- Try it before you pass judgement. This is a really yummy recipe!
Triple recipe pie crust (dough for crust and cover)
2 cups raisins
2 cups water
1/2 dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 tablespoon of butter
Heavy cream
White sugar
Line a 9” pie plate with pie crust dough. Save enough to cover top completely
Place raisins and water in a saucepan and bring to a low boil. Boil for 5 minutes.
Mix together cornstarch, cinnamon, salt and brown sugar until well combined.
Reduce heat on raisins and stir in dry mix. Mix well and stir until thick
Stir in vinegar and butter. Cool if desired.
Pour raisin mix into pie crust. Top with remaining dough. Seal edges and cut vent holes.
Brush top with heavy cream and heavily sprinkle white sugar on top.
Bake at 425° for about 30 minutes until brown.
You can serve this warm but I prefer cold.
Thanks for watching and enjoy

My mom's recipe for raisin pie has no sugar added, orange juice instead of vinegar, and also 1/4 tsp ground cloves & allspice (And I also go through the two cups of raisins de-stemming, totally worth it to me to avoid that RUDE crunch lol)
Love raisin pie, and love introducing it to new people 🤗 Thanks for keeping this classic alive!
Love the orange juice idea! Even throw in some zest. Thanks for watching!!!
Raisin squares, my mom makes these!! So good!!👍😁
Send the recipe if you have it. Would love to try it. Thanks for watching!
I don't have it but this recipe would be very similar. She would use a shallow baking sheet or cake pan which can be a pain. All the edges when done would be separated and the center used to make squares and powdered sugar on top. 😁 Also I added some whiskey to the raisin mixture and yum😋
Reminds me of the raisin squares that my late grandmother Frances used to make for me after she got the recipe from a Scottish lady in her senior citizens group because I have always loved anything that involved raisins or mincemeat for that matter. I reckon I'm weird like that...🤣✌🏼
Me too! That sounds amazing. I will look and see if I can find a recipe. Thanks for watching!
Some of my forebearers were Minnesota Swedes, and they insisted on seeded Muscat raisins and instead of the butter and vinegar, they used about ½ cup of sour cream. One of my great aunt's also insisted on beet sugar and used a tablespoon of dark rum instead of the vanilla (she had a reputation as a rebel).
Another good use for raisins is the famous Scottish bar cookie called, "fly cemeteries."
Never heard of them. I just looked it up. Looks amazing!!! Definitely on my to try list. Thanks!!!
@@TastinAround Looking forward to the video.
Very interesting recipe! Looks fantastic. We're going to make this one! Maybe we'll try a variant with rhum, too.
Let me know how it goes! Thanks for watching.
Love your ALL-CLAD's can't beat quality cookware, love the raisin pie also.

Thanks so much for your comment and thanks for watching!
My mom made this pie for the holidays.
I just saw a recipe for a Raisin Cream Pie. Might have to try that!!
Thanks so much for your comment and thanks for watching!
I have to make this, even if it's just for me..
I, like you, have always loved raisins.
Love 💞😘 this very easy raisin pie recipe. I'm going to make it. Thanks 👍 for explaining it so clearly so I can understand & putting the recipe down below so I can write ✍️ it down for keeps.
Thanks so much for your comment and thanks for watching! Let me know how the pie goes for you!
Looks delicious! Must make one soon.
Sounds delicious to me!

