hey projared, i wanted to say you are one of my favorite youtubers, if not the best, you are such a great guy, and i'd love to meet you, i havent seen all of this video, as i want you to see this, I really appreciate all the content you make, and i want others to see it as well, but either way, im sure i'll agree with your picks, so well done in this video as all others!
I was looking forward to it just because Jared likes the series so much, but oh god the beta was rough for me, a lot of jank in the controls and at a very slow pace for my tastes. In my opinion a game that looks better than it plays, so ill pass on that and will grab Dragon Ball FigtherZ because that Beta was fucking awesome.
Yeah, I know, right? Best I've felt in a while. Never been happier to be wrong about someone, and never been happier to eat my words and have Jared be back. Sorry I doubted you, Jared. I never should've. I hope you can forgive me, and let me come back as a true fan. Thanks for being so awesome Jared. You're one of the best! And you've got one of the best fan bases ever!

Kingdom Battle was the game that should have been dead on arrival. Instead it blew all expectations and gave us one of many fantastic games we got on the switch. I usually hate strategy games like XCOM and even I was loving every minute of this game. Even the rabbids were actually funny! Ubisoft knocked this one out of the park.
Well, in the great scheme of thing they did, alongside Horizon, Persona 5 and Nier. PC gaming exclusives dont get a lot of attention for most of the time.

Norilla Please tell ProJared that I’m going to knock him out if he doesn’t edit this video and put Tales Of Berseria on the list! Apparently, people can’t do the one thing I’m asking them to do. Also The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild is a bit overrated so yeah. Don’t get me wrong, Breath Of The Wild is a great game but it’s just that people are saying that it’s the best game of all time when I think it kind of pales in comparison to some other Zelda games. That’s also coming from a big Zelda fan too! It’s just that while that Breath Of The Wild’s overworld is admittedly fantastic, the story is simplistic, bland, and forgettable. I'm so glad Persona 5 landed a spot on this list. It's easily one of the best RPGs I've ever played, let alone this last year. I'm really sad that it hasn't gotten more attention and praise than it has, because it's more than deserving of it.

if you are playing any demanding game that came out after 2016 on a toaster, then I don't know what to tell you. The game is pretty well optimized if you ask me. It ran at a good 20 fps on my dad's shitty work computer
Yakuza was pretty great! Played xenoblade 2 and its a good game too but maybe played a lot of open world games by now and, the game is not as good as xeno 1.
i havent played nier automata yet but looking forward when i have enough to buy it but yeah as soon as the music came up on this video it gave me goosebumps and i instantly went searching for the song :p
I *just* finished Horizon Zero Dawn, and while its format is the general game of the generation: open world, dialog tree driven conversation, psuedo-stealth options, ect. But what it does within the format is what makes it so brilliant. Also it actually features something practically unheard of in modern gaming: COLOR!!
Just like most top 10 lists of games made by popular RUclipsrs, the comments are pretty hilarious. "WHY ISN'T THIS GAME ON THE LIST MEEEEEHHHHH??!?!?!?" Because it didn't make his list...that's it. Move on.
It bothers me a bit that every youtuber who has a list like this always has to say that its their list and so huge possibility that others faves wont be in it yet in the comments there will still be idiots complaining the game they want aint in it.
Eh, I've enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles 2 but it was far from my favorite game of the year. I never really had the urge to keep playing it hours on end like I did with P5 and DOS2.
Asmodeus Divinity os 2 was so good but I need Divinity 3 and to kill the Divine cause he seems like a ass in Divinity os 2 and I want the story to continue and see what happpens next cause Divinity os 2 made the Divine seem like a real bad guy and there so much you can with that and dragon knights are back and the new lore that now in place omg so much they can do
I’m seeing people in the comments who are upset that he put DDLC above, say, Odyssey. But comparing those two games is like comparing apples and oranges: they’re two completely different styles of games, and how much you like each one really depends on what style of game you like to play.
Pretty much. I'm one of those weird people that actual doesn't like 3D platformers much and is drawn to games heavy on narrative like Danganronpa or Ace Attorney, so I prefer ddlc to Oddesey no doubt
For me its Hat in Time, Persona and Doki Doki. I know some of the other games are technically better, but HiT and Doki definitely evoked the most emotion of the ones I played.
Personally, I feel it was a bit overrated. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic game that I completely adore, but it's not Odyssey level good to me. Also, the overrating is easily explained: we just came off of a game that did the "90s" Platformer wrong and that didn't understand why no one made games like that anymore. Referring to Yooka-Laylee, of course. Yooka-Laylee just made a platformer that felt like it was made in the 90s by amateur game designers. This caused all of the problems that come with platformers from the 90s, camera controls, frustrating level design, and glitches galore (generally non-game-breaking, but still). However, A Hat in Time nailed the concept, by understanding that some parts of those do not work today and therefore should be changed. They used modern camera controls. They extensively made sure all parts of the game were fun and not frustrating. They made use of modern conveniences to make sure that there were few bugs.
