    HF should definitely add more options for the legs. The only thing you can do is just move the position of the character. Being able to make a custom running pose or kick would be incredible for scene and world building. So I 100% agree with you that when picking a default pose it's quite literally all about the legs.

    2 things I would also point out for tail posing beginners:
    - a tip directly by the Great Hypersmurf: if you are using the tail to clipping an item in a specific position, it's pretty useful to move all sliders (from slot 1 to 14) to zero before starting. Since you don't need to maintain the smooth curvy look of the tail, you just need to bend it into the right position.
    - During the video you were struggling to find out where each tail slider was, by trying them out one by one. That's one situation where it's helpful to enable the red axis icon. You can use it or not, but it helps you to locate the zone you're about to edit.
    Watching the video I've also realized that the axis mode can help you to locate a specific tail if you're using a lot of them. I just suggest to enable it on one of the later slots, since slot #1 is basically the same for all the tails.

    Right out the gate, I love the idea of chopping the top of the body off when going through the poses so you can see the legs and feet without the torso, head and arms colouring your perception of the pose - it does reveal how similar many of the leg/foot positions are, though, with only subtle differences in distance apart, bending at the knees etc.

    It's funny how you describe the 'Tread Lightly' pose, because the two times I've used it in earnest was with someone distracted and looking at something else (a map in one case, and a book in the other). It really puts off a 'not thinking about where they're going' or 'about to trip over their own feet' kind of vibe that makes the rest of the pose more charming and quizzical. :3

    One question I always ask when posing is: What is gravity trying to do to your character? And how and why are they resisting? Momentum? Balance? We create a snapshot, a moment captured in; an on going series of events. A second came before this slice of time and a moment will come after. If you can capture that, then your on your way to capturing the dynamic.

      @@Derfholm It is plausible, that I very well maybe; something of a 'creature of habit'. Nice of you to notice. Excellent video by the way. Lot of editing in there. It takes a lot of time making, just so to those who watch it, may feel like it flows like water. Editers, (generally) end up disliking the things they make as they have laboured over every transition, extra element and cut. Whilst syncing up the sound track. Thank you Derf for making a tutorial "that I'm sure you were done with at the time" but will help many people gain an understanding of HForge.

    Finally, I've been waiting for this for 83 years. Thanks.
    The quality is very good, it looks like a commercial online course. Really congrats on the quality.
    The part of observing the legs and using them as a base is a good idea, I will pay more attention to that.
    How do I keep my minis from looking like contortionists? Several times I try to do poses that would be theoretically anatomically correct, but they always have their arms looking like they came from a bad horror movie. Maybe I should just stop trying to overdo it, but it frustrates me sometimes

    • @Derfholm

    Regarding the Knight's action pose, I think you'd be better served using the angled hand grip on the sword hand. That way it brings the hilt further forward, meaning less clipping from the offhand, plus it it doesn't look like the wrist is bending in an unnatural way.

    • @Derfholm
      @Derfholm  Год назад +2

      In a removed clip I actually addressed why I didn't (but I needed to trim the video down for length) - basically, I believe that the angled hand grips end up looking too loose and therefore sloppy/casual. It may just be a subjective thing but for me personally it removes the look of a proper grip

    • @OminousVoice
      @OminousVoice Год назад +3

      @@Derfholm I see what you mean, but I think that may depend on the pose. As you say, it's subjective. Personally I use it more often in dynamic poses because it gives me that little bit more flexiblity without compromising the pose. In any case I've been enjoying your content, I've learned a few things that have upped my HeroForge game a bit. Your painting tips have been especially useful.

      @@Derfholm As someone who does active swordfighting (HEMA, Historical European Martial Arts), you'd like to have a relatively loose grip on your hilt. 95% of the time I am holding the hilt with the "angled hand grip", as you called it. When posing a hanging guard or ochs/ox guard, like in your Knight's action posing, I would highly recommend doing the angled grip.
