I kinda agree with him, CP2077 is bad and good at the same time, and show us how the corporate in CDPR is to blame in this whole mess, not the developers
It’s an amazing game that is still unfinished. To play devils advocate for just one minute. I understand that COVID had forced CDPR management to cut corners when they said that they wouldn’t. Also, think of the sh*t show that would happen if they delayed it again. The devs received death threats when they delayed it one month.
That baby's definitely on The List. I haven't played it, but it looks like it's got good similarities between two of my favorite games, EverOasis and Okami.
It's fun in a vacuum, but in the context of Hollow Knight existing it feels very derivative. I don't think there's a single new mechanic (compared to Blind Forest) that isn't heavily inspired by Hollow Knight. Even the little race challenges feel like just a twist on the dream roots in HK.
@@danielleanderson6371 I liked it better than Ori 1 because of the improved combat, but the stories in either games don’t really do anything for me, especially when compared to something like Hollow Knight.
@@ArcanaEric Hollow knight doesnt hv a story.Same for dark souls. They hv youtube channels for that.Pretty lame. Its all "there was a kingdom...and then blah blah blah." Combat and boss designs is where it shines above any game for me...not the story. Ori 2 has amazing boss fights.Too bad they dumbed down escape sequences cause ppl were crying on internet.
Great to see you back at it, buddy. Don't agree with several of your choises, but that's alright. If all I wanted was agreement, I'd talk to my aunt's parrot. Happy new year Projared.
I couldn't bring myself to muster any interest in Phasmophobia personally, it just didn't sound good to me... and observing it didn't sway me at all. Always glad to hear Hades getting love though, that game rules :D
Phasmophobia is one of those games that I would never play myself, but I had a lot of fun watching other people play it. I can also appreciate that it was made by just one person . lol
@@LKNear Or the fact that it wasn't what I wanted at all. I just wanted a prettier FF7 with voice acting. I got, essentially a new game with familiar characters and a sorta familiar sorta not familiar story. Better than FFXV though.
Honestly, my favorite game I've played this year is Cyberpunk (PC). Yes, there's an absolute ton of bugs. Yes, I would've loved not to have the montage of my time with Jackie. Yes, this game has some huge problems and it needs many improvements in many areas. But I've had a blast playing it. I can't remember the last time I was so free in choosing how I wanted to tackle missions.
Jared, I am HIGHLY disappointed in you. Yes, it's a good list. Yes, I agree with you on many part. But you neglected to mention THE single most important aspect of Hades: You can pet Cerberus.

There's so much pettiness online. TLOU2 has won 98 goty awards so far and 26 of those were fan voted. if someone hates it that's completely cool. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But this dumb childish idea that it only appears on lists out of an obligation is ridiculous. What an idiot.
@Matthew Muckleroy you’re in no position to put yourself above anyone here buddy. You’ve just declared last of us pt 2 the “best game ever” as far as I can tell, you basically just asked to get called out on your BS.

