Just saved me money!!!! The drum on my washing machine was making a noise, thought it was bearings. Watched the video and then thought no it cant be bearings so had another inspection. Found a bra wire trapped between the drum and the rubber seal. Problem solved, money saved. Cheers!!
I have just had someone have a look at my washer, the drum was very stiff to turn around so he removed the drum seal and the drum was off centre. He said it's had it.. thing is that it's not had a lot of use, so question is.... Is it beyond repair as in cost wise..
Just want to say how helpful Josh's video has been. Lost my wife 6 months ago. Now I/C washing! Needed to know a few things. These videos absolutely priceless. Thanks Josh
You guys just saved me a lot of money! I was experiencing a lot of noise in my GE front load washer. I thought there were worn bearings as the unit is 5 years old. However, I watched this video and, voila, it was a trapped bra wire which I removed with vise grip pliers. Thanks immensely, Mike Carroll
Thank you! I heard noise and automatically thought bearings, but I watched your video, popped the top, and found a loose weight. You've saved me a callout service charge. Great troubleshooting video! Maybe I'll make the teenagers watch it so they'll understand why I want them to stop washing unbalanced loads.
Hi Erskine, Happy to hear you not only identified the loose weight but also the cause. We made a video showing balance issues titles: How to Prevent a Washing Machines Spinning Noisily And may we suggest another very useful video for most people to watch that is: How to Cure a Smelly Washing Machine
Thank you so much. Had a really bad knocking noise coming from my Miele. Watched your video and boom!!! Machine not balanced. Thanks mate, saved me a fortune on call out costs.
Just wanted to give an update on my previous post 4 months ago. I used the JB Weld to attach the concrete to the tub after the anchor sheered off from a loose concrete weight. I spread it over all points the concrete came in contact with the tub. The concrete is still holding solid as ever and have not had any problems since. While I know this is not ideal, I would recommend everyone to follow the advice in the video to make sure it doesn't happen to them! I check my washer weight every month now to make sure it is still holding firm. Hope this helps anyone that may have the same situation as I. Thanks again eSpares for your great info!
Tim Allison Good news Tim and certainly better than scrapping an otherwise good machine. Hope you are keeping the wash balanced to reduce the vibrations and help the repair. :-)
Thankyou so much! Was about to buy a new machine but thanks to this video i found the weight had come loose and after my wife found the washer and nut under the machine we fixed it easily.
Thanks a lot for posting this video, I've managed to remove a hard piece of plastic from the drain pump, this has saved me money I can ill afford to spend at the moment. Feeling vey pleased. Thanks
Well done Carol, but remember some one put that piece of plastic in with the washing. If you left a pound coin in your pocket it could knock a whole in the outer tub causing a flood and a expensive repair. So do not forget to check all pockets and tell any one else who loads the machine that if they break it they have to pay for it to be fixed. ;-)
Reply to Gray Anderson (your post settings did not allow additional comments) Your problem is likely to be a load balance issue, see another one of our videos: ruclips.net/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/видео.html
espares, first I want to start off by telling you how amazing you guys are and your videos are equally as amazing. Thank you for taking the time to educate all of us, your videos are very informative. So the reason I started watching your videos, which are better than all others, is because I'm trying to figure what is going on with my washer and how to fix it. I have a GE front loader, WCVH6800JMR, and when it gets on the spin cycle it begins making a strange kind of knocking noise, possible drum off track, but then it begins smoking and smelling like burning rubber. From the videos I was able to check and see if it's the drum, or at least try. The drum doesn't seem to be real loose and it doesn't look like it's rubbing on the rubber seals. I did spin the tub manually and at one point I could hear where the actual tub is scraping against something on the inside and at the bo1
+eSpares. Did you see the questions that I had? I sent thru 2 messages which I apologize for. accidentally hit send. Would really appreciate a bit of guidance from you guys, that is if you still do that. Thank you!!
@espares i have a running/jumping candy machine that is level on the feet. The drum looks loose. Whats the best step by step video that you can recommend so i can fix this myself
Nicely explained, useful information. Quick question: Is it normal for a brand new, just bought washing machine to squeak while spinning? (little squeak with every revolution of the drum)
Hi Marilyn, thanks so much for your comment here. Hopefully our video has helped you to fix your washing machine...did you solve the drum issue you had? ....Haha, well it might not be a surprise to you, but unfortunately computer guides aren't something we can help with...but best of luck in learning new computer skills in the future!
Hi, I have a Zanussi 1600 aquacycle and althought there is no play at all on the drum up and down but it does move backwards and forwards slightly and is making a thumping noise on fast spin. Could this be the weights loose??? A few years old now but still going strong apart from the noise.
Re David Gallo comment. We do not have a video on this particular machine but to check the bearings see if there is movement between drum and door seal to indicate it is loose (worn bearings) and watch another of our videos: How to Diagnose Drum Problems in a Washing Machine ruclips.net/video/wUL5Wb1T71c/видео.html
eSpares my washer drum tries to spin but can't I put a new belt on and still nothing the motor spins fine but it will try to adgatat but is having trouble can you please tell me the cause
Hi I have a samsung ecobubble 8kg washer & I'm experiencing some problems with drum.I can turn it by hand which has a clicking sound but when it's on a cycle it'll work for a while then as it turns it'll jerk so doesn't go all way around then it'll stay still for the rest of the wash.Any advice would be great
it is good demonstration of tighten-up the loosen top counterweight but I can't figure out how to fix the bottom front counterweight because I don't know how to remove the front panel casing.
Hi Chris, you don't mention the brand or the model details but generally, you would have to take off the top and the control panel to get to the screws for the front panel. have a look at some of our other videos as we have may showing the front panel coming off on many different brands.
Hello espares. I own a washing machine LG wd65130fu. It is washing fine but the problem is that the machine is not steady. It is moving during washing. I have replaced drum's supporters, springs, V belt but still nothing. I watched both Josh's and Matt's videos but it doesn't seem to have problem with the bearings. I did the tests suggested from Josh in this video from 0.45-1.45 and it is ok. The difference is that the circular move of the drum when turning is misaligned. Any ideas which part is faulty? Thanks
Hi rori, there is a difference between the cabinet and the drum, if you are sure it is not an unblanaced load causing it are you sure the machine is perectly level? if the drum is misaligned that could be caused by the bearings or something inside the drum.
I have GE Frontend loaders WBVH5200J3WW. Do you know where I can get a manual or online video that will walk me step by step how to take washer apart to check the belt and bearings.
+David Gallo WE have another video that shows what is involved replacing bearings: ruclips.net/video/XaFF2-Rl8Nc/видео.html On your machine it appears the bearings are supplied with the tub rear and not separately. Unfortunately we are unable to ship a tub rear to the USA at this time. :-(
