Great video...thank you for posting. I have a 95 wide glide and I actually had the carburetor rebuilt a year ago. But recently I changed a leaking petcock and when I finished and test rode the bike, I started getting leakage out through the carb overflow line. I was ready to pull the carb off and rebuild again until I came across your video. Everything you showed worked like a charm and now no more overflow leak and the bike runs great. Saved me a ton of time.
Excellent video, thank you! I love the idea of cleaning it without removing the carburetor. thanks again, David
Thank you. Enjoy!
Great info. Thanks so much. It's where I will start.
I'm having carb problems at this time, and this video may have remedied those problems. Thanks for posting 👍
Be sure to check out some of the details in the description below the video. They may help keep that carb clean.
@@justbehandyThanks. You have a subscription 👊

Great tutorial brother..very helpful
Hope it got your ride back on the road quickly. Enjoy!
You've explained the procedure so we'll I feel like doing this just for hand's on practice and memory. I only fill my bike with Clear fuel, but their are times when it's not available. I'm sure a carb clean is not a bad habit to get into. 🤔👍 Thanks for sharing.
LoL, love the feedback.
Very detailed and good video,
thank you
Thanks bro. I have had carb issues since 99 when I bought my first bike. Dealer changed the carb two times. I finally took it to a bike shop that put an S a S on it biked talked me into camming it,ignition,Vance an hince pipes. This biker dude made my bike run like never before. Now the last couple years I haven't ride hardly at all plus I have two bikes now. 98 heritage and 03 low rider. But the heritage won't stay running without choke. I'm gonna try cleaning carb. Thanks for your detailed vid
What's the best way to dump the gas from tank
Let me know how the trick works for you. To get old gas out, I usually take off the fuel line and drain it in empty gas can. Then I put it in my old car one quart at a time per fill up till it's all gone.
Just Be Handy thanks a lot for the quick reply bro. I will let you know for sure how it goes. Thanks again
Great job. I've had a Heritage for many yrs. Just one more thing I can do to tk care of it, without paying someone else to. Thx!
Thank you for the feedback
thank you so much i will be following your procedure this weekend
please let me know how this works for you.
Thanks for the video. I've got an 03 Sportster xlh883 (anniversary edition). Worked constantly (fixing up houses) so rarely road for over a year and carb seemed to get gummed up. I could start it (eventually), but had to keep the choke all the way opened. Tried riding it, but could not get out of first and could not get far past 10MPH (a little underwhelming) ... and stalled anyway. I went through this and put some Sea Foam in the gas tank ... it is not 100% yet, but it will idle with the choke off and I can ride it with the choke off. Have to go for a while ... but I hit 40MPH ... so hopefully by the time this tank is done, I'll be cooking. Thanks again
Try Berryman B-12, I have a link for it. It works much better than Sea foam, and is around $3
Very good, thank you!
Thanks!
Thanks, that is my first Super Thanks. Enjoy the Ride 😁
I wanted to thank you again for taking the time to make this video. My '93 Evo suddenly developed a problem of only running with choke on. I picked up some carb cleaner and it was like magic. Just got back from a road test and my MooGide is perfect!!
that is Awesome news, and nice bike. Check the description below the video for more info on how to keep the carb clean. Enjoy
5:11 - neat how the air pressure vaporized the gas
Thank you for the comments
good video.
Excellent! Thank you!
Thank you for the feedback. Hope it was useful and got your equipment running.
Great video. Thank you
This was very informative!
Thank for the feedback
Very well done. Very helpful Good teacher
Many thanks!
I'm hopeful this will work but I am a complete novice and am not confident of my abilities here....but going to give it my best shot ...I'm trying to get a bike for sale running again ...
Did it work for you, please let me know? It works 80% of the time, bets having to take the carb apart.
@@justbehandy yes it did thanks again...also...maby a tip to think about I decided on doing was to lean the bike far over to the right side, using supports helad tt the bars...so all the carb cleaner fluid doesn't leak down through the other side potentially into cylinders or anything in that area....I also when finished pulled the plugs and turned the motor over several times to blow any potential fluid from atop the pistons and prevent hydraulicing....maby a bit overboard but simple on my Harley...
righton handy video
Thank you for this video, sure hope it will work on my GL1500SE.
Please let me know how it goes. It works about 90% of the time for me.
Hope this worked for you, and you are enjoying the ride..
Good job, very helpful
Thank you so much for the feedback. Hope this trick got you back on the road riding. Enjoy!
thank you.
Good vid...
Thank you, hope it keeps your bike running smoothly.
This is good information!
Thank You!
I'm Handy....chuckle ;)
I'm guessing the little bit of carb cleaner left over inside the carburetor is ok? Going to try this
Please let me know how it goes. BTW, some people use carb cleaner as starter fluid when they don't have it available, so yes it will be alright
@@justbehandy Hey thanks for the quick reply! I'll let you know how it goes
@@Reithierion would love to hear about how it works for your application.
