I have some fender tube amps and bought a Champion 100 three years ago as just a back up and practice amp. I didn't even open the box for a year 🙄 But I started using it at a local church I play at in a rocking gospel band so I could just leave it there set up. I have to admit once I started using it and broke the speakers in I was amazed how good it sound. It is a loud amp and I would have no problem gigging with it. Outboard effects thru the FX Loop seem to work ok too. With all that said the only difference so far I can tell with the XL is the look, different speakers and the XL is $50 more on Musicians Friend.
Raymon Blodgett you are so right about the speakers needing to break in...especially on solid state and digital amps...I have the mustang gt and it was “too crisp” especially for metal sounds ....after a while when I played clean amps setting I would notice it sounds so much smoother as well as the high gain sounds
Fender are making a really big effort to delve into Digital alternatives and I respect their ambition with it! I'm still gonna be playing my valve Princeton Reverb RI 65' until the day I retire, because its that good... But this amp sounds good and reminds me of the Boss Modeling stuff that's been put out recently - which was also very high quality for modeling!
I don't know... sadly, I don't have my Princeton Chorus no more, he WAS an awesome amp. But hearing this one here, I guess, I would switch. It covers almost all the bases, and sounds great

Very nice demo. I'm a fan of these amps, and this demo shows why many players will find the 100XL a great "go-to" amp for practicing, rehearsals, and recording.
Excellent review! You can see and hear exactly what's going on. I've had Katana 50 and 100. After the honeymoon period was over I ended up not liking them and sold them. I think this is more the amp I'd be happier with in the long term, much less searching and tweaking for a sound which should jump out at you when you first plug in if the amp is right.
@@CarlitoM77 it's a great amp. It is really versatile and you can use it on its own without any problem or if you have pedals or multi FX units it's also suitable for them.
