    • Suzuki Eiger 400 4x4 M...
    Power: good low and mid range. Not much up high.
    Handling: decent because of selectable 4x4
    Tire size: don’t even think about 27’s or Outlaws
    Comfort: stiff with not much flex. Straight axle is pretty rough but not too bad.
    Shifting: smooth, good gearing but tops out at about 50.
    Size: will fit in the bed of a smaller truck such as a Tacoma (may need bed open)
    Drivetrain: 4x4 selector is extremely smooth and can be operated seamlessly while moving or stopped.

      2004. Good machine. I recommend the foot shift over the belt driven automatic. That is my preference. Don’t pay a ton of money for it. I paid 2200 for mine and it was in great shape. Higher miles at 3500 but great shape.

    My dad has an 05 with 12,000+ miles on it & I have an 07 with 9,500 miles on mine. We both bought ours brand new, I have been able to ride 165 miles without switching to reserve. These quads are amazing and have never left us stranded. Change the fluids regularly and keep the filter clean and they keep going!

      That's awesome! I just bought a 2003 Eiger w/ plow. Only has 1190 miles on the ODO and was used on private property only. I believe it to be accurate because it is so clean and still has the original tires with good tread. The previous owner had to replace the flywheel (Common problem) right before I bought it. He sold it because he just wanted something newer. Anyways, I was just curious if you ever had to change the flywheels with that high mileage?

    Me and my wife have been riding the eiger for about 6 years now and let me tell you it's one of the most bulletproof machines out there. Suzuki makes a great machine very reliable and not a whole lot to go wrong with it I love the old-school standard not to many companies are still doing that anymore. I wouldn't mind having a newer one of the 400 though with the fuel injection.

    Bought mine in November 2001, it was the 2002 model, first year I believe? I rode the heck outta thiß thing when i first got it, I was 17 at the time so you know it was rode hard and put away wet... Here we are some 18 years later, it's still running strong and hauling large loads of firewood on the farm. Probably one of my best investments to date. I remember when it was new, this full size wheeler would easily pop wheelies! Through the years, people and places have come and gone, but the Eiger remains! If you come across one that's reasonable looking, BUY IT! You won't be disappointed!

    I have an 04 foot shift . As video said ,top end power is weak but bottom end is impressive for its weight and engine size. The trails i ride are 2nd ,3rd gear mostly. It has climbed stuff I shouldnt have tried. The guys I ride with all have big bores and its more about skill than cc's for riding quick. DO a raptor petcock mod and never look back. Mine has almost 6,000 miles and burns no oil and purrs like a kitten. Excellent all around machines. I have had a bunch of quads and this is one of the best all around machines i have owned.

    These are great machines. Mine is a 2003 and it has never failed me. I use it as the only way to get up to my house in winter, carrying all kinds of groceries, pet foods, and other things. When I had donkeys it would even carry 4 bales of hay strapped to the back from my hay storage down below. I do not use it for trail riding as my road is a 4WD steep goat trail and that's the only trail riding I care to experience.

    I've had an Eiger for years that sees about 80% utility and 20% trail riding. Mine has the CVT and thankfully, I have had no major issues relating to the transmission. Part of the Eigers fuel efficiency comes from the use of a constant velocity carb that is set up very lean from the factory. I've done a few mods to mine to richen it up and improve runability, which resulted in a small but noticeable drop in economy. Overall, pretty good bikes and the few notorious problems they suffer from have already been addressed by the aftermarket.

      I picked up an 06 eiger with 600 miles on it a few months ago. What common problems should I keep an eye out for and is there any preventative maintenance you recommend?

    • @WyckedSludge
      @WyckedSludge 3 года назад +2

      @@maj32499 As I mentioned, the carburetor runs very lean from the factory. There are a few mods that guys do to richen the mixture up a bit. One involves putting a washer under the needle (to raise it up and richen the mixture throughout the power band) and the other involves modifying or replacing the spring that pushes the carburetor slide down, making the spring softer so the carb goes rich easier on sudden acceleration.
      Other issues to watch out for are the vacuum operated fuel tank selector valve. They fail and most guys just replace them with an old fashioned mechanical valve. This was already done on my Eiger when I got it.
      The magnets on the flywheel have a nasty habit of coming unglued, leading to no ignition. There are aftermarket flywheels available which have the magnets embedded to prevent this.