Thanks for the vid! Do you have any idea what might cause a stuck drum? There are no perferations, it isn't loose like demonstrated on 1:28, but it doesn't spin, either freely and by force. Upon opening of the back part of the machine I've discovered that the wheel that's connected to the motor by the rubber belt does spin, but it doesn't convert to the drum. Should I just get a new machine, if the problem is with the bearings?
+Gloomy Moonie If the pulley on the back turns but the drum doesn't then the spider that supports the drum on the drum shaft must have broken. It is usually possible to replace this but it means dismantling completely as in our bearing video: ruclips.net/video/XaFF2-Rl8Nc/видео.html This is not usually for the inexperienced novice but can be done if you are prepared.
+eSpares that was quick, thanks! I'd be glad to do it myself, problem is that I find it quite unlikely to be able to find replacement parts where I'm from, given that the existence of dedicated washing machine shops is something that I've only now discovered. Of course I'll try asking a technitian, but from what I gather just having him look at the thing would cost more than 10% of a brand new machine, not to even mention the fixing itself. Can't say the work doesn't worth the pay, there's obviously a lot of expertise involved, as demonstrated by the video you've linked to by the way, but the as it seems in my case I would end up paying near as much as I would pay for a new machine. Thank you for the videos though, if I had the leverage of the tools and the convenience of the replacement parts I would have found them indispensable. Cheers!
Video very helpful. However I have a problem which I have tried to solve but got stuck. My washing machine is an Ignis LOP 1060. While in operation, it stopped and all the lights on the control panel became fixed and cannot be switched off. What I need to do? Thanks.
We have a GE washer that is 8-10 years old. There were huge knocks that had everybody in the house running to see what the problem was. It looks as though the drum has broken off something because it is sitting down about an inch and moves freely. Is this fixable?
Hi Liljenny, have a look at the movement on the drum lip between the bottom of the door seal. If the gap changes enough to contact the seal when you apply pressure on the drum and there is play allowing the gap to change more than a millimetre or so then the problem may be worn bearings so see this video: ruclips.net/video/XaFF2-Rl8Nc/видео.html if the drum lip does not 'run true' when spun and the gap opens and closes as the drum is out os shape it can be knocked with a mallet to even the gap. If both previous checks are OK it is probably due to an out of balance load so clean any rubber from the lip and watch this video: ruclips.net/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/видео.html
+eSpares Do you know what the black powdery-tar stuff in the back of the washing machine is? I was looking around the washing machine is because it was making a banging/knocking noise on the spin cycle, my first thought was; loose drum weight, but wasn't. So, I thought maybe the bearings have gone, and that's when I came into contact with this black powder, all over the panel that I took off, all over machine floor. Best way to describe it, is powdered charcoal. So, is there to any clue as to what it is?
+luke dodd The motor carbon brushes wear away like brake pads on a car and will leave a black dust. Also if concrete weights come loose these can bang and chip leaving a grey dust usually near the front of the drum. To prevent your machine banging on spin see another video: ruclips.net/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/видео.html
A well presented video. I have an integrated Zanussi ZWI 71201 WA that is only 3 years old and used by 2 people. During its cycle the machine has started to make a loud banging noise that rattles the machine, but not all the way through even when it goes to do the final spins it doesn't! There are no error messages but the time given for the cycle goes on longer ie said 8mins to go but was filling up with water and at 1min to finish took at least 10mins. A wash that said 55mins took over 2 hours. I did do a heavy wash of towels with 2 bath mats previous to this, that came out soaking, so could the machine have become unbalanced and can it be fixed? I have since tried a lighter wash but the same sort of thing happened, although the water had spun out of it this time. I have cleaned the filter. Any advise most welcome, thanks.
Hi Anita, sorry for the late reply but your question has just come through. Sounds like we need to explain about balancing loads, watch this video and if you have questions we will try and answer them: ruclips.net/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/видео.html
I have a samsung front load washer and it makes a loud knocking sound on spin cycle. Also, it is not able to complete a full spin cycle. Bearings are good (i bought a rear drum with bearing and the problem persisted), spider arm is corroded and has holes but not completely broken yet. Shocks appears to be fine. Weights are secured tight. What else could i be missing? Thanks
Hi I have a Bosch classixx6 1400 express and its just started to make a bang noise on high spin it's also smoking. I've ordered new brushes as the old ones had next to no carbon left on them. The barings seem fine. Based on what I've explained could you give me a diagnosis please.
Hi Rodney, does the drum spin freely? it may be something stuck inside which will stop the drum from turning correctly causing the smoke, are there any signs of damage to the motor or the drain pump.
@@eSpares Hi thanks fir getting back to me much appreciated. Yes the drum spins freely with no sound. As soon as i put a load in it makes a horrible knocking noise. I've ordered a new belt thinking it had stretched maybe and was unbalanced. I've not checked for anything stuck and there are no visable signs of damage. Regards Rod
I'm hoping that someone reading this can offer a little advice for me. About 6 months ago, I replaced the bearings on my lg front loader and everything was going fine until recently I got an 'LE' error and so I replaced the hall effect sensor and while putting the rotor assembly back onto the machine, I noticed that the barrel slid forward and I know that it will get tightened back into position once I tighten the 17mm screw on the rotor assembly. But I'm curious to know if the barrel should be moving at all, even prior to tightening that bolt? If it shouldn't be sliding then what is it that I don't have correctly tightened? When replacing the bearings, I made sure to get EVERYTHING back snug and in position just like I found it when taking the machine apart but if I missed something then what was it?
Thanks very much for your your very clear demonstration, your better than the instruction manual you get with products, I was able to cure the noise problem, this was due to uneven floor , easily solved with adjusting the feet on the machine, I had to negotiate with the final positioning of the machine and the place where the machine was when I pulled it out as there was a fundermental difference Wow.
Hi Delroy, thanks so much for your comment here about our video...we are sol glad that it has helped you to solve the problem you had. If you have any other appliance issues in the future, remember that eSpares are here to help you!
Hi Guys, love your videos, they are very helpful. I used one to help me change the door seal on my LG WD-1238C and it worked great. I have another problem though. It appears that the drum is rubbing against the door seal and creating a lot of rubber dust since I changed the seal. Is there a way to reposition the drum so that there is a slight gap between the seal and the metal drum?
Check the drum lip 'runs true' by spinning by hand. If the drum edge wobble to can use a block of wood to knock it s high spot to prevent catching. Often a new seal may be slightly more closer fit and out of balanced loads can cause it to flex and contact. This can wear a groove in the seal and gradually the problem will go away. In the meantime use a plastic scourer pad to remove any rubber that has picked up on the drum lip.
