Cyan's swordtech is good when he is paired up with Sabin. Sabin's Fire Dance has the longest animation, which buys Cyan the time needed to charge up the meter. Though I usually only charge it to 4, the quatro strike.
Or just have Cyan go last as everyone else unleashes their spells or moves if he uses his sword tech. Although when you pump him upto lvl90 with at least 20-30 levels of +1 speed, vigor, etc... quadra slam is better than quadra slice due to damage cap 'n all that.
There seems to be some misconception on how the charge up works in pixel remaster. In the SNES you have the bar and have to wait. In the pixel remaster you can choose right away, but the higher level sword techs have a charge up time after the selection. Both still charge up, just in different ways.
The biggest difference being (in the 2014 mobile port & Pixel Remaster) that the rest of the party can act while Cyan is charging. In earlier versions the party has to wait for Cyan to charge up.
In the SNES version the other characters had to wait for Cyan to finish and everyone would have to wait. Exceptions if they were using Dance, Rage or Umaro. A fair strategy would be to party Cyan with Gau, Mog, Gogo or Umaro for that reason.
@@Odbarc In the pixel remaster versions combat speed effects the players actions in various ways including making Bushido near instant, the other versions of the game it doesn't do that. so if playing pixel play with battle speed at max
The Quick spell essentially negates Bushido's drawback, as the charge time doesn't matter because everyone else is frozen in time anyway. I wonder how this list would be, if Quick entered the math... Tempest would probably be first, obviously.
Even with the Quick spell Cyan is better off doing 2x 5000 to 9999 Ultima spells even at lv 99 so Sword Tech still SUCKS and on the PIXEL version despite NOT choosing the Sword Techs from a lv 1 to lv 8 meter the skills still have a take forever charge up time that I still killed all the non bosses at lv 99 even before the lv 4 or lv 7 ones go into effect. So Sword Techs are still worthless AFTER the Floating Continent besides using the lv 1 on to kill Cactuars with Cyan in the party.
@veghesther3204 I just use oblivion to instakill regular enemies as Cyan can't even equip the OP ragnarok sword lol he is katanas only similar to ff5 mystic knight and fft holy sword bs not working with katanas. Boost helps a ton let alone cast slowga. Thanks for the quick spell info (it also works on fft mime's targeting themselves to get an extra turn to move and align to hit with normal class abilities and the caster goes again to be copied) as I generally dismissed Cyan especially when he would take up the menu doing bushido. Edgar's Chainsaw autokill is way better, especially as undead in pixel remaster don't regenerate.
Even that lv 8 Sword Tech is worthless just use Banish instead if you really want to instantly kill all targets instead or have Cyan use 9999 damage Ultima spells instead.
@veghesther3204 cut Cyan a break lol. No way he can compete with Gau's rages, fixed dice rapid fire/black belt high level setzer (boost in console pixel remaster and turning off encounters in kefka's tower to get fixed dice makes this viable), let alone dualcast with speedy Relm, or Terra/Celes easy damage cap.
@@veghesther3204None of the character skills can compete with magic. It's in the story that magic is the ultimate power and so everyone becomes a black/white/time mage once you start collecting and learning enough spells.
On the SNES I would pair Cyan up with members with long turns. Like Terra (Gem Box) and Locke/Celes (Offering+Genji Glove). If Terra is doublecasting something like Ultima or Pearl I can immediately shuffle the turn order to Cyan and start charging Tempest. Terra's casting time for both spells is usually enough of a delay to charge Cyan most-all the way up to 7. Having Dragoon Horn Mog as the 4th character landing 5 hits+proc with the Pearl Lance will give you ample time to charge as well.
Using characters with auto-attacks like Gau, Mog, Gogo, Umaro, or a berserked default attack user (say Fixed Dice Setzer) means the charge time won't prevent them from acting. I usually play with no magicites. That doesn't make Cyan GOOD, though. I just love to use Gau.
@@InsanityForce The advantage with Locke Celes and Terra and Dragoon Horn'd characters though is that their extensive attacks stops the enemies' ATB bars once they've filled whereas the auto-battle characters keep cycling. It doesn't stop the enemy from queuing their attack before Cyan finishes charging--so the enemy will still go before Cyan--but it keeps the enemy from building up more ATB and cycling more attacks while Cyan charges because they still have to wait for Terra/Locke/Celes to finish.
