    like 5 years ago my mom gave that fender for christmass, I like it because it looks cool and used more as a decoration because of how crap it sounds. I moved to another country to study and dont have money for an amp and that little fender is the only thing I could take with me other than the guitar, so basically im still playing thanks to that toy fender, it found its pourpose and Im happy with it even though it sounds very bad. Thanks mom!

It's like shitting on the lesser quality of mp3 sound vs a good vinyl set-up, and so dismissing the idea of an mp3 player entirely, losing out on the option of having music no the go when a vinyl set-up just isn't an option. As a fellow owner of a blackstar fly 3, I gotta say that this is a rather fair representation, actually. Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome little box for when you just wanna plug into something quickly and jam out, and it's waaaaaay better than the other mini amps. Hell, I'd say that it's even better than that old 10w Ibanez amp I used to have when I just started out. However, it does seem like the katana mini is just doing it somewhat better. I'll have to try one for myself and compare the two, just for fun.

      not quite twice. Boss Katana Mini 99 usd. Blackstar Fly 3 60 usd. Although, for 99 bucks you can buy several small combo amps all of which would probably be better for small room practicing. Line6 Spider 15 or even a Blackstar CoreID 10

    My theory without knowing much about these amps is that the reason the Fly 3 sounds great and the rest sound terrible is that the rest are built like just any other amplifier but less of it, but the Fly 3 I'm guessing is built in a completely different way more like a Bluetooth speaker with modeled amp sound running into it.

    Gain = Half way between 8 and 9 o'clock

    OD = Off

    I like my Legendary 7-100 Pignose. The trick is to crank it to full volume and then clean up the sound using the guitar volume knob as required . Tone can be altered a lot by the amount the case is opened. Best sound is obtained when placed on a solid surface, such as the floor, rather than a table top. Optionally connect to guitar amp or PA ;)

    I bought the Fly a few weeks back. I was aware of the Katana and had seen demos when I bought the Fly. While the Katana is undeniably better purely as a mini amp, certain key features drew me to the Blackstar instead.
    Once you add the extension cab to the Fly, not only do you get stereo delay (which is a cool effect), it will also double up as portable laptop/tablet/phone speakers with proper stereo separation. In situations where space is at a premium, I can leave the extension cab at home and just take the main unit.
    The problem I have with the Katana is its size. If I need something small and portable, the Fly is a good size. If I need more volume than the Fly can provide, I'd be looking for a larger amp than the Katana Mini. It sits smack bang in the middle of two different use case scenarios and I personally think it would be a compromise for each of them.

      Mykyta Panarin thanks for the reply! Your right it's not really a shoot out to see which is the best...its more a side by side comparison of the tones/sound that the best from each of the marquee amp brands offer for those of us that don't have the opportunity to demo in person at a music store along with the opinions or banter we've all come to appreciate from Chappers and the Captain.

    I think the Fender actually kind of does a respectable, 60s, ripped speaker or dying battery thing that worked well with Rob's 70s funk riff. The Blackstar Fly plus its extension speaker actually make great computer speakers as well as a nice practice amp.