You want to know what I absolutely love about Jared? He is so relatable, pretty much everything I like, he likes as well and it makes him very likeable and endearing. He's the kind of guy you feel you could sit down and chat away about Magic or DnD or video games and he would because he's such a nice guy.
My top 10 of 2017: 10. Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy 9. Tales of Berseria 8. Super Mario Odyssey 7. Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony 6. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 5. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 4. Cuphead 3. A Hat In Time 2. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia 1. Persona 5 Honorable mentions: Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, Metroid: Samus Returns, NieR Automata, Pokèmon Ultra Sun/Moon, and South Park: The Fractured But Whole If anyone else wants to share their lists, feel free to do so.
I feel like that would be hard to do without the game being "finished", as a sort of retrospective, and considering / FFXI / hasn't even reached that point yet after well over a decade... well, that'll probably take a while.
Year was fantastic for Rpgs I agree. Was booked with great titles. Excited for Monster Hunter Worlds around the corner too. Persona 5 my personal number 1 was a big surprise never played a Persona and blew me away. FF14 has also consumed my free time haha Great list :D
i like projared's top ten videos because they are different than other top tens not saying others opinions on their top ten is bad but its just that projared also highlights some games that some people would miss
I'd like to suggest something. Stories Untold: A text adventure/visual adventure horror game that sets itself as an old 80s horror anthology show. One of the few games to genuinely scare me in a long time. Probably one of the most inventive games I have played in ages. That last episode alone...
OzzieCrackers No in p3 you can’t save during the day well most of the time you can’t control your party which leads to the mc’s death in battle for example your party is at low health yukari has diarahan and mediarahan guess which one she chooses yes *DIARAHAN* you can’t change personas in the velvet room not to mention you can’t fucking choose what move you want your persona to inherit battles are slow compared to p5 p3 social links compared to p5 confidants pales in comparisons and many more problems yes it’s your opinion but p3 has much more flaws in my opinion.
+Wouᴉʞɐ MONIKA ɒʞinom hot take: only thing the new bubsy game did wrong was the price. On a gameplay level it's perfectly fine $30 for only three worlds is absurd.
How about Xenoblade Chronicles 2? Admittedly it came out at the tail end of the last month of the year, but it was still a 2017 game. And it definitely is a very good Switch title for RPG fans.
Blackest Night Batman not everyone can get it at launch, hell I still haven't got it BC I'm broke Point is, even in a month, he will have played other games too, meaning even less time on it And it's Christmas time, people will be going out to meet friends and party and shit, so even less time to get to play a Goliath of a game
Honestly I understand him not being able playing it. Heck, he might not even have liked it if he did. I don't care, it's his opinion. I don't understand why you all are arguing about why or why not he had the time to play it. Does it really matter?
I've seen all of these games and said: "I want that". But I only have Doki Doki and Zelda. It's like Jared is holding them out in front of me and teasing me with them.
I'm happy to see Persona 5 on the list. I still haven't finished it either but it is absolutely amazing. And it's really long too. I still have a little ways to go and I've logged almost 80 hours, and this is to finish the story. But the gameplay is great, the art style looks fantastic, and the bonds you create with the characters are amazing and it makes me love these characters more than I already do. If you haven't already, pick up Persona 5. You won't regret it. Psst, there's also New Game Plus.
I've only played the Nier demo so I can't speak for it beyond, "The demo is fun, so the game should be pretty good." Persona 5 though is my personal GOTY. If you like turn based RPGs, you'll probably enjoy it.
ProJared has the most unique game taste of anyone I've seen. Although this is nothing my list looks like, I appreciate you picking less known amazing games, that are more calm than the main triple a games. Videogamedunkey fits my style more, but it's an opinion in the end. Good lost brotha.
The second the music for number 1 started playing I knew... I didn't even know you played Dinivity! But so awesome to see, because that game was also my top for 2017!
abdoulaye haidara The characters in it are kinda bland and boring. Persona 3 had a much better cast and story. But every other aspect of Persona 5 is amazing!
