    Hi guy's, I bought a Fender Champion 100, that is what guy said was a good amp at Guitar Center. I am 68, and trying to teach myself to play. I am 100 % disabled Vet, and using guitar to help with my PTSD. What I can not do is change from one channel to other. Guy didn't tell me shit at store, and there is not any books to help me figure amp out.

    I know everyone thinks this amp has shitty OD sounds, but trust me it doesn't, IF you know how to set it correctly. The only voicings I use on the OD channel are the Bassman and 2000s metal, however, I don't play metal, I play blues. If you set it correctly (don't dump the mids out, keep everything around 6, with bass on 10) and gain on 10, you can get killer, killer, tones. Turn the volume down on your guitar to clean up, don't use the gain knob. And you can tone all the way from a 60s Plexi sound to a 70s Super lead, to a Van Halen 5150 tone, all using volume. And on the Bassman setting, don't crank the gain, keep it around 6 maximum, otherwise it gets really ear bleedingly treblely. Just for reference, I have a 1993 Fender MIJ 1972 Reissue Strat, with some kind of Dimarzio single coil in the bridge. A Epiphone 1961 Les Paul Custom Reissue. And a Squier Classic Vibe 50s Tele. I also use no pedals, this amp doesn't seem to like pedals being put in front of it, at least OD pedals. I have played everything from Hendrix to Metallica, and its fantastic.

    I like the guitar playing on this video so much, I'm glad someone's comment brought me back. As for the amp, Fender's taken much of the work out of trying to find a variety of usable tones on a solid state amp. Basically it's the clean channel, then the same voicing on the OD side, run through circuitry to add/subtract brightness and distortion (not a fan of the distortion.) The real payoff is when you learn how to add effects to these voicings, and how Fender got it right by putting modulation before time-based effects. That's knowledge the player can take with them, when they're setting up their pedal boards.

    Three questions.
    1. Does this amp have all the sound effects as the Champion 40?
    2. Why doesn't an amp screech with feedback when you put the mic right up to the speakers like that?
    3. How high can you turn up the volume before the police show up at your front door?

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  7 лет назад +9

      1. Yes, it has one more FX and one more Amp Voice (Jazz)
      2. As long as you don't create a feedback loop with the mic (e.g. plugged into another speaker) it's no problem
      3. Good question never tried it :) But volume at 4-5 would be a good starting point for that!

    • @carolstevens1429
      @carolstevens1429 7 лет назад +2

      LoudBox Music
      I have a mic I use for vocals and I have to move the amp all over the room to avoid the screeching feedback.
      That's why I can't understand why it doesn't do it with the mic right up to the amp like that.
      I have researched this problem on other RUclips sites and their solution is always move the amp or the mic away from each other.
      It works pretty well.
      Maybe the guitar is a different matter when it comes to feedback?

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  7 лет назад +1

      where does the mic go? Computer, monitor speaker,..?

    • @carolstevens1429
      @carolstevens1429 7 лет назад

      LoudBox Music
      Into the Amp.

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  7 лет назад +12

      oh, you're creating a feedback loop that way. For example you play a note, the mics picks it up and sends it back into the Amp which sends it back out again into the mic. ->Infinite loop! If you want to record the amp I would suggest you plug the mic directly into the audio interface of the computer and monitor with headphones during recording.

      Is it loud enough for band rehearsal?

    • @MrJoeyBoombotz
      @MrJoeyBoombotz 8 лет назад +1

      Depends on the drummer and bass player. It SHOULD be loud enough. Practicing/rehearsal doesn't need to be a high volume affair. Getting the beginnings and endings of sonds or going through an entire set doesn't require full tilt boogie volume. Redefining rehearsal should be a priorty if you your band actually gets gigs. Using 2 of these on gigs is an option as well. One clean and one dirty. I like the tone of ALL SS amps better at low and moderate volumes.

    Thanks for the interesting and useful demo. Old vid but a goodie. I've had this amp since mid 2018, but hadn't seen your vid previously. I can't speak highly enough of this amp. For all American Fender tones but particularly the cleans IMV this will suffice for all but the cashed up and fanatically purist. In terms of bang for the buck of what and how it delivers, it's unbeatable. Much as I don't want to praise Fender because of their regional price gouging outside the USA, I have to give this amp a two thumbs up. And did I mention it can do LOUD!? VERY LOUD.

