I'm 32 and an alcoholic I was sober for years but then fell back into drinking, I definitely have a problem I'm not the type of person that can have 1 drink and be fine I'm the type that binge drinks for days but I'm happy to say that I'm 3 months sober it's not much but it's a start, happy new years everyone.
Don’t drink, it’s bad for your health anyway. No athlete drinks alcohol before they perform, you don’t need all those toxins. Respect yourself and your body. You wouldn’t trash a nice Ferrari either.
41 years here. What a wonderful experience it has been. I have been a fan of Mr. Hopkins as long as I can remember. Let's enjoy ODAAT for our remaining days.
Awesome message Anthony, way to go! I haven't had a drop since 1992 and I've had a wonderful life and most importantly a beautiful wife, children and grandchildren who have supported me along the way!😊
Antony you are my role model for AA , you walk the talk, I hope someday I can meet you in person, I’m 23 sober at 75 years old not a first time winner needed it but wasn’t ready 23 years ago I became ready Happy New Year everyone 😊
What started as a 'dry january' turned out 3 years of no alcohol at all. And i am still happy with that decision and proud of myself! So: a big SHOUT OUT to every one who is struggling with alcohol: be brave, find help! Getting rid from your addiction is tough, but definitely worth it. YOU are worth it!
I wish I could sit and have a long chat with you and give you the biggest hug you have ever had in your life. Many more Happy Birthdays. From Joan in Ireland.❤
You are such a kind man. So very sorry to hear about your home. America’s hearts are broken for all of you experiencing such loss and devastation. Your art has brought so much joy to our lives. We pray for all and suffer with you at this time. We care so very much for you.
same. stopped 2 and a half years ago. I had tried before, unsuccessfully. had many embarrassing nights, many blackouts but after one crazy eventful night I just called it quits. had enough. I was also fortunate enough to have enough inside of me to stop by myself. but a lot of people need the help of support groups and AA and there’s nothing wrong with that! they’re not any weaker, they’re just wired differently and need a different approach. :)
A professional in that work field told me that alcohol is the most dangerous addiction because It affects your cells in a way that can kills you if you try to get doner without medication during the transition.
You are an inspiration, sir. My only wish, as one man on the spectrum to another, is to thank you personally for being who you are, and how relatable I have found your journey in comparison to my own.
Thank you my brother Anthony for such a wonderful message. Happy birthday🎉 congratulations. That decision long ago gave us a lot of enjoyment and to the rest of the world by the things you created. I am 28 years sober myself. No crash, I just needed to.❤
Great admirer of the Welsh actor. A Bridge Too Far, 84 Charing Cross Road, Shadowlands, The Mask of Zorro, Meet Joe Black, Fracture, Bad Company (very funny), Elephant Man (*****!), Silence of the Lambs)... I've witnessed those who crash and burn. I was a hospital orderly when young. Sobriety must be one of the most extraordinary challenges and achievements for anyone.
Congratulations Anthony. You are fine actor and you've developed into a marvelous human being. I would be honored to have a cup of coffee with you. Happy New Year
I have never been an alcoholic, but I have been sober for about 4 years, because my wife takes medication that doesn’t mix well with it. I don’t miss it at all. I do still drink alcohol-free beer and a winery near my parents’ does fantastic alcohol free wine, Champaign and all that. Finally, I appreciate when people like Hopkins who are that famous do something positive with their reach and try to help people. To anyone struggling - as I have struggled with different issues - there is always help, if you want it. It’s not always easy, but you are not alone and you don’t have to do it alone!
Great story and congrats both on the birthday and staying sober ! I have been sober even slightly longer than that, but i have been sober all of my life so i am much younger.
the most impressive thing to me (as someone who never started drinking in the first place) is that he managed to get around as a non drinker in the second half of the 70's and the 80's. I am a child of the 80's and 90's and even in the late 90's your got looked at weird for not drinking alcohol. Today it is way more common that someone does not drink than back then. So with the 49 years he mentioned he did not drink from 1975 onwards. And in the 70's or 80's for an adult to not drink, i don't even want to imagine what he got to hear from people.
14 years sober. Best decision ever. All the best to everyone. I've seen the devil. It appeared to me as a bottle or can. Stayed away from the devil and i have found peace.
34 years for me now! almost same reasons. driving a car, but nothing bad happened, besides me waking up in the car, while standing on a "traffic island" (i am fron germany and hope the teanslation is correct). it was so eye opening. oh, there was another "thing" before that, what should have opened my eyes earlier... but i will not discuss that in public... 😅 happy new year for everybody and i hope you get all your problems fixed. in best case by yourself! if you cant, please reach out for help!

@Didier0002 Thanks
Proud of you! Stay strong tonight. Much love! I'm a addict myself brother. Even day it's work to maintain!

Nobody says 'Clarice' like Anthony, I still have it playing in my mind. An amazing artist/actor ❤️

Long live, Mr. Hopkins! We are grateful to you!

LOVE this guy. Thanks
So cool that he goes public.I am sober now for 25 years
Got a Beer ad right after this.
My grandfather was a heavy drinker and he died at 54 because of it. I was born 8 years later and it breaks my heart that i will never get to know him.
Well being able to stop at that age and being able to stop and reflect at another is truly great. Merry Christmas 😎