Hi Omar, give us a clue!. we need to know what your problem is and what is working before we can offer advice. Have a look at our other diagnosis videos to identify what area your problem is: ruclips.net/p/PLZopaZU-UQSHj1noiwEJ99JjXWcEcSAbZ
I have a Frigidaire Front Load washer and the tub is banging while in final spin. I've replaced the bearings and shock absorbers, but it is still loose on the door side?
Hi Chip, the tub is only 'hung' on the suspension springs so will easily rock backwards and forwards. If you disconnect and take the top off you can shake the drum vertically by pressing hard on the top and 'bouncing' it to check the dampers underneath. The drum should resist movement and stop quickly when bounced showing the dampers. If there is no loose weights and the dampers and bearings are OK the problem may just be an out of balance load so watch this video: ruclips.net/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/видео.html
I have the same symptoms in my washing machine and smoke when spin at high speed at end of quick wash only not at full wash, I opened the back the bearing look intact, what shall I do?
my machine when plug doesn't come on at all, but before it kept washing and not draining the water it finally stopped but with water still inside so I drained from the lil hose at bottom of machine. can u tell me what the problem is and is it fixable. I have the LG inverter direct drive. Thanks
I have an ageing Brandt WTC12995 top loading washing machine and when trying to unload 2 sopping wet pillows, I opened the drum, but the heavy pillows forced it to return to its original position, with the entrance open underneath and stuck! Is there any way that I can get at the drum entrance?
Hi Tony, if you take the side panel off you can get to the drum pulley, this will allow you to turn the pulley to re position the drum back to it's correct position, be careful as it may have damaged the drum flaps and it will be difficult to move.
Great and thanks. But how does one remove debris from between the drums? I feel this is the cause of the spin noise on my Samsung VRT since I can hear something falling as I turn the drum by hand. THX
+Fred Neal: First check if something is catching or rattling if it rattles put your head in the drum to locate which paddle is rattling as it may be loose or have something in it. Look on our website at the images for the paddle as if it only shows clips you may be able to remove it as shown in a similar video: ruclips.net/video/V-kIP83a4RU/видео.html If there is something stuck and catching under the drum you may be able to fish it out by removing the heater, see another video for information: ruclips.net/video/o0zLTtCbkkw/видео.html
I washed a heavy blanket in my front load and it was too much for it. It made loud noise in last spin and slightly broke something between the 2 drums as I have gotten a couple grey plastic pieces out of the area near the pump. It only makes noise with a load after this happened. what would be between the drums that would have broke and what do I likely need to replace due to such an event? Thank you for any help!
For you my answer is probably too late. The drum rubbing against the housing would cause "Grey Plastic" to settle in the drain line. The loud bang is most likely a broken (or partially broken) spider, if so the problem will just worsen. The spider is what holds the drum from touching the housing. The spin speed will determine the distance of travel between the drum & the housing.
Hello, I have an LG WM2010. I had issues with the bearings this past spring, and I saw your videos and replaced them myself! Thank you! Thank you! Currently, my machine, when starting the load, will spin quietly in one direction (clockwise), but when it needs to spin in the opposite direction, it makes a terrible noise. It looks like the machine is having a difficult time, almost like it's slipping and struggling to spin. Could this be a rotor issue? There are no error codes on the front panel.
+Cali Nekko The problem is likely to be the motor position sensor (www.espares.co.uk/product/es1523400) this detects the magnetic field from the motor rotor to help the control board pulse the correct windings and control the speed.
It was the sensor! I replaced it myself in less than 15 minutes and it's working fine. If I lived in the UK I would have ordered it from you guys! You guys rock! Keep up the great videos. Thanks, from sunny Florida!
i have a hot point aquarius 1100 wm63 well the drum seems to be rubbing on the drum casing in witch there are bits of plastic coming off in the wash after it as fiishd and it only makes a very loud knocking on it when spinning done checks to the bearing and all seems fine any help here
Check for movement in the drum as shown at 1:28 if there is a lot of movement it is either due to worn bearings or a broken spider (the 3 legs that attach the drum to the shaft). IF there is little movement check for something caught between drum and tub as shown in this video: ruclips.net/video/HlmVwVjte3Y/видео.html
Hi great vid , i have a zanussi with a drum that moves back to front , no bearing noise and i changed the dampers and springs but still a little movement when washing and big vibration on the spin . Pleas help as im out of ideas now .
Hi Paul, if your drum moves a lot it would suggest bearings but have you checked the concretes as that can cause issues have a look at this video ruclips.net/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/видео.html
I have checked the weights top and front and they are rock solid , changed the springs and dampers . I have no noise from the bearings , so i placed the machine on to a rubber mat of about 2mm . I have just laid a new laminate floor and screwed the floor to the concrete floor underneath . I think the floor was a bit springy which has now solved the problem . Thanks for the reply and the vids have helped a lot .
Thanks for the great video! I wish I would have found it a bit earlier. My 3 bolts holding the concrete were very loose and one of the anchors sheered off. By tightening the other two bolts it is much better but I am afraid the give from the missing bolt will jar the others loose soon. My friend suggested JB Weld and actually bonding the concrete in place to the tub. I am trying the bond right now for the anchor. Will let that set overnight. Any thoughts on this?
Hi Tim, this can be a common problem with machines that are left to spin unattended or overnight as if they are out of balance they can shake excessively loosening the weight. If unattended you miss the noise it makes until the damage is done. Not sure how effective your repair will be but to prevent damaging your machine in the future watch our video: ruclips.net/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/видео.html
If there are no drum bearing sounds and spins by hand freely, what's a good way to check? We've rebuilt this machine, I know the drain cleaning technique and frequently do so, its tight on door lock and has no rust. The electronic controls seem to work well, constantly get the door and drain error. I clear those and it will work fine via boards, tested circuitry all normal. The drum just stopped spinning and I've not had luck finding troubleshooting or testing. I'm grateful if you have any additional ideas or suggestions since you seem to you know more than I've seen previously after exhaustive searches. Thanks in advance.
We have many diagnostic videos to help identify problems here: ruclips.net/video/QYPqpjLV7s4/видео.html Watch these first and we will be happy to help with any questions.
eSpares I appreciate and will be checking those immediately. The boards are in tact also, I want to keep my front load, but they seem to just be more hassle than the cost. I appreciate the very hasty help also!
eSpares also have checked all wiring (visible) manually turned drum freely, which was turning and abruptly stopped, replaced door lock assembly and all main front components seem operational, run cycles as usual, just the abrupt stop of the drum recently. I think its a nightmare machine now lol.
Before suspecting the control panel if the machine appears to have a drum motor problem it is worth replacing the motor sensor. This may be the cause and is a lot cheaper to try than a control board.
