      +Juan Pablo Pedraza Thanks for the comments. The thermostat can 'trip' if the machine is turned off during the drying cycle. Make sure you always allow it to finish so it takes the heat away from the element.

    Very interesting video. I checked all the parts with the multi-meter and they look ok. Yet, each time I run a dry cycle, one of the thermostats stops the heating system. Each time I reset it and try a new dry cycle, the problem is the same. I have cleaned all the machine and removed as much dust as I could. Now, I'm clueless. Where the problem could come from? My washer/dryer is a candy GOW85D. Thanks

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад +1

      +Jerome Granados If the air flow is correct and the condenser is not blocked up with lint and you are not turning off before the cycle has completed replace the thermostats to start.

      @JeromeGranados 8 лет назад

      I have replaced the thermostats. It did fix the problem, but for a few dry cycles only. Now I'm back to the original problem where the thermostats stop the heating system. Do you think I should replace the thermostats again or look somewhere else?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад +1

      If you are looking at a washer dryer your problem is likely to be due to poor air flow causing the heater to get to hot and trip. If this is the case clean the condenser at the back of the drum and make sure the air flow is not restricted by any grilles before the fan.

    • @JeromeGranados

    Thanks for this video, very clear! BTW I have a AEG L16850, DRYER suddenly stopped heating up regardless of selection after 20min, it stops to 0 min, so I thought I'll check inside, I've cleaned the condenser with a hunger. apparently there is a sensor wires fitted inside a hoe??
    trying to locate sensor wires inside hose, which hose is it would you have a clue? when facing
    the machine, left hand side there is a big short rubber pipe? also on the
    right, bottom of condenser rubbery hose with sensor but no wires inside, would you know?
    Cheers.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад

      Hi, we do not think there is a 'sensor' in the condenser but there are two 'thermostats' and a NTC fitted on the heater tunnel. Check the two thermostats on the side of the heater tunnel to make sure they both read short circuit as they should be 'closed'.

    Hi
    Thanks for the really useful video.
    I'm just interested. My zanussi washer dryer seems to be stopping long before it's supposed to. 2 hour dry stops after 20 mins. But there are no error codes. Checked everything out and the only anomaly is the condenser water pump motor. You say it should be about 4K ohms. 2 of them are but the condenser feed is measuring about 5.2k ohms. Would that indicate a problem? It seems to trickle water through still. Many thanks.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад

      +Chris Handcock If water is trickling into the condenser then the valve is likely to be OK and may vary a little between manufacturers. If the dryer is heating correctly run a test and check it is regularly pumping out the accumulated water.

    Thanks for the review! I have a problem with washer dryer that does not heat up while drying after returning from repairshop. They changed some motor after door lock error (07 Candy GC4) I noticed that fan makes funny noise now when starting drying program. I suspect they forgot to plug back in something inside the mashine. Is it possible?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  6 лет назад +1

      Hi LuckyMe, the first thing to test is the dryer elements, the video shows how to test them at 1.46 and check no wires have been left off so be careful.

    • @Maajailm1314
      @Maajailm1314 6 лет назад

      Hello! Thank you for answering! I tested everything as showed in the video. I found out that elements didn't warm up. So I pushed the buttons on them to reset them and it worked. Then I plugged masin and started drying program. The elements heated up too hot so I turned mashine off. It seems the problem is in ventilator-air does not flow into drum, it stays cold inside it. I scrued that drying part all off to get to inner ventilator. When outer ventilator spinns, the inner ventilator does'nt. Its kinda loose on it's axle . I can't get what is wrong with it and how it should work. Can you explane that part too, how it works and what to do to fix it?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  6 лет назад

      Hi LuckyMe, the video does explain the drying process, if the ventilator is not turning then it does not pass the air over the heater into the drum and will need to be replaced but also check the air chamber for any blockages.

  • @lanceflanagan

  • @damiangreen299

    I really like this video a lot, but I do notice that it does not really address the possibility of air flow obstruction. It seems to me that the air tube going into the condenser is rather limited in diameter and that seems to me to be very likely to eventually get clogged up with lint and debris. Is there not a good way of testing the air flow in this system? like maybe disconnecting that hose and sticking a vacuum cleaner hose up to it? is there a recommended way of cleaning the condenser (does it ever need that?)? Also, is it not possible that the condenser valve could still measure around 4Kohm but be stuck closed for mechanical reasons rather than a bad coil? And,

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Damien, the condenser is cooled by the water trickling through it. This should loosen any lint building up and wash it into the water in the tub where it will be emptied away. The condenser can block up occasionally and need to be cleared, this is best done by removing it and flushing with a hose. If the valve gets blocked it can still measure OK without delivering the fine water spray, you can usually hear the slight hiss shortly after the machine starts when the drum pauses.