    I have this in a 07 model that I bought brand new. Ill admit its not my dream atv but it has served the purpose at a more affordable price for me. I used to plow my drive when I was in the country and I still do trail riding in the summer. The quality of this engine is outstanding. I have always kept fresh high octane gas in the tank and it runs great.
    Unfortunately this thing will top out at 45mph. Thats not very good compared to a Polaris of the same size engine. I jetted the carb with a bigger jet size and was able to achieve some nice throttle response. It accelerates very nice now through the low power band.
    I also pulled the CVT clutch apart and modified the clutch variatior. I made some cuts on each side of every roller weight ramp and bent each ramp in 2mm. I then Tig welded each cut back together. This mod alone allowed me to gain 10mph top end. I now hit 55mph because the variator pushes the belt up to a bigger diameter on the clutch sheave. You can find details to this mod by searching clutch variator mod or something like that.

    • @anthonyg6221
      @anthonyg6221 9 месяцев назад

      Before your clutch mod, was the 45mph top speed on the speedo or GPS? That seems too slow. My 03, w/ auto, will do 55MPH on the speedo no problem and I'm pretty sure its all stock (I bought it used).

      I have videos of my Tacoma (2006, double cab, short bed). Unfortunately, I do not have the four wheeler anymore (bought a motorcycle). However, as for my 2006, it fit fine with room between the wheel arches. I had to leave the tailgate down though. The nice part is the bumpers on the older Eigers hang low so you don’t have to worry about them destroying your rear window. When you go look at one, measure the height from the ground to the bumper and match it with your bed. I usually bring a trailer when I buy stuff just in case but I have never actually owned a trailer, I just borrow them. You can look up the dimensions of the Eiger on Google, measure your bed, and compare. That’s what I usually do.

    • @gen1canamoutlander705
      @gen1canamoutlander705 4 года назад +1

      The switch might be a battery isolater switch that the owner used to turn off the battery when the atv wasn’t being used, you would use one of these when you have a drain in the electrical system which is when there is something drawing power from the battery when it is not supposed to and all the switch does is stop power to anything when you have it turned off

    • @BurningRubberDC
      @BurningRubberDC  3 года назад +2

      That is really high considering you can get something that’s 2015+, fuel injected, more powerful, and lower miles for 4-5k. The market is so inflated right now and that goes for everything, cars, trucks, motorcycles, and four wheelers

      Almost 3k is a lot for something that old considering you can get something 2010+ with fuel injection and a lot more power for less than 5k. So eh, up to you but that’s high for me.

    How does the high and low work with foot shift can u make a video on that pls

    • @BurningRubberDC
      @BurningRubberDC  4 года назад +1

      Hey Peyton, it works similar to a CVT transmission. While you're in gear, you can operate the lever forward (low gear) or backward (high gear). Low gear for slow speed crawling or high gear for everything else.

      @@BurningRubberDC does it change power and how u put it in reverse

    • @BurningRubberDC
      @BurningRubberDC  4 года назад +1

      You have the same power, it only lowers the gear ratio. It’s like a transfer case in a truck. There’s high and low gear. You have the same power only different gearing. Reverse is selected with the same lever that operates high and low. With the foot shifter, shift to neutral then pull the gear lever to reverse and you’re there.

    • @BurningRubberDC
      @BurningRubberDC  4 года назад +1

      It’s much cheaper to clean the one on the bike instead of replacing it. Honestly, I’ve taken carbs apart just to clean the jets. No new gaskets or seals. Clean the jets, mock it up back together, see if the problem is fixed. If it is and It’s not leaking, your good to go. If it’s leaking, go back in and replace gaskets. That’s the cheap way to do it. You have to take the carb off either way if you bought a new one so might as well try cleaning it first.