eSpares I'll check in daylight here and see anything I can. I appreciate the advice and have to check schematics in manual to assure I'm checking the correct board and panels with limited tools I have. Thanks again so much!
so it's scrapping something below the drum. The scrapping or rubbing noise isn't happening the entire time the drum is spinning, it's happening 1once it hits the same section each time. I am trying to figure out what is wrong or HOW to figure out what is wrong, and how to fix it. Is it worth fixing or should I get a new washer......I sure hope you can help me. I will be looking for a reply. Thank you so much.
+Jenny Boles Hi Jenny, sorry for the late reply. If the drum is catching pop your head inside and try to identify where and if it moves. If it is a harsh scrape it may be something like a bra underwire whereas a item of clothing like a sock will rub. look through the holes with a torch and see if you can move the item with a small drill bit or rod. You may be able to remove it either round the front edge, by removing the heater or removing the sump hose for access.
Hi, thanks for your comment...hopefully we have helped you to solve why your washing machine was having drum issues, and you can now fix your washing machine yourself!
Thank you , I have had great luck with my 15 year old gibson replaced the computer board several times and the water pump once , when I finally need to replace the washer what is the best built one to buy ?
Hi dobsonimages, when buying a new machine they are many good brands but you need to go for what is right for you depending on the spin speed, size of the drum and how much you want to spend.
Thank you for the reply, I do not mind spending a little extra money for the best quality , not to concerned about speed or size I am more concerned about quality of construction, ease to repair and durability of parts do you have any suggestions.
hi my aeg washmachine at times behaves very unbalanced, when it starts to spin at times the drum almost knocks out the side cover plate sheet, then it stops the movement and tries again. My problem is, that the machine tries too long to establish the balance, I wonder what it may cause to the cover from inside. I think it knocks down the paitn at least, if it doesn't do greater problem. What might be the possible cause? May it be loose weight? All this started shortly after we've bought the machine. Thank You.
Hi Leopold, the good news is you are likely to be able to 'fix' the problem for free. For information see one of our other videos: How to Prevent a Washing Machines Spinning Noisily www.espares.co.uk/advice/7/2401/how-to-prevent-a-washing-machines-spinning-noisily-
eSpares hi, thanks for the tip. Actually I've checked the concrete weigth and it's ok. My problem is, that it's quite a long time before the machine "notices" that it's unbalanced, and throughout this time period the machine crazily and loudly kicks himself almost into pieces; you can actually see the drum coming out on the side cover sheet of the machine.... All this time the machine is level, and the whole structure does not move; just the drum. My former machine was a cheaper but a more clever one, because he realised he's unbalanced; and had the procedure stopped in time. So I wonder might it be a problem of a sensor or something in the electronics, or is it the normal way of sensing the unbalanced load?
Leopold. Varga Most machines do spot out of balance but if the drum dampers are connected and resist the movement when you push the drum up and down (not back and forth) then it is not likely to be the machines fault. This problem is less likely to occur with a small drum but gets greater the larger the drum and higher the spin speed. The fact the machine sometimes stops from spinning is telling you that you have loaded it incorrectly and the only cure for this is how you load the machine.
Hi I have a lg front load washer I’ve cleaned filter and it spins great really no noice while washing but on rinse a little humming but not bad but while draining is really slow and OE comes on sometimes what should I look for first and how can u maybe unclog drain hose
Hi Jeffrey, error code OE refers to unable to drain water during the wash programme, check the drain hose isn't kinked and test the drain pump with a multimeter.
Hi Oliver, if the door seal has worn it may create a gap allowing the clothes to go down nut the only fix is to replace it, is there any movement in the drum?
@@eSpares hmm it doesn't appear to be in need of replacement. There is some movement back and forth for the drum. Once it ate a pair of underwear that clogged everything up, but I think it was because I loaded it too full. I found one T-shirt damaged, which I believe I also washed in that load... How much back and forth movement should there be in the drum? Wondering about that is what lead me to this video. Bearing seems alright. Not brand new, but not horribly noisy either...
I have an lg top loader machine when on washing and rinse cycles it makes this loud screeching noise like metal on metal then when it goes to spin water out it will spin so far and throw the UE code for unlevel load I reposition everything and it throws the code again I can't get it to complete a whole spin cycle. Could this be the clutch bearing thing. It won't even do a spin cycle empty.
Hi Dianna, the UE error is an unbalanced load so do not try rearanging the load but watch our video: ruclips.net/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/видео.html The screeching may be due to a failing drain pump.
Hi Akoya z, we think E57 is indicating a door lock error. Check the connections are not loose or burning and start by replacing the door lock if everything else checks ok.
Hi, Thanks for the video. I have a Zanussi ZWG1121P washing maching. It has no display. It was working fine, but ALL LED's are glowing now and would not work. How do I go about trouble shooting it. What could be the problem. Thanks in Advance.
My whirlpool duet washer ripping my clothes can you please help me what cause problem bearing seams ok even I change door seal last year still problem is there.
Hi Ashif, it may be the drum has been damaged so use the method in the video at 3.17 and check the gap between the seal and the drum as the clothes can go through and catch.
I have a Samsung WF5200 4.2 cu. ft. Front Load Washer and it never made an load thumping noises nor did it shake while washing until I moved about a week ago. I’ve only had the machine for 3 years. What do you think could be causing this loud thumping noise & extreme shaking all of a sudden?
Hi 08SammyCakes, my first question would be what happened in the move, make sure you have not left the transit bolts in and is it level? where it is and finally check for any internal damage to the suspension or concrete weights.
Thank you for the response. We began moving the washer from my laundry room to the door when we realized the transition bolts were not in so they were put in place after the washer was already moved a few feet across a small living area. Once the bolts were placed in, the machine was moved down 1 flight of apt stairs on a dolly. It didn’t fall or strike anything on the way down but maybe the transport down the stairs shook up the machine a little. I can tell it is not leveled on the floor of my new place but the inner tub (where the clothes go) looks to be shifted out of place.
I thought a major failure occurred. The drum is tight with no end play, turns smooth. I kept hearing a rattle. I grasp each paddle inside the drum and turned. I could feel a resonance of something inside one paddle. Lifted the paddle and got 2 quarters, 2 dimes out. Cured my issue.
Hi Jim, make sure all washing is checked for foreign objects as coins can punch a hole in the tub during the spin cycle. That could cause a flood as well as an expensive repair.
eSpares Excellent video, very helpful details. I remove my washer/dryer each year, clean and check using a large brush, then replace the flex tube if needed on the dyer. Blow out the dryer and exhust vent of built up lint. I have seen many dryer fires, neglected cleaning and lint build up. I am a retired firefighter, so have seen a few. Unfortunately more common than many realize. I have seen a dishwasher fire, caused by a mouse chewing a wire. Dead mousie, fire self contained and went out. But the dead mouse hanging onto the wire was a sight.
