I unironically love this game. I remember getting really into the story as a kid, to the point where finding out Dominique was a robot actually made me really sad.
yeah I dont get why this game got so much dislike from people. This game was pretty awesome for a beat-em-up on the PS2. The story was pretty okay-ish, the combat was actually really good with only 1-2 fighters being very cheesy. A ton of unlockable characters, and a fun level up system. Honestly, it still holds up well today, and Id still recommend it to anyone.
I played it at a friend's place for hours and he looked at me weird for enjoying it then when time came to go back home I asked if he was willing to exchange it for one of my games and he just said "take it, I don't need this garbage". Every flaw you listed is completely correct but this is still one of my all time favorite games. It's just so over the top that I can't help but love it. Like, one of those loading screens will tell you that Sion got his job by running into the Bar of Fate shouting "Somebody kill me! Use a gun if you have to!" And the bartender was just like "Yes, this seems like the sort of stable young man I should hire."

I unironically love this game, which I've learned is a damning sign. I used to think that the Trinity Attack was handy as a finisher to ensure you get the points for the kill. Also, trying to pull off the Trinity Attack on the final boss always fails (the only place I think that happens) and you take damage.

I'm 33, I was like 11 or 12 when I played this game. While I don't remember the story being so short or so bad in my memories of the game, it was hilarious to see you point out there was only 30 or so minutes of gameplay in a playthrough, and all the janky movement and attack stuff. I loved the ability to switch characters and do new playthroughs, it was pretty cutting edge for the time it seemed. Also at the time, those graphics were insanely good. I think the thing I loved most was the versus mode with friends. Dominique had like insane damage but almost no HP. I had a buddy who'd only play shirtless Duragon and do OP moves. By far the best memory though was the four of us all playing as Wong and doing what we called "The Napalm Palm", where he walks like 6 long paces straight forward and then punches his palm outwards and yells. If it connected it would do insane damage and if memory serves, create a fireball on impact and send their body absolutely flying. We essentially had old-man jousting battle royales. Thanks for digging up these dusty ass memories!
Crazy how much overlap existed back in the day. Like how Echidnas moveset is just Eddy from Tekken 3; or how the character portrait for Kou is just a retrace of Laguna from FF8.
That was one of the first PS2 games I ever owned. I thought the main character looked so cool when I was younger, I always got the impression Dominique was more like an adopted sister to both Sion and Duragon. But man, unlocking everyone and playing the multiplayer with your friend was good too. Ragdolls especially at the time were rare, so ragdolling some old kung fu master near a water fountain was hilarious. You got to play as almost all the main story people if I remember right, the panther, , Duragon in all his forms, the amount of times we made fun of his overalls. I love that game, but it's definitely of its time.
I preordered this game back in the day at my local game store. As a teen, I loved it. Believe it or not back then it was really a show piece for the PS2, at least graphically. It looked amazing for a launch game. But I also really liked Tobal No. 1 on the OG PS. Which had the same developer.

That "DEAD" part at the end is great stuff. Good job! I have nice memories of The Bouncer from when I was young. My friend and I would play together and take turns going back and forth as "our character" on each level. I chose Volt and he used Sion. Super fun stuff! The game isn't great, as you said, but it's absolutely worth playing.
The Bouncer is one of my guilty pleasure games. I actually really enjoyed the game and I enjoyed it so much that I played through the game multiple times.
OMFG I can't stop laughing...naming my favorite part of this is nearly impossible because I played the shit out of this in high school and I had a regrettable "Nomura" phase as an artist and creative writer (Which is thankfully taillights at this time!)
Kou was always my favorite bouncer. He had this 7 hit kick combo that just makes beating up enemies a breeze... Until he starts using it as an NPC and steals all your kills.
I gotta be honest, the most mind blowing part of this entire video is the revalation that "If you press the button harder the attack does more damage" is true
All this time y'all thought it was a meme. People joking, "You know pressing it harder makes you go faster, or jump higher". But it was true all along.
The comedic timing here was brilliant! Great video 🤣🤣 I had this game and despite the flaws actaully liked it. At the time the graphics were unbelievable. Also, the back of the case makes it clear its an interactive movie. Also, does anyone remember the tech demo for this? It's involved kicking guys off balconies into tables, it looked far better then what they ended up serving.
I completely forgot about this game, so much memories when I first got my PS2. You can seriously tell this was Square just but the look of the characters 😂
First PS2 game I played it came out well before FFX. Volt's jacket tho was always so cool a cactaur with a circle crossing it out and says No Escape was a nice nod.
People gotta understand this was one of the best looking games when it came out. It sold copies on the visuals alone. Gameplay wasn't great but this was just a showcase for the PS2 processing power.

My friend and I would play together and take turns going back and forth as "our character" on each level. I chose Volt and he used Sion. Super fun stuff! The game isn't great, as you said, but it's absolutely worth playing.
This game's plot sounds like a Family Guy cutaway about JRPG plots and it just kept going.
This is easily one of your best videos man
The editing and script are just too good
The Bouncer is one of my guilty pleasure games.
Love the old school projared reviews where he begrudgingly completes all endings of these games! Keep up the good work!
Another instant classic Projared video!
Lol 50 seks.
I gotta thank Jared for putting me onto "Love is the Gift" I've been bumping that song for a whole year at this point
The bouncer, AKA "If Sora never went to Disneyland"
A cold open of Jared laughing hysterically is just what we needed in our lives.
I loved this game as a kid. I really miss the days when I enjoyed almost everything I played.....
I loved it back when it came out. It is one of the best beat em ups ever made.
No. It's not, bro.
ProJared literally called me out on the "jiggle" comment, so I like and subscribed. Well played sir.
I unironically still love this game. It's so janky but has tons of heart.
First PS2 game I played it came out well before FFX. Volt's jacket tho was always so cool a cactaur with a circle crossing it out and says No Escape was a nice nod.
This is easily one of my favorite projared videos lol. Bravo good sir, bravo.
That game was one of the first ps2 games I played. I loved it. There hasn’t been anything original except a few since then.
4 player versus using the multitap is the best thing about this game, once you unlock all the characters for it.
People gotta understand this was one of the best looking games when it came out. It sold copies on the visuals alone. Gameplay wasn't great but this was just a showcase for the PS2 processing power.
People that poopoo on this game’s graphics don’t remember what other first year PS2 games looked like.
@@Viceroy_Sundercles_III exactly, this was mind blowing for it's time!
Grew up with this. Thanks for the nostalgia
Watching the Let's Play on the other channel, I knew that The Bouncer was too good a gem to pass on making a review of it. Sure enough, here it is!
Never heard of this game. But over 1 hour of cutscenes. Nomura was super indulgence in this game.
Jared using the old intro as background music is like seeing an old friend on the highway and only have enough time to wave at them
