Thank you so much everyone for the kind words and for watching it :] about me not talking there are multiple reasons. The main one would be that I had 2 great commentators and I didn't feel like I had much to add to it, then I was also really stressed before the run and that I wanted to focus on the run as much as possible, I guess a minor reason would be that I didn't sleep much before doing this run -_-
I have to be honest, when I first seen an 8 hour block for FF7 I shook my head and thought it was silly, but I caught some of it before going to bed when you did it live and was so impressed I tracked down the VOD and watched the entire run from start to finish. Just wanted to say this was an amazing endeavour and I'm very happy you proved my skepticism wrong. You had a stellar run of the game and your couch and their commentary was incredibly engaging and I really enjoyed every second of it. Hopefully you enjoyed the experience as well as GDQ in general as much as I enjoyed what you and your couch put on display.
We were obviously expecting a lot of those reactions when someone is seeing a 8 hour run at GDQ, and seeing that a lot of peoples were actually really surprised (in a good way) by the run and commentaries is the best that could have happened, and we're really happy of how it went, thank you so much. I really enjoyed and can't thank GDQ enough to bring back a long RPG in a GDQ, so I can't thank them enough also.
Thank you to everyone that tuned in to the run! It was an honor to be able to represent the FF7 community & Ben put on a phenomenal run (:This was my first GDQ and I'll remember this for the rest of my life
Also as a side note, J2 & I wanted to elude to upcoming event in order to avoid spoilers and let the story unfold as it was happening. We wanted to be informative about the strategies as well as guide people easily through the story and give people things to think about with foreshadowing
Probably one of the best runs ever seen in GDQ. -Good runner (plus a bit of luck) -Well spoken and knowledgeable couch -Couch also took the time to detail the story of the game instead of going with the "has a story, I guess" cliché -We can actually hear the music from the game Top comfy.
seen it like 5 times now. super to have this on while doing stuff in your flat, just listening to the awesome music of ff7 and the chilled people on the couch
This is how a Spedrun at a marathon allways should be! A Runner that can concentrate on the run and two people who give technical inside to the run AND the story. 10/10
I think whether runner wants to commentate or not is up to them. TomatoAnus's Fallout run would not be nearly as good without his commentary specifically. (Which might've been after your comment)
This speedrun is SEVEN years old now. And it's still my number 1! Great commentary and the runner, Ajneb174 is amazing! Every year I watch this speedrun multiple times. Such a great run!
okay so all the props in the world to the dude who "missed" the squat at 1:02:19. You saw your opportunity and you went for it, regardless of whether anyone saw it or not All my possible respect, and should we ever meet, I'll buy you a beer or something. Shine on, you legend.
@@smtandearthboundsuck8400 If you look at the guy on the left side of the couch. He does a few squats, then he stands still and scratch his head. That's what Cloud does when you mess up the squat input.
Just to add to all the other comments, this run has become the most loyal companion. After my son was born, I developed the most awful insomnia because of his sleep schedule and my inability to adjust. My doctor recommended that I listened to audiobooks to try and drift off, but being a gaming guy I tended towards the long form games as background noise I needed. But once I came across this run it's been my go to ever since. I listen to it almost nightly and it's such a comforting companion and without it, I genuinely don't know if I'd be able to sleep that well. Such great commentary. Really considered insight, great voices, nothing too dramatic in terms of loudness, some lovely pauses to allow the music to shine. I honestly can't say enough about it. Really I should say thank you.
Here are the things that really sell this speedrun to me: - The couch is knowledgeable and stays on message. Focus remains on the game and its runner, which is crucial to keep us viewers in the moment. - The couch is interacting with itself, juggling some fun stuff back-and-forth. I felt comfortable because they were assured and confident. If you guys were terribly nervous, then well done hiding it. - Very important part: the couch is reflecting their enjoyment of the game during commentary, and informing the audience why. I find this absolutely crucial to maintain a positive vibe throughout the run, and it influences the viewer to appreciate more aspects than just the mechanical ones. Few things can sully the mood like runners or couch commentators telling the audience how sick they are of cutscenes, story bits, gameplay bits, or other aspects of the game-- unless that is the entire point of the run. We really don't need to hear how much a specific part "sucks." - The homework. You can tell these guys did their homework on this specific speedrun. Some things are methodical, plotted, planned, yet still there's the element of spontaneity. I might fill in more later, but these are things that've cropped up so far. Kudos, guys!