You can actually synergize an entire party around Cyan. All you need is Celes for her Runic ability, Edgar in the Dragoon build(Jump Boots, Holy Lance, and that other relic that increases attacks and jumps), and Gau with a good Rage(though it's a pain to get what you want in a timely manner). Celes can block most magic, Edgar with his jumps works well with Cyan's Bushido gauge, and Gau of course acts on his own once the rage you want is activated.
You missed an even more powerful glitch with Sky. It's affectionately called "Psycho Cyan". If I remember the full process, put him in Sky, equip him with the titanium armor and imp spear, Imp him and berserk him and he will attack relentlessly until the target dies. Careful with this against enemies immune to physical, like the Wind Dragon.
I like that I guessed the number one right. I rember using it the most as a kid and wpuld seldom choose it over Tempest just cuz it takes so long for the latter to charge up while my other party members were getting dunked on by a brachiosaur.
My only real criticism this time would be that I would move Dispatch up to 2 or 1. Taking 4 over 7 is the right impulse, as it takes so long to charge Tempest that you basically could get two 4's in by the time it goes off. But at least int eh meter versions (havne't gotten to PR yet) DIspatch has no charge time and just does a bunch of extra damage. It's usually all you actually need and is the bulk of Cyan's utility. It at least lets him keep up with Edgar and Sabin for a while, even if the Figaro bros are ultimately just better.
Here's a fun thing I've been meaning to try with Retort (Sky?)! Give Cyan the True Knight/Knight's Code, which lets him cover allies with low HP, and have him use Retort. Keep all the other members at critical HP, so that Cyan will consistently cover and counter, and all the other party members can have chances to do their critical attacks.
My opinions of the Swordtechs; [1] Replaces Attack for most of the game and gives you ignores defense. [2] When alone (like your first fight) is even better but those situations aren't really likely. Without bug exploits, easy to ignore the whole game. [3] This can have two major benefits; In low level games high HP enemies can take significantly more damage than other attacks can provide but also it tells you if an enemy can be one shot with Death, Odin, X-zone and really any other instant death attacks. [4] Having four hits can be nice early on. If you have Gau and Celes waiting with her Runic, this could be an excellent move to start charging up after your 4th members command is input. [5] Spammable to keep yourself at full health and/or mana [6] There's only one enemy formation I like using this on (mostly for safety in a low level game) but it's good for hitting formations with bigger numbers (5~6) or vulnerable to stop. [7] Use Quick and then this twice can kill the final boss with enough Vigor. The charge up generally isn't worth the damage and is my least used out of all the sword techs. Exception would likely be made for the Pixel remake but I generally played SNES version. [8] You mentioned it bypasses the on-death moves which proves to be more valuable as you get later into the game (where you're more likely to have the move as well). If you have Vanish, Float Exp. Egg and fight Tumbleweed there's nothing anything can do to hurt you, exp. is almost as good as Tyrannosaur's. PS1 port is kind of horrible with the delay in combat but you can use a Game Shark for it which is better than Game Genie if you have that and like to cheat. GBA version is also great but it removed the Y button change character and kept the X button change character which I don't prefer as my only real complaint. (Lack of buttons being the issue).
A good way to work with Cyan is to not just give him Running Shoes for Haste, but to also switch out his Esper before a level up to one that increases his terrible Speed stat.
Gotta micro-manage every character, lol. Basically doing a low-level run until you get some quality espers and equipment then try to get +1 speed esper ASAP. But yeah, if done properly you'll easily have characters with 100+ vigor, stamina or magic stat ontop of 50+ speed which at that number is like auto-haste, lol. Just get the crusader shield or w/e and stack your dodge to 100+ and farm the tyrannosaurs in the post-ruin jungle.
@@Zombie1Boy Or either not have just him in the party until a speed esper is found (not hard) or only bothering once your have the esper since 50 is all that's really needed.

I think you need to separate the list by game versions as the strategy would differ between the two. On the SNES, not only do you have the slow charge but if you are charging up to 7 or 8 then that means you cannot use any of your other party members in battle and I do believe the enemy still gets to act while you charge. This doesn't matter in the Pixel Remaster as the charge time only affects Cyan.
I was just thinking about this yesterday, so surprised to see it in my recommended lol. I almost always use dispatch/fang though. No charge time, and it does fine damage.