Thanks for the comments, maintanance is an important subject often overlooked. As you have cionfirmed lint build up in dryers can be a major cause of appliance fires. We tried to address this with this video: ruclips.net/video/pxZIetevnSo/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/EDimm5L7zLo/видео.html. Your comments give us another oportunity to remind viewers of this potential danger.
Lg front loader smoking model F1247td5 sometimes even when I just turn the power on. What can I do to trace smoke coming from the drum holes ? If I smell anything or smoking I turn mains off spin drum manually and turn the power back on it works good for few days. I need to know what's in the drum which produces smoke ? I'm taking about when machine is not running just putting the power on can produce smoke from drum. I see smoke through the door while open. Drum bearing is fairly good very little play. Noise is louder than new ones. Main control module ok. Front display. And filter pcb good. Although I have ordered replacement bearing Kit with spider arm. Next time I open I will try to replace them.
Hi Siddique, there are only two reasons why there would be smoke inside the drum. If immediately after a spin there is smoke in the drum check for signs of small grey rubber bits around the door seal as this can be caused by clothing rubbing on the door seal. This would usually be caused by overloading. If there can be smoke when you just power the machine it would suggest the heater is coming on when it should not. If this is the case the problem must be the control board.
Hello, I have a question to the experts on a strange issue :) My Electrolux suddenly started making a hollow pop noise, same as when a metal flexes. Iv checked the bearings, no leaks. It spinns perfectly when no load in it, or at high speeds. But when turning slowly with clothes and they drop the sound arrives. If I slowly turn the drum and keep pushing down on the drum rim, sooner or later the pop comes. I can then turn the drum 180 degrees(half turn) and press down again, and the drum wil pop again. So it seems there is some unbalance at that spesific place over the drum. Except from that the drum is secured and the bearing seems solid, with no sideways play(except for the 2 points) that normalt is a tell for the bearing. Any idea what this strange thing can be?
Hi Caroline, If you check out some of our other diagnosis videos you will see that if the machine has not emptied it will not spin. The most likely cause will be something in the pump so see our video: ruclips.net/video/frEJhX9Sppw/видео.html
We do not have a specific video on a Bosch machine but this should be similar: ruclips.net/video/mmK-m79y_Zg/видео.html or the lock: ruclips.net/video/fC6mWyw8lXA/видео.html
Sir I have a problem with a DAEWOO Washing machine when i connect it to the socket outlet it does not switch on i tested the supply cable its fine working but the machine is still not lighting what could be the cause for the machine not to light up?
Hi Theophilus Siyabulela, have you confirmed the socket is OK? check the circuit with a multimeter from the cable to the PCB, make sure you check for any loose connections.
What I would like to know is, if the drum drops and there is a noise when in the wash cycle does that mean it's the bearings? can it be a broken spring or belt that has caused the drum to drop? it seems that its the only reason that's given which basically is saying "your washer is finished, buy a new one" but can it be anything else but the bearings? A spoon was recently put in the laundry and when I heard the banging on my Frigidaire front loader during the spin cycle I shut the washer off to remove the spoon. shortly after during another load when I turned it back on I heard a banging like the drum was hitting against something. I think I broke something when I shut it off and I do not think its the bearings, I think maybe a spring or something which held the drum up. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
+loosecannon574 By simply taking the top of the machine you can see if a spring has broken as the drum would be much lower on one side. If a belt broke there would be no drive to the drum. The video shows the effect of worn bearings at 1:28 the play is specifically between the drum edge and the door seal not the general drum movement. If you cave this play then the bearings are definitely shot and require replacement.
Good morning sir . I have AKAİ .Model 7090w-L1.Spume Inverter Drive Series. My washing machine problem . screen show.ED 1. After stop.you have soloution this fault.i m very thankful to you.
My machine hasKnocking on spinning cycle it was like not balanced. It was changed revolutions, it wasn able to spin up. Stopped it then spoke and or steem came out, smellt burning, it was on 60celsius programme. What could it be? On this beko wm5100w the drum is like floating so i cant tell if it is the bearing or not. Spins freely no noise or grind if spins by hand
Hi Amber, the only time you need to replace the drum is when the drum shaft has been damaged when the bearings collapse, make sure your model has the tub that can be split which is explained in this video ruclips.net/video/XaFF2-Rl8Nc/видео.html&t
hey i need help i have lg direct drive washing machine motor till me how i can start it from external source i means not from power coming from machine control board its self i want to run it from outside power how many voltage i have to give ac or dc? and witch color wire their is same wire u can see in video red yellow and blue please help me thanks
+muhammad zubair This motor cannot be connected to any supply as it is a multi phase motor and has to be driven by alternating current that is varied in frequency. :-(
We took off the top, and there aren't any weights. We did find a broken spring. If we fix that, how will we know if anything else was damaged when it broke?
Hi, In order to be able to identify your machine we will need a model number. At a guess you have had something heavy in the load that has not balanced and caused damage to the suspension. See our video on balanced loads at: ruclips.net/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/видео.html
eSpares Hey, I'm having the same problem with my Samsung model # WF350ANP/AA02washing machine. I have already replaced the shocks and it still making the noise at the height of the spin cycle. I don't have the movement with the drum or grinding sound when spun by hand. The springs are in great shape and I as well as this person do not have a weight on top. The machine is only about 4-5 years old. Any suggestions
Genevieve Rose The good news is there may be nothing wrong with the machine. The bad news is it may be you. See another one of our videos: ruclips.net/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/видео.html Any time you notice a noisy spin if this is the problem the evidence will be in the drum when the machine stops.
Just saved me money!!!! The drum on my washing machine was making a noise, thought it was bearings. Watched the video and then thought no it cant be bearings so had another inspection. Found a bra wire trapped between the drum and the rubber seal. Problem solved, money saved. Cheers!!
Hi kat834, thank you for the post as it makes our day when people save money from one of our videos.
I have just had someone have a look at my washer, the drum was very stiff to turn around so he removed the drum seal and the drum was off centre. He said it's had it.. thing is that it's not had a lot of use, so question is.... Is it beyond repair as in cost wise..
the presenter and quality of video/audio is highly professional. 5 stars.
Hi reactionary, thanks for your positive feedback. This has made our day.
Just want to say how helpful Josh's video has been. Lost my wife 6 months ago. Now I/C washing! Needed to know a few things. These videos absolutely priceless. Thanks Josh
+Mary Mary Thanks for your comments, let us know if you cannot resolve your problem.
Sorry for your loss.
Hi Michael, we recently produced another video specifically for items stuck in the drum: ruclips.net/video/HlmVwVjte3Y/видео.html
He's a good teacher. Very clear and crisp voice and I understood every word of his.
Thank you for the video, bro.