"If you derail the step count at any point during the run, you can't get it back. So it is imperative you keep it for the entire 8 hours." @15:39 Holy sweet mother of god.
This is crazy lol. I thought that Chocobo Breeding RNG being not actually random was crazy enough, but knowing that not only can steps be manipulated, but runners keep track of that just really nails in how insane some of these guys are at what they do.
It's a long run but the runner + great commentary make it worth. Love the way you guys actually talked about the story and went into some plot points (especially the ones a lot of people didn't understand). Great explanation on tricks and techniques of the run itself and keeping it entertaining throughout so many hours.
lol ya, I never knew how OP the Soul fist was when I played this back in the day, million years later (a few years ago) I see a speed run of this and decided to play again with the tricks I learned, was great
65Reidlos When I was a kid I never used Tifa once she becomes optional. For me too it was only after the internet did I figure out some of the craziest OP stuff.
I never used Tifa when she was optional either. Used Cloud/Aeris/Red for Disc 1, Cloud/Barret/Red for part of Disc 2, remembered to go get Vincent and switched to Cloud/Vincent/Red.
I love Final Fantasy but thought this run would be boring to watch since it is 8 hours long. I was wrong. The commentary was really well done and kept me engaged the entire time. Good job guys and I hope to see some more Final Fantasy games ran at GDQ!
It's them explaining the story for me, I hate it when speedrunners immediately dismiss all story. Especially in an 8 hour run, with so much downtime, talking about the story makes this so smooth. Time FLEW by, thank you for upload to RUclips, to the runners and lastly AGDQ!
The most impressive couch I’ve ever seen; the commentary, insight, banter, and the fact that they stayed on that damn couch the whole play through. Very impressed, Dave, Ben, and J.
i think this is the 6th or 7th time i've watched this run in the background. It's just the perfect combo of lore, mechanics, commentary, and route explanation I've ever seen in a run.
for an 8 hr run this was very entertaining. couch did a good job of explaining the story while they blasted through it, I expected to just fall asleep during this run and ended up staying up until it was done.
This run has changed a lot since this ADGQ, but still come back and rewatch it because it’s only of the best couches ever. It’s the ultimate comfort watch
My second time watching this run, only this time: It's from the midst of a global pandemic, but I am finding it comforting and it is making things feel a little less hopeless. Thank you. This game meant absolutely everything to me.
Watching these old videos and seeing everyone also say 'Make-Oh' instead of 'Mach-Oh' like they do in the remake is so validating of my entire childhood. Glad it wasn't just me saying it that way all those years.
This was the best gdq run ever for 2 reasons. 1.) The fantastic runner and commentators in combination providing the viewer with both intensive and insightful gameplay, and an expansion on all the ins and outs of the tricks in the run and story for those who have never played. 2.) B E E F E R O N I
Without question, the coolest GDQ run I have seen. Such an amazing couch, and an awesome player. Took me like a week to watch all the way through in little slices, but I'm so glad I did.
Been watching A LOT of GDQ stuff and this was amazing/best I’ve seen. I might be biased since this game was my childhood, but the runner was top notch and the commentary was absolutely stellar the entire way. Those guys were incredibly well spoken, light hearted, and did the story justice. This is the stuff of legends. Hope to see this crew together for another run.
1:04:07 Don Corneo's mansion doormat (好色男) means lecher/womanizer/pervert. 1:07:11 The kanji on the paper lantern (古留根尾) when broken up, individually reads ko-ru-ne-o which is Don Corneo's official japansese name (sans the Don) in the game: コルネオ
I watch this when I go to bed every night. The commentary is so far beyond any other GDQ run that I can listen to it for the 100th time and enjoy it just the same. I've only barely beaten the Midgard section in my own run so I just play the video from the end of that section through the Kalm cutscenes and it puts me to sleep before it spoils the rest of the game, without fail. Great way to end the day, just a comfy video.