Im an animal crossing fan. My best friend is a Doom fan. I 100% approve this! I’m just happy to see the friendship between these two franchises. Best thing to happen this year in my opinion.
Great video overall and I enjoyed listening to your insights about why each game you picked ranked amongst your top 10 for this year. However, I do have a bone to pick about cyberpunk. In your previous worst games top 10 lists you decried developers like ubisoft for shoving out broken, unfinished, and overall unpolished products before they were ready for the purpose of generating extra profits. Yet CD Projekt Red's cyberpunk, which is just as guilty of this practice, if not even more (especially considering the blatant deception they did with the console versions of the game) gets a free pass? The console versions of this game are straight up unplayable and even the PC version is not very well optimized and riddled with glitches and bugs. I understand that the core game of cyberpunk is great and certainly better than say something like 2014's watch dogs, but at the end of the day when a developer launches a game, I expect to be able to play it and enjoy it when it comes out on launch day. And I know I'm certainly not in the minority here when I say that cyberpunk falls so far from that mark that it's embarrassing. To me, it doesn't matter how great a game is or could be, if it launches in a broken unfinished (for some people straight up unplayable) state then it's not a good game. That's not even considering CD projekt red's blatant deception with regards to how they tried to cover up how glitchy and unplayable the game was until the last possible moment. Anyways I'll get off my soapbox now, just wanted to get that rant off my chest. Love your content as always Jared and hope to see more of you in 2021.
Even if FF7R was my personal favorite game o 2020, Doom Eternal was so amazing and a *very* close second for me that I don’t mind it taking the top spot. I didn’t think any game other than FF7R could top Crash 4, XCDE and P5R for me, but apparently I was wrong!
He has no idea how bad the scalping is, especially now with people using checkout bots that are faster than any human, it was never like this In the past.
You haven't heard shit then. You only seem to be listening to "How bad it is for PS4" well guess what, It's NOT bad on PC or the new consoles. Thats why people review the PS4/Xbone seperately
@@kyero8724 not everyone can afford a nasa computer though. I’d say most people couldn’t afford the pc necessary to run the game. It’s limited how many people can actually play it. Even with a decent pc it still has bugs. Lots of em. I know a lot of people can look past bugs which is great for them. But to me the game is unfinished and if it wasn’t worth the developers time to see it completed then it’s not worth my time to play it. Plus I’m still angry about all the nonsense the company got up to during development. Stuff like crunch is unacceptable and the fact they said they wouldn’t before doing it, and doing it during the hay day of the pandemic. It’s disgusting.
@@AnimatedTerror You don't need a 'NASA' computer to run the game decently, the same hyperbolic nonsense was flung around when TW3 launched. The game runs perfectly well on a modern entry-mid level gaming system, you just need to adjust your expectations accordingly. You're not going to run the game at 4K with maxed out details on a five year old potato sure, but any modern entry level gaming PC will do just fine with medium settings at 1080P, and it'll still look and run a hell of a lot better than the PS4/Xbone. For reference I got it running on my brothers rig with mixed settings with a constant 60FPS, that's running a Ryzen 2600/16GB of RAM, and an 8GB RX580 -- the game looks great and plays well, and that's all on 3-4l year old mid-range hardware.
@@AnimatedTerror NASA computer? Sounds like console peasant rant here. My rig with a RTX 2070 Super and Ryzen 7 3700x (costed me $800 in 2019, now worth about $1500) and I'm averaging 60-70fps in 1440p. Visual bugs aren't a big thing to me, I'm not going to kill myself over not seeing the correct textures of a floating cigarette. I have 120 hours into the game without one single crash. And you're extremely misinformed about its development. The devs received death threats because they delayed the game. And another delay was scheduled before its release, but the death threats continued.
Hell yes. Thank you for giving Doom Eternal the spotlight. Without a doubt the most engaging and enjoyable first person shooter experience I have ever had
Final Fantasy VII Remake was my GOTY; I am in the camp that’s concerned about what the ending will open up for future installments, but I still really enjoyed my playthroughs.
@The Drunken Coward Of course it's a no-brainer. But some douches would choose to make up names/characters, rather than do some research. It's not that common, at least not anymore, but it happened enough that I know it's a thing people do.
Hades is not a rogue like. Hades is a rogue lite without the slightest margin of doubt. Rogue lites aren't "worse", but they ARE a different genre. It's like categorizing COD, half life and counterstrike global under the same genre.
Trails of Cold Steel 4 & Persona 5 Royal were some of my favorites this year. I didn't really like FF7R, not a fan of the action style combat and the changes to the story.
I played Animal Crossing new horizons on launch, but I was playing it wrong. It was more like a competition to get all items (because of what I saw online) This video made me want to start fresh and play it the way it was intended :)
For as many memes and laughs that CP2077 has brought with it's bugs and glitches and countless hours of RUclipsrs capitalising off that, there is a good game underneath all the bugs. It just needed more time in the oven. Oh, and Doom Eternal was robbed this year. And Ghost of Tsushima. Fuck that zombie game that swept all the awards this year. Can't wait for the worst list of 2020 just to hear Jared unleash all of his hate and vitriol at bad games.
Overall solid pics, though FFVII Remake feels like forever ago. Of this list I only played 3 of them (9, 6 & 2) and yeah, they're all great. Now I'm just wondering if we'll get a worst list this year (since we didn't get a best last year).
Nice to see that FF7R made the top 3 - I've still got to get back to it though ^^; Kinda got too engrossed in Animal Crossing given everything going on, and my PS4 slowly dying over the last few months haven't helped on that matter either, why I had to give up on Crash 4 for the time being, as well. Until I can get a PS5, anything PlayStation related has to wait (cause seriously, I'm not shelling out around £300 on a temporary replacement PS4, and I can imagine repairs would be at least £100 as well XP)
Maybe I’m just a biased nippon ichi fan, but I had a ton of fun playing utawarerumono: prelude to the fallen. Fantastic visual novel and tile based strategy.
So... i guess we just skip the best games of 2019? Yeah, i know, there weren‘t a lot of „best games“ material, but i genuinely still would‘ve loved to listen to Jared‘s opinion.
The new UnderNight was amazing, even my friends who don't like traditional fighters or the anime art style found something to love about it. It's core gameplay makes it my favourite fighting game I've ever played
Hades is my number 1, everything in it is so on point. There's no extra fat here, there's nothing that feels like a slip-up or could have been cut or made better. An absolute gem in a genre that will never get the respect or hype that a triple-a title will get, but it absolutely is deserving of honors.
Another thing about Hades that makes it so great is the sense of growth and not a single run feeling worthless. It also is very welcoming to people who have never played a roguelike before with god mode, a setting to make the easier but not effortless and it never feels like something you should be ashamed about. It is simply a way for people to enjoy the story and characters and if they struggle with the controls it gives them some levity so when finally feel confident enough to go without it, the challenge feels satisfying and rewarding.
"I found myself enjoying a genre I typically dont", I felt exactly the same way, having never gotten into the new Deus Ex games. Jumped into Cyberpunk and loving it still.
This was my wife's experience. She can't stand most first person games, and the only FPS/TPS she has ever really played is FO4 (then New Vegas). She generally would stick to VATS as much as possible until she was overpowered. She loved what she saw of the world of Cyberpunk and wanted to try the game. She was hooked immediately. I play it as well, but it is really something unique for her.
I’d like to see you take the YMS approach to top 10 lists, waiting until you play as many games as possible and releasing the video the following year, not rushing to make it before the years end.
10: The game looks awesome, not to mention it is basically a new game, I'll pick it up once I'm done with the Collection Of Mana. 9: Not my kind of genre anymore, but I'll admit, the game looks sick! 8: I never heard of the title and what I've seen, just doesn't interest me. 7: I really, really not give a rats ass about this franchise, however, I can acknowledge, that the game has helped people get through this horrid year. 6: God, I honestly wished this game wasn't gonna get taken down off Switch come March, I didn't think I'd like this game, but damn, Mario Bros. 35 is freaking awesome! 5: I want to play this, I really want to, I want a working game, I will wait for the PC version to be bugless, or at least not riddled with nonsense, I feel bad for console owners. 4: I want to be happy we have new consoles, but when scalpers have devastated the market, that consumers may not be able to buy a console from the store till maybe March/April, and this launch is much worse than any launch I've seen, in all honesty, we can wait awhile before the consoles are worth buying. 3: I! FUCKING! LOVE! THIS! GAME! The developers have nailed it again, Bastion, Transistor & now Hades, these guys deserve so much more! 2: Oh my god, I absolutely fucking love this game, I love almost everything about Final Fantasy VII Remake, I cannot wait for the next couple of parts if this amount of effort and detail is consistent, I LOVE the original, I love this remake! 1: Doom Eternal is a blessing, a true, proper rip & tear experience! If there is a Doom 3 of this style, I want more & more of this, the game is pure non-stop FUN & ADEREALINE!
That number 1 shocks me. I have heard recently a few give it GOTY, their personal choice, but it's weird cause when it came out......never heard much great about it. Just hey it's a new Doom. That kind of feel. I loved Final Fantasy 7 but they ruined the ending. Other than that, it's amazing for the battle system and it's the first game I started over and played on hard mode. Mainly cause I didn't get Leviathan and Bahamut and just can't let that go lol. Loved Resident Evil 3 despite what people say. But now that I think about it, how much do you gotta hate it to put something like Mario 35 at halfway point and RE3 not even being on there? yeeshhh. That's pretty bad lol. Then again you put Mario 35 above Trials of Mana as well.