Before I watch I'll post my ranking. Let's see how they line up. 1. Bushido 4 (SNES Quadra Slam) - The charge up time is easy to sneak if you let others attack first. 4 hits, slightly reduced damage compared to attacking once, but it totals more damage. Iffy in speedruns as it takes way longer than just attacking, but it's old reliable. 2. Bushido 1, Fang (SNES Dispatch) - Basically no charge time on SNES, just mash A. Ignores Defense. Don't forget it! 3. Bushido 6 (SNES Stunner) - Cyan's magic power sucks, but the chance to stop is too good to pass up. It's also an AoE and non elemental so there's no chance of hitting the wrong target. Saved me too many times against Demon/Poltergeist and Statue of the Gods Tier 2's Hit. 4. Bushido 7 (SNES Quadra Slice) - Well worth the charge time. Ignores defense leading to massive damage. Takes a while to unlock. 4 random targets but the damage is way more than attacking. 5. Bushido 5, Dragon (SNES Empowerer) - Cyan's magic power sucks but it's an easy way to refill his MP without wasting items. Low damage. 6. Bushido 3 (SNES Slash) - If the enemy is vulnerable to Instant Death this bushido will cut their HP in half (up to 9999 damage) and inflict Sap. It's a good way to fight chunky enemies and peek at their remaining HP. Charge time is basically nonexistent. 7. Bushido 8, Oblivion (SNES Cleave) - If the enemy is vulnerable to Instant Death they die. It's also an AoE. It's also the most accurate Instant Death attack. But it takes so long to charge the rest of the team could have killed them normally. It also unlocks way too late. It's good for the first two tier of the Statue of the Gods where one of the arms and Tools/Machine are vulnerable. 8. Bushido 2 (SNES Retort) - It's a counter attack and Cyan hits as hard as he would casting Flare. It's also non elemental magic for some reason, and Cyan's magic sucks. It's good during the intro fight because he's the only target but after that you're throwing your turn away. Just use Bushido 1 or 4 already.
This biggest problem here is Cyan himself: he's objectively one of the worst characters in the game. A strength-based character whose special move completely outclasses his fight command, and they all have fixed battle power with no regard to his weapon. Cyan hangs out in the back row for the entire game using the same weapon he starts with spamming Fang and Flurry. His most powerful Bushidos aren't worth the lifetime is takes to charge them, and the ones with short charge times are all outclassed by other abilities and spells. The best strategy with Cyan, like all the other characters, is to just turn him into an Ultima factory. He still does more damage that way overall despite his abysmal magic. I love FF6 to death, but over the past 10 years or so, I've realized that the game isn't really designed that well. Aside from the atrocious amount of bugs, the characters are really unbalanced, they can all equip any esper and learn any spells, and they all move towards the same thing in battle if you want to maximize damage (Ultima spam). This really makes me appreciate efforts like the Brave New World hack which, in my opinion, makes the game the way it ought to be.
Love you bringing up Natural Magic games, I feel like it's the only way to play FFVI since it makes character abilities actually useful throughout the whole game. Sure Setzer with fixed dice and offering is still a god damn king but suddenly you see Sabin and Cyan become FAR more useful characters in the late-game as quick examples.
Try a single character challenge with Gogo (swordmaster Gogo) and the following ruleset. 1. Only Gogo. Play the World of Balance normally and in the World of Ruin go straight to Gogo. Only stop to pick up a Swordbreaker. I think that's the name and I know they sell it in one of the shops you have access to when you get the airship. 2. You must have the following skillset for Gogo. Mimic Swdtech (Bushido) Runic Item All of these skills must be active at all times so.... 3. You must have the Swordbreaker ot Gladeus equipped at all times. These are the only 2 weapons Gogo can use that enable both skills. There may be others that qualify but can't be equipped by Gogo, I don't remember but... 4. No Merit Award. Self-explanatory and I'm not sure if Illumina or Ultima Weapon enable runic and swdtech. When Gogo is the only party member Mimic copies the last move you use. So if you charge up a swdtech and Mimic it, you can use it with no charge up until you switch to another Swdtech. You have heals and damage built in but it plays very fun and different to a regular play-thru. So bosses you have to brute force swapping heals and quarda-slam. I have completed this challenge up to Kefka on the android version. FF6 and Chrono Trigger are my favorite games of all time so I like challenges like these when I replay the game. I've always thought it would be a fun challenge to give someone else And I'm thinking about replaying it myself And Actually beating kefka with it. Juat wanted to share, feel free to give it a shot. Edit: forgot to mention, you can cheat for Cyan's dream to get all swdtech akills unlocked. It is damn near impossible to do it with just Gogo because of Wrexsoul. Also for party splits like Phoenix Cave and Kefka's tower you can just do one side with Gogo, exit, and do another side with Gogo and have moogle charm on the other party. Kefka's tower has alot of resets with the 3rd party but you can jusy deck someone out to survive and run from all battles (if possible).