P3 is probably my least favorite game bc of the ending, but i still love it bc it's the game that got me into the series. p5 is just soooo good though replaying right now lol
Eh I prefered persona 5's cast to persona 3's mostly. Main character wise while I think comparing them would do them both injustice because they each have quite different roles and personality though I personally like the swave gentalmen thief "persona" given off by joker. Morgana is a complete mess and honestly his story line and character in general was my biggest fault on the game (GO TO SLEEP. Let me bully Ryuji and then he gets in-trouble). Ann was forgettable after Kagoshima's palace and Haru didn't really have a strong presence due to her late introduction. All the other characters though I found were great and I personally found their interactions were more enjoyable than P3. (Not saying I dislike P3, it being my second favorite persona game, I just prefer P5). Either war P4 the animation's protagonist was the best.
muzikgurl362 Ending of P3 is really meaningful and tragic. No useless happy ends with everyone laughing and looking at sunset. P5 lacks such strong moments, that's why it's ending is at YAY POWER OF FRIENDSHIP and stuff. In P3 hero SPOILERS sacrificed himself for the greater good, nobody forced him to do this, it's his very own heroic decision, so all of his friends could live happily ever after. But hey, he can be brought back. Elisabeth is still looking for a way to do this, because you know, she is the only Igor's attendant who got attached to her guest.
I'd just like to say thank you Jared. you probably won't see this but this list was what got me to play Persona 5 and boy oh boy was it great. I'm about to start my new game plus run and I felt you deserved some recognition for introducing me to my favorite game of 2017. Tah very much mate.
I'm so glad Doki Doki Literature Club is on there. I didn't play it until the very end of December so it missed my personal best of lists, but goddam did that game blindside me big time. All I have to say is JUST MONIKA.
So... a visual novel is your favorite game of the year? And in 2017, a year with games like mario odyssey, zelda BOTW, Persona 5, Xenoblade Chronicles 2... yeah you’re objectively wrong, I’m sorry.
It's so strange, how DDLC gets in a top 10, and all the haters start crawling out of the woodwork. What, you think your special for not liking a top 10 list?
"not-visual novel" oh really? Then what is it? and what does it not being Japanese have to do with anything? "crappy decision" it's called an opinion, people have those. There's a reason people love the game, but I guess you are the end all be all judge of all games.
"Why DDLC in a top ten" Those are people who just don't like any visual novel or they just haven't played the game. If you're one of the people who saw others play and didn't play it blind yourself, then you are missing part of the experience that makes the game so good. Now need I remind those people that last year, we got Asagao Academy in 3rd place, and it is a much weaker game than DDLC. All of this is of course my opinion, you don't have to agree, but I know for sure you'll still complain.
Keep in mind, people, these are the games NOT bogged down by microtransactions. They may have microtransactions, particularly A Realm Reborn as MMOs do, but I'm glad these games exist. And keep in mind, there's probably gonna be some games on the worst list that are ruined by greed.
Using "cappy" to foreshadow what's about to come two positions later (although I'd have put Odyssey far closer to BOTW) was pure genius, there's no way that wasn't intentional.
I really love watching your Top 10 lists because I feel they are often the most unbiased and unique. You had a lot of my favorite games on here, but in completely different places. Like Mario Odyssey, which is much lower on this list than any other. Plus some games I haven't seen on other lists, like Divinity 2 and Doki Doki Literature club. And no Destiny 2 or PUBG. Every time I see those games on a GOTY list I cringe.
Considering Jared's love for rpgs I honestly expected Persona 5 would be #1 or #2 but #3 is good too. Can we get the review you teased about in the Final Fantasy 3 video now that D&D December is over?
It's not fair to call the start of the game a tutorial. It just slowly introduces new mechanics, let's you play with them and then introduces some new ones. Even at the very end of the game you get some new mechanics added, it's a great way to marry accessibility with complex gameplay.
DunklerJägerZach clearly you haven’t played the game, because the tutorials are never one after another. They’re somewhat spaced out, and spaced out strategically
Hmmmm personally Im a fan of tutorials that ask if you wanna check it out, just informs you its been added to the tutorial log menu, or pops in and goes away with just a quick image of how to do what (like in NoMoreHeroes). Ive seen XBC2's tutorials and they certainly were boring and the super anime esthetic made me miss the old XBC realistic look. Though having boring tutorials is just the standard so it shouldn't be a problem for experienced RPG players, its just the way it normally is.
Alejoman I was surprised but happy that ProJared included FFXIV Stormblood on his top ten games list. Not many other youtubers like him have played it so I'm glad to see he has a such a favorable opinion on it.
Honestly I feel it's cheating when it's just an expansion. I get he still really likes it, but if people are gonna make fun of awards shows giving straight game awards to DLC, suddenly making an exception now makes no sense.
Why does it matter if it's an MMO expansion, or "just DLC"? If it's good enough to contend with the top games of the year, then it deserves to be on the list.
It's an expansion rather than a full game so I'm not surprised (nor do I think it's unfair) that it is not in more top-10s. As far as MMO expansions go, this is easily on par with Burning Crusade or Wrath of the Lich King, except with better story. It's going to be hard for Battle for Azeroth to beat Stormblood. (Talking about quality not sales.)