Haha I was just telling someone that I also put it on when I go to bed every night. I have insomnia and the music and calm commentary from the couch is just so relaxing. It actually helps with my insomnia.
Such a great GDQ run! I’ve watched this video so many times already since discovering it. From the informed and well-spoken couch to the skillful gameplay, it really makes this a joy to watch actively or to leave as background noise. I really appreciate the positivity and love for the game on display throughout the run, and the way the story’s addressed and summarized in a fond way that doesn’t diminish its absurdity and acknowledges how fun it is for it’s zaniness. Great work, all of you! Hope to see FFVII at a GDQ again soon!
There were two parts of this game that brought real tears to my eyes. Cosmo Canyon and Aerith's death, each for different reasons. And, as it turns out, it they still do.
This is straight up one of the best runs I've ever had the immense pleasure of watching. Thank you everyone involved in making this run happen and well done!
This is the best speedrun and commentary I've ever seen. One of my favorite games of all time, great runner, really outstanding commentary. I'm over halfway through and am sad only four hours are left. Wow.
2:58:31 The guy flies away as a slapstick comedy bit from the helicopter landing. You can see the other two soldiers slide back while kneeling as if they are also struggling against the force of the wind from the helicopter's downward thrust.
this is by far the most entertaining "long" speedrun I've had the pleasure of watching. only catching the VOD, but usually I do them in chunks or pass out partway through and you guys kept me hooked for 8 hours straight...good thing I had no plans tonight :P
unreal run. brought tears to my eyes. i remember beating this game as a kid with my older brother everyday after school. he has since passed away. rewatching this game made me relive alot of memories with him. unreal. at a loss of words. thank you
I still make time to watch this run at least once a year. Not only is FFVII one of my favourites but the commentary crew just make this such a warming and gentle experience. Thanks guys ❤
just finished ff7 for the first time like ten minutes ago! it’s been such a ride... took me three months to finish but gosh i’m still reeling from it. amazing run btw! it’s a bit old now but i honestly think this is one of the best GDQ runs out there. looking forward to playing ff8 now :)
Just watched this for the second time. It is such an amazing run. I love the knowledge the runner and couch have, but I love how seamlessly they incorporate it into the whole run even more. ajneb's execution was flawless. This video has inspired me to try to run the game; I only hope I can find the time soon. Great work gentlemen.
I discovered speedrunning and GDQ for the first time earlier this year. I haven't watched a session live but have been hooked on this video. FFVII has been my favourite game since I was a kid and this speedrun is an amazing video to watch. Great gaming and an awesome commentary from the couch.
These commentators are fantastic. I'm normally someone who would just skip out on this stuff but multiple people recommended it and I can see why. Had to watch it over the course of a few days but really great work from everyone involved and excellent run!
still the best speedrun i've seen. great gameplay (shout outs to those dice) but the commentary is so on point and beyond enthralling that you can't help watch this and see 8 hours fly by.
This is how a speed run should be made! An amazing couch, super interesting to listen, loved the lore, the explanation and the immense respect for the game. Hands down the best run I've ever seen, great job guys.
My favorite run you've ever done, you picked the right people to run the game, even with FF VII being my favorite game I didn't think I'd tune in for the entire 8 hours but the people on the couch just made it so dang entertaining the whole way through, had me staying up til the morning to finish it. I'd love more long RPG's speedran like this if the couch can stay the same quality it was with this game.
I did a double take when I saw the length of this video. I was never able to get past Shinra Tower very early on the first disk so it was a pleasure to see how it is all done and what I was missing out on. Big props to the runner, but also big props to the couch providing informative commentary which felt like I had hardly missed out on anything-the perfect tl:dp.
