knowing that to use it live you've got to lug a cab anyway... maybe on the off-chance you use a real clean rig and you need a metal distortion you could use this instead, but why go through the trouble of aby-ing this thing? only real use for it i can think of is studio use to plug directly into the console.
knowing what i've said, i fully expect someone in the comments to come up with a great utility for it.

I just got a Jet City JCA50H and I love it. Affordable and brutal. Took me a little to get a good tone out of it because it was really fuzzy and flubby in the low end. but once I realised it just has too much gain on tap and dialed it back from 10 to 5. It's a nice tight crunchy metal machine.

If you're a guitarist and you share a dorm room at univeristy this thing is a very good alternative to an amp if you like pedals or already have some. But I don't think I'll ever buy that in a situation where space is an issue but I'd rather buy a sound card and some software.

Especially if you're the kind of person that wants to stay analog and not get a Kemper or an Axe Fx or something. The sound is so so to be honest, and the micro dark for me sucked after testing (the other one though...the micro terror which doesn't have the loop, that one ...rocks. Hard) so two questions,
Why not the micro dark? Similar price...looks better. More protected.
Secondly why wouldn't they up the wattage a bit...40 would be much better to let it breathe. For me it also lacked in preamp gain.
THAT said, man great riffs and playing. You got a fan. Again.

      @toemasmeems 4 года назад

You have no idea what youre talking about. Literally all of the gain on this is from the preamp anf theres a lot of gain too much in fact for modern metal. It needs to be boosted by a OD but also have the gain set to low, now a big concern to me is the amount of clean head room... Because basically it is just a glorified distortion pedal if it doesn't get loud while staying mostly clean. Also 20 Watts Class A/B is fucking LOUD. Doesn't compare to some Line 6 or even Marshall 20 Watt Solid state.

All the gain!........more gain!........😎. last comment in the video explains why the amp sounds nothing like a micro dark. He doesn’t play live which given the mix he’s put up in video just sounds like a metal drum and bass track. The guitar is not cutting through need to brighten up those tones and stop trying to occupy the frequencies that the bass and drums operate in.
But it’s not the end of the world some tweaking of settings and a much better sound is possible.
I own a micro dark and it’s a great amp really versatile and a cheap way to get some valve goodness in your life, but as with all gear if it’s not dialled in just right it can sound a bit pants.

Actually I do not understand/know everything I should I think, soooo I'm kinda lost about what to buy, lemme explain quick :
    - I don't have a heck lot of money, won't be able to spend like 800€ (around 700£ or 1000 $ maybe) at all, more like around 300€/400$/250£ (the conversion is done so bad XD It's late, Im sleepy).
    - I am aiming to play with a headset.
For the moment, I would like to buy an Ibanez, looking for a used one, like 200€ max (really wanted the rga42fm but It is kind of 300€ over what I can afford XD, damn its a beautiful guitar, kinda sad), I found an rg 350 dx for 200€, might buy that quick :)
I do absolutly not know how to achieve my goal wich is playing metal with a headset on, I do not know if I need pedals or it could be done with a small amp, DO I EVEN NEED an amp since I am going to have an headset ? Can this lil kind of amp/pedal be used alone ?
If anyone takes the time to read this, fisrt of all you are brave, this text must be full of errors in the language, I'm not english at all, sorry about that, and then, If you can help me figuring out what to do, I would really appreciate it ! Have a great day.

    • @ThatBaritoneGuitarGuy

They are quite different. Tonally, the Micro Dark has WAY more gain, and requires a Tube Screamer to get any useful sounds. It also has less mids, because metal. Basically, if your primary amplifier if a 5150, then the Micro Dark is your gig bag amp. As for the Micro Terror, it has more mids, less gain, more of a general multitasker. This is what you want if you prefer more Marshall-Fender sort of tones. The Micro Dark is what you want if you only care about metal.
Functionally, the Micro Terror has an Aux in, so you can plug in your MP3 player, if anyone still has those. So, this is your bedroom amp for jamming to backing tracks. The Micro Dark has an effects loop, so this is your gigging amp.

    • @bfluker85

Depends on - I think not, there are small effect pedals like Chase Bliss Dark World cost much more then this Amp and the Orange Stamp got Tubes in it.

Fizz and flub is all I hear. There is no mid definition. Maybe not a metal pedal but I want one for the versatility!!. It sounds great doing Rock tones. Metal mehhhh.... No.

As a tube amp user who gigs, I've always considered this as a perfect backup without the fuss of owning and maintaining a second tube amp. I feel like people are figuring out how to build pedals that are close enough that in a live situation, it would respond in a similar enough way and sound virtually identical. And honestly from the way the notes bloom in this video, I'm fuckin sold.

“Orange is sponsoring this video” says it all… a useless and highly biased video review.
After ordering and receiving a STAMP today (having heard so many good things about it) I was seriously disappointed.
At first, I thought the unit must be faulty, but after doing some experimentation (i.e. trying a couple of what I know to be good ECC83 tubes in it, as I suspected that the factory tube was bad) I now realise that this is just badly conceived and manufatured product. Just another example of the corporate bean counters crippling an otherwise good idea/product and bringing it to the market at a price point.
Orange’s own web site states that it can go from ‘crystal-clean to thundering high-gain’, however the clean sound is not fit for purpose.
There is a nasty strange fizz/electronic fuzz that is superimposed over any notes or chords that the user plays (most noticeable when playing lower pitched notes) through the unit when on Channel 1 with the gain set low.
One way to describe this nasty weird ‘effect’ is that, it sounds like one is playing an otherwise quite nice clean tone through a blown speaker. Useless and unusable for any kind of direct recording.
They couldn’t even be bothered to buffer the on off switch to save folks from blowing their speakers/headphones.

Same here. I ordered it because of all these heavy demos on RUclips. I spent three evenings manipulating the tone to make it somewhat useable but I couldn't make it sound good at all. The more drive I used the more fuzz-like it sounded. There was no definition in the palm mutes, the Tone knob successfully managed to avoid usable frequency crossovers and worst of all - it swallowed single notes like a heavy compressor. I've tried it with my trusty compressor pedal infront of the amp, an EQ pedal infront/after the preamp but there was no chance. The tone wasn't even near something that I like about Orange amps. So, I returned it.
Then I researched for an alternative and bought a Joyo JF22 Oxford Sound. This thing is only 30-50$ (depending on where you live) and does a really good job. It has a classic set of pre-amp controls, a voice knob and much gain to offer.
It is great for recording with an IR and if you buy a Nux Mini Studio or a Sonicake IR (both around 60$) you also have something to use for live gigs. It has no power amp to drive a real cabinet, but there are workarounds. If an ampless rig is nothing for you, you could still buy an Orange Crush 35RT. That one is good for both live and recording, affordable and lightweight.