Sorry about the "let's play" kind of footage for parts of the video. I didn't have the raw capture anymore and used what I could!
ProJared Final Fantasy 4 review plz? Again?
ProJared
2017 SUCKED FOR GAMES!
Now get to work on that Worst Games of 2017 list!
hey projared, i wanted to say you are one of my favorite youtubers, if not the best, you are such a great guy, and i'd love to meet you, i havent seen all of this video, as i want you to see this, I really appreciate all the content you make, and i want others to see it as well, but either way, im sure i'll agree with your picks, so well done in this video as all others!
Blazing Larvesta is he doing one this year?
ProJared you re a fan of rpg, play xenoblade 2 on switch dood, of course P5 best rpg.
Lets bury the negativity! Go on projared! We root for you!
It kind of sucks to see all of these comments from 3 months ago piled up in the front .
Yeah let's do it!!!
+@@awsomemodels It *really* sucks
Rocking the comback like a Pro. Were with you Jared.
"well, at least you're starting strong"
hell yea, *MONSTER HUNTER WORLD, BABY!!!*
13 MORE DAYS BOI!
Ah I was wondering what game he was referring to when he said that
I was looking forward to it just because Jared likes the series so much, but oh god the beta was rough for me, a lot of jank in the controls and at a very slow pace for my tastes. In my opinion a game that looks better than it plays, so ill pass on that and will grab Dragon Ball FigtherZ because that Beta was fucking awesome.
Just by your comments i can see that you are A FUC-... uhhh i mean... a person with really... diferent tastes.
Also Dissidia NT. It has Ramza in it.
being able to watch this channel again without feeling bad feels really good.
Yeah, I know, right? Best I've felt in a while. Never been happier to be wrong about someone, and never been happier to eat my words and have Jared be back. Sorry I doubted you, Jared. Ima nut on that fish
Why did you feel bad? It’s just video games
I mean what he still did was terrible and I can't support him as a person still. But separate art from artists and all that
He made some mistakes but hes realized those and learned, plus, half of the things everyone said about him were lies
"I have not been oki doki since Doki Doki" - ProJared
that game sriously broke my heart, won me over again, damaged my mental health sevrely and I still love it for what it is
I still have "the file" on my desktop :P Sitting there and waiting... for me...
So true
You have no idea how true.....
Oooooh boi, I bet he isn't feeling "Oki doki" right about now. Cheating on your wife will do that to you
I REALLY like how he shows off all these games in such a way that he can show their appealing points without spoiling
i feel like cuphead should be more compared to metal slug, since those games are also the same gameplay and their strongest point are the impressive looking boss fights
bocodamondo love metal slug's art
I mean, I think Gunstar IS the apt comparison when Treasure is known for their boss fights.
No, henceforth every difficult game shall be compared to Dark Souls, even if it isn't the same genre whatsoever. Difficulty = Dark Souls, come on now, you should know better.
It's like Contra
More like Gunstar Heroes
Persona 5, mah baby.

I dunno, I'd say Sonic Forces is a strong contender for that list.
Totema1
Bubsy as well
Mario + Rabbids - AKA XCOM: Mario edition. Wish I had the console to play it, since I really enjoy the newer XCOM games!
oh, that's easy, YW psychic specters, SMO, mario and rabbids, and cuphead
Kingdom Battle was the game that should have been dead on arrival. Instead it blew all expectations and gave us one of many fantastic games we got on the switch. I usually hate strategy games like XCOM and even I was loving every minute of this game. Even the rabbids were actually funny!
Ubisoft knocked this one out of the park.
A Sonic game on a “Best of the Year” list??
Maybe the Sonic fanbase should be making the games instead of Sonic Team...
Flame of Udun cough cough Deviant Art cough cough
No doubt dude. Sonic Team has no idea how to make a good game.
okay, that's a fair point... BUT! if you've sonic dreams collection.. then you know they should also not be haha!
SnOc If only all fans had the talent of chirstin
It hurts because it's true.
2:14 congratulations you win the the only person not to rank Odyssey either no.1 no.2 award
Bubsy better be on this list...
*WHAT COULD PAWSSIBLY GO WRONG??*
Bobby Sharpe No shit, don’t know what the hell Sony was thinking
i think your addicted to youtube commenting lol
That Dark Souls ripoff game on Playstation. And it also has a sequel.
Sony's on drugs. For real.
Timothy McKane you better not be talking shit about Bloodborne...
Flame of Udun Nope, I was talking about "Spear of Destiny" and its sequel (or rather spiritual successor) "Sword Of Fortress The Onomuzim."