Hi youtuber, thank you for the correction ☺
We made a video showing balance issues titles:
How to Prevent a Washing Machines Spinning Noisily
And may we suggest another very useful video for most people to watch that is:
How to Cure a Smelly Washing Machine

Thanks for sharing an insightful engineering solution to washing machine
Thankyou so much! Was about to buy a new machine but thanks to this video i found the weight had come loose and after my wife found the washer and nut under the machine we fixed it easily.
Hi Brendan, thank you for your post and glad the video helped.
Thanks Josh. Cocktail stick was stuck in one of the holes in the drum. All good now. Thank you 👍
Hi Andy, great to hear you have got your washing machine issue solved with the help of our video!

Hi, thanks for your comment...we are glad you found our video useful, and hopefully your washing machine is working fine now!
Very well and clearly explained / presented.
Hi greatpoochini1, glad to hear you enjoyed our video. These are the comments we love to hear about.
So do not forget to check all pockets and tell any one else who loads the machine that if they break it they have to pay for it to be fixed. ;-)
Appreciate how succinct and down to business this video is with good presentation.

Hi ian, thank you for your post and glad you enjoyed our video and remember to keep watching.
espares, first I want to start off by telling you how amazing you guys are and your videos are equally as amazing.

Hi, thanks for your comment here. We have a video about this issue, hopefully this can help you out!
ruclips.net/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/видео.html
Nicely explained, useful information.
Quick question: Is it normal for a brand new, just bought washing machine to squeak while spinning? (little squeak with every revolution of the drum)
It may be the drum spindle seal is just 'bedding in' and it may improve with use.
Best instruction video I've seen. Very clear and easy to understand. Do you give computer lessons too😆
Hi Marilyn, thanks so much for your comment here. Hopefully our video has helped you to fix your washing machine...did you solve the drum issue you had?
....Haha, well it might not be a surprise to you, but unfortunately computer guides aren't something we can help with...but best of luck in learning new computer skills in the future!
Whats the reason of stiffness of drum even if try to rotate it with hand
Hi, I have a Zanussi 1600 aquacycle and althought there is no play at all on the drum up and down but it does move backwards and forwards slightly and is making a thumping noise on fast spin.
Could this be the weights loose???
A few years old now but still going strong apart from the noise.
Re David Gallo comment.
We do not have a video on this particular machine but to check the bearings see if there is movement between drum and door seal to indicate it is loose (worn bearings) and watch another of our videos: How to Diagnose Drum Problems in a Washing Machine

