Their names come from the same Song dynasty passage《八声甘州 摘青梅荐酒》（the eight sounds of Gan Zhou, picking green plums and recommending wine)：“羡青山有思，白鹤忘机” (I envy the mountains' deep thought, and and the white cranes' forgetting of mortal schemes). Other characters' names also have history, like 金如兰 (Jin ru lan) and 蓝思追 (Lan si zhui)'s 君子如兰，思之可追 (A respectable man with principles like a Lan flower, think of him and follow his lead); and 江澄 (Jiang cheng)'s 云阔烟深树，江澄水浴秋 (the misty sky is wide and muddles far-away trees, the river water is clear and bathes in autumn chill). You can definitely see how well read the author is.

Just to clarify wwx was not actually adopted. The complexities of sect brotherhood/sisterhood is weird. He was actually considered a spoiled servant. Chinese call sect mates brother and sister without being related. They dont mean it in the family sense. There was a record keeping they do that for and WWX was not in it.
As someone who has read a lot of danmei.... a lot of it is hard to explain without a lot of contextual examples
WXX also gets called "son of a servant" a few times as well iirc. It's complex yes, but i believe it has to do with ancient chinese not having the words for that kind of bond/relationship and going for whatever sibling adjectives they had instead. Or so i read.

Yes, officially, it’s not stated in either the book or the series (TV or anime) that WWX was adapted. But I think comparable to Western and modern culture, it is acceptable to say so. His relationships with JC and their sister are different than standard sect brotherhood/sisterhood, and closer to the siblings relationship. The evidence is that WWX call JC’s father ‘uncle’ rather than Master/teacher or sect Head like other members of the sect. The only one looked down on WWX and called him a servant was JC’s mother. Actually in ancient time, you only called a person ‘servant’ if they had signed a contract to sell themselves for a life-time, or if their parents had done (servants’ children automatically become servants themselves). WWX’s mother definitely was not a servant and his father might have been (not mentioned in details in the book) but surely was freed (servants could only be freed by their masters/owners) as he left the sect to travel with his wife.
A bit more on the brotherhood/sisterhood: if they all shared the same Master/teacher, then the Master/teacher is considered half a parent and the brothers and sisters would be kind of like half siblings, which was why sometimes the sect brotherhood/sisterhood love relationship could be considered a taboo. But in a big sect, with many Masters/teachers, the sect is just like a big boarding school, and the relationship between the students is less tight.
Yes. WWX is not adopted as a family member of the Jiang clan, he is still a servant’s son. Kids like WWX are all like the students of Clan leader Jiang. So their families work or worked for the Jiang Clan, so do the kids raised and study in the clan so that when they grow up, they would serve the Jiang clan like their families do. And ofc for clan leader Jiang they are all like his kids because he watched them growing up, and WWX is his favourite because reasons. The sect brothers/sisters are like classmates you grow up with, so they are considered family but not in the family sense. Also WWX is the best student of clan leader Jiang, and that got him special treatment because the clan leader would consider him as the future right hand of his son. It’s complicated.
To be direct, JYL is the only one who actually acknowledges WWX as family, calling him her younger brother. So I don't think there's a problem saying they were family (only thet, not the Jiangs)

To be fair, that IS her least iconic work. Not that I didn't enjoy it, but I've read the same base idea like 20 times in other gay chinese novels and unlike some of the others, it felt somewhat rushed? Her other works are a lot more unique and well-paced, the characters are more fleshed out, and so on.

Honestly, it's my favorite book of MXTX. I think it's hilarious and so clever and it's much more of an easier read than the other two.
Of course, CQL will always be my number one and WangXian my favorite of the three pairings.

If you read the book you’ll get more context and everything starts to make sense, lol i was so confused just watching the animated version. I think the drama adaptation does a good job in telling the story imo, but if you like visuals and stuff the animated version is the way to go.

At Jixuans death, Wen Ning wasn’t under the control of Wei Ying it was the bad guys lacky playing behind the scenes with a piece of Stygian Tiger Amulet.
Well, this made me finally watch the third season of the donghua and because of that I've been crying almost non-stop for like 8h (which is how long it took me to watch it). So... Thanks? I didn't think I was ready for it all after reading the novel and watching CQL at least like 5 times each in the past two-to-three years, but apparently I fit right in with the rest of the MXTX fandom because pain WILL NOT drive me away. It might scare me, though, so it's a good thing that most of us are suckers for taking some comfort and fluff with our pain
The biggest tragedy of ungayefing this story is all the people who will miss out on one of the greatest confession scenes ever written...

I remember how I got into mdzs the same summer the cdrama dropped. I first got interested from the AMVs and watched the first season. Then read the book and THEN the drama was announced. An unforgettable summer honestly. I remember crying so hard when I first read the golden core reveal, it’s so unexpected and hurts so much. But yeah, I’m just happy the fandom hasn’t died

although I am completely in love with all the adaptions of mxtx works, I will always stand by the novels being my absolute favourite! they are pure gold and I will not say how many times I have reread all of her novels as I am definite it is a very unhealthy amount (also since hob is longer than the bible ahah.) Also, a massive bonus is that there is no censorship obviously.
The way she got so many things right from just watching once is crazy!!! I had to watch the whole series twice AND read manhua and novel AND watch the live action to catch everything😭😭😭