YES! Divinity OS2 is the best. Definitely my favorite of the year! I was afraid mario and zelda would just completely overshadow Divinity .
Unfortunately for me and tons of people, it runs like ass on all settings.
I'm not saying this happens to everyone. Just a lot of ppl.
Well, in the great scheme of thing they did, alongside Horizon, Persona 5 and Nier. PC gaming exclusives dont get a lot of attention for most of the time.

That fucking game man.... it has affected me more than what I'm willing to admit.
Should've faked us out by making #1 the demo for Monster Hunter World :P
Or Monster Hunter Heroes to be funny.
Please tell me that Tales Of Berseria is on this list! That’s the best game ever made!
Kind of a random comment to comment that on...
Also, not on the list.
Norilla Please tell ProJared that I’m going to knock him out if he doesn’t edit this video and put Tales Of Berseria on the list! G3ntle Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Cruz Medina Not even close.
G3ntle you're right Xenoblade far superior
Cruz Medina Nice bait.
Cruz Medina No it's not, keep dreaming kiddo. Persona 5 is clearly the superior RPG, and everyone knows that.
the Persona 5 soundtrack made my pants hit the floor
-Error- dat intro so good, you’ll never see us cominnnn!
You have to go back and play Hollow knight, easily the best metroidvania title we have seen in ages
vibratoryhawk5 Path of Pain flashbacks...
IMO, it surpassed Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Hollow Knight is crazy good.
you couldnt be more correct.
Man looking back 2017 really was a good year for video games lol, so many good games came out that year.
Divinity Original Sin 2 is definitely worthy of being the best game this year. This new resurgence of CRPGs make me so happy.
Now all that's left is the resurgence of RTS...
It's the rpg of the decade for sure. Name a flaw in the game.
nabidiboy jones it runs horribly for a lot of ppl. That's a rather major flaw.

Xenoblade 2, Danganronpa V3, and Yakuza 0 were also great games
Especially Yakuza 0. Such an amazing game!
Yakuza was pretty great! Played xenoblade 2 and its a good game too but maybe played a lot of open world games by now and, the game is not as good as xeno 1.
Weeb trash
Yakuza was better than persona 5, it was so well written (even if it had goofy dumb moments, but most stories do)
Back off it's his list
Not only did he put Nier Automata on the list, he put what is in my opinion the best song from the game as well.
- Lijosu - It is an exceptional song.
I can never seem to get over its introduction. So awesome.
- Lijosu - ost name pls
"A Beautiful Song" - Nier Automata OST
i havent played nier automata yet but looking forward when i have enough to buy it but yeah as soon as the music came up on this video it gave me goosebumps and i instantly went searching for the song :p
Thumb up if you would totally watch a Projared P5 playthrough
I definitely wouldn't mind it. Can't say the same for Atlus though...
MasterGameplay or Nintendo, right? For their games obviously
100 hours of some dude playing a game? Why don't you just play it yourself?
I WOULD!!!!!
buy the game and play it at that point tbh lol
I really loved yakuza 0 and kiwami
Lui_Vee Same here. I’ve just beaten both of them. Have you gotten around to Yakuza 6, or Yakuza Kiwami 2?
7:50 me: *screams and jumps out of chair to start dancing*
KNACK 2 BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
10/10 knacksterpiece
Super Mario 2 babyyy!! Game of da year every time
I *just* finished Horizon Zero Dawn, and while its format is the general game of the generation: open world, dialog tree driven conversation, psuedo-stealth options, ect. But what it does within the format is what makes it so brilliant. Also it actually features something practically unheard of in modern gaming: COLOR!!
I don t get it i found it somewhat dull
NieR
2B or not 2B... There is no question, play the game, it´s awesome.
Just like most top 10 lists of games made by popular RUclipsrs, the comments are pretty hilarious.
"WHY ISN'T THIS GAME ON THE LIST MEEEEEHHHHH??!?!?!?"
Because it didn't make his list...that's it. Move on.
Bonfire Keeper James THANK YOU! Jeez people always do this. It's an opinion thing. People get so butthurt.
Bonfire Keeper James 99.99% of the comment section
I think disagreement on DDLC being on this list is completely justified
It bothers me a bit that every youtuber who has a list like this always has to say that its their list and so huge possibility that others faves wont be in it yet in the comments there will still be idiots complaining the game they want aint in it.
Bonfire Keeper James It's just INSECURITY to what they like and they wanted to have confirmation to it
2017 definitely was one of the best years for gaming. It's just a shame I didn't get to play all the great games that released that year.
Fan of RPGs. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was my favorite game of the year. I beat it about a month ago and I’m still playing it.
ThatOneMovieGuy I love the replayability of it
I love Xenoblade Chronicles 2, it's my favorite Switch game.