I’m guessing this run ran well past midnight. I love the idea of camping out in one of those big conference rooms, bringing enough snacks and drinks to make it through the long haul.
couch guys are amazing, for such a long run, it is REALLY entertaining. incredible job, one of the best runs ever in a GDQ. great team work, great runner, great game. thank you sincerly
Dang, these dudes do a great job explaining the story and keeping it interesting. I thought this would be a slog to watch but I've been captivated the whole time. Not to mention the skill of the runner, of course.
This is the third time I've watched this speedrun all the way through - easily my favorite speedrun on this channel for the following reasons: 1. ajneb174 has an awesome couch that talks through the mechanics, story beats, and speedrun tricks without being comedy try-hards. They're obviously passionate about the game and don't try to talk over each other. If there's anything that makes me want to close out of a speedrun vid, it's a mumbling and/or badjoke (i.e. spike) couch. Big kudos to them and ajneb for making 8 hours fly by. 2. That OST was not left on the roadside, A/V did a great job. 3. Even the donation readers were having a good time.
This is my favorite run of all time. Amazing work by the runner on my favorite game, and by far my favorite couch commentary. Everything just "clicked" and I'm sad that it may never be topped in quality.
Man, I appreciate the commentators for this playthrough. The easter eggs, the lore dump, and just history of Final Fantasy. Outstanding! Definitely one of my favorite GDQs ever!
There is a skip I discovered that I don't see anyone use. I've only done it once, but you can skip the conversation with aerith after sneaking out of her house by walking along the bottom of the screen and going behind her and proceeding to the area before the playground.
Is it crazy if i tell you you lead up to the discovery of an actual skip (by me) xD I saw your comment , gave it a try and it happened , now working with many speedrunners to make it a thing! it saves 1 minute!
The play from the speedrunner is really good especially in this high pressure situation and the commentary from both of the couch guys is really, really good. I'm almost 2 hours in and am really enjoying this. Really looking forward to watching this the whole way through as I get time to watch it. Currently watching in and listening in thr background whilst wiping on bl4 ludwig in bloodborne and it is making the wipes so much less frustrating :) Really awesome job guys all three of you.
Finally watched the whole thing in 3 sittings... This is my favorite game of all time and i learned so much with you guys on the couch. Props to all and can't wait to see what you guys run next. Beefaroni is the chosen one
Amazing run. Commentators were informative, exciting to listen to and explained the story extremely well. The skips were explained perfectly well too. Love it!!

This run has made work so much better this week. Your couch was solid and your skips were on point!

thanks for the kind words & thank you so much for watching it, the run would have not been the same without those commentators :]

That's not miss timing, that supposed to happen in the scene 😥 the feels. I've never seen it not sinked up before until this run.

Best run I've watched so far. Perfect gameplay and commentary for one of the best games ever.
This run is the perfect example of what GDQ is all about. Amazing job to the runner and couch.
One of the best run of AGDQ 👌
when this Virus Pandemic is over, I hope we can see a FF7R run with the same dudes on the couch. really love the commentary.
ff7 remake sucks

LOL the guy for "messing up" a squat.
There were two parts of this game that brought real tears to my eyes. Cosmo Canyon and Aerith's death, each for different reasons. And, as it turns out, it they still do.
4:50:22 Guy crying in the back.
xDDD
CommanderZaktan the stream was highlighted there lol
Znapaznarf I tweeted spike, he denied it was him
I was there. Can confirm it wasn't Spike.
RIP COOLRANCH
This is straight up one of the best runs I've ever had the immense pleasure of watching. Thank you everyone involved in making this run happen and well done!
Hands down best 8 hours of time spent on youtube
The true lesson of FFVII is that you must learn to harness your own Sadness status effect to be truly powerful.
The greatest speedrun in history. All of you where so good!
This is the best speedrun and commentary I've ever seen. One of my favorite games of all time, great runner, really outstanding commentary.
I'm over halfway through and am sad only four hours are left. Wow.
I have now watched this twice. Once per year. I hope next summer this will be ran again, otherwise it may require a third viewing.
A good speedrun can only be complete with a good speedrunner and good commentary together. Well done both.
