The thing with James n Kirk is that they are really talented guitar players. They just don't do solo albums or side projects like Petrucci or Wylde...or Gilbert or Slash. so thats y they don really get a chance to show off their skills. If you listen to all solos n rhythms on 'tallica albums, some many are really technical and some riffs are harder than other band's solos.....so they are both gr8... \m/

James has a deep throaty voice, while Dave has a creepy, growly voice.. they are both perfect Heavy Metal voices, period, just at different ends of the spectrum!
james is seriously under rated. Yes kirk is the better soloist but then again he learned from satch. soloing is not the only aspect of playing guitar. It is such a versatile instrument and james is one of the best. We can all agree that james is a rhythm riffing bad ass. Having said that his solo are really good as well. He tends to focus on making every note unique while kirk is a technique wiz. James could be a lead if he wanted.

James is much better, he have feelings in his guitarplaying. I think Kirk got that a little less. Kirks solos is pretty much the same, but that I understand. It's hard when you are gonna make solos to 300 songs, that it has variation. But although, I think James is the best guitar player of Metallica. He got the technique, and the worlds best downpicker! + he understand the music best I think
James always composes the songs.. sometimes with the help of Lars or with a bit of help from Kirk... Kirk only improvises the solos and if they sound good, they stay on the final track.