      Liked it! I did find the problem to be with a thermostat that had tripped...
      However, when I opened up my machine (an Ariston AWD121NA) I found that it did not have a separate condenser unit like the one that you had shown in the video. Instead, I believe it uses the outer containing barrel as the condenser itself. perhaps there are cool water pipes that line the barrel, but because of this, there is no way to easily modify this washer/dryer to bypass a separate condenser and force the air to exhaust to the outside. The fan/heater assembly draws directly from the barrel, then blows directly back in without giving access to route the air in any other manner. I was hoping I could bypass the condenser to make the dryer work more efficiently, because I live in Arizona and dry air is something that is plentiful here, but I simply can't do it with this particular machine. Bummer!

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  7 лет назад

      Glad you found your problem. By recirculating the air it requires less energy 'generally' to heat so can be more efficient. This may not always be the case on a 'hot' day.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  5 лет назад +1

      If clothes are coming out hot and wet something is wrong within the condensing process usually a blockage of some sort in either the condenser itself or the feed pipe from the valve to the condenser which usually has some sort of constriction in it which only allows a minimal amount of water into the condenser and can block. It could be the control PCB but not very likely.

    Hi, I have Zanussi WJD 1667 washer dryer. I have checked all the thermostats 3 in all. the one at the front seemed to be faulty so I ordered another one. The new one has a reading the same as the old one. the guy at the shop said maybe it works the other way round. Any ideas. Cheers.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад +1

      +Russ Griffin The sensor on the front of the heater tunnel is an NTC resistor. It will typically have a resistance of several thousand ohms that will change with temperature and does not measure short circuit like most thermostats. If the elements are OK and the heater does not come on it would suggest a control board problem if no error codes show.

      Hi Diane, the filter is located at the bottom right-hand corner at the front of the appliance, there may be a clip on panel you need to remove to access the filter. put some old towels down for any water in the chamber before you open it.

    • @dianes140

      Hi Amir, we have a video showing Hotpoint error codes:

      If the elements and the cut outs are OK the problem is likely to be the dryer module: www.espares.co.uk/product/es669480/washing-machine-dryer-module-assembly It may not be able to prove this without replacement.

    What happens to the lint in a Hoover washer dryer?

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад

      +Dave johnson The condenser is constantly cooled by a fine mist of water that helps the lint wash from the condenser into the sump and then be pumped away. Over time lint can still build up and may occasionally need to be cleaned out. This involves removing the condenser and 'disturbing' the lint and washing out. A good way to disturb this is by using a flexible wire like a bicycle brake cable or net curtain wire.

    We're having a problem with our LG washer/dryer combo not drying. We had a tech come out and he charged us $300 to replace the drain pump but it didn't fix the problem. We can't afford another service call right now. I have figured out that if I shut off the cold water and run a dry cycle it dries the clothes perfectly. But if I turn the cold water on again and run a dry cycle those same clothes will be totally soaked again. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? If I know what part to replace I can do it myself. LG's online support is totally useless. Their answer to everything is a service call.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  9 лет назад

      +Acesfool To increase the efficiency of the condenser it is cooled by regularly being sprayed with cold water during the drying cycle. The drain pump should keep cutting it to take away water as it builds up or it can start to fill the drum and wet the clothes. Run empty and check after 20 minutes if you can see water coming into the bottom of the drum. As most LG machines have two pumps it is possible the wrong one has been replaced and the original is sticking when warm.

    • @Tressym66
      @Tressym66 8 лет назад

      +eSpares Thanks for the reply. I decided to try testing it a bit. With everything hooked up and turned on I ran a 20 minute wash cycle with no drying. No water in the drum. Then I ran a 30 minute dry cycle and ended up with a pretty good sized puddle in the bottom of the drum. I immediately ran a spin cycle and selected "No Spin" and it drained the water out.
      During the dry cycle I felt the hose which runs from the cold water valve inlet to the dryer duct. I could feel the water running through there quite easily and it seemed to have a lot of pressure to it. I'm just guessing that it's really not supposed to have that much pressure and maybe that valve is opening too much during the dry cycle? If I unplug the electric wire that plugs into that valve I can run a full wash and dry cycle and everything comes out fine. Replacing that valve would be rather easy, but it's kind of pricey.

    • @eSpares
      @eSpares  8 лет назад

      +Acesfool The water is deliberately forced through a small spray hole to provide a cooling mist without wasting water so we don't think that is likely to be the problem. Still think the problem is more likely to be the pump and that's where we would start.

    How about the most important thing as Step 1: UNPLUG THE DRYER.You're putting your fingers across the heater elements, and if someone is working on their machine with it plugged in, that's 220 across fingers. If not instant death, it's a sure fire way to get them to do the monkey dance and seek immediate first aid.

      Thanks for your comments. We did say at 0:49 "So I've just turn the machine off and I'll take the lid off" and you can see the plug behind the machine on the floor. Turning off the machine isn't always enough. Defective switching or controls can leave components hot, as well as single leg switching. I've done service long enough (tool/machinery, not appliances) to know that people need to be explicitly told to unplug before servicing. Even then, they'll pretend that rule doesn't apply to them because "I know what I'm doing."