    Hands down the best review of this amp in my opinion as every voicing is played in a way that compliments them (not so much for the metal settings, but I'd imagine that pure metalheads look somewhere else for an amp). I was halfway sold on the Champion 100 but this video confirmed that I want one =D

    I think I’d buy one of these champ 100 amps over the much more expensive tonemaster amps. Fender throws twin, Deluxe, and Princeton reverb on a solid state amp and charges twice the money for them and they don’t do half the things the champ does. I tried a champ 100 and then a twin reverb tonemaster. I didn’t see or hear 600 dollars of difference. The champ 100 has a twin reverb tone setting on it and it’s pretty dang close. I had a real twin reverb for years so I know what they sound like. The tonemaster twin sounded good too but cost twice what it should cost
    The Princeton reverb setting on the champ kicks some serious ass

    I hate tube amps because of their weight and the up-keep and stupid prices. But, I like the champion 100,its plenty for most and don't believe these saps with their "man my 15 watt tube blues jr blows the champion out of the water bs",I assure you this is just not the case.lets not forget one of the most coveted clean amps is the roland jc-120 which is 100% solid state and that randy roads while using Marshall tube amps actually got all his gain from mxr effect peda...

    • @Da_Publick
      @Da_Publick 5 месяцев назад

      But tube amps sound better, which is why people will still deal with the weight, upkeep, and prices. Randy didn't put those pedals through a solid state amp because he wouldn't, he knew they wouldn't sound good. And even today, Overdrives and distortions stink through a SS amp. In fact, the Champion is a good example. The built-in distortion effects aren't even decent.

    Cool to review with a Squier Guitar, a lot of people do not want to spend so expensive money in guitars and amps, i think this is a good combination.......It rocks........i have the same setup and sometimes i use a overdrive Pedal of Boss before

    Thank you for the video I have just subscribed. Is that a Marshall DSL40CR 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp I see in the background? I ask because after 20+ years I am relearning/beginning guitar again and I am comparing that Marshall with this Fender amp as my first amp to purchase in the coming week and ironically you have both and are reviewing one of the two haha insane! anyway after leaning to the Marshall because of this video considering everything including price I am leaning to teh Fender but we'll see. Thanks again!

    The Champion 100 is on my short list of amps I'm considering for my next purchase along with the VOX AC30VR, Peavey Valve King 212 and Classic 50, Fender Mustang III, Bugera BC30, and a few others. My style is psych rock and generally old school rock, with most of my distortion (more fuzz than overdrive or metal distortion) and effects coming from pedals, so I'm hoping for decent tube-like crunch, a good full and loud tone and a nice washy reverb. I don't care much how "metal" it is. I'm hoping the Champ 100 would be a good choice for a low cost solid state amp for the kind of music I play.

    • @stevebell4853
      @stevebell4853 7 лет назад +2

      Don't get a mustang, they're cheap crap. The champion should replace the mustang in that list. The mustang shouldn't even be there. Hopefully that makes your choice easier.

    Nice demo of the amp. You perhaps should have selected a few additional pickup settings to add to the demo'ed versatility of the amp, since several amp voicings were pretty "muddy". But overall, video was a well-executed demo of what the amp provides. Thx.

      You can use it for metal, the metal voices are a good starting point. However it probably won't sound as good as a high gain Marshall or Engl amp.

    Great video! Congrats. I want a full tube amp but I don't have enough money for it but my money is enough for Champ 100. If I buy tube amp, I'll buy Marshall MA50C. Should I wait for MA50C for 6 months or more, or should I buy Champ 100 ? What do you think ? Thanks.
    I like playing blues and metal btw, I dont usually use clean channel. Overdrive and distortion is more important for me. :)

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  8 лет назад

      Thanks! That's a good question, but as I didn't have a chance to play the Marshall MA50C so far, I really can't tell what you should go with. The Champion 100 is a really versatile amp for many different genres, but if you are after a really agressive overdriven tube sound, the Marshall might be a better option.

    Hey man awesome video post! I see you got your pedalboard beside you on the video. When you use your pedals do you just set the fx on the amp to off and just use the clean channel and let the pedals do the effects from that point?..

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  8 лет назад

      Thanks! Well, it depends. Sometimes I just use the pedals with the clean channel, but I also like to use them in combination. You can get great distortion sounds that way!

      Ok I will try both! I literally just walked out of Guitarcenter with it! Can't wait to get home. I will say one thing that was confusing me. Say if I wanted to just run my pedals on the clean channel and I turned the fx off where is the mids knob function come in place? I only seen a treble and bass on the left clean side of the amp... Thanks again for the quick response.

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  8 лет назад

      Yes, the clean channel does not have a Mid knob, but I actually didn't miss it so far. Otherwise you can use a EQ pedal in front of it.

      @ jonny - Hey, glad you're still getting on with it. Had mine for about a year and a half. One of the best things about it is if you get sick of the amp (happens when you play a lot) you can always use it as a 2x12 cab for other amps. I once plugged a VHT Special 6 into the champion speakers with a van damme cable, and man that little 6w amp sounded huge, deep and rich through those speakers. Been meaning to plug an AC15 onto them but haven't found the time. Cant go wrong at that price for a C100. Mega useful amp.