Can you video this again with it on the bike? I have no idea where to begin with my vt750 shadow spirit. Thanks
Sorry I can't redo the Video again. If you have the single carb version of the Honda 750, you would remove the air cleaner cover, and the air cleaner box. Leaving the carburetor connected between the V or the cylinders. That is the point you would use the method I describe in my video. I hope that helps.
you are awesome
Wow, Thank you. Hope that means you got your bike started and on the road. Enjoy!
@@justbehandy Yes and all because of you..Thanks so much
Blessings Enjoy
Thanks, great video! I tried this with my 2008 Sporty 1200, but it still won't start. The sparks are good, the battery is charged, it turns over, but the motor won't engage. Do you suggest I try this cleaning process again or do you have another suggestion before I take it the mechanic?
If it is that bad you can remove the carb float bowel and remove and clean the jets. It is a bit more involved.
Hi. Thanks for the video... awesome footage of how this stuff flows about in there, hehe. Have a Mikuni carb (stock on a newer DRZ400). Will this method work?
I have a DRZ125 for use when camping. Yes, all carbs have metered air blades that can be used to back flush through. Try it out and let me know how it works for you.
Very helpful clip :)
What brand of the cleaner? Thanks
I used the Farm and Fleet brand, generic carb cleaner. works good. you can use Gumout which can be found just about anywhere. Hope that helps.
Thanks again for watching and taking time to give me feedback. Please let me know if there are any videos that may help.
I got a 99 vn800 ima try this on the bike only runs with choke on n dies when u apply gas
Sounds like the slow jet is fully plugged. You can try spraying the slow circuit with gumout carb cleaner and leave it overnight. If it doesn't work, you will have to close the gas valve, and carefully open the carb float to gain access to the slow jet. The slow jet will have to be removed and cleaned with solvent and wire to remove all build up. Hope that helps
@@justbehandy thanks alot
Do you think it will work on a 50cc stock caferacer choke carb?
It works on all carbs to a point. Never hurts to try. For small engine make sure to take out the spark plug and spin it over a few times while doing this cleaning method.
Can I do this when the carb is installed to the bike?
Yes, the intent was to show how to do this while carb is on the bike, but I took it off to demo what happens on the back side of the throttle. Hope that helps. Also look at the description below the video, I give a few more tips and links to products that will keep things running smoothly. Enjoy the ride!
@@justbehandy Thank you.
What can you use if you don’t have the shop air and you are working in the backyard?
Thank you for watching, and taking time to reach out. The compressed air cans used to clean electronic equipment work well, and the come with a straw. The combo of carb cleaner and air pushing through the build up. Hope that helps.
Thank you! Great idea! I did not think about those small cans!
@manpreetsingh83 😁 Enjoy the ride.. I checked out your site, cool stuff.
Do you need to remove the Carb from the bike before you do this?
@@robberryman2406 sorry for the delay in response. Thanks for taking time to reach out. No, you don't need to remove the carb. I took it off to show what happens to the ports. Enjoy
I dont have those two grooves on my carb that are on it in the video, any suggestions?
What carb is it? Need to identify the air balance port for the slow circuit.
How can u possibly do this on the bike
remove air cleaner cover, remove filter, then follow same procedure of introducing carb cleaner in vents followed by compressed air. no need to remove carb from bike.
Patience ...
great video, will this work on a vtx 1300?
It should if you have a keihin carburetor
this one doesn’t have accelerator pump on it, what year of this carburetor?
This carb is off of a Buell Bast, they did not has an accelerator pump. The focus of the video is the proper ports to unclog the jets without removing the carb. Hope that helps.
@@justbehandy ohhh i see, i thought this was cv40 from sportster, it has the same shape but has accelerator pump on it. i googled the buell engine itself also seem similar with sportster, but buell only has single cylinder
@@aziizuljas3746 it is a CV 40 will accelerator pump delete. Same ports for slow and high circuits, and the procedure will work the same for unclogging the slow jet and main jet. Try it out and let me know how it works out for you.
Hi there, i just purchased a 1996 Heritage softtail, do i have a CV carb?
Yes, if it is the stock cab. The only difference is your carb has an accelerator pump on the side. Even If you have an aftermarket slide carb like the S&S, this method will work for it.
@@justbehandy Thank you. Is there any adjustment that needs to be made to the 2 cables that to to the accelerator?
The cables go to the throttle and the accelerator pump is connected with a small shaft/plunger. Throttle cable adjustment needs to be done only if the carb is not responding correctly and closing correctly when you let go of the throttle. Hope that helps.
Lol, you're NOT going to do this while it's on the bike!!! Good info on carbs for noob tho.
Wanted to show the flow through the slow jet behind the throttle. That was the only way to show it.
Thanks for that video I tried that and it did not work my problem is when I turn the fuel valve on gas comes out of the slow jet and the main jet so I did your technique and turn the fuel back on and it comes leaking out of the yeah I don't know what to do to you
Sounds like your float is stuck open. Try tapping the bottom of the carburetor with the handle portion of the screwdriver. It may loosen it up. Otherwise, you have to turn off the fuel petcock, and remove the bottom of the carburetor/float bowl. If the float needle is dry and chapped, it will need replacement. Hope that helps.
Fantastic video, thanks
Thanks for the feedback! Let me know how it works out for you.
