So raisin pie evokes memories for many. When I was young, my parents operated a small town cafe. We were cared for my a dear older woman we lovingly called Grandma Mandy. At dinner we took turns getting the dinner pan. It was cake pan like with scoops of mashed potatoes, a small bowl of vegetables and meat. The pan was covered in foil and on top of the foil cover was a pie plate with small slivers of homemade pie. My favorite in the whole world was raisin.
Oh. This is wonderful. We used to make them 60 years ago, and my grandmother probably was making them 100 years ago. It is time to make another one. Oh yea. We call them funeral pies because we made them for the church meal after the funeral. Well, no funeral, but raisin pie it is. Thanks so much.
Sure brought back some memories of a homemade pie my Aunt made. She would make a coconut pie and put a few raisins in it, they would be plump and soft. Thank you for sharing made my day. ✝️💟
so glad to see this raisin pie recipe I love them will try it soon I am 77 and have not had one in a very long time thank you for your your videos I really appreciate and enjoy them God bless you and your family
Oh my gosh!! My great grandma used to make this pie… I had forgotten until I saw this recipe because no one else in my family made this pie. Thank you!!!
I hope this recipe is as amazing as it looks. I haven’t had a good raisin pie since my mom passed, she was the only one I ever knew that could make a goood raisin pie.
My mother used to make raisin pie. I didn't like it but it was my oldest brother's favorite. She put it in a pie contest and it got honorable mention in the Kansas City Star paper years ago.
*My Mom always called it a raisin cobbler.* *Thank you for doing it. I never watched her make it and she left 4 years ago.* *So it brings back so many memories. She is the only person that I had ever saw make it, until now.* 💔😭
My Dad, born in 1913, just to give an idea of when he lived, was always asking my Mom to make raisin pie. I thought that it was good, but never got to eat much because it seemed to disappear really fast. I did not have a recipe ...so glad you did this video!☮️❤️💥🌈🌎😇😇😇😇😇😇😇🐯🦁🦄🇺🇸
I know that this is an older video, but boy would I love a video on just working dough, and especially dough for pies and sweet stuff. I have not mastered the pie dough thing yet, and hope if there is a video by you or another that someone can point me to it. MANY THANKS. Will try this one, definitely.
The pie looks great, and I will try one. But the tasting and your well-deserved forehead kiss brought me to tears. You are such a special couple of folks. Truest soulmates!!
There was a recipe on the back of a bag of brown sugar once upon a time. I made a raisin pie from that. My husband told me he liked raisin pie which I hadn't heard of so I wanted to make him one. I don't know where that recipe is so I really must try yours. Thanks for sharing your sister in-law’s raisin pie recipe.
I made a couple of these today. My grandma always made raisin cream pie for her 17 kids. After she passed I took over that tradition and always make it for the family holidays and get togethers. Your recipe is different then mine but looks so good.
My mother use to make a raisin pie every Thanksgiving and Christmas. I had no idea how she did it, I just always love eating a slice! Now I know how to make one! She passed away almost 4 years ago at 92 years old. I never thought to ask her about that pie. Thanks for sharing your family recipe!
I was just visiting my 85-year-old brother yesterday. I remarked that I needed to make a raisin pie and a rhubarb pie sometime. Rhubarb is just starting to grow. He said that he loved both and he had not had a raisin pie in a long time! My husband's favorite pie is raisin and then rhubarb. So, these two will be getting both of them soon made by this youngster (70 years old) - lol. Isn't it just amazing when you think about making something and the recipe just pops up! The Lord and I share a sense of humor!
Thanks Mrs . Lori . For sharing your Sister-In-laws . Raisin pie recipe . My Mother-In-law used to make them . They were so delicious . Back in the depression . You had to make do with what you had . Happy Thanksgiving . Mrs. Lori , Mr. Brown And Family .🦃

And plumping your raisins before adding them to the pie...my mother always did this for our oatmeal breakfast. Thanking you so much for sharing your precious recipe's and making some of the best of memories to surface from the past! God Bless!

When ever Granny Robinson was coming to visit mom always had her favorite a raisin pie for her. Mom would always ask her what she wanted for dinner (lunch in the South) and she'd get whatever she wanted.
I just loved watching this video, as usual. Mama used to make raisin pies for Daddy before she moved Home to Heaven a few years ago. I need to make one for him.He loves Hickory Nut pie, too. Have to ever made one of those? 🙂
Miss Lori, have you ever seen a raisin cake? I seem to remember it being 4 layers, with raisins in it and in a cool whip like frosting. It was always better the second day (if there was any left) a wonderful family friend always made it for Thanksgiving and Christmas she's passed away and here i am with no recipe. Thank you, I love learning new things from your videos❤
This is so much like my mom's recipe. They lived through the "hard times" of the depression and WWII and farmed a small piece of land in south western Manitoba(Canada) and they had to make things stretch so she used just 1 cup of raisins and 2 cups of whole milk from the cows she milked herself. Mum made this pie when we were growing up and I still love it today and I'm 61 yrs of age. Thank you for sharing with us. I love your Arkansas accent. We lived for one year in Kansas, when I was 8 rys old, right down in the the south west corner near the Oklahoma border. At that age a kid is like wet clay and I picked up the local accent so much that when we moved back to Canada everyone thought I was born in the states. To this day when the Star Spangled Banner is played my eyes well up and I remember that wonderful carefree year as a boy riding my bike in our small town with my first dog running beside me. I'm tearing up as I write this so will leave off with many thanks and good wishes to y'all.
More than 60 years ago when I was a little girl, I went to stay with my grandma and while I was there she made me a raisin pie and I loved it. It was my new favorite! When I got home, I told my big sister about the raisin pie. "You mean mincemeat pie," she said. As if I couldn't tell the difference between mincemeat and raisins. No, I insisted, it was raisin pie. "It couldn't have been raisin pie," she said, "because there's no such thing as raisin pie." I knew she was wrong, because I'd had raisin pie, but there was no use trying to convince my big sister. So for years I went on saying that lemon meringue was my favorite, but secretly knowing it was my 2nd favorite. About 10 years later, a pie shop opened in our town and my sister and I went to try it, and there it was, right on the menu: raisin pie! I was so excited! "See?" I crowed. "There is TOO such a thing as raisin pie! When Grandma Tony made me raisin pie that time, you said there was no such thing." "What are you talking about?" she said. "I never said that. Of course there's raisin pie." My sister could be maddening sometimes. 😁 Thanks for bringing back the memory of Grandma Tony's raisin pie. Most of the ones I've seen since then use sour cream, but I think my grandma's was closer to yours.

My first job after high school it was a friendly place to work. Every one got along n was like family. One of my Co workers got to craven what he called bug pie. Now the bug pie was actually a rasin pie. Our break room was a full kitchen so one night (we worked night shift) one of us ran 2 machine his and our own (which was n easy job for 1 person as the machines were acme automatic screw machine ) while he whipped up his bug pie. It was a very good pie n a nice desert for all of us on our lunch break. The one 1 pie was just the right size as there was only 6 people working that night shift. 1 slice each😁 lots of fond memories of a family like work place .
Thank you so much! I have had sour cream and rasin pie years ago at church! The amazing soul who made it had passed but I can go off of your recipe and try to recreate it!