I love raisin pie! My mom used to make it but no one seems to make it for years until u tube lately where I came across the recipe, so thank you for this
Thanks so much for your comment and thanks for watching! It has to be one of my favorite pies.
Beautiful pie. Do I need to make the sound effects when I cut the vent holes
Yes you do, lol. Let me know if you try it!
Tomorrow is Father's Day, so it's baking in the oven as I type this. Raisin is Dad's favorite pie! Thank you for the recipe tutorial!
You are very welcome. Hope he has a great Father’s Day!
@@TastinAroundThe Pie was a hit & Dad loved it..... First slice was after lunch & I know he will have another slice (probably a la mode) after supper ☺
Sour cream raisin pie is my favorite.
You inspired me to try it. In fact, it’s the current video that I’m putting out today. I hope you don’t mind. I mentioned you You were 100% right it’s amazing. So good. Thanks for introducing me to it.
Reminds me of my grandmother's pie. Oh how I miss it.
It is very "old timey"! I absolutely love the taste. My grandmother made the best green beans... I would give anything to know her secret.
Thanks for watching!
Me, too! My Mom-Moms was so good; making her recipe for my brother tomorrow for his birthday. When he was little he called it BEAN PIE because he thought the raisins were pinto beans. lol
@@colleen5155 Love how foods bring back memories. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your bean pie!
My grandma used to soak the raisins in some wine first, and she would use lemon instead of vinegar, but otherwise the same recipe. Oh sometimes I think she put some chopped walnuts if I'm not mistaken, but very rarely. Thanks for the video.
Great ideas! Thanks so much for commenting and watching!
It is interesting how many different versions there are of one recipe. My grandmother's method is very different from this method and no cinnamon. I love raisin pie, it is almost the only raisin based baked good I like. The other two are Lincoln and Lee pudding, and buttertarts.
I would love to try her recipe if you have it.
@@TastinAround As with recipes from older generations, some steps are ambiguous:
3 cups of brown sugar
3 tbls of flour
- Mix brown sugar with flour in a pan at medium heat stirring until the mixture is like caramel.
- Then added boiling water gradually stirring until the mixture is thick (My mother adds about 1.5-2 cups)
- Add raisins to the taste (My mother adds 3 cups) cook at low heat for 5 minutes stirring the mixture, if too thick add water. Remove
from heat.
- Add 1tbls of butter and a pinch of salt
Let cool before making your pie. (I think this makes 2 smaller pies, thin tin plates) Takes a top and bottom crust as well.
My mother does 2 cups b.sugar, 2 cups raisins and 1.5 cups boiling water, same butter, and a 3 tbsp cornstarch slurry. And I think this is for one bigger pie (pyrex style)
Thank you so much. I will definitely try this. May make a video of it with your permission.
@@TastinAround I can't imagine you'd want to do another raisin pie recipe but go ahead. It is tough to make but worth the effort. Don't make it too thick or boil too long or it gets too hard in the crust (don't ask me how I know, lol).
I'm going to make this pie for thanksgiving.
Let me know how it goes!
@@TastinAround Very good but I forgot to add sugar on the crust.
My dad’s favorite too. Haven’t had raisin pie in a very long time.
Anybody "judging' this to be an odd pie recipe must have been born after 1953 or so...sure, it's an oldie, but such a goodie...like most OLDIES..lol THX for your version.
Thanks so much for your comment and thanks for watching!
Found out this is my 89 yr old mothers favorite. Her mother, my grandmother made this pie. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving so I'm gonna make it for her. Your recipe is the only one that comes close to what she described. Glad I found ya. Thank you so much. Gonna make this old lady happy.
I hope it comes close to the one her mother made. Wish her a happy Thanksgiving for me! Thanks so much for telling me! This made my day!!!
What is mince meat?
From Google: Mincemeat is a combination of chopped dried fruits, spices, sugar, nuts, distilled spirits, a fat of some type and sometimes meat. The name is a carryover from 15th century England when mincemeat did indeed have meat in the mix; in fact, the whole point of mincemeat was to preserve meat with sugar and alcohol.
Thank you so much!
Your crust is gorgeous! I heard you, but I don’t know. Gonna have to think on it for a while. I’ll get back to you!
Thanks! It really is yummy! The cream and sugar adds so much. Let me know if you try it!
I tried another recipe but yours looks like it is a better and less sweet one i will try it. i like having the top crust.
Me too! The top crust makes it! Try the sugar trick on the top... it is a game changer! Thanks for watching!
Your pie looks fantastic
Thanks so much!