Another nice list! I was curious on the Tempest vs Flurry placement, which way you’d lean with it. I have to agree, due to the lateness of getting Tempest plus its long charge time. And the brokenness of Sky in SNES is hard to argue with it getting high placement. Well done, my dewd! 👍
the problem with this list is that he doesn't really choose which version he reviews and we get a weird mish-mash of ideas. In the original game the charging is so long that #6 and #7 shouldn't be put higher than #1 unless you use them with Quick, while on the PR, since the charge time is the same for all abilities, #4 shouldn't be higher than #7. in the PR, #2 should also be very low because it's crap. My conclusion : this video makes no sense.
Which is honestly better, as instead of having to wait (and have enemies attack you if in active mode) the other party members can actually act instead of staring at Cyan’s charging. @@Bdewd
But Cyan still sucks since by the time the Sword Techs appear on screen I already killed all the enemies to begin with even Gau's Rages are better though in the Pixel version I could still have Gau trigger a rage on screen after all the enemies are already killed as well.
Been playing FFXIV and thought it was odd samurai skills had cast times. I completely forgot that there was actually a precedent for this in the series.
The cast times are mostly to let the animation play out. Iaido attacks wouldn't be very cool if the player could simply skip the animation of you sheathing the sword, lol.
I always found it funny Cyan (and to a greater extent Sabin) really benefits from pumping their magic stat with espers since despite their appearance a lot of their higher end tools are magical. Oddly enough Edgar's the opposite, with a lot of his best tools benefiting from strength.
Pumping up Cyan's magic stat is mostly for his Wind God setup (single or dual Kazekiri/Tempest with Master's Scroll/Offering), pretty good for random encounters against enemies not resistant to wind damage, but at the cost of weakening your Bushido techs due to the way Master's Scroll/Offering works.
@@HAVOCprojects While true, I mostly meant this in the context of "If you're using this character's unique moveset, you're better off pumping this stat in spite of how weird it seems."
for me to enjoy Final Fantasy's best experience in gameplay? is very simple, i never spam the attacks or more than 3 to 4 times only on Spells, i not even once do i ever spam, making the battle experience feel more real like anime, because!? in an anime or movie you only see that spell once and that's it, and i found more use of it, and end the battles much quicker even without using the spell a second time. which by then, the battle is over. thanks to leveling up and strategizing my battles clearly.
The funniest thing that ever happened to me in SNES FF6 was while waiting for Cyan to use Oblivion after the charge time, he got zombified. When the move went off, it was an instant TPK and game over.
swordtech abilities suffer from a fundamental flaw: you have to wait to use them at anything higher than 1. by the time you get to 4 or higher, all the enemies are dead because all the other party members acted first. it really should have been a menu based system, like edgers tools.
you would have to follow a character stat spreadsheet to figure all that out and it depends on when you get bahamut. HP and MP is the only thing you get from level ups so i tend to worry about other stats on esper bonuses.
I haven't played the pixel remastered nor do i plan on it . But on the SNES in the early game just do 1 , mid game do 4 , end game use quick and then double cast 7 . The best part about cyan in the late game if level him to 110 in vigor, is the fact that he doesn't need the sky render to hit for max damage (giving you 2 end game spears to make edgar and mog dragoons so they can do the pogo stick thing if you want) . He will have a sheild like the force sheild and he can be in the back row with your choice of relics , i prefer the marvel shoes and an economizer
Must admit this is one area i love in the pixel remake on mobile - can literally just pick the skill you want to use as opposed to timing the bar. Not much of a cheat.... not like the bar was difficult anyhoo!