Didn't play it yet, but even I know it definitely deserves the spot.
Nope.

First positive review of Cyberpunk I've heard. Also, Hades, hhheck yeah.

The fact that Hades' son is named Zagreus brings joy to my mythology enthusiast's heart.
Well, I mean, that would be a no-brainer, to name Hades' son in a mythology based game after a character that was Hades' son in mythology.
Wild that cyberpunk is both the best and worst.

I have one game that may have been only released in Japan but just came out a few months ago so... does this count?
13 Sentinels Aegis Rim!
My favorites this year were probably FF7 Remake, Animal Crossing, and Persona 5 Royal
"I found myself enjoying a genre I typically dont", I felt exactly the same way, having never gotten into the new Deus Ex games. Jumped into Cyberpunk and loving it still.

I play it as well, but it is really something unique for her.
@@Walamonga1313 same
@@christophersholes1377 Yeah, it really is hard to categorize Cyberpunk, its a genre unto itself.
I’d like to see you take the YMS approach to top 10 lists, waiting until you play as many games as possible and releasing the video the following year, not rushing to make it before the years end.
I have to give a special mention to Trails of Cold Steel 4, for my GOTY
Haha...
Wonderful list Jared. Alot of great picks on there that I still need to get around to picking. Doom Eternal is on sale for 67% off on Steam atm......