2:58:31 The guy flies away as a slapstick comedy bit from the helicopter landing. You can see the other two soldiers slide back while kneeling as if they are also struggling against the force of the wind from the helicopter's downward thrust.
this is by far the most entertaining "long" speedrun I've had the pleasure of watching. only catching the VOD, but usually I do them in chunks or pass out partway through and you guys kept me hooked for 8 hours straight...good thing I had no plans tonight :P
love this run and still have 2 hours left. the commentary was amazing, and this was one of the best runs at SGDQ
unreal run. brought tears to my eyes. i remember beating this game as a kid with my older brother everyday after school. he has since passed away. rewatching this game made me relive alot of memories with him. unreal. at a loss of words. thank you
I still make time to watch this run at least once a year.
This is the best speed run ever. Commentary is amazing.
I discovered speedrunning and GDQ for the first time earlier this year. I haven't watched a session live but have been hooked on this video. FFVII has been my favourite game since I was a kid and this speedrun is an amazing video to watch. Great gaming and an awesome commentary from the couch.
one of the best couches ive seen in a GDQ
This run was amazing and the commentary was fantastic. This is what I want to see from these events!
This is easily the best commentary I've ever seen at a GDQ event
"Let's just leave the materia down there, anyways, she'll be down there soon enough..."
That was cold... Great, but cold...
I watched the whole thing and I have no regrets.
Rare info: Sephiroth looted the gloves from Aerith, when he killed her
couch guys are amazing, for such a long run, it is REALLY entertaining. incredible job, one of the best runs ever in a GDQ. great team work, great runner, great game. thank you sincerly
Dang, these dudes do a great job explaining the story and keeping it interesting. I thought this would be a slog to watch but I've been captivated the whole time. Not to mention the skill of the runner, of course.
This is the third time I've watched this speedrun all the way through - easily my favorite speedrun on this channel for the following reasons:
1. ajneb174 has an awesome couch that talks through the mechanics, story beats, and speedrun tricks without being comedy try-hards.
Watching this after watching someone play the remake. and man, they have a lot of content to build for the next parts.
Yea I can't wait to see how they do it
@@cr-nd8qh *if they do it
this is Square Enix we're talking about.
This is my favorite run of all time. Amazing work by the runner on my favorite game, and by far my favorite couch commentary. Everything just "clicked" and I'm sad that it may never be topped in quality.
I rewatch this ever Christmas/Christmas Eve. 🎄💚
Man, I appreciate the commentators for this playthrough. The easter eggs, the lore dump, and just history of Final Fantasy. Outstanding! Definitely one of my favorite GDQs ever!
"Just let it fall in the water, she'll be down there soon anyway" DAMNNNNNNN
When Cloud leapt up in the air for the final strike of Omnislash, it legitimately gave me goose bumps. Great work guys!
MayRed awesome! I'm glad I could help 😁
MayRed let me know when you implement the skip in a video. I'd like to see it.
Jesse Gordon I'll let u know when someone actually does it during a real run :3
MayRed thanks! Excited to see my discovery do work! I am surprised that it saves a whole minute. I thought it would be like 10-15 seconds at most.
The play from the speedrunner is really good especially in this high pressure situation and the commentary from both of the couch guys is really, really good. I'm almost 2 hours in and am really enjoying this. Really looking forward to watching this the whole way through as I get time to watch it.
Currently watching in and listening in thr background whilst wiping on bl4 ludwig in bloodborne and it is making the wipes so much less frustrating :)
Really awesome job guys all three of you.
Watched the whole thing - great all the way through.
CRASH WILL LIVE!
WOAH
Satyr may he forever woah in our hearts
Leonardo Silva tem brasileiro em todo canto mesmo
Finally watched the whole thing in 3 sittings... This is my favorite game of all time and i learned so much with you guys on the couch. Props to all and can't wait to see what you guys run next. Beefaroni is the chosen one
I watch this once a year. Best sofa ever.
Amazing run. Commentators were informative, exciting to listen to and explained the story extremely well. The skips were explained perfectly well too. Love it!!
so many awesome strats, holy shit, this run is a must watch
