i listend to this vid with big headphones on..the 12 string bass crack that kirk jason and the other guy r listening to in wherever i may roam is heavy!
Shit, "Wherever I May Roam" got me into Metallica in the first place. It's still one of my favorites (along with all of Master of Puppets and choice others). :-)
@FadeToBlack181 the truth is that metallica doesn't need virtuoso bassist. jason technique was enough, his sound is badass, and he's a brilliant character with great backing vocals.
yeah, a lot of that stuff sounds different on the CD than in the studio, if you really want the metallica tone you need a mesa boogie. Bob did help a lot and help steer the metallica ship.
only if you slave a mesa into it, they only use marshall 4x12 cabinets with vintage 30s. They havent used marshalls alone since ride the lightning and kill em all, but still they used tubescreamers and a pro co rat on those 2 albums.
james never uses any pedals. He only used a tubescreamer on Ride the Lightning and a Proco Rat of Kill Em All. He used ESP explorers and a mesa boogie mark IIC+ for all that scooped sound. You can hear the Mark IV on the verses for enter sandman.
Any band would kill for the success of Metallica, post or pre black album. All 5 albums after ...and justice for all are number 1 albums. you really don't get it. there aren't 2 Metallica! just one huge Metallica. if you like the first part no problem, listen to that, but don't blame them for not becoming boring and old...
@GunManDamn Only if you have low standards or are stuck in the '80s or something. Metallica themselves have said Master and Black are their best albums.
It's quite amaqzing how Hetfield can play leads to save his life, obviously i'm omitting puppets,to live is to die, nothing eles matters, 2x4 etc but you know what I mean.
i think its kinda funny james wrote like every riff on the first four albums, and like the one riff that kirk writes turns out to be their most popular song lol
very complicated. Take a mesa boogie mark IV and a IIC+, the mark 4 with more mids, the IIc scooped, then he doubles those two in one center track to give a wall of four guitars. YOU CANT AUTOMATICALLY PREDICT AMP SETTINGS. put the high at 7 bass at 6 mid at 1.5 gain maxxed, from what i've gotten.
6:25 damn james never stops impressing me always thought the man was a riffmaster on the guitar ... he usually dont shred alot and do some neckbreaking solo's... that was a pretty dman awesome solo he should do it more often
nothing that inspires people is to be called fail. All Metallica songs, albums, have personality, just because you don't get it that dose not mean it's a "fail".
i donpt know what´s so great about Enter Sandman...when i first heard that song i hated it, sad but true, through the never, don´t tread on me, the unforgiven, nothing else matters & wherever may i roam are the only things worth a listen on that album were metallica converted into a Hard rock band
@phototristan yeah because they sold the most with those two albums. of course metallica knows kill 'em all and ride the lightning are thrashier and heavier than master of puppets. don't even make me talk about black album, it's a pop album. don't get me started on a pop album.
the unforgiven is one of the greatest metal ballads of all time
They were at their peak of career in 199, they looked so amazing, with their goofy mustashes, hard riffs and playboy magazines of course
i listend to this vid with big headphones on..the 12 string bass crack that kirk jason and the other guy r listening to in wherever i may roam is heavy!
this is my fav album! ALL TIME CLASSIC!!!
What Michael Kamen does in this video is amazing.
This and Master of Puppets are their best albums. Period.

James's solo on Sandman was pretty cool.

A year and a half in the life of Metallica tape one
"thickner" is when you record multiple guitar recordings on top of each other to make the sound thicker!
I like James face at 6:33 his like wow i played that
lmao that totally killed the serious mood that bob was trying to set
james never uses any pedals. He only used a tubescreamer on Ride the Lightning and a Proco Rat of Kill Em All. He used ESP explorers and a mesa boogie mark IIC+ for all that scooped sound. You can hear the Mark IV on the verses for enter sandman.
Classic albums i think. A prog. on tv. Not a dvd.
Its from a tv programme called Classic Albums
The solo james does...class. they should hav left jays riff the full length for my friend of misery.
James' solo on Sandman is sooooooooo epic win!
SUCK THIS KIRK!
Such a beautiful piece that Newstead wrote.
Any band would kill for the success of Metallica, post or pre black album.

6.26 great solo for enter sandman!
@GunManDamn Only if you have low standards or are stuck in the '80s or something. Metallica themselves have said Master and Black are their best albums.

6:32 PRICELESS FACE
METALLICA 4 LIFE!
It's quite amaqzing how Hetfield can play leads to save his life, obviously i'm omitting puppets,to live is to die, nothing eles matters, 2x4 etc but you know what I mean.
@MrHeavysteel yeah i would give that era 10 out of 10 lowest they ever go is like a 7.5
@1xxMCRxxROCKSxx1 And Wherever you may roam!
I hear it too...
i think its kinda funny james wrote like every riff on the first four albums, and like the one riff that kirk writes turns out to be their most popular song lol
great album!
all that was almost 19 years ago!
my friend of misery sounds sweet on bass
because they were doing the drums tracks and they had to wait till lars was ready .. which took all night
R.I.P Michael Kamen

This album cost 1 million to make and you can hear every penny of it put to use. Some use 10 mics to record drums, lars used 40-50.
I don't care what anyone says - I love the Black Album!
yes he did
@sloppyjimboxiuxiu I'm actually astounded at my grammatical FUCKUP there. Thanks for pointing it out
fuck that metallica is badass
DUDE! Newsted looks like the front man from All that Remains! ha....
4:19 KAJJJONNNGGGG!!!!
6:25 damn james never stops impressing me always thought the man was a riffmaster on the guitar ... he usually dont shred alot and do some neckbreaking solo's... that was a pretty dman awesome solo he should do it more often
RIP MIchael
4:19 CHONG!
20 years of the BLACK ALBUM wonder if there gonna do the same thing as when they marked 20 years of puppets! play every song live?
nothing that inspires people is to be called fail. All Metallica songs, albums, have personality, just because you don't get it that dose not mean it's a "fail".
i liked it.
haha! nice solo at 6:28 - xD
james know how to solo;D
@0yavuz yeah
This guy.
Jason Newstead.
This is when Jason decided he would leave Metallica, after James told him "other arrangements can be made"
no, that's obviously way later if you look at their hair
@metallicaandkornrock WTF lol You think hetfield could shread the unforgiven or damage inc solos etc? i dont think so!
james kick kirk ass at soloing jejee
It seemed like James was trying to down play his solo in sandman, idk why, it sounded pretty killer, and why it wasnt on the album is beyond me
james solo should have been the real enter sandman solo!
6:50 HHAHA
The bassist who did Some kind of Monster stuff while rob was on tour?
yeah...i tought that...
where can i get this footage on the complet version?
one of their albums in my opinion. i mean lk their first 5 albums kicked so much ass

i donpt know what´s so great about Enter Sandman...when i first heard that song i hated it, sad but true, through the never, don´t tread on me, the unforgiven, nothing else matters & wherever may i roam are the only things worth a listen on that album were metallica converted into a Hard rock band
What DVD is this from?
oh.. :)
Who thinks this is metallicas best album the black album.
@phototristan yeah because they sold the most with those two albums. of course metallica knows kill 'em all and ride the lightning are thrashier and heavier than master of puppets. don't even make me talk about black album, it's a pop album. don't get me started on a pop album.