Eh, I've enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles 2 but it was far from my favorite game of the year. I never really had the urge to keep playing it hours on end like I did with P5 and DOS2.
ThatOneMovieGuy xb2>p5
Super mario odyssey and Sonic mania are my personal favourites from 2017
Nobody told me Doki Doki was free! Bye!!
Have... *_Fun_* :)
CartmanBrah legend says he’s still playing it to this day
He's probably still just sitting with Monica.
Have a nice weekend.
You pay with sanity, not money
Divinity OS 2 baby! I knew Jared would love the best CRPG released in decades.
Asmodeus Divinity os 2 was so good but I need Divinity 3 and to kill the Divine cause he seems like a ass in Divinity os 2 and I want the story to continue and see what happpens next cause Divinity os 2 made the Divine seem like a real bad guy and there so much you can with that and dragon knights are back and the new lore that now in place omg so much they can do
I got shivers when the music started. What a fantastic soundtrack.
Yes! So happy to see it on the list, since many youtubers didn't even play it, it seems...
Asmodeus thats all i need. As long as jared has OS2 on his list. I am totally fine
kill star huh
I sympathized with him
A man trying to do whats best
No evil intent
Though he fucked up here and there
How's he a real bad guy?
C'mon Jared, Knack II came out this year, how could you miss Knack II on your list, I'm disappointed
KNACK 2 THE FUTURE
Exceed knack 2 is 2017 game of the year baby !!
Not Bubsy The Wollies Strike Back/10
Knack 2 babyyyyyy! 10/5
More like Shat II
I’m seeing people in the comments who are upset that he put DDLC above, say, Odyssey. But comparing those two games is like comparing apples and oranges: they’re two completely different styles of games, and how much you like each one really depends on what style of game you like to play.
One is not even a game.
Osir isrex well Mario Odyssey was garbage, so yeah.
Yuri Doki-Doki literature Club was so boring
More like apples to bloodthirsty, suicidal protein bars that aren’t always protein bars
Pretty much. I'm one of those weird people that actual doesn't like 3D platformers much and is drawn to games heavy on narrative like Danganronpa or Ace Attorney, so I prefer ddlc to Oddesey no doubt
But, I think we all know what the Game of the Year is:
SUPAH MARIO BROTHERS 2
GAME OF THE YEAR EVERY SINGLE YEAR BABY
It's a mastapeece!
A Hat in Time? That was one of my favorite games i played this year
I was waiting for someone to bring it up! Defo my personal GOTY
Thank you for mentioning A Hat In Time, it was one of the best game I played this year
For me its Hat in Time, Persona and Doki Doki. I know some of the other games are technically better, but HiT and Doki definitely evoked the most emotion of the ones I played.
A hat in time is my GOTY for sure
I really love P5. Amazing Soundtrack!
Seeing as you missed my favorite 2017 game here's one for the new year: Hollow Knight
Never got to playing that one!!
ProJared It is AMAZING. Probably the best metroidvania or even platformer i've ever played. And i'm not even done yet
Holy crap you sold me on that Devinity 2 game
Best western RPG in decades.
HellRay i thought you said destiny 2
same lol, was very confused
You want to know what I absolutely love about Jared? He is so relatable, pretty much everything I like, he likes as well and it makes him very likeable and endearing. He's the kind of guy you feel you could sit down and chat away about Magic or DnD or video games and he would because he's such a nice guy.
No Super Mario Bros. 2????
yeah wtf
Dunkey's channel is that way.
Fucking mastapiece
I only watch Dunkey for accurate top games of the year. Super Mario Bros 2 is a masterpiece and it's an absolute crime it's ignored
Knack 2 babyyyyyy!!
My top 10 of 2017:
10. Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy
9. Tales of Berseria
8. Super Mario Odyssey
7. Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
6. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
5. Xenoblade Chronicles 2
4. Cuphead
3. A Hat In Time
2. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
1. Persona 5
Honorable mentions: Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, Metroid: Samus Returns, NieR Automata, Pokèmon Ultra Sun/Moon, and South Park: The Fractured But Whole
If anyone else wants to share their lists, feel free to do so.
Nice to see you making videos again. You're my most reliable source for rpg reviews from another JRPG fan. Keep up the great work
I'm still hopeful you'll make a full FF XIV video at... some point. Great job Jared, here's to a great 2018! :D
Sincerly: Vivian~
Trim Prism that video better has a ton of lalas in it.
I feel like that would be hard to do without the game being "finished", as a sort of retrospective, and considering / FFXI / hasn't even reached that point yet after well over a decade... well, that'll probably take a while.
you could cover just each expansion as its own seperate thing really
FFXIV fo life!