Hi Frank, glad you found our video useful.
it is good demonstration of tighten-up the loosen top counterweight but I can't figure out how to fix the bottom front counterweight because I don't know how to remove the front panel casing.
Hi Chris, you don't mention the brand or the model details but generally, you would have to take off the top and the control panel to get to the screws for the front panel. have a look at some of our other videos as we have may showing the front panel coming off on many different brands.
@@eSpares It is Indesit WIL113 (UK) exactly the same as the one in the video! :)
Hello espares.
I own a washing machine LG wd65130fu. It is washing fine but the problem is that the machine
is not steady.
Any ideas
which part is faulty?
+David Gallo WE have another video that shows what is involved replacing bearings: ruclips.net/video/XaFF2-Rl8Nc/видео.html
On your machine it appears the bearings are supplied with the tub rear and not separately.
It is usually possible to replace this but it means dismantling completely as in our bearing video: ruclips.net/video/XaFF2-Rl8Nc/видео.html
This is not usually for the inexperienced novice but can be done if you are prepared.
Cheers!
+Gloomy Moonie We can send spares to most countries so it may be worth checking on our website.: www.espares.co.uk/ :-)
Video very helpful. However I have a problem which I have tried to solve but got stuck. My washing machine is an Ignis LOP 1060. While in operation, it stopped and all the lights on the control panel became fixed and cannot be switched off. What I need to do? Thanks.
Hi Raoof, it is worth trying to reset the electronics by unplugging the machine and trying again, also check the connections to the board.
We have a GE washer that is 8-10 years old. There were huge knocks that had everybody in the house running to see what the problem was. It looks as though the drum has broken off something because it is sitting down about an inch and moves freely. Is this fixable?
most detailed video I've seen. Keep up the good work. Like and sub for sure.
Hi Cscastro, thanks for the comments you can be sure we are trying to improve our advice all the time. :-)
I have a LG Front loader washer. It is smoking!! Looks like the tub is rubbing against the rubber during spin cycle. Do you have a video on this?
Hi Liljenny, have a look at the movement on the drum lip between the bottom of the door seal. If the gap changes enough to contact the seal when you apply pressure on the drum and there is play allowing the gap to change more than a millimetre or so then the problem may be worn bearings so see this video: ruclips.net/video/XaFF2-Rl8Nc/видео.html
if the drum lip does not 'run true' when spun and the gap opens and closes as the drum is out os shape it can be knocked with a mallet to even the gap. If both previous checks are OK it is probably due to an out of balance load so clean any rubber from the lip and watch this video:
ruclips.net/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/видео.html
How to drum the water into the washing machine

Regards Rod
@@eSpares also no signs of damage to the motor. Not checked the drain pump but i will.