Pixel Remaster made a huge buff to Cyan, since it no longer wastes your other characters' turns. Flurry has a charge time but does 2-3 times the damage other characters do in a single action throughout most of the game, well worth the wait. The exception is Edgar, who is just an overpowered character, especially if you're avoiding leveling up your characters. Bushido does more DPS than Blitz, but Blitz is more versatile. If you have high stats, Flurry outclasses both Blitz and Tool since it can bypass the 9999 cap. Master Scroll and effective use of Genji Glove and Ultima Weapon will outclass Flurry but those are limited equipments.
auto battle also helps to hide the charge up times a bit in the pixel remaster but since this was a list *trying* to rank them across 3 variations of the same game that's where i started to have troubles and issues with some placements lol
Thanks for your assessment on this all time Legondary Classic! I remember well that Bushido Was always one of the best moves for this iconic character*" Great Job!❤🎉
Bushido 2 is misranked it should be number one. Sky is broken in both GBA and SNES due to the psycho Cyan glitch where he'll counter his own counters till all enemies on screen are dead.
only reason it's not number 1 is due to having to try to rank the same move over different variations of the game. trust me, if it was a snes exclusive list that ish would be ALL OVER #1 haha
It wouldn't be so bad if you choose the time in the select bit rather than waiting for it, which delayed your other teammates from being able to do anything until Cyan had his turn completed, dragging the whole party down is what hurts Cyan. If that wasn't the case and it was just him being delayed, then you can just caste quick and haste on him and even if he is a little slow, it not so bad overall.
That's a pretty good list. Yeah, I would have a conflict with Tempest and Flurry. Tempest is late in the game and very time consuming, yet it's very powerful. If you have Active feature on, enemies will hit you while on that time. Flurry is better than that. Sky (Retort) sounds OP, however never used it.
If you're playing a low-level game, this list looks entirely different. I mean, you mostly don't use Cyan, but if you do, Tiger (Slash) becomes really useful.
I use cyan in the gba version to cheese bosses as i low lvl my way through the world of balance with psycho cyan so i can optimize lvl ups in the world of ruin
have you played the Brave New World romhack? it reworks most things in the game and makes cyan an absolute monster by tweaking the more useless SwdTechs, and a lot of bugfixes so Psycho Cyan is gone sadly
Sadly that's why when looking at these lists, it's more a rank of "if this was my only option" otherwise it's just ultima spam and as you mentioned for equipment and genji/offering :/
I think my biggest problem with most special abilities in FF VI is how many of them just become not worth the action economy of turn based games, when you could just be using a super busted Attack command powered by relics, or just having everyone bomb the enemies into the stone age with Ultima, or what not. Same problem I have with the majority of the moves added in the fan-made FF1 Renaissance. A whole lot of "why would I use this over just Attack" with some exceptions. It's really, really hard to balance this kind of thing. Especially when the creators have to make a game where they don't know if the player will actually go get all the optional, best relics or espers, or how much they'll grind.
@@Raizhen010 I mean yeah, but you can do that in any game, short of a challenge that literally makes the game impossible. Take the Crissaegrim in SotN for example. Yeah you could "just not use it", but its existence takes up a drop that could have been there that wasn't ultra-busted. I just prefer the way Valkyrie Profile did it, where all the super broken characters and items were exclusively post-game, and could only be used in the challenging post-game secret dungeon. That way you got to have all the crazy power, but only within an environment where it made sense, after the main game was done.
@@GuiltyKit Meh, I like havin super powerful ways to become overpowered. Just played Star Ocean Second Story R and I wouldn't want the crafting systems removed or relegated to post game. Yeah, I can make weapons that have over a thousand attack power before I leave the first continent, but I like it that way. It's an option I have and that's all it is. An option. FFVI allows me so many options to play the game. Using things like the unique skill command each character has, using super powerful magic, setting up dual wielding attackers, using cool setups like dual tempests for double wind slash. I wouldn't want those things removed just because they're too powerful. Same way I wouldn't want Materia neutered in Final Fantasy VII, or orbments being neutered in Trails.
@@GuiltyKit I have no issues with an easy mode being included, but if someone wants to either use a guide to break a game or just figures out how to use the mechanics to become overpowered with little effort, I don't see how that's ruining the balance for other people. You don't have to teach everyone magic in FFVI nor do you have to abuse the crafting system in Star Ocean games. They are simply options for the player to explore. Most games that are so finely tuned tend to have very little options for the player. A hard mode option would be better imo, which would force the player to use the overpowered mechanics. Universe in Star Ocean Second Story R expects you to abuse crafting just like Nightmare in Trails expects you to fully abuse the orbment system optimally.