Trim Prism 2018 has started off great
Year was fantastic for Rpgs I agree. Was booked with great titles. Excited for Monster Hunter Worlds around the corner too. Persona 5 my personal number 1 was a big surprise never played a Persona and blew me away. FF14 has also consumed my free time haha Great list :D
Don’t forget Xenoblade Chronicles 2
And Fire Emblem Echoes
i like projared's top ten videos because they are different than other top tens not saying others opinions on their top ten is bad but its just that projared also highlights some games that some people would miss
I'd like to suggest something.
Stories Untold: A text adventure/visual adventure horror game that sets itself as an old 80s horror anthology show. One of the few games to genuinely scare me in a long time. Probably one of the most inventive games I have played in ages. That last episode alone...
JK_Darkside Huge Like to this.
This game was unlike anything I had played
Persona 5 is my fav game of 2017, i still love p3 more.
P3 is my favorite too. P5 pales in comparison
For his 10 year anniversary he should do a top 10 of his top ten lists
Will there be a worst list?
Will there be a worst list?
Always comes second, always has the joke that the year is one of the worst years for games in modern history.
Le Master DON'T YOU DARE ADD SONIC FORCES!
WHAT GAME COULD PAWSIBLY HAVE GONE WRONG THIS YEAR?
+Wouᴉʞɐ MONIKA ɒʞinom hot take: only thing the new bubsy game did wrong was the price. On a gameplay level it's perfectly fine
$30 for only three worlds is absurd.
How about Xenoblade Chronicles 2? Admittedly it came out at the tail end of the last month of the year, but it was still a 2017 game. And it definitely is a very good Switch title for RPG fans.
Sky Render Xc2 is my game of the year
"I like your atchichude!"
"Let's show them a thing or three!"
He might have not played it yet.
*T H I N K Y O U C A N T A K E M E ! ?*
aka "you'll pay for your insolence 2.0"
I bet he hasn’t played or finished it yet. But I’m sure it would be on here if he did
Aww man Super Mario Brothers 2 ain't number 1
bad list. super Mario bros 2 is a masterpiece. one could even say its better than knack.
Still waitin' for Knack HD
MAAASTAPECE
Or Knack 2 (actually a Really good game, highly recommend it)
Dunkey approved
I completely agree with this list (except for the exclusion of Xenoblade 2).
Rowlet Gamer it was released a bit late to be able to know properly
He likely just hasn’t played it at all or enough yet.
EnEbEE OgLoOSpLS It came out on the 15th. His list came out mid-January. That’s a whole god damn month.
Blackest Night Batman not everyone can get it at launch, hell I still haven't got it BC I'm broke
Point is, even in a month, he will have played other games too, meaning even less time on it
And it's Christmas time, people will be going out to meet friends and party and shit, so even less time to get to play a Goliath of a game
Honestly I understand him not being able playing it. Heck, he might not even have liked it if he did. I don't care, it's his opinion. I don't understand why you all are arguing about why or why not he had the time to play it. Does it really matter?
have you played Hat in Time yet? its cool
mett4cool100 the SMSS vibes were hard as a rock. Worth the money though.
It runs off of "hey guys remember that old Mario game" so much that it gets way too stale. It's just a yooka laylee twin.
it would be a twin if yooka laylee was good. Which is not the case when compared to 'a hat in time'.
Not really. It's everything Yooka Laylee hoped to be, but so much better.
It borrows a lot of ideas from Mario Sunshine and 64, but it has a very unique charm and really good humor to it.
I love how your dialog in your two 2017 review videos are directly contradictory to each other :D
I've seen all of these games and said: "I want that". But I only have Doki Doki and Zelda. It's like Jared is holding them out in front of me and teasing me with them.
Well you can get Sonic and Cuphead on PC for $20 or less (Or download them for free) and SMO isnt completely outta your reach either.
Psst, there's also New Game Plus.
penguinsrock520 i have been thinking of buying persona 5 and after reading this i think i will!
Spectre of Torment
Yeah, that was my favorite
I'm a simple man, I see Persona, like and comment
saim
Agreed
Same.
Should have been number 1 ( *grumble* ) ( *grumble* )
Same
I'm still not sold on Nier but you have convinced me to play Persona. It looks incredible.
sweekun It's made by Platinum, what more convincing do you need?!
Only way to know is playing it tbh
I've only played the Nier demo so I can't speak for it beyond, "The demo is fun, so the game should be pretty good."
Persona 5 though is my personal GOTY. If you like turn based RPGs, you'll probably enjoy it.
NieR: Automata certainly isn't for everyone. If you like depressing story-focused game, you'll enjoy it though
Nier is great
ProJared has the most unique game taste of anyone I've seen. Although this is nothing my list looks like, I appreciate you picking less known amazing games, that are more calm than the main triple a games. Videogamedunkey fits my style more, but it's an opinion in the end. Good lost brotha.