I have an LG top washing machine (WT-R1303DDF) with a tilted drum. What should I replace? Thank you.
Hi Omar, give us a clue!. we need to know what your problem is and what is working before we can offer advice. Have a look at our other diagnosis videos to identify what area your problem is:

I have an ageing Brandt WTC12995 top loading washing machine and when trying to unload 2 sopping wet pillows, I opened the drum, but the heavy pillows forced it to return to its original position, with the entrance open underneath and stuck! Is there any way that I can get at the drum entrance?
Hi Tony, if you take the side panel off you can get to the drum pulley, this will allow you to turn the pulley to re position the drum back to it's correct position, be careful as it may have damaged the drum flaps and it will be difficult to move.
verry nice video mate keep up! with new videos im working with appliances interesting! :)

Look on our website at the images for the paddle as if it only shows clips you may be able to remove it as shown in a similar video:

If there is something stuck and catching under the drum you may be able to fish it out by removing the heater, see another video for information:

+Cali Nekko Nice one Cali glad you sorted it. Hope we can help in the future.

Check for movement in the drum as shown at 1:28 if there is a lot of movement it is either due to worn bearings or a broken spider (the 3 legs that attach the drum to the shaft). IF there is little movement check for something caught between drum and tub as shown in this video:

Great the machine does have to be on a level surface, well-done paul.
The video is really informative and useful
Hi Mohanan, thank you for your post and glad you found it useful.
Not sure how effective your repair will be but to prevent damaging your machine in the future watch our video:

If there are no drum bearing sounds and spins by hand freely, what's a good way to check? We've rebuilt this machine, I know the drain cleaning technique and frequently do so, its tight on door lock and has no rust. The electronic controls seem to work well, constantly get the door and drain error. I clear those and it will work fine via boards, tested circuitry all normal. The drum just stopped spinning and I've not had luck finding troubleshooting or testing. I'm grateful if you have any additional ideas or suggestions since you seem to you know more than I've seen previously after exhaustive searches. Thanks in advance.
We have many diagnostic videos to help identify problems here:

Watch these first and we will be happy to help with any questions.
eSpares I appreciate and will be checking those immediately.
What can be done if spring hook attachment at drum side damaged
Hi Mallikarjun, if the spring is damaged it will need to be replaced.
Very useful vid ...thank you
Hi Ladypradaful, thank you for the post and glad you enjoyed our video.

Hi dobsonimages, hopefully, other people will have recommendations for you as we only deal with older machines and their problems.
Thank you for your time and great video @@eSpares
Hi dobsonimages, anytime you need help you know where to find us.
hi my aeg washmachine at times behaves very unbalanced, when it starts to spin at times the drum almost knocks out the side cover plate sheet, then it stops the movement and tries again.
For information see one of our other videos: How to Prevent a Washing Machines Spinning Noisily
www.espares.co.uk/advice/7/2401/how-to-prevent-a-washing-machines-spinning-noisily-
eSpares hi, thanks for the tip.
Great help, thanks.
Hi, thanks for your comment...hopefully we have helped you to find the cause of the issue you have with your washing machine!
Job well done. Lots of valuable information.
Hi hughbo52. Glad this video helped you. Remember to like and subscribe.
What's the fix if there is a wide gap between the drum and the door seal and it's eating/damaging my clothes?
Hi Oliver, it may suggest the bearings but have a look at this video to show you ruclips.net/video/XaFF2-Rl8Nc/видео.html
Hi Dianna, the UE error is an unbalanced load so do not try rearanging the load but watch our video: ruclips.net/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/видео.html
The screeching may be due to a failing drain pump.
i have a E:57 error on my bosch. Do you have any idea what caused it? Thanks

Great video and very helpful!
Thanks Tony, let us know when you find the problem.
Hi 08SammyCakes, definitely have a look inside at the suspension and tub springs as they may have dislodged.
We tried to address this with this video: ruclips.net/video/pxZIetevnSo/видео.html and

Your comments give us another oportunity to remind viewers of this potential danger.
Lg front loader smoking model F1247td5
sometimes even when I just turn the power on.
Hello, I have a question to the experts on a strange issue :)
My Electrolux suddenly started making a hollow pop noise, same as when a metal flexes.
Hi MrMaraxion, check the drum paddles are not loose as these can start to break and may make this sound.
Thank you for sharing us your videos. It is very informative.

Yes I will definitely watch all of it.
hi i have a beko wm5140w washing machine and it wont spin or drain how do i know if its the pump or the brushes
Hi Caroline, If you check out some of our other diagnosis videos you will see that if the machine has not emptied it will not spin.
The most likely cause will be something in the pump so see our video:

Sir I have a problem with a DAEWOO Washing machine when i connect it to the socket outlet it does not switch on i tested the supply cable its fine working but the machine is still not lighting what could be the cause for the machine not to light up?
Hi Theophilus Siyabulela, have you confirmed the socket is OK? check the circuit with a multimeter from the cable to the PCB, make sure you check for any loose connections.
I Will Sir Thank you very much.@@eSpares
Sir ,What is the Problem With The Washing Machine When a Washing Machine Display an Error Code EA on Display and what possible options could be taken?
If you cave this play then the bearings are definitely shot and require replacement.
ours had a short period of banging before it totally dided, no power to it now, changed fuses in mains and pug and its still dead.any ideas please ?
Good morning sir . I have AKAİ .Model 7090w-L1.Spume Inverter Drive Series. My washing machine problem . screen show.ED 1. After stop.you have soloution this fault.i m very thankful to you.
Hi Eran, we do not recognise your model as Google identifies it as a mobile phone. Please check your make and model.

The bearings went out in my washer is it better if I get a new drum or new bearings
See another one of our videos: ruclips.net/video/uKBy-9NEF5A/видео.html
Any time you notice a noisy spin if this is the problem the evidence will be in the drum when the machine stops.