@@giellesfairon1745 the creators of FF are Japanese so they'd pronounce it カイエン or Kaien, like how it's written in Japanese. If it was meant to be pronounced like the color, his name would be シャイエン/Shaien but it's not. Can't argue with the original source language!
i feeeel like his mechanic is lacking (obviously) i think it needed some kind of bonus to him DURING the charge time. like, a 'trap' that would trigger if he is attacked during the charge. i think it should be like you are trying to 'predict' the enemy behaviour. Sort of like Celes' "runic", you are predicting a magic attack that you nullify and absorb. basically, every bushido should have some kind of behaviour like 'Retort'. setting traps is so satisfying and it makes it feel like hes actually doing samurai sht. even boosting his attack if he gets hit during his charge time would make the longer charge time beneficial.
we talked about this on stream when i saw it and all agree that it's a fricking sick idea and am now super sad that it isn't setup like that. And now i wish to live in a world where this was a truth
I really hated how they changed this in the pixel remasters to be just commands selectable from a menu and the time to execute them is all that changed. It sort of took out the risk versus reward aspect
Ehhhh, I don't get Empowerer before Floating Continent, and while it's niche I wouldn't say it's actually BAD or useless, certainly not for the time it takes to charge up. Slash is more junky. Cleave is absolutely 3rd worst. It can instant Game Over you if you're really dumb about it. After that it's all good. In no way, shape or form, am I at Level 15 for Narshe.
if you could set the level when his turn came up and then control the other characters in combat I wouldn't mind using most of his higher techs.. but that you have to literally wait and let the enemies wail on the entire party while you're waiting makes this ability stupid. Also, 'retort' is good if you give him the relic that makes him protect others as retort does a huge amount of damage. anyway, he's kind of a useless character. I know upping his speed helps with the charging but this is so late game.. cyan is almost a useless character.
Cyan, a manchild? In a game with a guy like Edgar?? And Gua, the litteral man-child? Cyan is like, the third most serious character after Celes and shadow, whos personalities are 'serious woman' and 'serious man'. Cyan faces his inner demons, his fear of technology, and his lack of gillette fusion 5 razors. All after facing a truama that would shatter most of us. Cyan also attracts women in a way Edgar only wishes he could, why? Because Cyan is all man all the time. Like all real men Cyan does exactly 1 gay thing: he likes to make silk flowers. Really, fuck that guy for calling Cyan a manchild, he looks like much more of a man-child than Cyan. Can he even pop off 20 push-ups?

It's not "Sai-Ann." It's Cyan, as in the color, which is pronounced with a hard C sound. "KAI-ann" would be the correct pronunciation. Yes I'm gonna be that guy about this.
@GamerZoneSpeaking well then go by the Japanese characters of the name. It's "Kaien." If they wanted to go with the soft C, they would have used "Saien" instead.
Cyan's swordtech is good when he is paired up with Sabin.
Sabin's Fire Dance has the longest animation, which buys Cyan the time needed to charge up the meter.
Though I usually only charge it to 4, the quatro strike.
Yeah, they're a great duo!
Or just have Cyan go last as everyone else unleashes their spells or moves if he uses his sword tech.
Although when you pump him upto lvl90 with at least 20-30 levels of +1 speed, vigor, etc... quadra slam is better than quadra slice due to damage cap 'n all that.
He's good with Mog and Gau because their abilities make them auto attack.

I thought this was a great list, i also liked the subtle hint you gave at the end when referring to skill 1 as “dispatch”
Subbed
On the SNES I would pair Cyan up with members with long turns. Like Terra (Gem Box) and Locke/Celes (Offering+Genji Glove). If Terra is doublecasting something like Ultima or Pearl I can immediately shuffle the turn order to Cyan and start charging Tempest. Terra's casting time for both spells is usually enough of a delay to charge Cyan most-all the way up to 7. Having Dragoon Horn Mog as the 4th character landing 5 hits+proc with the Pearl Lance will give you ample time to charge as well.
Basically the best way to go about it so he's not holding ya up for sure
Using characters with auto-attacks like Gau, Mog, Gogo, Umaro, or a berserked default attack user (say Fixed Dice Setzer) means the charge time won't prevent them from acting.
I usually play with no magicites. That doesn't make Cyan GOOD, though. I just love to use Gau.
@@InsanityForce
The advantage with Locke Celes and Terra and Dragoon Horn'd characters though is that their extensive attacks stops the enemies' ATB bars once they've filled whereas the auto-battle characters keep cycling.
