Hey Grovel. Could you post here a link to how to drop the lower unit I'm looking through your videos and I'm not seeing it. I can only drop the lower unit about 2 or 3 inches. Before the shifting Rod stops .
The power head has to be removed on this model of outboard. There’s 7 bolts holding it in place from under the pan. Disconnect the choke and slow/fast needles as well as fuel line and magneto lever. Then the power head will pull straight out, in the same direction as the driveshaft.
Again, an excellent teach. Thank-you and so will the kids when the 5.5 is powering their vessel.
Have you posted video on lower unit seal kit I'm working on 1956 evinrude 5.5HP and I want to replace them
Interesting approach, never considered pulling the upper driveshaft out!
Question. Was the old water pump in backwards b/c you put the new one in opposite. Mine was the same way
I was going to ask the same thing..

Put mine in pumps water up to the power head, put power head on and no water out any ideas? With drill on full speed water goes bout half inch up
Same motor 1957 7.5 hp
looked like a pretty good impeller to me
I think when you put the impeller in he pushed it in they were bent the wrong way I think
What about a gasket? You put the impellor the opposite way of the old one.
