Molly and I went out on the Findlay Reservoir the other day. We all had a great time! If the color is off, it's due to someone (me) dropping the camera.

1936 Johnson J-80 1.7 hp. When I got this, it didn't have a fuel line, muffler, or working condenser. Here are some before and after pics and the "after" video.
Cleaning an Old Outboard Tank

This is one method to clean a dirty gas tank on an antique or classic outboard motor. The tank is from a 1936 Johnson J-80. The gravel came from the side of a road.

A guy brought this to me saying the powerhead was burned up and it would barely turn over. What he had was a broken shock absorber in the lower unit; that was binding things up. It did have low compression, so I put set of rings in it, replaced the shock and a few other things and now, it purrs!

I am selling my AD-12. The video was done on June 18, 2011. The motor has been completely gone through with new coils, points, condensers, wires, carb kit, water pump, and lower unit seals. It is a low-hour and very clean motor. To contact me, go to aomci.org and go to their webtertise page.
Hail Storm in Findlay, OH May 25, 2011
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.13 лет назад
A series of video clips from the hail storm that went through our neighborhood. A lot of damage was done, but no one was injured. About 20 minutes after the hail stopped, heavy rains came down for at least 1/2 hour. This went on from early evening to early morning.
1958 7-1/2 hp Johnson AD-12 on the Findlay Reservoir

I picked up this motor about 3 weeks ago. It was as clean a motor as I have ever seen, and it runs as good as it looks! I replaced the coils, points, condensers, wires and ends, water pump, gearcase seals, and rebuilt the carb. This has to be one of the best, if not the best, running motors in my collection.

Charlie's 1956 5-1/2hp Johnson Model CD running on my 12' Mirrocraft on the Findlay Reservoir - May 21, 2011. This is a very smooth running motor. It idles way down (you could troll all day long) and absolutely purrs at any other speed!

I picked up this AD-12 a couple of weeks ago. It is a very clean and low hour motor and runs as good as it looks. I'll get it out on the reservoir soon.

This 1956 CD-13 was owned by a guy named Charlie who succumbed to cancer. I got it from Randy (oldschooll), a cancer survivor, last fall. The motor received a complete disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and new or donor: coils, points, wires, piston rod, leaf valve plate, carburetor, water pump, lower unit gears and seals, and gaskets. The result is one sweet running motor!

Probably the last run of the year. 72 degrees when I left; 62 when I got back. But the little CD again proved itself to be one of the best motors ever made.

Perfect explanation
Thanks! Destroying my 1958 evinrude 7.5 hp and couldnt remove lower unit or magneto.
EXCELLENT video. Keep up the great presentations !
Thanks I needed this video. I just got a 1956 CD-13A 1492473 I'm looking forward to rebuilding it for my 12ft jon boat. Where do you get parts? Thanks for sharing.
Crowley Marine crowleymarine.com. has been my go to source.
I have a Gale buccaneer 1961 5hp I can’t find how to get it off now I do thanks videos on lower unit showing how too are hard to find on buccaneers
DANG, that things scoots along nicely, that prop is some sort of miracle
What a beauty! Runs so quiet and smooth, but your 1980 7.5hp runs rings around this one at WOT
What did you do to unfreeze it?
Great boat and engine. I challenge any dumb old 4 stroke to run this smooth and quietly
What a beauty, luck you!
What a great rig, planes easily and zips along nicely. That Johnson is beautiful
Thanks great video, time to pull some wrenches
I inherited one of these boats and motors is there any walk throughs about these motors
Thank you so much for this video
very helpful. working on a later model (63) and screws have become nuts, like me! But if you are here for the same reason, a swivel between the socket and extension is a must. keep'em alive fellas
Wow i have looked for days how to remove the bottom but now i know. Thanks.
great tip. thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Very helpfull video, thanks a lot!!
I have a 1957 Evinrude Fleetwin 7.5 HP and have a bad rod too, question, where did you find the new / used rod(s)? I've found a new crank, but no luck with the rods. Thanks!
We own the identical motor. Haven't used it for many years but the sound is the same. Of note is the fact that you are the only person who has tied the motor to the boat. We had a Johnson 22 literally "walk" off the transom and nearly lost it. Now, all motors have a safety rope for this reason.
I have to work on a 1960 5.5, this really helps! Thank you!
I think when you put the impeller in he pushed it in they were bent the wrong way I think
Omg how do you protect your car???
what was the seal that you replaced and where may i find it?
OMC Part # 0303355 Drive shaft to crankcase Gasket. $2.95 at crowleymarine.com. Also at marine engine.com for $2.46.
This looks like what I need to do for an old 1956 Gale 5HP that I inherited. Tried everything else and that baby won't come out.... will pull the motor next.... talk about a can of worms! Thank you for your video!
Great video , watched this a few years back and have been successful every time and I've done about 18 of them thank you sir very nice presentation,😁
You're the man !
What about a gasket? You put the impellor the opposite way of the old one.
Where’s the front cover panel own one myself.
Just saw this 2 days ago on Airbus A321-200 on take off :)) I realized immediately that is condensation, but I was wondering if there would be hysteria in the cabin. Nobody paid attention...
I hear crickets!
Fff
Amazing just plain hauling ass for a 2.. Thanks.. You rock.. Thanks.😁
You're video is useless as a $5 hoar You didn't bother showing of what you were going
Put mine in pumps water up to the power head, put power head on and no water out any ideas? With drill on full speed water goes bout half inch up
Same motor 1957 7.5 hp
When I flying back to where I lived I was like OMG THE PLAIN IS ON FIRE, turns out it was the ac.
Do you have any experience with a 56 evinrude 15hp? it is very similiar but I only see 5 screws on the bottom to remove the powerhead...Let me know and thank you for the video... shipleych@gmail.com
My 1957 7.5 was working fine when I bought it but took it to test and it wouldn't shift gear took it apart long time ago and now I can get it back on if u finish the video on assembly everything back it will help a lot thanks
Thanks for this video. I removed the 4 lower bolts and wondered why the leg would not pull out. Excellent.
How much is this repair going for
love those old FD models. What kind of wood did you use on the transom? Im going to replace mine at the end of the season. I have a 1975 fd.
its not due to the outside humidity. its mainly because the air supplied by the air con is reaching dew point temperature in the cabin. thats why you see the vapor forming.
wow..7.5HP? Dam that thing is awesome!
My 1962 FD14 will do 26mph with it's 1969 25hp Evinrude Sportster. -With just me in it. Nice to see another one still going!
It goes like a 3. It really pushes.
That's a powerful 7.5hp indeed! Always loved the 1980 Johnson graphics
Great video! Do you leave the motor in Neutral?
Hey could you tell me the correct oil mix for this motor I read so many different things I need to hear from someone who really knows
WOW awsome
Every journey I went on this year (4 flights) each one of them did that except the flight out from Heathrow
