      I do hope the guys go back and watch this video. The Boss and the Marshall sounded terrible. Not sure if it's because of post processing or mic'ing or what, but the Marshall and Katana both sounded like pure ass. I've heard demos of the Code and Katana and none of them sounded THAT bad. Based on this, the Fender was the clear cut winner, for me, followed by the Orange, and the katana and code in a dead heat for last.

      I spent one hour with the Katana at a big box retailer. No matter what I did, I could not produce a tone that inspired me and this is coming from someone who has owned nearly every modeling amp ever made. The hype surrounding this amp had me thinking I was going to leave the store holding the box as if it was Christmas in September. Nope. Left totally unimpressed. Spent another hour with the constantly slagged Line 6 Spider V and was blown away by what I was able to create, just from digging into the options buried within. Just goes to show ya....we all hear what we hear and like what we like. Glad the Katana crew love 'em but I'm just as happy toying around with my Spider V. It sounds every bit as good as my Vetta head once you get beyond the presets and really start creating your own tones and yes, to my ears as well the Fender's tone was the most organic. The Champion sounds like a real amp being goosed whereas the Code and Katana...again, to my ears, sound like digital amps being pushed by $50 dirt pedals.

      @jaredhind 6 лет назад +1

      I think it really depends on what "strength" of music your playing and how good of drums you have. If your playing a lighter rock like punk or alt then you dont really need a huge volume you just need it to mix well, but if you do metal or death metal or some straight screamo bs you want a louder sound to match.

      @ryjawa 4 года назад +4

      @@barnabydelabilliere6740 Many venues have a PA system, so it's more important to find the one that sounds the best, volume is pretty irrelevant to an extent as it will be mic'd and played though the PA.

    Fender for clean to classic rock, Katana for hard rock to extreme genres ... Also Katana has nice acoustic mode ...
    and when you do small valve amp, pleas pleas pleas add (at least as honorable mention) Laney CAB12 (I actualy tried it in music store and its just amazing in 1 watt mode, esp with P90 or PAF humbucker loaded guitar)

    RMS or 'root mean squared' is a measure of the average wattage used by the amp. Because we use A.C. power is oscilates back and forth between peak voltages. Rms is just the average between those 2 peaks

    I own the Orange 35rt and I love the clean channel. The gain is great until you add to much, for my taste. If I didn’t have the Orange I would go with the Katana. The Code didn’t sound that good to me and even when I tried one I was not impressed with the sound but the app feature is pretty cool. Fender was good on clean but didn’t like the dirty all that much.

    It think some people would agree with me on this:
    1)Boss Katana - Luscious cleans, spank 80's, 90's distorted and crunchy tones, nice 10/10
    2)Fender Champion 40- Surprisingly nice cleans, cool all rounder channels/ gain stuff. 8.5/10
    3)Orange Crush 35RT- Even though a bit boxy, it still is old school on cleans and gain still damn good if you are into it 6.5/10 for me
    4)Marshall Code 40 - Give a piece of cardboard a speaker, an app and buttons= Marshall Code 2.3/10

    Personally,
    I really like the Orange crush 35rt.
    However I also like the fender.
    I'm not a fan of the boss amplifier or the marshall.
    The best amplifiers on the market in my opinion are the following:
    Fender champion amplifiers,
    Orange crush amplifiers,
    Marshall MG amplifiers,
    And Blackstar HT1 and HT5.

    Owned a Champion 100 - LOVED the cleans and the reverb, but nothing else. Sold it and bought a Katana 2-12. Haven't regretted it for one second. It's clean is not quite at the Fender level (although the 'acoustic' setting gets close), but for an all around great sounding amp that does every genre (and effects) really well - the Boss Katana is the way to go.

    The Orange is cool, love the straight forward analog simple controls, unfortunately it doesn't sound worth buying in person. The Code sounds sooo much better when set up properly. It can suffer from a crap ton of settings and I wasn't all that thrilled by the presets. The Fender Champion 50 xl looks really good, but I'm seeing bad stories regarding a reverb issue.

    • @Konsaliki
      @Konsaliki 6 лет назад +3

      True. The JCM 800 model also does a really good job. It's the JVM and DSL models that don't do the trick. And I'm fairly sure they used the JVM model in that demo. Sometimes it makes you think they deliberately want the CODE to come across sub par.

    • @robertcuff5704
      @robertcuff5704 6 лет назад +2

      Tenkterian I was talking about the "Plexi" setting not the JCM 800, but that one also is quite accurate, i find it is slightly muddier than the plexi one.

    • @Konsaliki
      @Konsaliki 6 лет назад +2

      Robert Cuff I know, that's why I wrote "also". ;) But you're right, the Plexi model is great. Basically all vintage style preamps on board are quite spot on. It's the modern, gainy ones that sound a bit cheap.

    • @robertcuff5704
      @robertcuff5704 6 лет назад +2

      Tenkterian oh lol i'm sorry i read that wrong, ya i use the JCM 800 setting for Tom Morello songs and it sounds spot on. but the plexi setting is so great for classic marshall stuff like AC/DC but if you turn up the gain a little, you would be surprised how close i got it to Adam Jones' Tone from Tool

    A word about the Code, for all the haters. I had one about a year ago and went through the presets, tweaked a bit here and there and returned it after a couple of hours at home. I thought it was awful. I recently traded for a Code 50 and decided to give it some more time. Here's what it boils down to (I play a SSS Strat, btw). It does a few things very poorly, like high gain. It does a lot of things good enough for most, like cleans and blues tones. BUT, it does one very significant thing VERY well. If you want a great hard rock/classic rock tone, set the preamp to Plexi, the power amp to Marshall Classic 100 Watt and turn the cab emulation OFF. Roll off the treble to 2-4 depending on your guitar, set your mids to 12 oclock and the bass to 7-9. Gain about 8 and volume to 5+. You now have the best Plexi sound you could ask for without paying thousands of dollars. Add a bit of overdrive or Guv and you're in classic metal territory. Oh, and BTW, when Cap was showing the noise gate at the end of the video, he had the thing turned nearly all the way up to make it choke off his sound like that! And the hum he showed with it off could have been easily addressed by turning the gate up to about 1.8 or so WITHOUT destroying the tone. It was a VERY dishonest demonstration of the Code noise gate!

    In a previous video on Rob's channel titled "Orange Crush Guitar Practice Amps - New for 2015" Rob and the Captain both praised the clean sound of the Orange Crush amps. They even confirmed the fact that these amps take pedals very well in front of their clean channel. In stark contrast to that review, they clearly mentioned different opinions about the same clean tone of the same amp in this video!...Rob said it's plasticy while the captain said it's boxy! This is really interesting and I wonder whether their ears heard another sound from the same amp after two years. I have tried this amp three times in a music store and I can confirm it really doesn't sound plasticy at all (not the best but quite acceptable). I trust this channel so much, but I find it hard to justify the inconsistency between the two videos.

    Root Mean Square is a way of talking about an 'average' performance vs a peak value.
    The idea behind using the RMS is that taking square root of the average deviation squared is more computationally tractable than finding the average of the absolute values.

Legit debated selling my Recto to buy the biggest Crush - tones are that good and get the reliability of solidstate.