Careful there Joker, you're not trying to steal Monika's heart.
But Holly was trying to steal Jared's
Hollow Knight is a must play from 2017, and my personal GOTY.
The second the music for number 1 started playing I knew... I didn't even know you played Dinivity! But so awesome to see, because that game was also my top for 2017!
Persona 5 is probably my favorite game of all time. I'm so satisfied with it. The only problem is that the game ends when you beat it.
abdoulaye haidara The characters in it are kinda bland and boring. Persona 3 had a much better cast and story.
But every other aspect of Persona 5 is amazing!
Sem Nikitin In my opinion I'd say P3 is my second favorite, but P5 just made me feel so.... complete.
Hollow Knight was a 10/10 game, great story incredible 2d hand-drawn animation epic soundtrack and awesome fast-paced combat and platforming
You know I got that for a friend and he was super into it. I really should get it myself.
yes I cannot recommend it enough a 20 $ game that is also like 50 hours long if you dont blitz past everything
you mean ori and the blind forest 2?
you mean the literal "style over substance: the game 2"? no thx
what are you talking about the has game so much content
Hey Jared! Waiting for this year list! I hope there is one, your content is awesome keep up!!!
I see you fixed the mess up at the end
4:44 High quality Cuphead gameplay
Um, that's not what s/he said.
Sees Persona5 joker in the thumbnail next to sonic. Clicks on video in a split second
relatable. persona 5 was my goty
Ive been waiting for this video all year so glad its finally here
YOU'LL NEVER SEE IT COMING
I dunno, the thumbnail kinda gave it away.
It's so strange, how DDLC gets in a top 10, and all the haters start crawling out of the woodwork. What, you think your special for not liking a top 10 list?
Handtomouth I like how so many people a saying that it doesn’t deserve to be on this list even though this is Jared’s list and not theirs.
And you think you're special for trying to defend his crappy decision on a not-visual novel, not-Japanese game.
2017 was a fantastic year for games. Yakuza 0, Nier Automata, Sonic Mania, Resodent Evil 7. So many great titles
My you tube glitched out Jared’s voice got really deep and slow but the video speed was normal
L.A.D Vlogs
Nah, you just logged into RUclips After Dark.
Mine did that too
Mine was Jared’s voice was low but the video was fast
Keep in mind, people, these are the games NOT bogged down by microtransactions. They may have microtransactions, particularly A Realm Reborn as MMOs do, but I'm glad these games exist. And keep in mind, there's probably gonna be some games on the worst list that are ruined by greed.
Using "cappy" to foreshadow what's about to come two positions later (although I'd have put Odyssey far closer to BOTW) was pure genius, there's no way that wasn't intentional.
Hollow Knight deserves to be here.
i would literally die for persona 5
That’s very sad.
The ProBoner mid stroke will forever be etched into my memory
So your one of the "unlucky ones"
This is why I don't have any social media accounts
Oof
Let’s take a moment to clear our minds
Stormblood
I would def put prey somewhere on the list, but as always, I love that you put stormblood so far up there, Fantastic expansion.
Considering Jared's love for rpgs I honestly expected Persona 5 would be #1 or #2 but #3 is good too. Can we get the review you teased about in the Final Fantasy 3 video now that D&D December is over?
What about Tales Of Berseria? That’s my favorite game of all time!
Really glad to see Doki Doki on here, easily worth putting on the list imo too. Great list, great video :3
i like these pro jared vids. there worth looking forward to at the end of each yr or start
Yay persona 5 my all time favorite game of 2017
Divinity, original sin two ga- hmfp.... Divinity, Original sin two gave me everything i could hope for and so much more.
Was that in the original video?
It’s a good year when some of your personal favorite games don’t make the top 10, but you can look at the list and say, “Yeah, those are good too”
have you played xenoblade chronicles 2 yet? its cool
It's not fair to call the start of the game a tutorial. It just slowly introduces new mechanics, let's you play with them and then introduces some new ones. Even at the very end of the game you get some new mechanics added, it's a great way to marry accessibility with complex gameplay.
exactly
the tutorial's aren't even that long...
I'm happy to see FFXIV in the list. That game needs more recognition.
Trevor Williams It's effectively still just DLC in my eyes. Whether the content is worth it should be more important than volume.
Nice to see someone giving DOS2 the live I feel it deserves.
0:56
HAPPY→EAPPY→FAPPY→CAPPY
You cannot imagine my excitement when I heard “Doki Doki”. One of the only things anime is good for besides porn.
um action scenes
Your name and profile pic dude... not cool...