Celes can block most magic, Edgar with his jumps works well with Cyan's Bushido gauge, and Gau of course acts on his own once the rage you want is activated.
hopefully gau isn't using a rage that casts magic tho or else he and celes just nullify each other D:
could also throw Umaro in there, unless he does the magic thing, plus, go go raging is another option, for multiple rage action, or mog with a dance
It at least lets him keep up with Edgar and Sabin for a while, even if the Figaro bros are ultimately just better.
everytime cyan's turn comes up I just spam the 1 bushido, it's basically a 1.5x normal attack multiplier
Best dude giving good info
I usually use Cyan with Mog, Umaro, and Gau. :)
That is pretty much the best way to get the most out of Cyan's sword skills. 👍
I never wanted to wait for the charge so I just always did Fang.
My opinions of the Swordtechs;
[1] Replaces Attack for most of the game and gives you ignores defense.
[5] Spammable to keep yourself at full health and/or mana
[6] There's only one enemy formation I like using this on (mostly for safety in a low level game) but it's good for hitting formations with bigger numbers (5~6) or vulnerable to stop.
@@Zombie1Boy Or either not have just him in the party until a speed esper is found (not hard) or only bothering once your have the esper since 50 is all that's really needed.

analytics and studies have shown that while cringe, a call to action in a video (be it a singular one, if you throw out too many such as like, comment, subscribe, click the bell all at once) gives someone a "purpose" while watching said video OR just a lil reminder. tho i think the reminder thing is more with longer essay style videos

Fang in SNES is a 10/10 should have included that
I've always been curious about Cyan!
I think you need to separate the list by game versions as the strategy would differ between the two. On the SNES, not only do you have the slow charge but if you are charging up to 7 or 8 then that means you cannot use any of your other party members in battle and I do believe the enemy still gets to act while you charge. This doesn't matter in the Pixel Remaster as the charge time only affects Cyan.
best game ever. period
0 lies detected
Hmm, I didn't think about the Psycho Cyan glitch...
Slight bias on sword tech 2 for sure but that's the speedrunner in me poking out loooooool
Mimic
Swdtech (Bushido)
Runic
Item
All of these skills must be active at all times so....
Just subbed bro
Great video.
Now do one for Gau's rages ;)
@armorvil the charge time still exists in pixel remaster, it just happens after selection
@@veghesther3204 Depends on how you play. I tend to ban magic on everyone but Relm, Terra, and Celes so I can make use of the other unique abilities.
Cyan has the best character theme music
This is completely unrelated to the video, but where did you get that moogle that's on your mic stand?
Square Enix website they have a few plushes :)
Oddly enough Edgar's the opposite, with a lot of his best tools benefiting from strength.
and also giving characters like cyan a bad magic stat, making his moves look bad lol
@@HAVOCprojects While true, I mostly meant this in the context of "If you're using this character's unique moveset, you're better off pumping this stat in spite of how weird it seems."
for me to enjoy Final Fantasy's best experience in gameplay?
is very simple, i never spam the attacks or more than 3 to 4 times only
on Spells, i not even once do i ever spam, making the battle experience feel
more real like anime, because!? in an anime or movie you only see that spell
once and that's it, and i found more use of it, and end the battles much quicker
even without using the spell a second time. which by then, the battle is over.
thanks to leveling up and strategizing my battles clearly.
The funniest thing that ever happened to me in SNES FF6 was while waiting for Cyan to use Oblivion after the charge time, he got zombified. When the move went off, it was an instant TPK and game over.
Oh no...
swordtech abilities suffer from a fundamental flaw: you have to wait to use them at anything higher than 1. by the time you get to 4 or higher, all the enemies are dead because all the other party members acted first. it really should have been a menu based system, like edgers tools.
If you like using him play the IPhone version because you basically choose the technique first and wait for him to cast
do you know if in the pixel remaster version, leveling up at 69-71 with bahamut equiped will give 9999 hp at lvl 99 with all characters?
you would have to follow a character stat spreadsheet to figure all that out and it depends on when you get bahamut. HP and MP is the only thing you get from level ups so i tend to worry about other stats on esper bonuses.
It mostly still DOES same if you were to try for 999 MP by using Crusader at lvs 96 to 99 depending on the party members.
Flurry has gotten me out of very tough spots.
Agreed. I always used Quadra Slam too.
The change actually happened in the iOS/Steam port of FFVI. The pixel remaster kept the change rather than originating it.
Sky (Retort) sounds OP, however never used it.
it's broken in the one version and all the other versions it's not really that good, but boy golly i was a bit biased for that one :D
If you're playing a low-level game, this list looks entirely different. I mean, you mostly don't use Cyan, but if you do, Tiger (Slash) becomes really useful.
looking forward to Gau and Strago next
I forgot if Tempest hits 8 times with the Genji Glove but it made it more worth it if it does
It doesn't :(
It would be great if Bushido actually used Cyan’s weapon strength!
