps for under $300 usd. Is it a '65 Deluxe Reverb, no; but, it Definitely punches above its weight class.
Can't get on with the distortion on the amp,a bit muddy for me
would anyone recommend this for trash metal?? i dont have any pedals
I would go with a Katana but you can definitely get a good overdriven tone
Love your videos
Nice Jaguar bro, great demo
On a scale of 1-10 on the MIDS KNOB, how much does this amp... Oh, wait...