Sub'd just now...looking forward to Gau
FFVI t edition fixes bushido speed quite well. More valuable than in in the original version
I use cyan in the gba version to cheese bosses as i low lvl my way through the world of balance with psycho cyan so i can optimize lvl ups in the world of ruin
have you played the Brave New World romhack? it reworks most things in the game and makes cyan an absolute monster by tweaking the more useless SwdTechs, and a lot of bugfixes so Psycho Cyan is gone sadly
honestly i havent had any desire to play BNW
It's a pity nothing in his arsenal (or anyone else's) really beats Illumina/Atma + Genji Glove.
I just ban magic on everyone but Terra, Celes and Relm. FFVI has a lot of options for how you can limit yourself.
@@Raizhen010 just play games on easy mode then. Then you can feel overpowered all you want and it doesn't mess with the balance for other people.
_IT'S CALLED QUADRA SLAM!!!_
j/k kinda lol Nice Video!
Fun fact: Cyan's name is pronounced like the pepper, not the color. "cayenne" (カイエン/Kaien)
Have heard creators mention his name and it was pronounced like the color.
@@giellesfairon1745 the creators of FF are Japanese so they'd pronounce it カイエン or Kaien, like how it's written in Japanese. If it was meant to be pronounced like the color, his name would be シャイエン/Shaien but it's not. Can't argue with the original source language!
I mostly played the PS1 version and only found Dispatch and Quadra Slam useful. Cyan in general was too slow for my liking.
I think its better in the new you can select it and it freees you up for the otehr charcters it way better in pixel remaster.
I'm SNES biased for this game too
i feeeel like his mechanic is lacking (obviously) i think it needed some kind of bonus to him DURING the charge time. like, a 'trap' that would trigger if he is attacked during the charge. i think it should be like you are trying to 'predict' the enemy behaviour.
I want to love Cyan, I used him as a kid, but he is just too slow... but good list!~
Equip a magicite with speed boosts every level up.
Cyan
Sabin
Edgar
Locke
My main in 1995 lol
First video of yours I’ve seen. Mentioning analytics is a great way to not get a sub.
Fang is goat, because it replaces fight … but is not as good as other character abilities.
I really hated how they changed this in the pixel remasters to be just commands selectable from a menu and the time to execute them is all that changed. It sort of took out the risk versus reward aspect
there's still a charge up time but you do less managing of ATB's during it so I get what ya mean
In almost every one of my plays cyan doesnt make it to kefka tower
Ehhhh, I don't get Empowerer before Floating Continent, and while it's niche I wouldn't say it's actually BAD or useless, certainly not for the time it takes to charge up. Slash is more junky. Cleave is absolutely 3rd worst. It can instant Game Over you if you're really dumb about it. After that it's all good. In no way, shape or form, am I at Level 15 for Narshe.
Moves that negate experience points should be pointed out. Its like run, i wouldn't use it
Calling him a manchild lol
Look man Cyan has been through some things
Man I tried figuring this out in Anthology 20 years ago. Those load times were not good times.
the load times to think about life while the game thinks about what it has to do. good times
if you could set the level when his turn came up and then control the other characters in combat I wouldn't mind using most of his higher techs.. but that you have to literally wait and let the enemies wail on the entire party while you're waiting makes this ability stupid. Also, 'retort' is good if you give him the relic that makes him protect others as retort does a huge amount of damage.
anyway, he's kind of a useless character. I know upping his speed helps with the charging but this is so late game.. cyan is almost a useless character.

should have been a tier list video
👍
Can he even pop off 20 push-ups?
i sure can :D
Magic is too much of a good alternative to his special ability. I do not find Cyan useful for anything beyond his WoR adventure. Nice vid anyway.
I'm .6 of a person
The pixel remake really was terrible in comparison with the original version, was a good attempt but definitely a failed attempt in fans eyes.
Cyan is a bench warmer. Nice story, cool characterization but most other characters brings more to the table in comment.
This is just the sad truth
Just because I'm watching doesn't mean I have to subscribe. This is your first video I'm seeing and i don't even know if I will like it, don't start begging up front, it's a turn off.
Did. You. Seriously. Make. A. Video. About. Cyan. Without. Calling. Him. “Mr. Thou”?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
